View 2 RepliesSee title. How can I prevent this from happening? If I want to lock my device, I have to press the power button. When I press it again, the whole system reboots. This didn't happen in 8.
View 1 Replies View RelatedToday, my windows 8 desktop acted up for no reason. When I tried to install a program/software, it prompted for an Admin. Password. However, in the dialog box, there was no text box for typing in the Administrator password and OK button was grey out.
Tried to open an elevated command prompt box using "Run as administrator", no luck. Selection was grey out too. I could not enable hidden administrator account via "net user administrator /active:yes" from elevator command prompt. I also could not install any software because the Administrator password dialog box contains no text box to enter Admin password and OK button grey out. I could only clicked the Cancel button.
I've been running the official Enterprise build of 8 for a few days now, but it seems some things are glitching on me that didn't in the RP and a glitch is occurring that has been occurring since the CP.
For starters, in metro IE 10, there's sometimes a text lag where I type but it isn't instantly shown. It happens on a random odd occasion. That didn't happen with the RP but did with the CP.
Another odd one is with Recycle Bin. If there are several items in it and I delete them, the progress bar appears and shows the operation is complete (in the address bar). But there are still like five things left in it, but refreshing the view shows everything is gone, seems likes a render issue that has been prevalent for me since I think the DP.
Also, there's an awkward amount of time from the boot screen to the lock/logon screen that normally and socially accepted. There's just a black screen for about 15-20 seconds then the lock screen appears.
I've found a bug in Task Manger in the Startup tab. I know for a fact that there has to be AT LEAST five startup items, but in the Startup tab, it doesn't report any startup items.
Other than that, everything is working fine. But it seems boot time isn't as fast as usual, maybe due to the startup items issue, but it's all solid.
I have a hp envy running Windows 8.1. I recently ran a system restore, and ever since it has run the hp logo, then gone to a black screen and stayed there. Things I've tried:
Boot in safe mode: No change. Startup Repair: Said it couldn't fix it, but I can't get to the log file to find out why (is there a way to access windows explorer from then startup repair menu? Maybe using the command prompt?) System repair:Said there wasn't enough hard drive space. Another system restore: Didn't work, blamed my antivirus. (McAfee) Full system reset: Said there was a drive partition missing.
What I could try to resolve any of these? I have access to everything in the startup repair menu(f11), as well as the BIOS, but I'm not really sure where to go from there.
Like the title says... is there any way to remove or disable it completely? I've been searching for a while now and can't seem to find any. Please see the screenshot I provided to make it more clear.

But, because Windows 8 must have a safe mode set up, I have to do other things first. Now that I've got to using the command prompt to add the safe mode, the P key is constantly being pressed, making it nearly impossible to type anything accurately. It would take countless hours to type things right or cause more problems if I go on with it.
I cannot log into any accounts.
I changed my new HP laptop to windows 8 yesterday. love the OS except when i try to type. the cursor moves all over the place, stalls and sometimes even disappear. this didnt happen with windows 7 at all. i know there is a touchpad issue. i have disabled the touchpad (i use a wireless use) and it came back on. i then removed the driver for the touchpad and it still works. i have resorted to downloading a program that "locks" the touchpad when the keyboard is used and none of these have worked. four times while writing this i have had keyboard issues.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble with moving my cursor. When ever I hold down any key, I cannot move my cursor around on the desktop, but I can move it if I hold down the CTRL key. I have a Synaptics PS/2 Port Touchpad and a Standard PS/2 Keyboard, & I have a Windows 8.1 HP Laptop. I also had a similar problem like this before, but instead of not being able to move my cursor, I was unable to click. However, I am able to click while typing, but cannot move the cursor. I am not sure when the problem occurred or how it happened.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI find when I press the Windows key, or open the Start Screen and start typing, nothing happens. Usually the sidebar opens with search results, but recently it has stopped working completely. Also, the search charm on the sidebar, and the search button on the Windows 8.1 (update) Start Screen do not work either--when I press them, nothing happens.
At first I thought it was a Windows Search service that had stopped working, so I restarted them, but the problem persisted.
I want to remove dell touchpad permanently from my inspiron 17r 5721 OS: windows8
The darn thing jumps all over while typing and it has made me not even want to use my computer it is so obnoxious. It deletes my typed info and opens windows ...
I tried to remove and uninstall but it just keeps putting it back on and refuses to stay closed. I have tried to reduce sensitivity and do everything recommended to resolve this by adjusting through the driver / device manager/ etc.... right now I have it fully uninstalled and it is still running! what the heck can i do?
NOTHING WORKS!!!
For long time now I have been using the below program for my web designing and it has worked perfectly up to and including Windows 7. I just got a Windows 8 laptop and now the program crashes or hangs whenever I start to type I get maybe 1 or 2 characters out and then it hangs.
I saw a similar post in the Win 7 forum but there was no final answer or solution and it was posted quite some time ago. The only response to the user was to check the Event Viewer. So I tried that and the below is what I got back but unsure what to do with this info.
I am using a now no longer supported version of this program I even tried mailing them and they refuse to do any sort of update. So the software people won't do anything to try and resolve this issue so that is why I am hoping I can fix the issue. And the newer version stinks so refuse to use the newer version.
This is the program

I've recently made a Windows 8 and a Windows 8.1 installation disc from the ISO images on MSDN. Each image includes Core/Core VL and Pro/Pro VL, 32 and 64 bit editions of each. I have the installation keys for all of these installations, but I don't want to have to type an installation key every time I go to use this disc. I've tried adding an installation key using WinReducer8 (which I do not recommend), but it only adds one key, which means I cannot choose which edition I want to install.
When I made my AIO Windows 7 ISO, I had no issues, as Windows 7 doesn't force you to add an installation or product key; you select your desired edition and you're good to go. Attached Image 1 shows what I'm referring to.
Now, however, Windows 8 has to choose your edition by the product key you enter (well played, Microsoft), and I want to find a way around this.

Ok I have a Alienware M17XR2 laptop. I just installed windows 8.1 from a formatted start. Got most of the drivers functioning. I have an unknown device which I will address in another thread. Anyway my keyboard lags sometimes while I am typing fast. Never did that on my Windows 7. I'm running 64 bit as well.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've got a bit of an issue though. A few days ago, I went into Control Panel > Clock, Language, and Region > Language and added French as an additional language. I changed the input method for it to US-QWERTY and it offered to download an additional language pack -- which I did.
It decided to set it to my system language upon reboot. As soon as I got back in (which took some time, I'm only just starting French classes! ), I set English back to the system language, uninstalled the French language pack, and removed French as an additional language entirely.
However, something appears to be stuck. Windows still has that language configured even though it does not show in the Control Panel, and when I use IE (Chrome has been freezing lately), my spell check is in French, NOT English -- which is the default language. Resetting IE completely (in the Tools, Advanced menu) did nothing.
Here's a pic (Warning! It's a bit larger than 640x480). You can see the language selection "tool/widget" by the clock, and you can see the dialog that shows English AND French are apparently configured for use, even though the Control Panel window shows only English.
Either way, the other day I accidentally removed the date and time from the bottom right hand corner of the Windows 8 taskbar. I did this when i was trying to set the time from the Windows defaulted US Pacific Time to US Eastern Standard Time. How to get it back on the taskbar. Why my Java location on my computer is saying that it is "corrupted". I think it is related to Windows 8 upgrade.

View 8 Replies View RelatedThis brand new HP Pavilion Laptop had a UEFI Boot entry in the BIOS.
I used the HP Support Assistant to update the HP functions and programs, and it downloaded a new UEFI diagnostic which it installed as a partition on the drive - It was already there to begin with, but the new version removed the entry "UEFI Boot" from the Bios Boot Selections and now it just says "OS Boot Manager"
Therefore, when I try to use "Advanced Start" options from PC Settings, I no longer get the options to go into Safe Mode or the other recovery options, the system just reboots and F8 does absolutely nothing.
Other than setting my BCD to Legacy Mode, I cant get this into Safe Mode.
I burned the recovery disks which were 6 DVDs, will that put the original OS back in? I do have the free 8.1 update available, maybe the new UEFI only works for 8,1? I'm just trying to figure out how to put the UEFI Boot option back in, the original UEFI tool cannot be downloaded from HP.
I made a bit of an error, I bought a new joystick to play MS flight Sim X and installed it etc .
I went to uninstall the old driver before installing the new one, and made the error. I really don't know why I did it but I went into view devices, right clicked on the icon for the Joystick and removed it
Is there any way to get it back, I have tried to reinstall the driver but it still does not show on the devices panel and i cannot use it ..

I have tried to download and install other version of Win 8 pro, but I receive an error message saying that Internet Explorer is already installed in my system. However, I have tried searching for it, and I can't find it anywhere.
Where is Internet Explorer installed in my Win 8 Pro edition, if I have deleted all of it from my OS?
Also, how to re-install Internet Explorer so that I can use it again.
I have tried to set it as a default browser, but this method does not work.
I was recently installing and checking out Window 8.1. Everything is going just fine and with stuff like Start8 and Modernmix i personally feel i can maintain my old and preferred workflow (so, for the rest i can enjoy any new features that are now available!).
Anyway, as i was installing some of my software (and migrating settings from Windows 7 for some of them)... i came to some game launcher i use for Arma 2 called PlaywithSIX.
I had to install it a few times and the update mechanism was a bit fishy imo. For example; i could not even select where i wanted to install the applications (no extra options nothing), it just went straight into my Program Files folder.
After my install debacle i decided to make sure the system tray icon would always be shown and configure it when i stumbled upon the following:
Appearantly the app made several system tray icon entries, for having been started from several locations.
Is there any way to clean these entries in regedit somewhere or something? I hate having double entries in there for no reason....
My notebook is setup with a local account instead being logged in with a Microsoft. Since Microsoft doesn't allow you to use OneDrive in Windows 8.1 with a local or network domain, I'm using the program syncDriver so I can continue using OneDrive on my notebook.
The issue I'm having is that when I add a link to OneDrive in my Windows Explorer Favorites, the link will get removed at some point without my interaction. My guess is that Windows is removing the link from favorites but I can't figure out when or why it's doing this.
how to stop Windows from doing this?
I use the Windows Account to login to my 2 Windows 8 laptops (Lap1 and Lap2).
Lap1 - Has 1 Windows Account (Lap1Acc1)
Lap2 - Has 1 Windows Account (Lap2Acc1)
In Lap2, the Windows Account Lap2Acc1 had few problem with "Trust this computer" as Windows never sent the code in the registered email. So I created a fresh new Windows Account (call this Lap2Acc2) with new email. I deleted the Lap2Acc1 from Lap2 using User Accounts and created a new user using Lap2Acc2.
Now the problem is. Before removing Lap2Acc1, I didn't leave the HomeGroup and so, for some unknown reasons, in both of my laptops, in the HomeGroup tabs I see these users
Lap1Acc1
Lap2Acc1 (this was removed from Lap2 as a user, but it still exists in the HomeGroup)
Lap2Acc2
I have installed windows 8 in my dell laptop, then I installed the drivers after the extraction. then I found that a folder of name dell is created ,inside that folder a new folder 'driver' is created when I found that all drivers extracted folder which were just been nstalled successfully. now my question is ..can I remove those folder cause they have been already installed?
