I have installed windows 8 in my dell laptop, then I installed the drivers after the extraction. then I found that a folder of name dell is created ,inside that folder a new folder 'driver' is created when I found that all drivers extracted folder which were just been nstalled successfully. now my question is ..can I remove those folder cause they have been already installed?
View 5 RepliesInstalled 32-bit Win 8.1 onto a Dell D610 (Pentium M 1.86GHz 2GB RAM) and it really works very well. Except for one nagging problem - the 4 left/right click buttons do not work! I have tried several drivers and all give full touch pad functionality (scroll and tap/click) and the keyboard stick works - but both sets of left and right buttons refuse to do anything. All worked with Win 7, so I assume it is a driver problem. I currently have a Logitech USB wireless mouse attached which works fine, but I would like to get the buttons on the laptop functioning.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 1545, the screen is broke so I use an external monitor which doesn't project BIOS or Boot up so I cannot see anything. I found a thread on here that adds the Intel Graphics Driver for Mobile 4 Series for Windows 8 which I supposed would work on 8.1.
The link I installed:
Mobile Intel Series 4 and Intel HD Graphics 1st Generation. I installed it and restarted the laptop for the GUI to start.
But as I restarted, the screen was blank. I tried cycling through projection modes as I usually do, but this time It didn't work.
I have no clue of how to remove the driver to as I cannot see anything on the external monitor as I've tried it on 2.
I've tried booting into Safe Mode but as I've said, I cannot see anything on the screen so I'm not sure where I am.

I've just set up a clean system installation (Win 8.1 PRo x64). As a part of it I obviously installed my printer driver. The printer is Lexmark E260d and I use Lexmark Universal Driver downloaded directly from Lexmark's webpage.
My surprise is that after installation I have two such printers available at my system:
- "Lexmark E260" - which is the name I gave during installation,
- "Lexmark International Lexmark E260d" - which is another device appearing as a printer.
Both drivers / devices (?) print correctly yet I can see some differences in their functionality descriptions, when choosing Properties / Hardware. Lexmark E260 device has there "Print queues" only while Lexmark International... device has three types "Printers", "Print queues" and "Universal Serial Bus controllers". Another thing is when I double click on devices icons in "Devices and Printers" window - Lexmark E260 brings well-known list of documents actually being printed and Lexmark International... brings printer configuration dialog allowing to see printing documents, customize printer setting and so on.
Why I have somehow two different printers appearing on my system? Should I remove one of them and which? How can I avoid duplicating devices when installing drivers?
I made a bit of an error, I bought a new joystick to play MS flight Sim X and installed it etc .
I went to uninstall the old driver before installing the new one, and made the error. I really don't know why I did it but I went into view devices, right clicked on the icon for the Joystick and removed it
Is there any way to get it back, I have tried to reinstall the driver but it still does not show on the devices panel and i cannot use it ..
I've had a hp pavilion notebook g6 for a year with windows 8 and recently it kept freezing after login so I refreshed my laptop but it ran out of charge 12% through and now whenever I run my laptop it asks for me to install an operating system and I didn't realise the importance of the sticker which has my windows license key and I only have the last 4 numbers left and I was wondering if there is any way for me to get my windows 8 back?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a toshiba canvio basics 1TB portable external hard drive usb powered. Model no. E05A100BBU2AK. I had purchased it some 3-4years back. It worked for some 4-5months or so. Then, whenever i plug it in the port, an error comes "FAILED DRIVER SOFTWARE INSTALLATION". The device doesn't come with a software installation CD or guide... It's plug and play only I think. The white LED light goes on flickering right when i plug it in till i remove it. A click sound along with metallic scratching sound comes from the device at a regular interval while plugged in & also I can feel the drive moving inside as soon as it is plugged.
I had tested it in all the ports of my system, also in many other systems of my friends but gives the same error on plugging in or the system does not identify it. It cannot be seen in My Computer. the hard drive is not getting recognised. In Device manager I cannot see any error in USB ports & everything is workng properly. USB ports works when other devices are plugged in.
I used four drives in my hard-disk. I needed to extend volume for my C drive. So using the Disk management utility I was trying to shrink the drive F (as it was very next to C, as in Disk management). But something happen accidental here. I found that two of my drives E & F went missing after the operation. Also my laptop suddenly restarted (after perform a checking task). I am not sure how this happened and looking for a way to recover the lost partitions as they are seen still exist, including the data.
I was only trying to shrink around 283 mb of volume from a drive with 138 gb, as an experiment basis, to see it work. On that process the drives were lost and those are not shown into my windows now. Using a software EaseUS Partition Master, I could still see the drives still exist as they contain the data as used spaces, and also show the unallocated space of 283 mb but I am not finding a way how could I recover my partition without affecting the data.
I had windows 7 running on my computer. When windows 8 came out I used a second harddrive as the windows 8 installation drive. Windows 8 automatically setup a dual boot system where every time I started the computer it took me a windows screen where I could select either windows 7 or windows 8. This has been going on since Windows 8 was released.
I decided it was getting old so I decided it was time to remove the old windows 7 harddrive. I tried doing it inside the windows 8 dual boot screen but could not find an option. So I decided to reformat the windows 7 harddrive. I did this in command prompt mode. After doing so when my computer restarted it said it could not find any harddrive to boot. Windows 8 is installed on the other harddrive, the one that was not reformatted. So how do I get it to start using that harddrive as the boot drive? I checked my bios and even physically disconnected the old HD that had windows 7 on it, but none of that seemed to work even though the Windows 8 HD is definitely in the boot order in the bios.
new build win 8.1 I am trying to configure an HP printer driver to digitally scan to a specific folder on a hard drive it says "the device needs to authenticate itself on the network before it can save to a network folder" then asks for my user name and password (not the wireless router name and password) direct Ethernet connection from main computer to router I have tried many variations without success how do I figure out my network computer and user name: in net speak ? e.g. ????????username ?? the Microsoft account adds a whole new level of complexity and woe is my user password my pin number or is it my MS account password or something else is my user name "Robert" as listed in windowsusers folder or is it some variation of in "netspeak" my new build screams but I am undergoing the usual trials of a new clean install (Win 8.1)
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have had about 5 crashes in the last month. Below are 2 of them from the whocrashed report. I tried googling this issue, but most of what I found is specific to a driver. My whocrashed report does not mention a specific driver. This is a Dell XPS 13 which I bought only about a month ago. Also, I should mention that in Device Manager, there is a yellow exclamation next to "Generic PnP monitor" and when I click properties, under device status it says:
"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
{Unable to Load Device Driver}

Error Status was 0x%x"
I do not use an external monitor, so I'm guessing it's referring to my laptop screen. Not sure if this is relevant to the crashes or not.

3 crash dumps have been found and analyzed. No offending third party drivers have been found. Consider using WhoCrashed Professional which offers more detailed analysis using symbol resolution. Also configuring your system to produce a full memory dump.
My mSATA partition has been deleted when I was recovering the windows. how can I install it again. My computer was quite faster than now.
Also, my "Disk 0" seems strange but i dont know why?

Just bought this new XPS 8500 great computer. However, trying to learn the new Windows 8 and Internet Explorer 10 is an experience. Am unable to see all the favorites and realize maybe I should organize them better. Therefore, how would you setup a folder(s) to better organize favorites. I tried to follow the directions by going to Windows website and they state that you click on the add to Favorites and an option related to a folder shows up. However, I only see the option to add to Favorites or to pin to start.

I had upgraded to Windows 8.1 after purchasing Inspiron 660s with Windows 8.0.
Under the Files Folder / Favorites group SkyDrive listed as a favorite. However, at the same level as Favorites, there is a OneDrive folder.
Under Windows 8.1, should not there be only OneDrive listed everywhere? Did something go wrong in the upgrade to 8.1?
I have been trying (without success) to transfer my e-mail folder files from my old computer (Dell Inspiron 530 using Vista) to my new computer (Sony Vaio using Windows 8). The transfer is from Windows Mail to Windows Live Mail.
The recommended method on the old machine using a flash drive is as follows: File-Export-Messages-Microsoft Windows Mail-Select Folder (K:New Folder)-Next-Select Folders-Next.
At this point the folders should transfer to the flash drive. Unfortunately I keep getting and error message that says that "Export did complete successfully and Windows Mail was unable to export all messages" - (in fact only a few messages were transferred) The message then goes onto say that " your disk may not have enough space (it is a 32GB flash drive and has more than enough space!) or that some messages may be corrupted. Run disk clean-up or delete some files and try again". I have done this without improvement.
Another approach that was recommended was to find all of the e-mail files (.eml files) and copy them to the new computer via the flash drive. I can copy them to the flash drive without problem but am not sure how/where to import them into the C: drive of the new computer.
I own a XPS L702X laptop purchased in 2011. Laptop has driver support from Dell for Win 7 and Win 8. But windows 8 drivers aren't working with windows 8.1 and i don't think Dell is in the mood to provide drivers for a laptop which is already 2+ years old.
So i had to collect drivers by myself. I have already got most of the native drivers from Intel/nVidia/Realtek websites.But not able to find the Quickset software. Currently using the one which was released for windows 8, and it gives error when i open the windows mobility center. And after installing, it doesn't remove the "Unknown Device" icon from device manager like it used to do in windows 8 .
Also need "ST Micro Screen Detection Sensor" driver. If i install the old windows 8 driver, it says incompatible with this version of windows.
ASUS X55C notebook I had windows 8.1 installed and my comp stop reading blue rays, so I called tech support. they told me to mail it in. they change my HDD cause a bad sector and installed normal windows 8 but changed my dvd/cd rom drive to matshita dvd ram. I use to have matshita dvd ram UJ8A0AS and it did play blue rays. now i'm calling back and they are trying to tell me that my model doesn't play BR's. that's the reason why I bought my computer. their call center verified all that. so can I add that driver to my device manager.

And both the webcams stopped working. I tried installing driver software from the driver-DVD of my laptop but it also didnt fix it.
The webcam cannot be used by other softwares like skype.
Last night two updates from MS, KB2919355 & KB2961887 were installed. Today the driver for my Epson R3000 printer was gone. Windows 8/8.1 seems to have a problem with this printer, even though Epson claims it is compatible and provides updated drivers. When I updated from Windows 8 to 8.1, it replaced my Epson drivers is a very basic MS generic driver. I had to manually install the Epson drivers again. That was a pain, and took several attempts. Is there a recommended way to install a driver that works?
