How To List Files Of Hidden Volumes That Have No Letters
Nov 15, 2012
When I turned my laptop on for the first time, it installed Windows 8 automatically, which made me think there is a hidden volume somewhere on the hard drive. I listed all the volumes using DiskPart utility and it showed me some hidden ones, as expected. What I want to do now is to explore the hidden volumes' contents, and retrieve the drivers from there if possible. But the problem is, I don't know how to list the contents of those volumes. I could've used DIR command if they were accessible through the letters, but unfortunately they don't have any letters associated with them. how I can list the contents of the hidden volumes.
When I refresh networks, I see all the networks I should (we have an extender, so there are two regions on our house) -- but I also see one called Hidden Network. How do I find out what that is? There are no nearby houses. This has to be emanating from my house.
Cant access to see hidden files and folders. I would suspect a virus, but iam not sure that's even possible. I got Malwarebytes, Super Anti Spyware and Malwarebytes Anti Root Kit, all show 100% clean. I need to see these files?
as you know in Windows 8 if we want to show hidden file , we should go to view then option the change folder and search option then mark the show hidden filed.
is there another easy way to do this?for example add a option in right click menu?(in win 7 shawn posted a registry key that add show hidden file to right click menu but it does not work in win 8)
I much prefer the "list view" in my folders but I don't see way to add "columns" to list view. The only folder view showing these sort tabs is "details" view. Can anything be done about this?
So I'm attempting to extend my windows 8 partition on my computer, I've set myself some unallocated space but when I try extending the volume the bar is greyed out. I can extend my initial volume but when I attempt to do so with my Windows 8 Volume like I said above the bar is greyed out.
I have a 2 TB eSATA drive that contains my backups. This drive has been working well for years and isn't accumulating errors. It was a basic disk until I deleted a partition that I wasn't using any more and expanded the size of the backup partition. That worked fine until yesterday when I was no longer able to access either of the partitions on the drive. Here's the output of the disk manager relating to this drive:
When I use Windows Explorer to access either of the volumes on the drive, I get a message "Z: is not accessible". When I click on Computer, I see both of the volumes on the disk, but there is no information regarding disk space used/available. If I right click on the drive and go Properties/Tools/Error Check, I get a message "The disk check cannot be performed because windows can not access the disk."
However, if I go into Disk Manage, right click on the partition and go to Properties/Tools/Error Check, I can scan the drive! It completes showing that it found the following errors:
Chkdsk was executed in scan mode on a volume snapshot.
Checking file system on Z: Volume label is Backup_Files.
Stage 1: Examining basic file system structure ...
Stage 2: Examining file name linkage ...
Stage 3: Examining security descriptors ...
Found corrupt security descriptor entry at offset 0x80000 in $Secure <0,0x9>:$SDS ... queued for offline repair.[repeated 50 times]
[code].......
I then get a message that I need to reboot the computer to repair these errors, which I do. According to the event log, it repairs all of the errors, but I'm back at the same place that I was before and a scandisk of the volume shows the same errors.
I enabled display hidden and system files, but system auto-disable its... I make it about three times, always with the same result. I don't know what causes this problem, I can't reproduce its (it isn't after reboot).
Also I have similar problem with system restore.I disabled it, but system turned it on again.
Can I delete these old folders from 2012 i posted a picture there are others with random numbers and letters as well that are not folders, they appear to have a windows KB file in theme are they safe to delete? Here is the picture...
I just upgraded Win 8 on my Acer Iconia W3 Tablet (x86) to Windows 8.1. But now I have the problem that in the settings-app and in the righten menu (e.g. the search-function) every text is just a white (or sometimes black) box. In other Apps and on the desktop-applications the text is displayed correctly; and before I have installed Windows 8.1 everything was fine too. Below are two screenshots which should describe the problem.
I just upgraded to Win 8 and as I did my multiple external drives got assigned letters that are not what I had before. No problem. I went o Disk Management to reassign the drive letter but letters J, K, L, and M are not available. There are ones before and after those letters that are available but I need those letters.
Ok I have a Alienware M17XR2 laptop. I just installed windows 8.1 from a formatted start. Got most of the drivers functioning. I have an unknown device which I will address in another thread. Anyway my keyboard lags sometimes while I am typing fast. Never did that on my Windows 7. I'm running 64 bit as well.
windows 2008 R2 server, win 7 and win 8.1 wkstations.
For one domain admin user only, when he logs in he sees normal mapped drives. The longer he's working, he starts seeing more and more letters mapped to the same particular network share. So after a few hours he'll have 12 drive letters all mapped to the same network share.
Doesn't matter what workstation. Doesn't seem to be a particular application.
When entering letters and numbers, that I believe are used to prevent Robo emails, do I have to use upper and lower case letters? I have a heck of a time getting those to take, and have to repeat them several times.
In many programs there are keyboard shortcuts . They are shown as capital letters with a line underneath. How does one use them? I've tried the letter with control key, shift key and alt key and frequently combinations of them but cant get any response.
I am running a script that organises my downloaded files, but opens a cmd prompt every time. Is it possible to hide this in Windows 8? I know it was possible in windows 7 but doesn't seem to work on 8 ...
When I open a picture and I try to go to the following picture by the arrow. The following error appears: " All your photo source are hidden . To show some , change your settings." ????
I have an HP network printer, that's not being used anymore, showing up in my print dialogs, but not under Devices and Printers. How can I get rid of it as it annoys me?
Is there a better than decent way to get to the program list in windows 8, similar to the one we used to have on the start menu, without installing 3rd party applications?
I am the ONWER of my PC and should aloud to edit whatever files I want, but windows knows best so fine... ok... I enabled access to the hidden admin account. Because our user accounts that say admin is a way for windows to make us think we are system admins when we arnt. Every guide in the world says once the hidden admin account is enabled it will have no login password... mine does... what do I do? This PC is fresh out of the box no password was set. I need access to the hidden admin account unless this hidden admin is someone who payed for this PC and didnt tell me? Then Id assume I have the right to use my admin account on the PC.
When I upgraded to Win8.1, it asked if I wanted to automatically connect to my hidden network. I've never set up a hidden network. Sometimes it shows up in my list of WiFi connections. My computer also shows me as belonging to a workgroup, which I never joined. Then one day another network showed up called TOA24 and it was set up to automatically connect. Now it shows up every time I connect to my WiFi connection. Is it possible to determine how my computer joined a workgroup without my knowledge or created a hidden network? I have Norton Security Suite (through Comcast) running on this computer.

What's the comparable way in Windows 8 to make all items in all folders as "list" pls. This is what I do in Win7.
1.open any folder 2.on the right with arrow down, pull down menu list,Details,Titles,Content. Choose list 3.on the left under Organize, pull down menu to Folder and search option 4.click on View tab 5.Apply to Folders 6.OK.
Any way to make all items in a folder appear as List.
I remember that Win XP has the Default Hidden Admin Account that is created when you install the OS and also by default it's not password secured which can be a security issue. By doing a quick search, apparently Win 8 also have this Default Hidden Admin Account.
When in Windows 8 I verify the available created users I see an Admin account. Is this account the 'hidden' one, but made visible?
I also did the prompt cmd: net user administrator /active:yes, but I get a msg saying that there is 'no' user under the name 'administrator' ... maybe the admin user I'm seeing is a microsoft account, not a local account?
