View 1 Replies View RelatedI have hidden all of the foreign language fonts that are Windows 8.1 system fonts. However, the hidden fonts continue to display in Office 2010, Adobe Creative Cloud and Corel Draw X6, as well as other programs and applications.
How do I prevent the fonts from displaying or better -- which ones can be deleted? Surely Windows will function in the U.S. without a Himalayan font loaded.
I've tried using a third party font manager, both NexusFont and Bitstream Font Navigator, but with no improved results.

How to tell the OS that I am not a "portable workstation"?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI know how to select the second screen options, however, my Surface Pro and our Samsung Laptop both running Windows 8 cannot detect a second monitor/screen. We are connecting via the HDMI port, but it will not display no matter what option we choose nor whether we run it from the desktop or apps. This is what we use for work to display presentations for clients.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI tried a clean install on my system which has a Gainward GT430 (nVidia GT430) 1GB display adapter. What happens is that soon after booting from the DVD the display becomes corrupted (blurred and difficult to read) and I can only barely make on what's on the screen and proceed with the installation.
After the point where I format my drive, windows looks like its installing but after the reboot the display goes to sleep, and I have to start over.
On the same system installing Windows 7 had no issues whatsoever. Installed fine with nearly all the drivers available natively to windows. I was installing Windows 8 64 bit using original media.
I am unable to change any permission for any folder . every option that supposed to be available for setting the permission is gray out!! , for some of my files I see the owner is "unable to display the current owner". The problem is the same for every single folder and file. I checked other systems (friends laptops and desktops) and they are working just fine ! but I am just unable to modify any permission for any folder or file !! even I tried to change the owner but it didn't worked !

how I get Samsung LC27A750XS USB display drivers (win7x64) to work on a Samsung NP900X1b with the Windows 8 CP installed?
The drivers won't start at all. The built in USB3.0 hub is recognized and working flawlessly, but the USB display driver continues to report it can't be initiated as there's reg keys missing.
I've reinstalled the win7x64 drivers over the Windows 8 defaults but nothing is resolving. I'm trying to use either for extended viewing or as the primary display while at my desk.
I am aware that the start up menu has been moved from msconfig to the task manager in Windows 8. However, I am running into issues because I have other third party software starting up with my computer such as Norton internet security, Dropbox, etc. But those processes do not appear within this tab and never have. I would like to find out, is there an alternate way of accessing these entries in order to either enable or disable them?
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I logged in my windows 8 I was surprised when I found that most of the tiles that were in my start menu disappeared even the desktop tile and the store tile.
I found an article that suggests creating the apps shortcuts and pasting them in this folder
%ProgramData%MicrosoftWindowsStart MenuPrograms
But when I opened this folder I was surprised again to find all my tiles shortcuts there. Nothing is missing at all even the desktop shortcut and store shortcut are there.
Why don't these apps show up in the start menu? I don't remember doing any thing the last time I used my laptop except uninstalling and reinstalling Visual Basic 6
Note: after some research I found a reference to this path
C:Users[User]AppDataLocalMicrosoftWindowsApplication Shortcuts
When I'm pasting my shortcuts there they are appearing in Start Screen and I also noticed that when I install any new application it is not added to the start screen automatically as usual ...
How do I perform the above subject while in Windows File Explorer in Windows 8. In Vista and other OS'ss I could easily find where to add a shortcut to the list of ALL PROGRAMS.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have had my Windows 8.1 Pro x64 install since February. Now I think it is time to deal with this once and for all.
I have an extremely powerful computer, 3930k, 64gb ram, RIVE, 840 Pro SSD so hardware is not the problem.
I recently got another Windows 8 (enterprise) laptop (not 8.1) to compare with, and it boots at exactly the same time as my desktop, but the laptop loads all startup items within 1-3 sec, but my desktop takes as said 1 minute and 20 seconds each time.
I have used this guide and many similar: Startup Delay Time - Reduce in Windows 8
I once changed the value to 10 minutes in milliseconds, and it took 10 minutes, but when I change to 0 milliseconds, or lets say 1000 ms for 1 second, it still takes 1 min and 20 seconds.
On my laptop I can change the value StartupDelayInMSec however I want and it will work, but I cannot have it low on my desktop and make it launch all startup items below 1 min and 20 sec.
All my items in picture library are gone from my hard drive. not in recyle bin i have scanned using recover software and they are all listed when I go to photo app displays photos then says they are not accessible. How this happened folder option is not hidden, I search hard drive for .jpg .mov files and nothing! yet they can be seen by scanning using recover software.
How I can recover files that i now cannot access!!! totally baffled how this happened.
I just found out through my AV that there is a hidden folder category I can't seem to find normally.
And I wonder why and how I can tell windows to let me see it, the folder path is as follows:
C:UsersAll Users
Only way for me to see it is to actually type in the above in the adressfield in file explorer.
As in why and the reason it is so super hidden.
Sometimes when I restart or shut down and restart my system, the folder option somehow are being changed. I have to go to the folder options in control panel and reset the options to default. this will correct the condition until the next time restarted. I believe the condition existed before the update from 8 to 8.1 ....
View 6 Replies View RelatedHad to defeat the password. Then files and pictures would not show up in my DropBox this never happened in Win 8.0, it needed upgrade to DropBox strange Microsoft did not work with DropBox or include the upgrade path in 8.1. Next my WiFi would not connect to computer running Win 8.1 never had this problem in Win 8.0 had to search for upgraded wireless drivers to solve this item, i would have thought Microsoft would have noticed this in their testing. Then there are these little pop up notices of memory problems, when no problems are being had. I am still getting used to dealing with Windows 8 and the fun of having some of my year old programs not being able to install. I am just glad i have a few other computers running Win7 and working very well. The jury is still out with my Windows 8 so i hope things will get improved, or just better usable will make me happy.

When I went to Shared Files I found these two entries and I don't know which one to remove:
HPDrvMntSvc-Application File or

I've set several folders and drives to be shared on the network with read/write permission. The problem is that each time I start Windows, I can only Access the shared items across the network with Read permission, instead of the read/write I originally set, so I have again to right-click > share with > read/write.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIn a Dell notebook, o/s Windows 8.1, from an icon in the Desktop or in the Quick Access area IE opens behind the Desktop. The tabs for MSN and another user specific opening page can be seen above the Desktop window. I could not find a way to alter this strange behaviour or find its cause.
The laptop is new and has displayed this problem previously and returned to normal behaviour without input from the owner/user. The problem recurred after a restart following the installation of TeamViewer and Malwarebytes AntiMalware.
I didnt have this problem in windows 7 and it makes me want to go back to it sometimes because if this glitch.
windows 8 boots and after logging in,sometimes doesnt start programs that are set to load.
EFI installed with GPT
intel 2600
16gb memory
nvidia 580gtx
2tb drive
I have fastboot disabled
programs that sometimes dont load
msi afterburner
logitech mouse software (without the software my g5 mouse is slow)
hp software
antivirus
rebooting the computer fixes the problem and all programs load.
This problem also happens on a fresh install after a couple of week and the event log is field with errors stating the service could of start, failed start, couldnt find service.
I ran chkdsk, sfc and all passed. And like I said rebooting the computer loads fine and event log for the reboot shows no errors.
On attempting to open a couple of items in Documents, I got back the error box: ' The requested operation requires elevation'. What does that mean?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have several control panel items that do not open. I get a message indicating that they are looking for an associated program.
After some research I figured out how to create a shortcut that opens the control panel item (example:firewall.cpl) by using its canonical name, and its GUID. Example I created a shortcut for default items using "C:Windowsexplorer.exe shell:::{17cd9488-1228-4b2f-88ce-4298e93e0966}" as the target.
However, I really would like the control panel to work properly. I don't know how to move the shortcuts I have created for the *.cpl files that no longer work into control panel. Alternatively, I would like to know if there is a way I can automatically "refresh" my system (without having to reinstall Win 8) so the control panel items work properly.
Just upgraded and curious to know if there is a way to make the system search a little more fluid.
I used the WIN key to search for files mostly in Windows 7 and it would just display the file, so i only had to hit enter to open the file.
Now i get
Apps
Settings
Files
I need to search, then click files.
Is there a way to just show all items for a search term.
I am familiar on editing context menus in Windows Explorer but how do I edit the context menu of items (folders, programs, shortcuts, etc) on the desktop.
