Since installing Windows 8 to my laptop, I can no longer display to my Samsung USB hub monitor.
When I try to duplicate or extend, the hub says 'Connecting to PC...' but then nothing happens. Something is working as my mouse and keyboard are plugged into the hub and they work. I just cant get the display. I think all my drivers are up to date.
I have an Acer Aspire laptop which has recently stopped booting up. It doesn't display anything when powered on. I know it is not a problem with windows because it doesn't even display the Bios boot screen. Why is this? The fans start but I cant hear the hard drive.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 1545, the screen is broke so I use an external monitor which doesn't project BIOS or Boot up so I cannot see anything. I found a thread on here that adds the Intel Graphics Driver for Mobile 4 Series for Windows 8 which I supposed would work on 8.1.

Mobile Intel Series 4 and Intel HD Graphics 1st Generation. I installed it and restarted the laptop for the GUI to start.
But as I restarted, the screen was blank. I tried cycling through projection modes as I usually do, but this time It didn't work.
I have no clue of how to remove the driver to as I cannot see anything on the external monitor as I've tried it on 2.
I've tried booting into Safe Mode but as I've said, I cannot see anything on the screen so I'm not sure where I am.
I went and bought a new laptop since my old one was starting to die on me and stuff. It's a Samsung ATIV Book 4, and it's really nice. This is the first hick up I've had with it so far, and I noticed it happening today. I noticed my screen was really dim today as I was using it, so naturally, I use the Fn key to turn it up, but nothing happens. Up in the top left of the screen, it shows a little brightness meter going up and down as I turn it up and down, but nothing changes. I went to the power options menu and tried to adjust it there, and alas, nothing happened. I even tried disabling the display driver and restarting it, but that didn't do anything.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a problem of windows 8.1 and my laptop (HP EliteBook 8560w). My display is full HD (1920x1080), 15.6", GPU: nVidia Quadro 2000M. When I installed windows 8.1 (all version, 64 bit) the GPU driver is updated automatically at lastest version (327.31). But some 3rd application ex: Google chrome... is blurry. Then, I chosed the option "Let me choose one scaling option for all my displays" at 125%. All thing is OK.
But whenever I started my windows, my display always flashing one time, about 1-2s. it's very inconvenience. Because of that problem, I downgrade to windows 8.0. But i still want to use windows 8.1 ....
I'm running a custom build PC on which I clean installed a (legal) copy of Windows 8.1
My system works fine except it can not install drivers for ANYTHING non-standard. Keyboard, mouse, memory sticks, HDDs all work fine, however when I plug in my phone/tablet/camera etc via USB, it fails to install drivers and I can't use my device.

I am trying to troubleshoot a problem I am having with a non-typical HID device. The device in question is called a NEO2, manufactured by a company called Renaissance Learning. This device is used in schools for students to test 'smartapplets' on. These smartapplets teach things like keyboarding and math, etc. The device looks like a keyboard with 2x8 inch LCD screen on it. Typically you are able to connect this device to a computer and it will transfer the information to an application that can manage it all.
The problem that I am having with it is that when I connect this device to a computer, it should install 2 drivers back to back. This is how it had previously worked on all Windows operating systems in the past. You connect it, it installs a standard HID driver for allowing the device to be used as a secondary keyboard, then another driver to allow the device to connect to the NEO Manager software. Windows 8 will install the HID driver automatically, but not the second driver.
When I view the device in Device Manager, I can see it there with an asterisk by it, as if it knows that drivers were not installed properly. Right click the device, choose to update drivers and choose the search option. It will find the drivers locally (I know this since fiddler did not report any communication http wise) and then install them and everything is fine. So, this is my question. What has changed in Windows 8 that now does not install both drivers automatically as other versions have in the past? The drivers are signed properly, and I see no events in any section of the event viewer that would denote an issue. I also tested turning off the strict driver enforcement or whatever that was called, and it did the same thing. This happens on both the 32 and 64 bit versions of Windows 8. It works on all other versions from Windows XP to Windows 7.
So I upgraded to Windows 8 today and finally finished all the installations only to find that using a 1920x1080 resolution means that the display is too big for my screen (a 32" Samsung full HD TV). The screen is cropped by about a half a CM all the way around. I had to revert to a 1776x1000 resolution for the display to fit properly on the screen but would much rather use the highest possible setting but I cannot seem to fix the problem.
I am running 64-bit and have updated all display drivers and completed windows updates. My GPU is an ATI Radeon HD 5800 series.

on Acer Aspire Windows 8 - All the drivers I have to instal, do not include an installation program and I have to instal the drivers manually. I don't know if I am doing it right or if there is an easier way of doing it but I have to right click the downloaded Zip file for Bluetooth, extract all files, search for the Bluetooth folder in Device Manager to instal the driver. I have got six drivers (not all Bluetooth) to instal and just want it get it right. before I upgrade to Windows 8.1 again.

I bought a dell 3521 laptop today. The first thing I did is backup the operating system to USD using the dell restore application. Then I installed the SSD and tried to restore my installation to the ssd. It fails because it says it can only be restored to a drive of 1TB (like the original hard drive.)
A restore dvd was not included in the system and I do not want to wait for 2 weeks untill I sort it out with dell to send me one. Any option in order to install windows 8 to the SSD without using the installation disk.
I thought of installing a previous windows licence I had (windows 7) , but when I try to install it from the bootable flash drive, it does not accept it as a bootable device. It must have something to do with the UEFI.
I have a windows 8.1 laptop and I'm trying to install this theme to it right now. I'm new to custom themes but I've already used UxStyle to patch and ran the RIbbon Disabler as per the instructions. However, for some reason, whenever I install themes all I get is the basic colors that the theme is supposed to be, as if I just went under the personalize settings and changed the window color to white. There are no rounded windows as shown in the image and the minimize, restore down, and close buttons look the same as always (in the picture they are shown as grey & red circles). I'm probably missing something because I'm so new to this, but I've followed the basic instructions for installing themes.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've just bought a Toshiba L855 with Windows 8 factory installed. So, I'm trying to learn two things at same time, Windows 8 and the laptop functionality. One of the details that I don't like is the automatic power on and boot up every time I open the display, regardless... may be useful for other users, but not me.
Although there is an option to disable that Panel-open/Power-on, still does it! The "disabled" status is there, but nothing changed. It keeps starting up.
I haven't installed anything yet to the PC until I'm really sure there is nothing wrong with the hardware, I hope is not a warranty issue.
BTW, I have two administrator users, my wife and I. We tried disabling that power up with each user logged and still won't work.
I've upgraded to windows 8.1 a few days ago through a custom install as I was running windows 8 x86 and wanted to switch to x64. I've also just updated the BIOS.
After the upgrade though, my laptop goes into sleep/standby and locks the screen instead of turning off the display as I have it set. So, if I edit any power plan settings to turn off the display after 2 minutes, it will go to sleep after 2 minutes.
Downloaded this AM to 8.1 from Win 8. Have an old Gateway laptop, can't afford to get new even though I need one. The display is very dark - it was fine with Win 8. Is there some setting I need to change - can't find any way to make it brighter. Like I said, it was fine before & I didn't change any settings myself.

I bought a new laptop with windows 8 pre installed. when i turned it on and after loading and loading windows gives error:
"Windows could not install on this computer, restart your computer to continue............ i restart and get the same error and so on....... This is a new laptop that i just got now ....
My dell inspiron n5010 running on Windows 8, today all of a sudden started showing some grains on the display.Soon after it happened, it showed me a message which says
"Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restarts. were just collecting some error info, and then well restart for you (100% complete)".
The system restarted by itself and it started running system repair. The system repair screen is also grainy. After the repairing is done, it restarted showing Windows 8 logo(that too with grainy display).But nothing really happens after that and it its stuck. So I decided to switch it off and turn it back ON after sometimes. I did that and the PC booted with no issues with the display perfectly fine. But the same issue is repeating again and again and I will have to shut down the system for some time and then again turn it back ON to make it run normal.
I am fixing a customer's laptop Lenovo N585 and when I push the power button to turn on the machine, I will hear the fan spinning very low but no display. I already hook up a monitor to it but nothing happen. I pressed the FN / F3 buttons and still no display. I even removed the bottom cover to reseat the ram and still no display.

We are connecting via the HDMI port, but it will not display no matter what option we choose nor whether we run it from the desktop or apps. This is what we use for work to display presentations for clients.

My problem is that it won't run the Alienware OSD application which is supposed to replace the default windows icons when using the function keys. Before I installed windows 8.1, I could just move a mouse or press any key and display would turn on, but since the installation I have to restart my laptop (Samsung ultrabook), even if I can hear it's on and working.

And the next day the problem occured; After bios and Windows 8 loading screen ( the little dots going round, just below the windows 8 icon ) my screen goes black and there's no signal to the display. I've already tried formatting my hdd and installing windows 8, also tried doing Reset option, from the Windows 8 troubleshot system. I can't access my Safe Mode, because it tells that Windows can't finish the installation in safe mode ( After installing the new system I format all the data and it goes just fine until the windows icon and "Preparin your devices" sign. It goes 100% and gets black again.

Firstly my screen and WiFi randomly stop working (at different times).
The screen goes blank (black) and it won't do anything (even caps lock) so I think it's completely frozen. Usually I hard reset, but today I got distracted and it eventually came back. No event logs or anything.
With the wifi, it says it can't detect any networks (red cross icon) and again the only fix is a hard reset, reinstalling drivers doesn't work.
Finally, recently my fingerprint scanner wouldn't let me log in. It says in biometric devices that it's unavailable, but none of the explanations applicable. I tried deleting my metrics and reinstalling but nothing...
I have an HP pavilion tx2 1250ea but I had to replace the motherboard and it's a 1050 or something, but obviously it's compatible.
I have a Lenovo laptop that came with Windows 8 pre-installed. I decided I want to dual boot with XUbuntu.
I shrank my partition and left space for the linux distro. I installed xubuntu into the free space, and even set the bootloader installation to be in that partition as well.
Then after installation, I only get the GRUB bootloader. How to get Windows 8 back and I finally be able to boot into either OS.
However, I have lost the blue UEFI boot manager that Windows 8 should display.
So I get EasyBCD on Windows, try lots of options to regain an original boot manager. But instead of the typical blue UEFI screen, it created a black screen with my boot options (and the linux option doesn't boot from there).
So to summarise, my boot sequence is like this:
-Switch on laptop
-See GRUB, with default pointing to Windows. I am able to boot to linux from here.
-Click Windows and then see Windows Boot Manager (black) with Windows and Linux
-Click Windows and it boots. Click linux and get an error.
I have secure boot enabled, and I installed xubuntu in secure boot mode.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a new Dell Inspiron 15 7000 laptop with an i7-4510U, Intel 4400 Graphics, 1920x1080 screen, and Windows 8.1. I have noticed that the display will brighten and dim when switching between apps. For example, going from a dark desktop background to a white background such as File Explorer, it will take the display about 5 to 10 seconds to brighten to the appropriate level. Going back to the desktop it will dim and sometimes even show a quick flash. I have the display set at 60% brightness and have turned off the adaptive brightens. Also using the latest Intel drivers. Exhibits this behavior on battery or AC. Never seen this on a laptop before.
