Pictures Library - Get Only Black Boxes
Mar 9, 2012In the Pictures Library I can view some pictures, but for others I get only black boxes. All those pictures show perfectly in Photo Viewer and in Explorer.

Sep 29, 2012Windows 8 has been having very strange rendering errors, the desktop still works fine but the rest is all strange blurred with black boxes. What the problem is it just suddenly showed up as that.

Nov 17, 2012I used the file explorer on desktop to move a bunch of pictures off an external backup drive and into the pictures folder within my pictures library. They now show up under the pictures library in desktop. But the Metro Pictures app insists that there are no pictures in my pictures library.

Jan 17, 2013I can't get into my Documents folder. Every time I go to get into it, this little pop up message come up.
It tells me:
" "Documents.library-ms" is no longer working. This library can be safely deleted from your computer. Folders that have been included will not be affected."
I have also include an image of the message.
It also happens when I try to get into my Pictures folder. Just lays "Pictures.library-ms" etc etc etc comes up.
Apps / Software :: Windows 8.1 - Photos App Won't Display Any Pictures In Library?
Apr 27, 2014The Photos app on my Windows 8.1 Pro PC won't show any pictures either in the Pictures Library or in OneDrive. It only can display folders but not pictures. In other Windows Store apps, another weird things happens. The photos show up but with no thumbnails. I tried a reformat and reinstall and the problem disappeared. That is until I signed in my Microsoft account. The problem comes back.
NOTE: I'm using Hotspot Shield because an error appears every time I install Windows updates or Windows Store apps. I use Hotspot Shield to bypass this error but even disabling it doesn't solve the problem.
Live Boxes Have Not Recent Language?

Im from cyrpus/turkey so my native language is turkish but Im using english in all of my devices. So I changed the language regional settings of win 8 to all english united states except the region is cyprus and input lang is turkish Q keyboard.
Even though, in my metro UI the weather and news, mails contents are in english, the live box titles remain the old language which is turkish that I do not want to see.

I suddenly got one today on the left side of the screen - "Switching between applications........swipe from side of screen, etc....." I can't get rid of it, and it's driving me mad. I could restart, but I use DNS, MemoQ, etc, so it always takes a while to get started again.
Letters Are Not Shown In Particular Apps - White Boxes
Aug 2, 2014I just upgraded Win 8 on my Acer Iconia W3 Tablet (x86) to Windows 8.1. But now I have the problem that in the settings-app and in the righten menu (e.g. the search-function) every text is just a white (or sometimes black) box. In other Apps and on the desktop-applications the text is displayed correctly; and before I have installed Windows 8.1 everything was fine too. Below are two screenshots which should describe the problem.

Hidden Tray Icons Turning Into White Boxes Over Time
Mar 6, 2013Win 8 Pro. After a couple of days uptime my tray icons in the hidden pop up are turning into white squares, which makes them hard to identify. I tried rebuilding the icon cache as found here, Icon Cache - Rebuild - Windows 7 Forums which seemed to solve the problem. But a few days later an icon has turned back into a white box, a bandwidth meter.

Add Other Folder Than Library To WMP Or Zune
Jan 30, 2014having ordered a new sound card and speaker set, I've been thinking of gradually upgrading my MP3 collection to FLAC. I also still have a Zune HD, which I wasn't planning on replacing, which doesn't play FLAC. To this end I'd keep a MP3 copy of the flac collection for Zune to sync to the HD.
Now the problem: Windows media player and Zune both look in the same folder for their media library!! So I can't tell WMP to look at the FLAC while having Zune look at the MP3 using the standard music library in windows... Is there a way to have either program look at a different folder than the standard library?
Cannot Open Library Folders
Jul 11, 2013I don't know when it happened, although I suspect it could be due to the last set of updates I downloaded.. All I know is that for some reason, I cannot access my library folders.
Double clicking on the folders does absolutely nothing. I get no errors of any kind either. This is what I've done so far to try and fix the problem:
1) chkdsk /spotfix (no bad sectors found)
2) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth (the component store corruption was repaired, whatever that means)
3) sfc /scannow (all files verified successfully)
4) Deleted library folders and then reset to default (did not work)
5) Windows 7 library registry fix (did not work)
None of these worked, and I'm at my wits end. I can still access the actual information, by going to C:Users. But I'd still like to be able to use the library function.
How To Get Quick Access To Library
Jan 5, 2013I just upgraded to W8P and can't figure out how to quickly access Library to get to Music, Pictures, etc. which I do frequently. With W7 it was two clicks on the Start button. I've created a Computer tile on the Start page to access it, but I'm thinking there must be a better way.

Mar 11, 2014Currently in the process of locating my "library folders" to my storage drive rather than keeping them on my boot drive. In the process, I made a mistake of somehow syncing my music folder with my pictures folder. Now they open up to the same directory on my storage drive. At the same time, my pictures folder was renamed to Music.
1.) How do I disconnect my original "pictures folder" (which is now renamed to music and is essentially the same folder as my music folder).
2.) How do I rename it back to "pictures" ?

Dec 11, 2013I use snip a lot to use as post attachments and they are saved by default to Pictures.
When I am attaching any pics to posts when I go to Manage attachments it always defaults to Desktop. Is there a way to change this to default to Pictures?

My friend Leo, installed and boots from an SSD I gave him. He loves it. He also like that he can still boot from his old hard drive. If he accesses something via the library links that he had set up tho, it causes Windows 8 to report disk errors on boot that need to be fixed.
How would Leo go about disabling the libraries that he has set up? And is this the real issue for the errors? (Leo says that that he gets no errors unless he accesses something via the libraries).

Jul 28, 2013I don't use WMP, but decided to give it a try as part of a test about some audio cutout and freeze problems with foobar player being discussed in a General Support thread and elsewhere. After adding the ASIO plugin from SourcForge and adjusting settings, I removed the two default locations from the library and added my own music folder. WMP then started to load mine, but after three or four items, the program crashed. On every reopening, it starts to load more of mine, then crashes again within a few seconds.
