Does Windows 8 include Works? Most of the previous editions did although I don't remember if Windows 7 did.
View 1 Replies View RelatedFirst of all I want to say that this is not much big of a deal to me but still annoying nonetheless. I noticed that in some scenarios, for some reason, the "Properties" option in the rightclick menu of a file doesn't do anything when clicked on. You'd expect that a properties box of the concerning file would show up but nothing is happening. So far I noticed this in the following 2 scenarios:
1. When selecting multiple files in the Recycle Bin at once and then right click and choose Properties. Selecting only one file in the recycle bin and clicking Properties does work normally.
2. When right clicking on a picture that is shown with Windows Photo Viewer and then choosing Properties.
Are these bugs that Microsoft developers might have missed or is my PC at fault here? I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro x64 with Medica Center.
I'd like to have it affect all remaining submenus + files like in win7
View 6 Replies View Relatedon my other notebook, dekstop's menu disappears on start, but i can find it on all apps, how ca i get it back?
*consider that dekstop's menu disappears from the picture ) and i've just installed office 2010, but there's no office's menu on start,, how can i pin it on start (there's no option 'pin in start' while right clicking office's icon on explorer)
My screen in the PC settings is black like i turned high contrast on in the start menu my user name and the text "start" have black rectangle around them, the right side menu that you open with the mouse in the corner of the screen is black too
Here are some screenshots

Some of my hidden icons on the task bar have extended menus in them. So I will right click on avast and then in that menu is an arrow for a submenu under update. I click on that submenu and it displays to the right and off the screen.
Was never an issue with windows 7. If it would extend off the screen it would move the submenu off to the left of the original menu. I have classic shell running as well, would that be the cause of the issue? Or is it a windows 8 thing?
The borders of any current window that is open turns black. May it be a web browser, application, or explorer. The background of the taskbar menu is black as well. When i click on the menu bar or any application (web browser, software app) it flickers. When I open the task manager the whole window flickers. When I right-click on something the menu flickers too.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAlthough I don't really miss the Classical start Menu any more It's quite useful to have a quick popup of some programs you use from time to time that don't always warrant being either pinned to the desktop or the taskbar also with SUB MENUS where appropriate -- All the tools like WIN-X editor that I've seen don't allow sub menuing or need fixed location toolbars or folders so here's an EASY way to do it - although it's manual so perhaps knowlegable people with some programming skills who know some scripting could easily automate the process.
An Easy way to do this actually exists in WINDOWS itself by the use of a bit of trickery and Custom toolbars -- you don't NEED any Registry hacks etc. Also you can save your created toolbar so you don't need to re-create it or go through the whole process again if you re-install Windows again either.
Taskbar - Pin or Unpin a Folder - Windows 7 Forums Toolbars - How to Use in Windows 7 and Vista - Windows 7 Forums
1) Create a Folder anywhere on your system say on Vol D: and call it My Progs.
2) Create a Custom toolbar (right mouse click on bottom taskbar==>toolbars==>new toolbar
3) Select the folder location to the one you've made D:My Progs.
Now the trick is to POPULATE this folder correctly.
For Items that don't have any sub menus - for example on my system I'll take Winamp. You need to find the FILE LOCATION - easy way to do this is to search in the applications and then RIGHT MOUSE CLICK on the .exe file and then SEND TO DESKTOP (create Short cut).
Now on the DESKTOP RIGHT MOUSE CLICK on the icon and choose COPY.
Go to your folder D:My Progs, chose Paste Short cut. Then delete the desktop icon if you don't want it on your desktop.
Now if you want SUB levels - create a Folder in the My Progs folder and then simply copy the procedure above.
You can do this for as many levels as you want.
For the TOP level items say Office Create a Folder Microsoft Office. As an example I've also added one Classic Games.
If the link is ALREADY a short cut then just past direct into the My Prog folder - you don't need to create a short cut first.
Finally re-arrange it so it appears on the screen at the most convenient place for you.
"Seemples" -- Bye Bye Startisback or any of those 3rd party apps -- I think my method is far more flexible and you can have ANY number of toolbars too.
I've shown two screen shots here with a small test toolbar - Office and Classic Games have lower levels and the other one is the example My Dir containing ONLY short cuts and folders.
I am not finding a way to include my icloud email address in the Win 8.1 mail. I had Windows live mail, but the download to 8.1 has left me to see a dll is missing window when I try to view my mail. I like being able to sync my mail with devices...but it appears Win 8.1 may not allow it.

View 3 Replies View RelatedPrior versions of Windows included sample photos, videos and music files from Microsoft.
I have a new install of Windows 8 Home, 64 Bit OEM version and when I look in My Pictures, My Videos, and My Music these libraries are empty. In the past after installing Windows, I used these files to do a quick check to see that sound card and other parts of the system were working. I went to try that in Windows 8 and no files!
I do not know if they are there but in a new location, or if they are no longer included, or if something went wrong with the install, or something else.
I am also not finding any sample photos when I start up the Photo Tile App.
My N5110 has Alps TouchPad, but latest drivers for Windows 8 but it seems that they don't include new features... Whats the point changing the version number of the driver and says its Windows 8 compatible?!
Why new gestures aren't included? When will they be included?
I have an Asus Transformer that comes with a 30GB SSD and 8.1 - so space is at a premium. I put my user files on a 64GB MicroSD card and was trying to Include the folders into the relevant libraries. That works well when I do it and the SD folder shows under e.g. Documents. But when I go back later to Explorer, it is nowhere to be seen.
Then I try to include it once more, but at that time it says that the folder is already included. Where is it hiding. The folders are accessible via the SD card though.
I must have clicked on something. I used to have a "Playto" in the context menu when right clicking on a video, for some reason it is now missing. How to get it back.
View 6 Replies View RelatedAs far I know all MS windows 8.1 updates are installed, but the problem is I don't get the context menu when I right click any tiles in Metro. So I can't remove or re-size anything. When I right click it only give me check mark in right side the box.

View 8 Replies View RelatedWhat I'm running into is a problem trying to add a handler for any file to the context menu. I add a key to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT*shell and add a key to that as command. What happens is, instead of just running the program with filename as param, I get a dialog "always use this program for this file type" with a checkbox checked, or "keep using blah blah"
If I uncheck the box and hit Enter, nothing happens. So I can't run an "all files" handler without assigning it to every file type I happen to open with it. I'm sure the registry is a big mess.
What did they change since Windows Seven? I don't get it.
How i can add any items Here :

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm really annoyed by the context sensitive ribbons in the file explorer. The constantly change the look (a coloured tab pops up (library tools in this example picture) and the title name moves) from the window when I work with various files. Even when I have minimized the ribbon the tab pops up.
How do you feel about it? It's like a flash light which makes the GUI very distracting imho.
change it (disable it or a least make the colour from the ribbon-pop-up the same as the window border colour?)
I am familiar on editing context menus in Windows Explorer but how do I edit the context menu of items (folders, programs, shortcuts, etc) on the desktop.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI pinned an application to my start menu, occasionally I need to run that app with Admin privs. All I can find in the Start Screen is the "Run As Admin" option that appears at the bottom of the screen.
It's a real pain to have to click the app near the top of the screen and then slide all of the way to the bottom for "run as admin"..aside from pinning it to taskbar in Desktop (whch is probably where it belongs anyway)?
I’m experiencing this odd and selective issue of options missing from folder context menu, under the choice New in most folders. Certain folders seems to have all the options as should. Down's a pic of a usual situation and the rare occasion of full menu, with Finish OS.
A quick scoop around indicates that the few folders to have full options on drive C are Desktop and Program Data. Some seemingly random folders on other drives also provides the full menu, but most only the option for New folder. This has bugged me to a good degree lately and while doing so unnecessarily hindered my desktop work.
I'm running Windows 8 Pro x64 (non 8.1) with Start8 (v1.16).
Any way to add the command to end a task to the context menu. E.G. When you right click something on your taskbar you could click "End Task" instead of "Close", this would be extremely convenient instead of having to open Task Manager.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed the new Windows 8.1 Service Package 1 update earlier today. I was loving it. They finally got to addressing how bad Windows 8 was for laptops. However, the new context menu in the Start Screen simply does not appear anymore. It was earlier, and I have made no significant changes to the system in that time. When I right-click on a tile now, the only thing that happens is that it gets highlighted. No context menu to speak of. In addition, I can't get a context menu for the "Apps" section either.
