View 5 RepliesI have the latest version of 7-Zip on my Windows 8 Pro 64 bit system, but if I right click a zip file I do not get any reference to 7-Zip. How can I add 7-Zip to the right click context menu?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI pinned an application to my start menu, occasionally I need to run that app with Admin privs. All I can find in the Start Screen is the "Run As Admin" option that appears at the bottom of the screen.
It's a real pain to have to click the app near the top of the screen and then slide all of the way to the bottom for "run as admin"..aside from pinning it to taskbar in Desktop (whch is probably where it belongs anyway)?
I have Onenote installed on my Windows 8.1 laptop.
Is it possible to right click a text document (or any file/document) saved on my laptop and have it sent to Onenote.
Onenote does not show when I right click a text document.
I have used Evernote before and I'm sure I could do this.
Perhaps it is possible but Onenote does it in a different way?
I have a problem with the right click menu opening. When I am in the file explorer and right click a folder or a file it takes a minimum of 16 seconds for the right click menu to appear. As you can imagine this makes the simplest of actions very drawn out. How to sort this out?

View 6 Replies View RelatedAs far I know all MS windows 8.1 updates are installed, but the problem is I don't get the context menu when I right click any tiles in Metro. So I can't remove or re-size anything. When I right click it only give me check mark in right side the box.

View 8 Replies View RelatedWhat I'm running into is a problem trying to add a handler for any file to the context menu. I add a key to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT*shell and add a key to that as command. What happens is, instead of just running the program with filename as param, I get a dialog "always use this program for this file type" with a checkbox checked, or "keep using blah blah"
If I uncheck the box and hit Enter, nothing happens. So I can't run an "all files" handler without assigning it to every file type I happen to open with it. I'm sure the registry is a big mess.
What did they change since Windows Seven? I don't get it.
How i can add any items Here :

Because 100 Tuto to add items on Files Context Menu or Directory Context Menu or Desktop Context Menu but nothing for Takbar Context Menu !
I'm using Windows 8.1 x64 and I'd like to add to the MAIN menu of context menu (just right-clicking) the options to create a New Folder and a New Text Document. Right now I have to go to the "New" option and then select Folder or Text Document.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am familiar on editing context menus in Windows Explorer but how do I edit the context menu of items (folders, programs, shortcuts, etc) on the desktop.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI seem to have to rename a lot of files, I would like to have a right click option to "save as" another file name, is this possible? Cannot find anywhere.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI’m experiencing this odd and selective issue of options missing from folder context menu, under the choice New in most folders. Certain folders seems to have all the options as should. Down's a pic of a usual situation and the rare occasion of full menu, with Finish OS.
A quick scoop around indicates that the few folders to have full options on drive C are Desktop and Program Data. Some seemingly random folders on other drives also provides the full menu, but most only the option for New folder. This has bugged me to a good degree lately and while doing so unnecessarily hindered my desktop work.
I'm running Windows 8 Pro x64 (non 8.1) with Start8 (v1.16).
Any way to add the command to end a task to the context menu. E.G. When you right click something on your taskbar you could click "End Task" instead of "Close", this would be extremely convenient instead of having to open Task Manager.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed the new Windows 8.1 Service Package 1 update earlier today. I was loving it. They finally got to addressing how bad Windows 8 was for laptops. However, the new context menu in the Start Screen simply does not appear anymore. It was earlier, and I have made no significant changes to the system in that time. When I right-click on a tile now, the only thing that happens is that it gets highlighted. No context menu to speak of. In addition, I can't get a context menu for the "Apps" section either.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIm referring to this bottom menu; when I right click my app/programs, nothing pops up below. I also cant rearrange tiles, groups and stuff.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have windows 8.1 and downloading the 13.12 Drivers gave me this program called "AMD Feature Manager". It has a green AMD logo and shows up when I right click anywhere in the desktop, right under "AMD Catalyst Control Center". Whenever I click on it - the program just loads AMD CCC. It seems pretty redundant to include this since I have "AMD Catalyst Control Center" right above it that does the same exact thing. Is there registry edit that can get rid of the option in the Context Menu or can I just uninstall it completely?

View 5 Replies View RelatedDespite folder options being set at double click files and folders annoyingly open with one click. How I can stop this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedAbout since I installed jdownloader this afternoon (and afterwards removed "search protect" with AdwCleaner and Malwarebyte Anti-Malware), my Windows explorer regularly freezes.
It does so whenever I do a right-click on any folder or disk or on the free space inside a folder or disk. It also crashes whenever I open folder, which I have not recently opened or to which I added a big file (bigger than about 1 MB) recently. I could open some folders since this error came up but after adding a file to them, this is not possible anymore. Windows explorer being able to open some folders is probably due to it cashing/indexing some information. I can read everything using cmd (cd & dir) and execute files directly though.
In safe mode Windows explorer works fine.
What I did so far:
- Following this guide (Right-click is slow or weird behavior caused by context menu handlers) I removed all the handlers in the registry in HKCRAllFileSystemObjectsshellexcontextmenuhandlers, HKCRFoldershellexcontextmenuhandlers and HKCRDirectoryshellexcontextmenuhandlers. Deletion of one handle in HKCRDirectoryshellexcontextmenuhandlers called "WorkFolders" only produces an error. I therefore could not delete this one. It did not work. Afterwards I recovered the registry keys.
- I used system recovery to switch back to a state from the day before yesterday.
- I tried disabling all the files in auto-start using the task-manager with no improvement.
- I ran "sfc /scannow", which told me there were some files it was unable to repair. I digged into the log and found the file sfc talked about. The file was completely missing. I got a copy from my notebook and managed to copy that file into the folder. But it didn't work.
What's more, I could not rerun sfc to see if the sfc-error persisted, because my computer froze during login after the restart (during which I also installed some minor Windows updates) and I had to force a restart. This brought up a bluescreen on the first two following restarts. On the third one, recovery came up and I chose automatic repair. After that the system could start again, but "sfc /scannow" now throws an error saying "There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart ...". I tried running "dims.exe /image:C: /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions" in the recovery console, which threw an error saying that it was unable to complete. I also tried rerunning the startup repair, which told me it was unsuccessful. sfc is still not running.
Additionally, and I think this started at about the same time, Avira cannot start its real-time protection anymore. I don't get any useful information out of it, just that it encountered some error. I reinstalled it twice, to no avail.

Whenever I press the right click in order to see the menu it take 3-4 sec to loading, this is so annoying. there is a video i found on internet with same issue!
I am using Windows 8 pro with media center ( up-to date)
Acer Aspire M5 481T( all drivers are up-to date)
I've been dabbling with Windows 8.1 a little bit, and noticed something missing from it--at least, it's missing on my computer. I'd like to know if I am the only person experiencing this.
The problem is quite simple: The right-click menu for the Explorer taskbar icon has disappeared, and it doesn't let me close my open Explorer windows.
I have desktop shortcut icons for the C drive, and two external drives. Also, I have a shortcut icon for my USB flash drive, which I usually keep plugged in for backup.
I can have several Explorer windows open by clicking these icons. They appear stacked in the taskbar. (See diagram below.) If I have only one Explorer window open, the menu will have a Close Window option. If two or more windows are open, it will say Close All Windows.
This menu, and these options, seem to have disappeared with Windows 8.1 Preview.
I just updated my computer from Windows 8 to 8.1 (via Store), and my computer is working fine except for the right-click menu on the Desktop, that is taking forever to load.
First I thought it was some problematic shell extension (specially because Intel Graphics Control Panel was also updated, and the new version had icons along to the options). So I run ShellExView and disabled the mentioned extension, but the problem was still there after I restarted my computer.
Weird thing is that the problem only occurs when I click on a "empty" place on the Desktop, but clicking on icons on the desktop, or wherever else is OK. It's also weird that it occurs both when I'm on the Desktop or when I'm on File Explorer, accessing C:users*username*desktop (it's also weird that, when I'm using File Explorer, sometimes, some desktop icons, such as my shortcuts and folders, disappear).
I am adding some screenshots with the shell extensions found.
Is there a way to customize the Right-Click Start Menu Command in Windows 8.1 (like changing the "Command Prompt" to "Windows Update"...!
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo recently I was switching my desktop background repeatedly, trying out a few images because i wanted to change it. I had been using the right click menu on images, using the available option to 'set as desktop background'. Then, for no apparent reason that option dissapeared, along with the bolded 'open', 'edit', and 'print' options. not only that, but it seems to have slightly rearranged the menu as well as added a few new 'options' that do absolutely nothing when i try to use them.
Preview, rotate right, and rotate left do nothing whatsoever. Open would have opened it in an image viewer i downloaded and set to default, and edit would have opened it in Paint. Images aren't the only things affected. it seems to have happened to .txt files and video files, except the preview and rotate options don't appear.
I can still double click to open these files in their default programs, and use the newly bolded 'open with' drop-down menu to open image sin paint, but it would be nice to have my normal options back.
If I right click a file in windows 8.1 the cursor rotates and it can take a long time for the menu to appear.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a new Dell Inspiron 15r as of this Christmas, running Windows 8. I ran the upgrade to 8.1 but I still have a problem with my cursor wanting to "hover click" on links or browser tabs, as well as being stuck in the down position, when I'm not even pressing on the touchpad left button. I end up selecting an entire region of stuff while moving the cursor across the screen.
I can't figure out what to change or configure in Control Panel, or is it in the Dell Touchpad configuration utility?
In Control Panel/Ease of Access Center/Make Your Mouse Easier To Use I have unchecked "Activate a Window by hovering over it with a mouse." Still happens.
I was just sitting here watching Netflix on my pc with the windows netflix app, and have done countless of times before when all of a sudden the PC restarts itself no error nothing, looked for logs in event viewer nothing but one saying the shutdown was unexpected, I looked for mini dump nothing but turns out my windows 8.1 setup for DMP files nothing there ether, What could have caused this know dump files created at all.
