My N5110 has Alps TouchPad, but latest drivers for Windows 8 but it seems that they don't include new features... Whats the point changing the version number of the driver and says its Windows 8 compatible?!
Why new gestures aren't included? When will they be included?
I installed Windows 8 RTM Pro in my Dell Inspiron N5110 (bios has been upgraded to A11).
After that I update windows and driver (I only have to install touchpad driver because windows detects all others).
It's great if I don't have: my dell get freezes randomly (sometimes it freezes after several hours use, or just after 15mins use). Everythings stop, mouse doesn't move, keyboard doesn't work, hdd's led doesn't blink. The only way to continue to use is hold button key to turn it off, and press it again to turn it on.
I tried this command in cmd bcdedit /set disabledynamictick yes, but it doesn't work.
This is the only issue I got in the way to Windows 8.
I have installed Windows 8 on my XPS M1530.
All good, but the Windows 8 swipe gestures do not work on the touchpad.
I installed the Alps touchpad driver that was working on windows 7, but the special windows 8 gestures still don't work.
I have a Core i5 Dell Inspiron N5110 with 4 GB Ram.I tried Clean Installation of Windows 8 64 Bit (Downloaded From Microsoft Dreamspark Account) with bootable USB many times about every possible management of partitions but it goes black after the installation ,where it says "Getting Device Ready @ 62% Or 60%" , & Restarts Automatically an then it says Repairing Drive E or F, O.o even i have only one partiton of 500 GB

I am using Windows 8 on Dell Inspiron N5110 15R laptop. I had to upgrade my BIOS so as to install and use the most recent operating system, Windows 8. I was Windows 7 user and had to clean install Windows 8. In Windows 7, I was very much familiar with safe mode, but today, when I booted Windows 8 into safe mode (Using PC Settings, Advanced Startup etc.), and I selected "Safe Mode With Networking" on restart, and then a blue Windows logo appears with waiting dots circling, and after that the screen is just black, and even after waiting for quite some time, it is still there, as it "freezed"

TouchPad keeps freezing up on my Dell Inspirion N411Z while using Windows 8-64 bit. I have to close the lid and open it back up to unfreeze it.

The laptops are touchscreen. You use the touchpad to move the cursor around and the Edge gesture is triggered (charms, recent apps etc)....
There are hundreds Windows 8.1 laptops that will be put into production soon. The master image has already been created and installed on all of the laptops by the manufacturer.
Each laptop will be used by several different users for testing, so disabling the gestures per computer per user/profile would be quite difficult.
Model: Lenovo E431
Mouse: ThinkPad UltraNav pointing device
Driver: Synaptics 16.6.4.13
I haven't found a way to do it via group policy or the registry for all users.
I fail to understand why on a laptop (which has no touchscreen) why you would want to have the swipe gestures?
Surely most folks don't look at the touchpad in use, so it is often that one starts off to the right (especially when the pad is off centre), and it is natural to move to the left to find where one wants to start - hey presto the charms bar opens, and if you're not carefull all sorts of events occur which you really don't want.
Any way on my Lenovo Z580 with synaptics 8.1 we have the worst of both worlds - there is no easy option in the Synaptics settings to turn off the gestures, so the option is to do registry editing to the key TouchPadPS2_3 - I have amended the Active Type dwords from 2 to 0. However there is a side effect of this.
When booting, there is now a delay till the process finishes - we now get blue circular processes next to the pointer for approx 40 seconds.
What other edits we need to make to remove this delay?

I have a 2 month old Dell Inspiron 660 running Windows 8.1.that came with windows 8 installed but I upgraded to 8.1 off the internet. Everything worked okay until I did a scan and cleaning with ccleaner. Pretty soon startup was very slow going from the Dell screen to the lock screen to the password screen to the windows welcome screen but windows would eventually load. Now the startup only goes to the welcome screen. That little circle of dots starts spinning and keeps on spinning but Windows never loads. Did I erase some registry files when I cleaned it?
I also wanted to know how load Dos from win 8.1 and how to boot win 8.1 in safe mode.
I recently just upgraded to windows 8 and notice that my media card reader is not working. My usb works fine but when I try putting in my memory card on the slot, nothing happens. Is there a program I have to download or a driver??
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have an Inspiron 7520 and uninstalled and reinstalled the new version of Dell Backup and Recovery Manager -- upgraded to premium to make sure that I would have full ability to use the program. Note: the old version didn't work at all -- hung up on backup, etc. I have rebooted.
When I try and open the Manager interface, I can't. All I get is the clock logo with the hand spinning. I cannot set the destination. I cannot select what I want to back up. I've tried this several times and just get the spinning clock which I end up ending through Task Manager.
I have tried opening the Manager from the installed link on desktop, from my list of programs, from the Start menu, and from the tray icon. Nothing works.
I have an Insipron 17R, core i5 zm2410, NVIDIA Geforce 525m, win8 64bit and I'm experiencing a problem with the hibernation/sleep mode.
About 2 weeks ago my laptop went to hibernation mode after beeing in sleep mode for 2 hours while on battery (to advoid full battery drain).
Now it doesn't do it anymore but stays in sleep mode for the whole time and drains the battery.
I usually detach the power cable from the laptop over night because of the noise from the power adapter and the laptop always hibernated after beeing in sleep mode. I went over the configuration in power options and power plans, and even reseted and configured them again, without success.
The only changes that were made to the system are the important windows updates...
I have a Dell Inspiron 3521 with a DVD RW drive listed as "HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GU70N" and I use Ashampoo Burning Studio 14. When I tried to burn a Video DVD after DVD authoring I get a warning saying "The inserted CD/DVD could not be detected". I tried other software too. They don't seem to detect the DVD too.

I can get it to work by plugging in a HDMI cable into thee hdmi slot and use a monitor. it works perfect like that but my laptop screen stays black. It must be the graphics driver. I tried updating the graphics driver and that didnt work. I then tried installing the driver from the dell site for Windows 7 and that didnt work.

I plugged USB mouse and keyboard and it works just fine. I went to device manager and besides Standart PS/2 keyboard and mouse icons there was orange triangle meaning that i have problem with drivers. I searched drivers online, but unsuccsessily.. Except for one nagging problem - the 4 left/right click buttons do not work! I have tried several drivers and all give full touch pad functionality (scroll and tap/click) and the keyboard stick works - but both sets of left and right buttons refuse to do anything. All worked with Win 7, so I assume it is a driver problem. I currently have a Logitech USB wireless mouse attached which works fine, but I would like to get the buttons on the laptop functioning.

It runs Win7 just fine and I believe it will run Windows 8. My new laptop came with 8 installed so I don't have a box to check the low end specs for running 8. I have Linux on it now and I would like to run both. It boots in to Linux in 20 seconds, about the same time as my new Windows 8 laptop.

Windows was booted ones and it was all fine but when i restarted the computer it consistently led to the screen "your pc ran into problem and needs to restart...." I tried turning back to ISRT and same, I reinstalled windows and turn the acceleration of but after installing the driver an error was occurred says "your computer does t meat the minimum requirements....".
I turned back to ISRT and tried to install the windows again but it could not find the hard drive even after browsing through usb (it was loading and loading but didn't find anything) and now i really don't know what to do...

No matter, I had the recovery media... I made a full system restore... and nothing... it still does not boot.

Dell Diagnostics accused no trouble whatsoever, all the tests performed successfully.
After a lot of tinkering, I managed to go back to Windows 7, the system runs fine, but I am running a trial license of Win 7, as I have not yet bought a license (I actually tried restoring the system using the Dell generated backup disks AND the Windows 8 OEM Disk, provided after those did not work).
What could be preventing Windows 8 from booting, since neither the installation fails, nor the HDD acuses any problem?
I have an Inspiron One 2305 All in One with touch display and was planning to upgrade to Windows 8. However, I just noticed on the Dell Support site that they do not support the upgrade, and thus, don't recommend owners of this computer doing the upgrade.

I'll then be playing Football Manager and when I hit the windows key to go back to my desktop it freezes. I've tried opening task manager and that freezes too, the only thing that functions properly is the metro screen.
I thinking it's a compatibility issue with a program that's causing it.

Yesterday, I restored my Inspiron 15 to it's factory settings. Post-reset, I installed all drivers for Windows 8 directly from the Dell website except for the AMD driver which I took from the AMD website (just wanting to get the latest directly from the source, I guess). I also used that "Dell Detect" thingy to make sure I have all the latest drivers for everything.
After installing, everything worked great, but I realized that when the display turns off / when I shut down the laptop / when I close the lid, it does not turn off the computer or hibernating it or making go to sleep - it just keep running but there is no display, total darkness. Trying to press the power button / F4-F5 / any other button-pressing related solution did not work, only hard-reset.
Googling this issue, I found that it is very common, and many people with almost brand new Dell laptops, just like me, have encountered the same problem. In most of the solutions offered it was said that doing so would cause the system to mainly use the Intel Graphics HD card and not the AMD, meaning that for games and graphics, the AMD won't matter, which doesn't seem to be fair after paying extra exactly so I can have a dedicated card.
Either way, I started with the first which was using Windows Update. After checking the Windows Update updates list, I saw 2-graphic card related items - something called Graphics Adapter WDDM, one for the AMD card and the other for the Intel Graphics HD. After installing this update, I realized I can successfully turn off the laptop.
Once I turned it back on this morning, I got a pop-message:
I then realized that it just simply doesn't see/use/detect the AMD card. This is how my AMD Catalyst looks right now:
Looking at Everest, you can see it only sees the Intel Graphics HD:
However, device manager is still listing the AMD card as if it's properly working:
And if you look at the event log, you can see that initial driver was installed right after the Windows 8 fresh install I made a day and a half ago, and then there's other events, last night, around the time when I installed the Windows Update thingy:
I have inspiron 14r 5420 (with windows 8 ) . I have problems with the laptop after a few days and earlier i had did recover media to 2 CDs. Now during the boot it was verifying my laptop and it say that it would reset the pc to factory backup. Will this process require a format.
