Add Other Folder Than Library To WMP Or Zune
Jan 30, 2014having ordered a new sound card and speaker set, I've been thinking of gradually upgrading my MP3 collection to FLAC. I also still have a Zune HD, which I wasn't planning on replacing, which doesn't play FLAC. To this end I'd keep a MP3 copy of the flac collection for Zune to sync to the HD.
Now the problem: Windows media player and Zune both look in the same folder for their media library!! So I can't tell WMP to look at the FLAC while having Zune look at the MP3 using the standard music library in windows... Is there a way to have either program look at a different folder than the standard library?
Windows 8.1 Library Picture Folder Is Gone
Mar 11, 2014Currently in the process of locating my "library folders" to my storage drive rather than keeping them on my boot drive. In the process, I made a mistake of somehow syncing my music folder with my pictures folder. Now they open up to the same directory on my storage drive. At the same time, my pictures folder was renamed to Music.
1.) How do I disconnect my original "pictures folder" (which is now renamed to music and is essentially the same folder as my music folder).
2.) How do I rename it back to "pictures" ?

Aug 11, 2014I was not able to find the results I needed via Google keywords, I have all my personal files (music, videos, photos, documents) on a separate hard drive so the library folders are directed to the HDD. I was keeping my music specifically on another disc and have now moved the collection onto my files disc so you see the "D:" folder which is the missing music drive directory and I do not know how to delete it.
I need to add a Music folder into the library but do not know how...or change the name of the "D:" folder to "Music" and point it to my the files HDD.
Cannot Get Into Documents And Pictures Folder - Library No Longer Working
Jan 17, 2013I can't get into my Documents folder. Every time I go to get into it, this little pop up message come up.
It tells me:
" "Documents.library-ms" is no longer working. This library can be safely deleted from your computer. Folders that have been included will not be affected."
I have also include an image of the message.
It also happens when I try to get into my Pictures folder. Just lays "Pictures.library-ms" etc etc etc comes up.
How To Turn Off Library Links On Old Boot Drive
Mar 20, 2013When booting from his new SSD boot drive, Leo will end up with "errors" on the hard drives that need to be "fixed" IF he accesses any libraries that he set up on his old hard drive still is the computer.
My friend Leo, installed and boots from an SSD I gave him. He loves it. He also like that he can still boot from his old hard drive. If he accesses something via the library links that he had set up tho, it causes Windows 8 to report disk errors on boot that need to be fixed.
How would Leo go about disabling the libraries that he has set up? And is this the real issue for the errors? (Leo says that that he gets no errors unless he accesses something via the libraries).
Can't Get Metro To Work Including Store
Apr 26, 2014I have had Win 8 on this computer since I bought it about a year ago (came stock). When I first got the computer I went to the Windows store and added some apps. At the time all of those apps I added worked properly. Then I just did not use any of them since really. So I don't know when Metro apps stopped working for me but it has been a while as I have noticed it when occasionally getting to that start screen and trying one out. Did not work and did not care at the time.
I have really only used the desktop mode this entire time.
I have the start button installed and have not had any trouble.
Today when I went to do the Win 8.1 update I was not able to do so as I could not get in to the store and also noticed that the Metro apps were not working. I would tap on one and nothing would happen. Most importantly was the store I was trying to open.
Still I can open any of the programs that I have installed on the desktop from their copies on the Metro screen but none of the programs that I installed from the store including the store itself work. When I click them nothing happens except for Explorer which shows up as a "Metro App" and works. The Store itself will flip open to a blank screen and then back to it's tile when I click it.
So none of the Metro apps work at all, not a huge deal but would be nice if it and the desktop programs did work.
I have read the troubleshooting information from Microsoft and it appears that either I am not doing something right or it is not working. For example when I run wsreset,exe I get an error message "Windows can not find 'ms-windows-store-PurgeCaches" I also signed up for a Microsoft account which was supposedly necessary for using the Microsoft store and while it now shows me as signed in on the Metro Start page it did nothing .
I really would not like to use the restore partition on my laptop to start fresh because I have some very expensive programs that I do not have the discs to reinstall and fear I would loose them. Sony Vegas 11 Pro and Photshop etc..
In the end I honestly do not like Win8 Metro and will probably continue to use it in desktop mode all the time. What prompted me to upgrade to 8.1 was mostly an alert that I only had a certain amount of time left to do the update and figured that I would go ahead and do so now.
While I have the start button on my account to use for the desktop mode it has disappeared from another person I let on as a user and this would add the start button for them by upgrading. Perhaps not a great reason to upgrade as I have not read in depth about any negatives to upgrading to Win 8.1. I guess that is another subject all together but I am concerned that the Metro part not working is just not my computer working optimally.
I did recently replace the 750Gig 5400RPM HDD with a Samsung 840 EVO SSD and the computer itself has been running much better. Boots up in a tiny fraction of the time it did before etc.. So I think I am getting as much performance I am going to get with this i3 processor and max 6 Gigs of RAM. But this Metro issue has been going on for a long time. I do have the option of having a clone of the installed drive by having the original drive available still in case that matters.

Relocate Users Folder To Another Drive - Win 8.1 Pro
Feb 27, 2014I read somewhere, I don't remember where exactly, that it was possible to move the "Users" folder from the main drive SSD to a secondary drive HDD. The SSD would only be used for programs and the OS files, while the "Users" folder will be located the HDD and save some space in my SSD. If I can recall, the process went something like this:
1. Install the operating system, normal, with only 1 User, which automatically has Admin rights.
2. After login in, we would tweak with the Registry and some other places... (This part is what I dont remember)
3. After the system is set with all the changes, we would create a User with Admin rights.
4. We log off and sign in with the new user we created. A new "Users" folder is created in the HDD along with all the new user files, i.e, Documents, Pictures, Movies, AppData, etc.
5. The user that was created upon Installation of the OS is deleted along with the "Users" folder located in the SSD.
I need to know the complete process to avoid crashes and system damages. I will be installing Windows 8.1 Pro x64. There is a website that says that we should NOT move the Users folder published October 2013, while there is another website that explains the process only that this is dated March 2012 before Win 8.1.
Would this affect updates, Win App installations by other users?
Mount Partition As Folder Instead Of Drive?
Aug 11, 2014I will be tri-booting Linux (elementaryOS and Debian) and Windows 8 on a laptop for college. On Linux, you can use a seperate partition and mount it to the /home folder.
Is it possible to do this on Windows 8? to mount the partition at C:/Users, to where instead of having a folder there, a data partition is accessed through the folder?
Desktop Folder (under This PC) Changed To D: Drive?
Sep 15, 2014I don't know how this happened, but the Desktop folder under This PC changed to the D: drive. My system has two partitions, the second of which is the D: drive. The Desktop folder was not only renamed to "D:" but redirected to the drive as well. I tried to delete it from the registry editor and then add it back, but the D: keeps coming back instead. The desktop icon is still there, however.
Is there any way to delete the D: drive and bring back the desktop folder instead under This PC? Screenshot is attached.
P.S. In the screenshot, the actual D: drive (supposed to be next to the C: drive) is not shown because I deleted the partition in hopes of getting rid of the D: drive folder showing up under This PC.

Sep 20, 2013I purchased my cyberpowerpc from newegg.com back in June of 2013 and since I've received it I've had a number of BSOD issues including a hard crash that forced me to reload the OS from the partition, i'm at my whits end with it, I've recently ran a memory test with both Memtest86 and Memtest86+ and both came up with more errors then i can count... I haven't tried taking any memory sticks out because I've seen at least 6-8 variants to each BSOD error message and I'm not sure what can be wrong at this point...

Feb 5, 2013After installing Windows 8 I moved "libraries/My documents" folder to another drive (I have SSD OS drive) but still c: space keeps going low.
I found a folder on my c: drive named by my PC name on the network, e.g. "MyPC" that has 10 GB size and includes the following file tree: MyPC/Documents and settings/Administrator/desktop,Favorites,My documents.
"My documents" seems identical to the Users/Myname/My documents that has been moved to a different drive.
I am the only user and have administrators permissions. It seems this Administrator's folder duplicates my documents somehow. (it's desktop folder is different from MYname Desktop folder). What should I do to clean the space - try to login as administrator and do something about this huge duplicate folder?
Setup Installation :: All Modern Apps Including PC Settings Non-functional
Apr 4, 2014I upgraded to 8.1 earlier this evening and was greeted by an extremely unpleasant error in that all of my Metro apps have now become non-functional, including the Windows Store and the PC Settings apps.
I have spent the last 2 hours trying numerous solutions to the issue, none of which work. The only remaining option seems to be to try "refreshing" my Laptop, but this is not an option as I do not own any Windows 8.1 Installation media. I used the $15 Windows 7 to Windows 8 upgrade offer a few years back, so I don't even have an original Windows 8 CD.
I also really cannot download an ISO as I am currently on satellite internet, it took me nearly two days to download the 8.1 update so I would rather avoid doing that if possible.
I've checked my file permissions, I've tried all of the Powershell commands suggested here and here, none of it has worked. When I attempt to do the powershell commands I get the following error:

Debugging :: Frequent BSODs And AMD Driver Crashes Including 0xa0000001
Jun 24, 2014I get frequent BSODs, AMD driver crashes, screen display errors, game crashes, running Windows 8.1 on my AMD A10-5700 APU w/ 8GB RAM. Videos in browsers (firefox, IE, and/or chrome) are common culprits, as are running certain games (recently, GTA IV). Sometimes the BSODs and driver crashes are repeatable (loading certain games or certain web sites). As far as I know, this has happened since day 1 with this computer (refurb from Lenovo), though the frequency waxes and wanes.
Can sometimes make games work better by reducing graphics settings.
Have tried refreshing windows; the ~30 .dmp files in the diagnostic report are since I did that, less than a month ago.
Have tried removing and reinstalling AMD catalyst drivers.
Have tried removing RAM sticks one at a time, but still get the same problems. Windows Memory Diagnostic did not detect any errors.

Only the folder alone is copied and none of the sub-folders or individual files. I can copy individual files separately, but not the whole folder sub-folder, and files together. Moving Users Folder Back To System Drive To Update To 8.1
Jan 25, 2014Not knowing it would cause problems for me later, I setup a home built computer with a symbolic link for the Users folder from my SSD drive (system drive C) to Drive D. When I found I couldn't update to Windows 8.1 I did some research and discovered I should not have used this method for moving the Users folder and I need to move it back first in order to update.
After doing some research, I decided to follow the knowledge base article found at [URL] .... as my guide to move it back to the system drive. I have started this process and I'm part way through but I have encountered a problem that I can't figure out how to solve.
I booted into safe mode with a command prompt and deleted the symbolic link on my C drive. I followed the instructions in the article to use robocopy to copy the Users folder from my D drive to my system drive but it fails because some system files (like ntuser.dat) can't be copied (presumably because they contain the system info for the account I'm logged into so I am locked out).
I'm not really sure how to get around this and I don't think I'd be able to reboot and get into my system right now unless maybe I recreate the symbolic link from the system drive to d:users.
