I know little about what I am doing! I tried the command in CMD prompt, "dism /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:C:LP.mlc"

Jul 1, 2013I bought an Acer notebook with Windows 8 SL (Single Language) and UEFI BIOS (with Secure Boot) factory installed (Windows Key is set in Bios).
I have the habit of installing all programs and make an image of partition C: in case of having to reinstall the entire system for problems with Windows, HDD exchange or similar cases. With this gain too long and not have to reinstall all the programs one by one.
My HDD is partitioned into 4 parts: C:, E:, F: and G:.
When I enter the Windows 8 app to generate the system image appear two partitions pre-marked for backup: C: (Programs) and EFI System Partition (no drive letter). C: partition is formatted as NTFS, but the EFI is as FAT32.
My question is: when I restore this, how should I format the partition where you install the system again (C ? Format all the partition as NTFS and Backup app creates the EFI partition FAT32 by own?
How it works and how to proceed? I will boot the system by CD-ROM.

I have a Windows 8 Single Language (SL) based system (Notebook Acer), that uses Secure Boot in UEFI Bios and has Windows Product Key recorded at BIOS by factory.
I have a 500GB HDD partitioned in drives C: (228GB), E: (40GB), F: (40GB), G: (78GB) and H: (64GB) and Windows is installed on C: partition.

My main system drive is the C: Drive, which is the 111.79gig HDD. Im not really sure why the 1TB drive is listed as a system drive, as well as being drive 0. Is there any easy way to fix this so everything to do with the system is back on the 111.79gig C: drive where it belongs?

I think I have to use the following commands:

Jan 8, 2013New Win 8 user. I have tried creating a system image using this program but without success. I have an Asus X202E laptop and am trying to create the image on a 1TB USB hard drive. Everything goes well for a few seconds after the backup starts (the progress bar goes about 10% through) but it then halts and gives an error message: "There is not enough disk space to create the volume shadow copy on the storage location....". I have directed the backup to an empty 500GB partition on the hard drive so there should be ample space. Have tried the same procedure with another USB hard drive with the same result.
BTW, both hard drives show up normally in windows explorer.

Would I not get the same result if I created a Disk and Partition Backup using a program like Acronis or Easeus? Mar 30, 2013After doing some digging around I found the system image backup under windows 7 file recovery. Then I go to create system image and everything goes fine and then I get an error message after about half way through the back up . Error message will say something like not enough space on drive to create image and I am doing this on a 2TB external hard drive . I did notice one time I accidentally created 500 MB of unallocated space on this drive but I was getting this this error message before I did that and I am not even sure how I created it. I have another PC with windows 7 and don't have a problem with the scheduled image and data backups being performed weekly. Had this problem with windows 8? Also how do eliminate the 500 MB of unallocated space on my 2 TB External HD which is not really a problem but should not be there . I have my files backed up on this HD although I don't use windows data back up utility which I prefer Sync Back to perform instead .

Oct 19, 2013I have upgraded my Windows 8 PC to 8.1 yesterday and it seemed like everything is working fine until I tried to create System Image. I got an error 0x80780119 saying that there is to little space on one of the partitions.
I started looking into this problem and indeed one of the partitions does not meet the requirements. There are following partitions on my drive:

Partitions were create like this during installation of Windows 8 - clean install from scratch. I am using UEFI so the drive is GPT formatted.
So I thought, OK I can resize my C drive a little, move the partitions and expand the 1st one. I tried using GParted but it is not able to move the MSFTRES partition. It does not recognize the file system on it.
So the question is: Is it possible to "clean up" the 1st partition in anyway? If not, is there anything special about MSFTRES partition? Or can I just remove it and create it a little further and just flag it as msftres with GParted?

Oct 26, 2013I am now getting an Event ID 513 log every time I create a System Image backup using Macrium Reflect Free; however, it doesn't seem to affect the restoral because everything seems just fine after same. Since I have never noticed these logs when running Win 8.0, I'm wondering if this is a brand new issue with 8.1? So, here is my Macrium Free version information and a copy of the Event ID 513 error log. Seeing this log on 8.1 or can confirm it is not present after an 8.0 backup.

Using Dell Backup & Recovery (Pro or Premium), I created a system backup on an external hard drive. This resulted in my external hard drive being partitioned into DBR_Master (F), which used 31.5 GB of the 1TB hard drive; and, DBR_Boot (G), using 23.6 MB. What is DBR_Master (F) all about? What is DBR_Boot (G) all about? In the event of an OS crash, will I be able to re-boot from the external hard drive? How often is it recommended to do a full system backup?
Since a system backup does not backup applications like MS-Office, is the purpose of periodic backups to capture future fixes & revisions to the OS? Since there is still a lot of unused space on the external hard drive, is it ok to save my daily data backups to the external hard drive? I tried to save data backups using File History to the DBR_Master (F) drive but it would not let me. I created a new folder in DBR_Master (F) but that didn't work. I receive a message that the destination was not connected. Where should I save daily data backups? Last question - does it matter whether I use File History or Dell Backup and Recovery to do daily data backups? Are there any advantages or disadvantages to using one over the other -- they seem to do the same thing?

I am backing it up to a external HDD with over a tb of free space but I understand its not letting me perform the backup because the hidden 100mb hidden system partition is full...if i create a larger partition how can I copy that system partition to it? if that is possible....

Sep 15, 2014I got two laptops today, one with Windows 7 and the other with Windows 8, both 64-bit machines.
I don't have a windows 8 dvd around and I don't have the internet to download a windows 8 .iso image.
All I have is a USB stick. I'm not sure how creating a system image works but from the last article I read, both computers must have equal disk size or larger and the destination disk of the laptop for the process is a tad smaller than the source partition.

Apr 26, 2014I have had Win 8 on this computer since I bought it about a year ago (came stock). When I first got the computer I went to the Windows store and added some apps. At the time all of those apps I added worked properly. Then I just did not use any of them since really. So I don't know when Metro apps stopped working for me but it has been a while as I have noticed it when occasionally getting to that start screen and trying one out. Did not work and did not care at the time.
I have really only used the desktop mode this entire time.
I have the start button installed and have not had any trouble.
Today when I went to do the Win 8.1 update I was not able to do so as I could not get in to the store and also noticed that the Metro apps were not working. I would tap on one and nothing would happen. Most importantly was the store I was trying to open.
Still I can open any of the programs that I have installed on the desktop from their copies on the Metro screen but none of the programs that I installed from the store including the store itself work. When I click them nothing happens except for Explorer which shows up as a "Metro App" and works. The Store itself will flip open to a blank screen and then back to it's tile when I click it.
So none of the Metro apps work at all, not a huge deal but would be nice if it and the desktop programs did work.
I have read the troubleshooting information from Microsoft and it appears that either I am not doing something right or it is not working. For example when I run wsreset,exe I get an error message "Windows can not find 'ms-windows-store-PurgeCaches" I also signed up for a Microsoft account which was supposedly necessary for using the Microsoft store and while it now shows me as signed in on the Metro Start page it did nothing .
I really would not like to use the restore partition on my laptop to start fresh because I have some very expensive programs that I do not have the discs to reinstall and fear I would loose them. Sony Vegas 11 Pro and Photshop etc..
In the end I honestly do not like Win8 Metro and will probably continue to use it in desktop mode all the time. What prompted me to upgrade to 8.1 was mostly an alert that I only had a certain amount of time left to do the update and figured that I would go ahead and do so now.
While I have the start button on my account to use for the desktop mode it has disappeared from another person I let on as a user and this would add the start button for them by upgrading. Perhaps not a great reason to upgrade as I have not read in depth about any negatives to upgrading to Win 8.1. I guess that is another subject all together but I am concerned that the Metro part not working is just not my computer working optimally.
I did recently replace the 750Gig 5400RPM HDD with a Samsung 840 EVO SSD and the computer itself has been running much better. Boots up in a tiny fraction of the time it did before etc.. So I think I am getting as much performance I am going to get with this i3 processor and max 6 Gigs of RAM. But this Metro issue has been going on for a long time. I do have the option of having a clone of the installed drive by having the original drive available still in case that matters.
Win 7 To Win 8 With Media Pack
Jan 4, 2013When I upgraded to Win 8 I first got the media pack product key so when I was going through the process I entered the key and got the Media pack during the download.
I have sent a request via the appropriate route for the pack to be sent to my address for my laptop; I know there is one key per pc.
It said it would take up to 72 hours but I have not received it. I called but some person who I could not understand well gave me a site which was the same I initially tried. This time it said it could not be executed.
Perhaps it was because of the address being the same but I am not sure. Is MS closing out this offer? Once you get the "free" pack does it expire in 3 months?

Sep 20, 2013I purchased my cyberpowerpc from newegg.com back in June of 2013 and since I've received it I've had a number of BSOD issues including a hard crash that forced me to reload the OS from the partition, i'm at my whits end with it, I've recently ran a memory test with both Memtest86 and Memtest86+ and both came up with more errors then i can count... I haven't tried taking any memory sticks out because I've seen at least 6-8 variants to each BSOD error message and I'm not sure what can be wrong at this point...

Apr 4, 2014I upgraded to 8.1 earlier this evening and was greeted by an extremely unpleasant error in that all of my Metro apps have now become non-functional, including the Windows Store and the PC Settings apps.
I have spent the last 2 hours trying numerous solutions to the issue, none of which work. The only remaining option seems to be to try "refreshing" my Laptop, but this is not an option as I do not own any Windows 8.1 Installation media. I used the $15 Windows 7 to Windows 8 upgrade offer a few years back, so I don't even have an original Windows 8 CD.
I also really cannot download an ISO as I am currently on satellite internet, it took me nearly two days to download the 8.1 update so I would rather avoid doing that if possible.
I've checked my file permissions, I've tried all of the Powershell commands suggested here and here, none of it has worked. When I attempt to do the powershell commands I get the following error:
Code: Add-AppxPackage : Deployment failed with HRESULT: 0x80073CFE, The package repository is corrupted.error -1121: Windows cannot process a deployment operation because the package repository database encountered anESENT error. Use the Reset Your PC feature to recover your PC.
