View 1 RepliesI have a Win 8.1 tablet and I'm the only user. Is there any way to disable the creation of new local accounts?
View 1 RepliesI installed the Windows 8.1 a number of months ago. Since then (I'm thinking, now), I could not sign in with my microsoft account and neither could I get an energy report using the admin command prompt, and was also having problems with the One Drive sync. I never thought these were related, but after months now, I finally, after seeing the new 15 gb free with One Drive, thought I would try to open an account to get 15 free gb. I didn't realize I could open more than one microsoft account, but yeah, a new account opened with the free 15 gb on One Drive.
Okay, so I got this new account, and I could then sign in with a Microsoft account using this new account, which also made my original Microsoft account available, but the problem starts with my original local account. I can no longer sign in with my original local account (see attachment). To me, it is as if I have made a new microsoft account with a sub-account, which is my original Microsoft account. One is for Windows 8.1, (the new MS account), and my original MS account was for Windows 8, which no longer exists. Somewhere in the process of creating the new account, I was given the option to elevate it to Administrator and I did, it even shows as Administrator in the User Accounts "change your account type" where the "standard" and "administrator" are available, but this is not where I somehow elevated it. Now, it seems to be the boss, my original MS account seems to be secondary or an alias.
I closed the account, but it won't be official til October, since there is a 60 day recovery plan. Even with the account closed, folders and things, because I'm currently signed in with my original MS account, need to logged into with the new account info, which is what I mean by "the boss". I can't be doing that if I'm closing the account.
I did get an energy report, but the .html file wouldn't open (see attachment).
I learned One Drive is different with Windows 8 or is it just 8.1, haven't got into it to much, right now.
How can I get my local account back, keep my original MS account, and still be able to sign in, get an energy report, and use One Drive sync?
Using Windows 8 Enterprise 64 bit, I have noticed that the full name of a local account (set with the net users "<username>" /fullname:"<full name>" command) is deleted whenever I switch from a Microsoft account to the local account associated with it. So, how do I have to prevent this?

I have a user with a machine that was setup with Win 8.1 Home. The machine has been upgraded to 8.1 Pro and joined to a domain (WinSrv 2003). I need to get the content/configuration from their old local machine user profile to their new domain user profile.
I tried to copy the contents of their ../users/<name>/.. folder from the local user profile to the new domain user profile (after they had logged in once, and then logged off). This did not work. When I did the copy, I grabbed all files, including hidden...was that my mistake, or is the issue broader?
In the end....they want their old stuff and configuration under their new credentials/profile.
I began setting up my new computer with two accounts---local and Microsoft. Now I see it's a hassle and I'd like to get rid of the local one, but I can't find a way to do it.

I tried downloading OPHCrack, I burned it as an ISO file and put it on a DVD-R(only thing I had on hand) and i changed the boot order on her BIOS menu to had the DVD drive as the first priority. It does not run....I hear the disk drive moving, or spinning but the program does not run. Are there any other options or do I have to do a complete system restore to bypass this? Also if that is what I have to do how do I do that without being in her control panel?
Currently, my local account name is displayed on one line in the start scren. I'm looking for a way to display the local account name across two lines, like what is done if I were signed in with a Microsoft account. That is, the first name in a larger font and the surname in a smaller font on the next line.

Now I want to return to my local <username> account and not be prompted to log-in at boot up.
How can that be accomplished? It's set for NO password.
I accidentally changed my admin account into local account now i can't install apps and do anything with it. Whenever I try to install some apps it always say.. type an administrators password but then I don't know how to. All I remember was that before i change my account into standard account.

I made a local account on one computer, but if I want to access Skydrive, it changes that account, back to the main account.
Is there a way to access the same Skydrive account through the app without making them the same user account?
Or is there a way to unsync different computers?
I have come across a problem with Windows 8.1 and local user accounts all of a sudden.
When I logon using a local username and password I keep being told that my password is incorrect.
The password IS correct. The account does exist. The account is NOT disabled.
I can login with a Microsoft Online Account fine. But I don't want to (and shouldn't have to) use this option. I have also tried converting the Online account to a Local account but once I do this and log off I am told again that my password is incorrect, which it isn't.
The local administrator account can login fine.
I was successful to create another user account than mine, hotmail based too.
Then I disactivated Skydrive in the registry according to the following. How to Get Rid of SkyDrive in Windows 8.1 Explorer. It does the same as this tutorial but set the value at 0 rather than f090004d.
I did set it back to f090004d.
I can no longer create a new account, hotmail or local. It goes through all the first process, the final screen is 'Let's start' but end with a blue screen and hangs forever.
When I follow the onscreen directions to do this I get to the last step and get this, something went wrong, your account wasn't changed to this Microsoft account.
Code : 0xd0000225

It appears that with Windows 8.1 RTM Microsoft wants you to concatenate all your account credentials under Windows into a Microsoft account, and that there's no way to access any of the Store or Microsoft Modern account driven software without doing so...
Is it possible to access the Store, and other Windows 8.1 account authorized features in the same manner as Windows 8 where you could have a local account and just login to these other services separately?
I have Windows 8 installed on a local account and wish to sign in from my Microsoft Account but only as & when required not all of the time. Shawn's tutorial "How to Sign in with a Different Microsoft Account to the Store in Windows 8" covers the procedure which should apply.
Attempting this offers only the "Sign In" button however once clicked the spinning circle appears for a fleeting second before the pointer is returned to the button once more, further attempts loopback in the same manner.
I can only surmise that this is happening because I have undertaken a customised install using Kari's excellent tutorial "How to Relocate User Profiles to another Partition or Disk in Windows 8" where the User Profile concerned is "D:User" and not "C:UsersUser" this being my longstanding preference from previous Windows installs from XP to 7.
I have tried the mklink /j route to link both C:UsersUser and D:UsersUser with D:User but with no success.
Is there a registry key containing the profile path which is used by the store sign in which requires modifying to my customised path of D:User?? .....or is something else amiss??
I bought a shiny new laptop yesterday with windows 8 pre-installed. After setting a few things up, i restarted the computer for the first time. At this time the computer downloaded many updates. On start up since my user account has been downgraded to a guest account. This is the only account on the computer, as such i do not have administrator rights and i am unable to log in as an administrator.
May I have to restore the computer back to factory settings but how to do this without being the administrator.
I am a system administrator in a large enterprise environment and we are doing a rollout of Windows 8.1. In our image capture we somehow captured a setting that is disabling users from setting up a connected account with their domain account. I am relatively sure that it is in my unattend and I can fix it for machines going forward but I really don't want to have to reimage the machines I've already deployed.
When I go to connect an account, the "connect to a Microsoft account" option is grayed out and the "some settings are managed by your administrator" message is displayed at the top. This is NOT a group policy object that is applying. The machines are in a test OU and there is absolutely no policy applied. I have searched all through local policy and even did a search through the registry for "account" (that took forever) but have been unable to find any registry key or local policy that would be causing this issue.
What setting might be causing this? I have 30+ machines already out in the environment and the user experience is going to be terrible if I have to reimage them all.
I have a Dell Venue tablet running Windows 8.1 Pro (32-Bit) and have been having a bit of an issue getting PIN login to work since refreshing the tablet recently. I can access the settings and set a PIN for login, but when I unlock the screen it only allows a password to be put in.

How can I connect my hotmail account to my Windows account? I have connected that mail to my account on previous installation. My OS is Windows 8 Enterprise x64.
View 4 Replies View RelatedTwo days ago I received quite a strong new Win 8.1 computer (with SATA drive). I have opted for a LOCAL user only without a password.
The boot process was extremely fast: the computer turns-on to the blue log-in screen in few seconds; and then pressing Enter the signing-in process was almost immediate.
Then, a bad thing happened: I was lured by Microsoft to sign-in with a Microsoft account. Then, signing-in to my computer with this MS account (and password) took ages; I mean, something like a full one minute the computer was trying to sign-in until eventually succeeding.
Understanding my mistake (why would I want an MS account?) I decided to disconnect from my Microsoft account, and return back to my nice local user.
But now, the long waiting time to signing-in (even without a password, and with an automatic log-in) still remains: I wait like 25 sec when the blue screen and the white dot circulate repeatedly until my account is signed-in.
I have created an administrator account with a setup (apps & settings) that I would like to use as the default for all local standard users

They created a new user account, then copied all my files to it. But I ended up with i administrator account that could not be deleted. That worked but my files are broken up between 3 other user accounts. I spoke with Microsoft to try and consolidate the accounts and they used a command line in cmd, run as an administrator, but it did not finish, or I may have cut it off by accident.
I am still working with the system but it has problems. I have reloaded the software 3 times so for. How to correct the problem without reloading all the software again? Also after setting up sharepoint in Office Pro Plus, it created another administrator account in UAC. I did not think this was going to happen? Right now in the UAC I have two administrator accounts with the sane name, In c:users there 5 with the temp file they created. What that command line they attempted to use was to correct and consolidate the user accounts.
How to correct the problem without reloading all the software again.
The Windows 8 starts it seems that i loose the permissions to the temp folder. As a result some applications using that folder to launch (for example Google drive) fail giving me an error. Another example are some installation files not starting because the temp folder cannot be used.
So, i have always to go to temp folder and manually set the permissions to have all working.
I've just installed a new HP laptop for my sister, who's upgraded from an old XP desktop. In doing the install, I have inadvertently created two user accounts (I'm new to Win 8), both with passwords. She doesn't want this, as it's a computer for all the family to use. How do I remove the accounts, or, at least remove the need to enter a password every time she boots up?
