Lenovo G580 Laptop Won't Start Up - Stuck On Boot Menu
Sep 17, 2014
My Lenovo G580 laptop won't start up. When I turn it on using the power button it goes straight to boot menu/app menu. There are various options there to choose from, but whichever one I choose, it keeps going back to boot menu. I've tried using the novo button, but it still doesn't work. Whatever I choose from the novo button screen, except "BIOS setup", keeps taking me back to the boot menu. My laptop won't start up.

I was having problems getting to the boot menu of my Lenovo G580 laptop earlier.
I figured out how to get the boot menu - But my only options are hard drive, LAN v4 and LAN v6 boot - Nothing about a disc. So I went into the BIOS boot priority menu and set disk to #1 - It still booted to my hard drive!

I brought my Toshiba laptop over to a friends house last night. We did some gaming, and everything was fine and acting normal. This morning, I packed up and when I got home, started up my laptop. A black screen with a window popped up with boot menu and app menu on it. Under the Boot Menu, there is Windows Boot Manager, and SATA:: TSSTcorp CDDVDW SU-B08AB. Under App Menu, There is Setup. The only thing I can enter is Setup, and there is a lot of things I don't understand.

I have this problem where it takes approximately 5 minutes to boot up my Lenovo Y500 (Windows 8, 64-bit) laptop. I had this laptop for almost an year. It was fine in the beginning, took around 20 seconds to boot. However, over time when I restart my computer because of the windows update or defraging, I noticed that it took extremely long to boot, like 5 minutes. It would be stuck on the Lenovo logo with the spinning circle for 5 minutes.
After that there is no problem getting to my desktop. I assumed my HDD (1 terabyte) had a problem. I ran all different programs to diagnose the HDD but it all said it was in "OK" status. So, I did the chkdsk on the CMD and it prompted me that it'll start when I restart my laptop. So I did and now it's stuck on scanning and repairing drive (C: 27% complete for almost 12 hours.
I am not sure how long I have to wait and if it's going to be 27% forever. I have approximately 250 GB / 1 TB on my HDD. I tried doing recovery but it would not work either. If I tried booting through safe mode, it would continue to do the same thing, Scanning and repairing drive (C 27% complete and stuck there. So finally, I tried going for the recovery USB boot drive since I cannot use the recovery built-in the laptop nor have the recovery disc.
However, I was looking in Google how to make a recovery USB for windows 8 (64-bit) but it all looked like you have to be in Windows 8 in order to make a recovery USB drive, but I am stuck on the Lenovo logo screen. Is there an alternative solution to this? Is there a downloadable recovery drive so I can make it boot to the USB?

A few days ago my laptop started logging me into a temporary profile, when I log on 2 mine it says preparing windows for a while and then I actually log in and all my setting have been changed and also my files deleted. It says "You can't access your files, and files created in this profile will be deleted when you sign out..and my files have been deleted all of them it shows on the windows 8_OS(C space meter thing. I've tried rebooting and everything but nothing. My admin user account has also been deleted. I've literally tried everything on the internet like even going to the System 32 to select SAM file but it always says the SAM file is in use. My whole life and memories are all on my laptop I have a lenovo G580.

I have a Lenovo G580 with Windows 8. I have a weird problem with audio. If the default audio is set as internal speakers and I plug in my headphones the sound just keeps coming from the internal speakers. But if I set the headphones as default, I can switch between the speakers and headphones as I want and there is no problem if only I play music from my computer.
If I try to play something from my browser, however, the sound only comes from the internal speakers and connecting the headphones does nothing. Except (and this is where it gets weird) if I play something from my computer first using the headphones. Then I can play anything from the browser and hear it through the headphones as long as I don't plug them out. If I plug them out, the sound switches back to the internal speakers and trying to plug in the headphones again doesn't do anything. So I have to play something from my computer again with the headphones plugged in and then switch to my browser to again play everything through my headphones.

I have high usage on my laptop lenovo g580 using windows 8. check task manager and I see cpu memory and disk fluctuating up and down to 3% can go up to 100 at times. When I open google chrome. Watch video or play games. I hear my fan turn on and i think my hard drive and i check task manager and i see the problem happening. I did a virus scan and searched everywhere online. I couldn't seem to find a solution. When I am not using the pc its a stable 3 percent but my memory is at 37 which i barely have anything installed but 1 game and a google chrome.

I have a Lenovo laptop that came with Windows 8 pre-installed. I decided I want to dual boot with XUbuntu.
I shrank my partition and left space for the linux distro. I installed xubuntu into the free space, and even set the bootloader installation to be in that partition as well.
Then after installation, I only get the GRUB bootloader. How to get Windows 8 back and I finally be able to boot into either OS.
However, I have lost the blue UEFI boot manager that Windows 8 should display.
So I get EasyBCD on Windows, try lots of options to regain an original boot manager. But instead of the typical blue UEFI screen, it created a black screen with my boot options (and the linux option doesn't boot from there).
So to summarise, my boot sequence is like this:
-Switch on laptop
-See GRUB, with default pointing to Windows. I am able to boot to linux from here.
-Click Windows and then see Windows Boot Manager (black) with Windows and Linux
-Click Windows and it boots. Click linux and get an error.
I have secure boot enabled, and I installed xubuntu in secure boot mode.

Computer was running slow so I did a reset of windows. It worked but the problem still existed. My computer froze so I turned my laptop off and back on only to find it stuck in that automatic repair loop. I tried system restore, no luck. I made that bootable usb for repairing and that didn't work either. Straight repair won't work either. I have tried every option and am completely lost as to how to proceed. I need the files off the hard drive but don't have a way to connect it to anything to be able to access the files.

My wife has a new Asus X750j Laptop.
I've spent the last day and a half setting it up.Now I want to make a system image of the C: drive using Paragon.
I do this from a bootable DVD, but it isn't set to boot to the DVD first in the boot order.
I've tried tapping the F11, F8, Del, Esc and F2 keys and it just boots into Windows 8.
My computer which has an ASUS motherboard, shows a message when I boot, saying select "Delete" to boot into the UEFI Bios.
But I can't seem to get either a boot menu of the bios option on the laptop.

I've recently purchased a new laptop with Windows 8.1 pre-installed. First question is how do i enable a confirm window to pop up when deleting something? I don't like how i can just hit delete and it moves it (Only to the recycle bin, but i'd rather it didn't).
Secondly how do i stop the start menu from switching to that Windows 8 menu view? I did originally change it so that when you click the start menu (Bottom left in) it would actually bring up the start menu, but it seems to have reverted. On top of this how do i change it so that pressing the Windows button brings up the start menu rather than the Windows 8 menu view thing?
Thirdly how do i enable file details when in Windows Explorer. So in Windows 7 when you select a file it would give the size, name, author, date last edited etc in the details pane. How do i get that now?
Finally, how do i change my task bars transparency?

When you launch skype from the startmenu it is a huge square, when i launch task manager from the startmenu it is launched to the desktop.
Could there be a way to make the task menu launch from the startmenu to be a big square like skype is "phone eddition"
This would be useful because when im in games and the game freezes, i can bring up the start menu like SUPER FAST and it is visible but when i launch the task manager it is behind the game no matter what, so im always pressing the key stroke of the first letter of the game and pressing delete to see if i closed the game or not.

I actually have no problem with the Win 8.1 Start menu, but the colors of the regular desktop environment are killing me. Namely, the weird, off-off white of the menus. The High-Contrast White option under Personalization gives me the right color for the menu backgrounds but everything else about the theme screams windows 3.1, so I'd rather not resort to using that.
Is there maybe a registry tweak that I can use to change this one little color? I've tried a few things but nothing so far has worked.
See attached pic to see what I'm talking about.

I posted this thread but no one replied then back yesterday I ran it into Safe Mode and used the CMD and put these "sfc/scannow" then the PC booted into Safe Mode.
But in my Start Menu many apps won't open accept Facebook, Twitter, Photos and the Store opens, and when I goto install apps it shows "This app wasn't installed"
And my Start menu is like this:
And the "sfc/scannow" command shows that there are Corrupted or Missing Files Then I also did these:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /ScanhealthDISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth But then also no luck .what to do I updated my PC from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 4 days before And this happened 3 days before And the PC started to boot from yesterday.

So just few days ago i was playing with my laptop and it got really slow, I though it might be programs I've had opened or something but I just noticed something
My fan doesn't seem to work when my CPU needs it, i used core-temp and the temperatures are at something like 80C and it feels much hotter than usual, however when i use the battery management to clear out the dust, the fan seems to work
I tried to install tpfancontrol but it gave me a winio.sys error, after some googling, it seems this is the program that allows communication between the hardware and the system.
Im running on windows 8 on a lenovo laptop g500, and it seems my fan works, but can't communicate with my system when it needs it?

I bought a new laptop Lenovo Z510 with 16GB of RAM already and it seems that I am dealing with tons of problems. I got it back to warranty they changed the RAM and the situation seems to have improved significantly.
But even with that I still have faced several BSODs and a lot of problems in the event viewer plus to random crashes for some some apps like firefox.
I attached the files hoping that we get this one sorted.

I just purchased a Lenovo Laptop recently (specifically lenovo Z50-70). From the second day since I switched on the laptop, I began to get an error as follows:
"Your computer ran into an error and needs to restart. We are collecting some info, and then we'll restart for you"
I have done only 2 major changes to the laptop. Firstly, I updated windows 8.1. Secondly, I moved some space from local disk C to D. Why is this error caused.
1. Is the error caused due to windows 8 (or) some driver files?
2. Is it because of some deleted windows files? (Although I have not deleted anything!!)
3. Can a simple re-installation of windows 8.1 solve this issue?
4. Is it because of some hardware issue?

I have a Lenovo laptop running Windows 8.1. I run a number of VB6 programs. One is an estimating system that makes use of .dat files. When I first install the program and the files, everything works fine.
The problem comes when I 'over-write' a .dat file with a newer version, with some basic cost changes (the file updated on a different computer which contains VB6). As I 'paste' from a USB stick it asks if I want to over-write, which I obviously agree to.
However, as I run the program, I still appear to be using data from the previous file! The latest update figures are ignored.
To check this out further, I have even deleted (removed completely) the .dat file from the appropriate directory, but when running the program it still inputs data from the original file.
This leads me to believe there must be another copy of the file open somewhere (hence the phantom!), possibly as a 'last used' reference.
I have been on to the taskbar and ensured I have unchecked the two boxes about retaining files etc.
