Toshiba Laptop Stuck At Boot / App Menu?
Feb 15, 2014I brought my Toshiba laptop over to a friends house last night. We did some gaming, and everything was fine and acting normal. This morning, I packed up and when I got home, started up my laptop. A black screen with a window popped up with boot menu and app menu on it. Under the Boot Menu, there is Windows Boot Manager, and SATA:: TSSTcorp CDDVDW SU-B08AB. Under App Menu, There is Setup. The only thing I can enter is Setup, and there is a lot of things I don't understand.

Sep 17, 2014My Lenovo G580 laptop won't start up. When I turn it on using the power button it goes straight to boot menu/app menu. There are various options there to choose from, but whichever one I choose, it keeps going back to boot menu. I've tried using the novo button, but it still doesn't work. Whatever I choose from the novo button screen, except "BIOS setup", keeps taking me back to the boot menu. My laptop won't start up.

Cannot Boot Toshiba Laptop Windows 8.1 / Created Duplicate EFI Partition
Dec 25, 2013I can not boot my Toshiba laptop Windows 8.1 computer after I was attempting to resize partitions. I got in over my head. Now I'm stuck and cannot boot.
I believe the problem is I somehow created a second copy of my EFI partition. Now I have two "system" partitions of the same size.
Cannot boot, but got a command prompt. Ran "bcdedit" and got:
"The boot configuration data store could not be opened.The requested system device cannot be identified due to multiple indistinguishable devices potentially matching the identification criteria."
Other things I uncovered:
Diskpart> list partition
Partition 1 System
Partition 2 System
Partition 3 Reserved
Partition 4 Primary
Partition 5 Recovery
Partition 6 Recovery
(note both partitons 1 & 2 say "System" for type.)
Diskpart> Select Partition 1detail partition * Volume 2 System NTFS Partition 352 MB Healthy Hidden
Diskpart> Select Partition 2detail partition * Volume 3 FAT32 Partition 352 MB Healthy Hidden
I conclude that Partition 1 equates to Volume 2, Partition 2 to Volume 3. However there is no longer a "System" label on Part 2/Vol 3 once drilled down to details. Also its FAT32.
I am hoping/praying that I could "delete" one of the duplicate partitions. But scared to make any such move. Not sure where to go from here.
Toshiba Satellite Laptop - Can't Change BIOS / Boot Priority
Aug 22, 2014I have just bought a Toshiba Satellite laptop. Before installing everything I wanted to partition the hard drive, for various reasons. To do so, I installed EASUS Pro. (Have used that many, many times on my W7 PC without a problem.) Anyway, it went away to resize the boot partition and now I can't do a !@#%$ing thing. The laptop boots to a 0xc0000225 error screen, and that's it. I entered the UEFI Firmware Settings, and managed to firstly change the fn keys to standard (YAY!) but I CANNOT use the F10 key to save the boot priority to CD/DVD or anything else, so I have nowhere to go from there.

This computer also has the 64 bit edition of Windows 8 installed on it. Windows 8 is driving me up the wall!!! I have had numerous problems with it since day 1.
As recently as a few days ago, my system was running reasonably okay. Then I downloaded a driver for my network card from the dell.com website. From that point on, I cannot get my computer to boot up properly. I have turned my computer off and on multiple times in hopes that it would correct whatever is wrong.
When I first turn my PC on, it will stay stuck at the Dell logo window for a while.
Sometimes it will make it past that and it will give me an error message that says:
"error sending end of post message to ME, system HALT!"
Also, I sometimes get a message which says:
"the last USB device you connected to the computer malfunctioned, and Windows did not recognize it.
Try reconnecting the device. If windows still does not recognize it, your device may not be working properly."
This is insanity. I have NOT connected any new USB devices to my computer.
I do not know what to do. I figured that the easiest thing might be to try simply reinstalling Windows 8 from scratch. So I inserted my Windows 8 reinstall disk that Dell sent me when I bought this thing. However, my computer will not boot from this disk. So I guess I am stuck.

Think i deleted the default one, have nothing under boot options. Once I started the machine it goes right to the bios
the boot devise driver into windows i think is missing.

Well, yesterday night, everything was going good until I tried to download League Of Legends on my laptop. I was multi-tasking on facebook, youtube, and a whole other stuff while my laptop was downloading League Of Legends, and then the whole laptop frooze and then I panicked and pressed the power button a couple times. When the laptop booted back up, it was all black and nothing happened.
I was searching online and pressed the F11 button to try and restore the laptop and it did work and I also got into windows 8. It was lagging and very slow when I booted into windows 8, and so I just decided to shutdown the laptop and try to refresh and reset the laptop from boot.
However the automatic recovery didn't work and couldn't repair the laptop. When I was refreshing and reseting the laptop, it wouldn't finish all the way, because it would stop at like 60% and then just stop and freeze. Now, I think I messed up a bit and now I can't boot into Windows 8 or even RESET,RESTORE,or REFRESH. Also I just dod a diagnostic check on UEFI, and my Hard Disk Short DST has failed, so I think that I need to replace my hard disk.

Windows 8 Boot Menu Would Not Load
Oct 5, 2013My pc shut off today all of a sudden, it was running normally, and next time power on windows would not start up normally. the power turn on as normal, windows 8 blue logo show up with circle running for 3 seconds, then screen would show a sign losing signal from monitor, then screen would turn dark, nothing going on, power still on, no beep, no sound or anything.
I am running windows 8 retail with license bought from Microsoft on ssd, and windows 8.1 enterprise rtm on a separate drive. Normally there are 2 items on blue boot menu.
I managed to log into safe mode, everything is still there, icons and files, installed software. I checked boot record and there are still same as before.

Jul 22, 2013I upgraded my Dell XPS10 from Windows RT 8 to Windows RT 8.1 Preview.
It has 2 serious issues:
1) Windows RT is not activated.
2) Device gets stuck at boot logo.
Now I'm trying to use a USB recovery drive to roll my XPS10 back to Windows RT 8. Unfortunately I failed to use the recovery files from Microsoft Surface RT, XPS10 could not boot with those files.

After hiberanation or shutting down a computer I'm stuck on boot screen when I turn it on (there's a win logo and circle stops spinning) and I need than to turn off computer by pressing the turn off button. After the restart there is no problem! And after I forcely shut it down, there is no problem also!
I tried clean install (fresh windows 8.1 with formatted hard disk), refresh your pc, startup repair - nothing works.
While I was on windwos 8, I didn't have any problems!

May 18, 2014my OS is Windows 8.1 64-bit. It boots just fine, but I suddenly found out that something wrong happened with my BCD store. Tried more workarounds but none worked. The last I found How To Restore Windows 8 Boot Options Menu ended on bcdedit error mentioned below. The problem indicates with following signs:
- bcdedit /enum prints error "The boot configuration data store could not be opened."
- bcdboot C:windows prints error "BFSVC Error: BcdOpenSystemStore failed with unexpected error code, Status
= [c000015c]"
- msconfig's boot tab shows empty OSes list (nothing on the tab is clickablle)
- the same with System Properties, Advanced tab, Startup and Restore dialog (OS dropdown has no entries)
- Trying to enter diagnostic boot by Shft + Restart doesnot seem to offer full recovery menu. It boots to GUI boot menu offering Continue or Troubleshooting, Troubleshooting submenu offers Manage UEFI options (this brings me to BIOS setup after reboot) and Shut down. No manage boot options, no other choices.
All of this point me to that my booting configuration is somehow ill (I wonder a bit that Windows still can start).
Can't Boot - Stuck At Preparing Automatic Repair
Aug 22, 2013It is a Toshiba satellite L675 and the stickers indicate it is a windows 7 model. However, when I open the machine and turn it on, I am welcomed by the windows eight logo. Past this, I get an endless wait time. It alternates from no message to preparing automatic repairs from boot to boot. I have tried to go into its preperscibed setup mode (f2 at startup) and the boot menu (f12 at startup) neither of these have taken me to a bios or any other interface. I have tried ctrl+f8 and have gotten no success. I have also tried every function key and ctrl plus every function key individually.

I restarted the comp and this auto repair screen popped up and it freezes and just same thing over and over. the bottom of the screen is cut off and the only other window i can get into is the bios setup utility window. Computer was running slow so I did a reset of windows. It worked but the problem still existed. My computer froze so I turned my laptop off and back on only to find it stuck in that automatic repair loop. I tried system restore, no luck. I made that bootable usb for repairing and that didn't work either. Straight repair won't work either. I have tried every option and am completely lost as to how to proceed. I need the files off the hard drive but don't have a way to connect it to anything to be able to access the files.

Searches have said it could be accessed by pressing Esc or F10 at the Gateway boot screen, but I've been unable to make that happen. Aug 26, 2012When dual/multi booting with previous versions of Windows, you have your basic black screen w/white text and when choosing your OS to boot to, you have to use the up/down arrows and hit enter.
With the visually nice boot menu screen of Windows 8, you can actually use your mouse to choose your OS, just click the OS you want. Saves a few seconds by not using the keyboard.
Adding Entries In Boot Menu
Jan 30, 2013I made two install of win 8 : one is enterprise , the second is pro with the free mc key and one of kubuntu that are well working . i used a drive with every os , with the others not connected to prevent errors and be more easy to select the one i want to boot .
By now I would like to clean my efi boot partitions because after testing ubuntu and removing it for kubuntu , I have two entry for them while one is no longer valid . I also would like to select between the two win8 without having to get in the bios . One thing that is weird with ebcd, it does not see my two windows 8, may be because they use the same loader name or file .
At last, how to turn win8 vga menu selector to the text one used by win7 . i ll be glad .

After Upgrade Unable To Access BIOS Or Boot Menu?
Nov 13, 2012My Acer Extensa 5620Z originally came with Vista, then I clean installed Win 7, now upgraded to Win 8. Since the latest upgrade, I am unable to access BIOS or the boot menu. The black and white boot screen used to say to press F12 for boot menu, and something else for Setup, those messages are no longer there. And those key combinations do not work. I've also tried some other combinations I've found in searches - F2, Alt-F10, ctrl F10, alt ctrl F10, F8, del, esc. None work.
Could the upgrade has modified the firmware somehow? Boot screen says Phoenix bios, TrustedCore v1.32 - I think that is the same it has been.
Can't Access UEFI BIOS And BOOT Menu On Lenovo Z580
Dec 14, 2013Ok so i have 2 months lenovo ideapad z580 laptop..i am unable to access UEFI BIOS menu and boot menu anymore these were the steps i tried with my laptop.
1) I have windows 8.1 tried going to pc settings and selected uefi settings on restart But the problem still persist the laptop is just doing normal windows 8 boot
2) Tried pressing/hitting F1,F2,F12,DEL keys
3) I have also used lenovo one key recovery button there it showed "bios setup" when i selected it and hit enter it is just doing normal windows 8 boot still i can't access uefi bios
4) Tried updating BIOS for the laptop but unfortunately there was no bios update for this model
5) Tried resetting Laptop by removing battery and ac adapter and pressing and holding power button for 30 seconds but still no use i can't access BIOS yet
6) I tried removing the internal hard drive Out of the laptop and this time one starnage thing happened " before with internal hard drive i used to get lenovo splash screen when turning ON but after removing hard drive and when i try to access bios i can't see the lenovo splash screen at all" still i can't access BIOS!!!
7) I even have tried holding down Shift key, letter B when starting up the laptop but still didn't work seems like windows 8.1 makes changes to BIOS?
