I have a brand new inspiron 5447, which was working fine till yesterday. If I try to boot now, it is just stuck at Dell logo and I am unable to go into BIOS settings. I tried pressing F2 and F12, but the screen is still stuck at same Dell logo screen.
View 2 RepliesI upgraded my Dell XPS10 from Windows RT 8 to Windows RT 8.1 Preview.
It has 2 serious issues:
1) Windows RT is not activated.
2) Device gets stuck at boot logo.
Now I'm trying to use a USB recovery drive to roll my XPS10 back to Windows RT 8. Unfortunately I failed to use the recovery files from Microsoft Surface RT, XPS10 could not boot with those files.
I bought dell inspiron 7520 and tried creating the additional partition on the hard drive. After rebooting the laptop started showing blue screen and saying that the file Windowssystem32winload.efi doesn't exist or is corrupt. Error code: 0xc0000225
Since the laptop was sold just with the installed windows but without the CD with windows8, I'm not able to reinstall it.
Brand new Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook with Windows 8. 256 SSD, 8 gigs of memory, i5-3317, non touch screen. Working fine for 2 months and now will not boot after Dell logo. Have been on tech support three times still not solved. They sent a USB recovery drive and does not boot. They sent an optical drive and the windows recovery disc; still not working! Not a novice at this but fully stumped. Cannot get to a C prompt, cannot get into Safe mode. Am able to get into BIOS but is limited in what can be done there. Diagnostics says everything is fine. Am ready to go back to Windows 7 until they work the bugs out.

So I downloaded Windows 8.1 ISO and make it bootable with Yumi Installer. But I cannot get default manufacturer logo on boot anymore. It's default to Windows logo. How to install it to get manufacturer logo back.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen booting, my windows 8.1 is slow to do load. After windows logo, it goes to a black screen for around 10 secs, then it finally logs into the Start menu. I know this is not normal because I have seen the system boot faster in the past, but I don't know why its doing it now.
I have done a fresh install of windows 8 and update to 8.1. I made to to have Fast Boot enabled.
I have haswell, so I made to update to the latest graphics drivers by Intel.
On a second note: I am triple booting: osx/linux/win with Chamelon boot loader. However, I doubt its an issue with triple boot because the black screen occurs AFTER windows logo, meaning windows has successfully loaded.
There's this bugcheck that forces me to refresh install my Windows 8 installation. Everything was normal until I restarted my system and it takes longer time to boot. The screen stays black after boot logo disappearing, until I saw a BSOD.
Attached below is last and the only dump file generated while BSOD occured. I need to know what's the real cause so I can prevent it in the futures (this is like my third time to refresh install in less than a year...)
Note that I generated this diagnostic after refresh install so it might be irrelevant to crash dump attached...
I have a new Dell Inspiron 15r as of this Christmas, running Windows 8. I ran the upgrade to 8.1 but I still have a problem with my cursor wanting to "hover click" on links or browser tabs, as well as being stuck in the down position, when I'm not even pressing on the touchpad left button. I end up selecting an entire region of stuff while moving the cursor across the screen.
I can't figure out what to change or configure in Control Panel, or is it in the Dell Touchpad configuration utility?
In Control Panel/Ease of Access Center/Make Your Mouse Easier To Use I have unchecked "Activate a Window by hovering over it with a mouse." Still happens.
Diagnostics says all is fine no problems found. I can boot to bios... cant boot to safe mode.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI was wanting to dual boot a Dell pc inspiron 600 with win 8. I thought I will breeze through it like I used to circa WXP/Vista/W7 and didn't research what changes there might be with Windows 8. I have focused my attention more on Android and I really should have done that research.
I hadn't backed up externally docs that I needed to save - so I will remove the drive and copy the contents to my laptop to be on the safer side. So the first wrong move has led to missteps.
I downloaded Easus and created a blank disk space before the current active partition instead of behind it. I thought I needed to have win 7 in the first partition. Before rebooting I also installed a popular freeware boot selection manager (I totally forget the name but I know some most will know the one I am referring to EDIT: ***EasyBCD*** ). It gave me a warning that no bootable system was selected. I kept editing to point it to current Windows 8 but nothing changed. It also warned me that my pc might not boot. I thought I will fix it to a bootable drive with my old discs-Ultimate boot cd, CPM, etc. Easus performed creation of the new partition and then trouble started. It refused to boot.
None of my discs are working as they did before Windows 8. on UBCD Fdisk cannot find any partition it can make active. I decided not to write an new MBR. My windows 7 install CD is giving me the "Windows cannot be installed to Disk 0 Partition X" details ->"The selected disk is of the GPT partition style."

My questions are: At this point I don't mind to have only windows 7 installed or if this situation is salvageable a dual boot then I don't have to remove the drive to copy the docs. I can just boot into 7 (which is what I mainly want to use) and just have access to Windows 8 partition from there to access my docs. I would prefer not to pull the drive out if I can avoid it but only if I know for sure what I am doing.
Second question : I believe partition 3: 489GB is the newly created one and Part 4 OS would be the Wind 8 partition. How can I know for sure that this is the wind 8 partition?
If I format the partition 3: 489GB will windows now allow for windows 7 to be installed?
Is there any way I can fix windows 8 partition to boot?
Lastly the basic question is how do I fix this error so that I Can install windows 7?
I don't have any pre-created OS discs of Windows 8. My current laptop is a toshiba win 7.
I own dell inspiron 14z and i tried to install windows 8 on the 32SSD drive, i turned SATA controller to AHCI and installed the OS. Windows was booted ones and it was all fine but when i restarted the computer it consistently led to the screen "your pc ran into problem and needs to restart...." I tried turning back to ISRT and same, I reinstalled windows and turn the acceleration of but after installing the driver an error was occurred says "your computer does t meat the minimum requirements....".
I turned back to ISRT and tried to install the windows again but it could not find the hard drive even after browsing through usb (it was loading and loading but didn't find anything) and now i really don't know what to do...

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo, I got a Inspiron 3537 i5. Nice laptop for it's price. Downloaded all the manuals, made my recovery DVDs. All was well in my world.
First thing I noticed is that there is no info in the manuals for tweaking the BIOS and since it is my first experience with a UEFI bios I was a bit disappointed. Is there a manual available for it?
Next I upgraded ATI Drivers to 13.12. I am an old user who always knew that updates were usually a good thing to do. Got in the same problem as many others with PC screen not waking up from sleep.
Thought I would do a recovery from the disk, but after trying various combinations (Ctl+F11, F8, F12 etc) I couldn't find a way to boot in the Recovery console. I did the recovery from my DVD and the laptop works fine.
How to add in UEFI bios a boot option to the Recovery partition? I undersstand that I have to create a new boot option using "Add boot option" and the two options available are to boot to the 1st (windows EFI) or 2nd (recovery partition), but the path for the recovery efi file to be loaded is unknown (+ you can't have access to the recovery partition to see the contents of it from windows).
On my friend's Dell Inspiron laptop, Windows 8 will not boot. I want to boot to the repair disk to restore an image I had created. F12 on boot does not show the DVD drive as an option. I went into Setup/Boot and disabled Secure Boot, still did not show the DVD as a boot option. I went back to Setup and selected Boot List Option>Legacy. Now it shows the DVD drive as an option to boot. I booted the repair dis, went through all the dialogs to select the image I had created, but when it goes to restore it it says it cannot because the image was made in UEFI, and it is now set for BIOS.
I went back into Setup/Boot and I see that the option Load Legacy Option ROM is now Enabled, it did it on its own. As a test I set it back to the defaults and re did it as above, and again it automatically changes Load Legacy Option ROM, which I assume is what is creating the problem.
So my question is what do I need to do to boot from the Windows Repair Disk?
I have a fairly new (bought in December) Dell Inspiron/Windows 8 that is used mainly by my kids to play games. It's minimally loaded- Windows Office, Adobe and generally starts up fast. Today they report to me that "something is wrong." On start up all I get is a grey screen. I tried F2 and F10 - no response. Doesn't even respond to Control/Alt/delete. I've searched the forums and the only thing that seems to come close is that they have possibly enlarged a split screen somehow so it's hiding everything else- but what to do? It has to get to Windows to do that, and we're not there yet.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 7720 Win 8 x64 PC which includes UEFI (described in Microsoft link below). However, UEFI is accessed on Win 8 from Settings Charm > "Change PC Settings". This requires that you have booted the system already. In case of a main disk crash, you need to boot from another drive, like a thumb drive.
During restart my Dell PC displays "F12 Boot Options" in lower right of screen during restart, but multiple presses of F12 during startup are ignored. Likewise when I try F1 or F2 during startup. So I have no way to specify an alternate boot drive.

I have a 2 month old Dell Inspiron 660 running Windows 8.1.that came with windows 8 installed but I upgraded to 8.1 off the internet. Everything worked okay until I did a scan and cleaning with ccleaner. Pretty soon startup was very slow going from the Dell screen to the lock screen to the password screen to the windows welcome screen but windows would eventually load. Now the startup only goes to the welcome screen. That little circle of dots starts spinning and keeps on spinning but Windows never loads. Did I erase some registry files when I cleaned it?
I also wanted to know how load Dos from win 8.1 and how to boot win 8.1 in safe mode.
My dell inspiron 15r 5521 when it shuts down it'd screen goes off but the lights stay on for about three minutes when the screen has gone off the only way to completely get the lights to go off is to hold down the power button for like ten seconds I know it's not good for it but sometimes when I'm in a hurry I have to this computer is like three weeks old so what's wrong with it also how do I keep wifi on when closing the lid is there a registry hack for that? And what is fast boot ....
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy (12-year-old) son's computer won't boot. It's a Dell Inspiron 17" running Windows 8, bought from Costco in July 2013. When I turn it on, Dell logo comes on and then in upper left it says "Checking Media [fail]", then "checking media" again, then "No Boot Device Found. Press any key to reboot the machine". I insert a USB recovery drive (it was made for my Toshiba that runs Windows 8.1, but it should work anyway, right?).
I choose US keyboard layout and it then opens into Recovery Environment. I choose Troubleshoot → Refresh Your PC. Message appears "The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again." I go to Troubleshoot → Startup Repair, which runs and then says "Startup Repair couldn't repair your PC." I then go back to Troubleshoot → Command Prompt and run chkdsk on Windows drive (c). It says "Windows has checked the file system and found no problems." Dell would probably tell me it's a hard drive failure and tell me to buy another one.
I only just very recently received this laptop as a gift, but as soon as I started watching movies on my Netflix account I noticed that the screen would briefly go black then return to my program. This happens very often, once every 2 to 5 minutes. And this only happens when I'm trying to watch movies. Browsing and game play is flawless. What could be the issue? It was recommended that I install Windows 8.1 upon setting up my laptop, so I did just that. I didn't play around with Windows 8 beforehand, though, so I don't know if the problem is the operating system or not.

After hiberanation or shutting down a computer I'm stuck on boot screen when I turn it on (there's a win logo and circle stops spinning) and I need than to turn off computer by pressing the turn off button. After the restart there is no problem! And after I forcely shut it down, there is no problem also!
I tried clean install (fresh windows 8.1 with formatted hard disk), refresh your pc, startup repair - nothing works.
While I was on windwos 8, I didn't have any problems!
I have a Dell Inspiron 1545, the screen is broke so I use an external monitor which doesn't project BIOS or Boot up so I cannot see anything. I found a thread on here that adds the Intel Graphics Driver for Mobile 4 Series for Windows 8 which I supposed would work on 8.1.
The link I installed:
Mobile Intel Series 4 and Intel HD Graphics 1st Generation. I installed it and restarted the laptop for the GUI to start.
But as I restarted, the screen was blank. I tried cycling through projection modes as I usually do, but this time It didn't work.
I have no clue of how to remove the driver to as I cannot see anything on the external monitor as I've tried it on 2.
I've tried booting into Safe Mode but as I've said, I cannot see anything on the screen so I'm not sure where I am.
The led display says 75 and stays there after doing a couple other ones
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell laptop Inspiron 15R 7537 that came with Windows 8. Yesterday I upgraded to Windows 8.1. Everything seemed to work fine after the upgrade. I shut down and re-booted several times with no issues. When I turned the computer on as usual today, I got the log in screen, then it briefly went to the desktop, then came a gray screen that blocks 99% of the desk top. This gray screen says "please wait" and has a cancel button at the bottom. It hangs forever and the cancel button doesn't work. It gives no other information.
I read several threads on the Microsoft Windows forum and this seems to be a common problem. How to boot using the Windows 8 recovery media disk that came with the Dell computer. I selected Troubleshoot, then Advanced Options, then Automatic Repair. I got a message that it couldn't do an automatic repair, so that didn't work. Next I tried System Restore, but I got a message that there were no restore points available from which to restore. Just to clarify - the Recovery Media Disk I have from Dell is for Windows 8 - not 8.1 - so maybe that's the problem.
The computer is totally worthless the way it is now, so unless there is some fix for the hanging gray screen in Windows 8.1, I would be happy just to reload the original Windows 8 Operating System. At least that worked.
Just received this for Christmas and turned it on. It will show the Alienware logo and F8/F12 prompts. After that the screen goes blank. Start it up again, goes thru logo screen and then a blue screen pops up saying that your pc couldn't start. It comes up with different options like safe modes and disabling options. Choosing any of these options just shuts down the pc. Its an X51 running or attempting to run windows 8.

I'm using Asus VivoBook S400C with Windows 8.
After i start the laptop, It goes black after the ASUS logo.
I've tried use shift+F8 to go into recovery. (sometime the shift+F8 might not work, it went black after ASUS logo)
Using troubleshoot's system restore. After minutes of waiting, system restore completed successfully and so i restart. But it went black again.
I tried automatic repair, but nothing good came out.
Tried startup setting to enable safe mode. but unfortunately, it went black after I click the restart button.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI received my laptop (Dell 17r SE) about a week ago but I have been having trouble with it's boot time. From pushing the power button, it takes anywhere between 5 and 10minutes to arrive at the login screen.
I checked the event log for Diagnostic-Performance, and the eventID100 has popped up quite a lot as "critical." I go into details and the stats are not looking to good. These are the times for multiple boots:
BootTime 175799/153962/217864/640216(This one was the first startup that the laptop ever did)
MainPathBootTime 122899/90262/135072/564816(This one was for the first startup that the laptop ever did)
Along with that critical error, I get other warnings saying apps/drivers/services like Svchost, rdbss, gpsvc, SMSSInit took longer than expected to initialise, thereby slowing startup.
I'm not sure if this is useful but apart from that, the log also shows EventID500/501 error events that state that The Desktop Window Manager responsiveness has degraded due to heavy resource contention.
