Lenovo G580 Audio Keeps Coming From Internal Speakers When Headphone Plugged In
Oct 30, 2013
I have a Lenovo G580 with Windows 8. I have a weird problem with audio. If the default audio is set as internal speakers and I plug in my headphones the sound just keeps coming from the internal speakers. But if I set the headphones as default, I can switch between the speakers and headphones as I want and there is no problem if only I play music from my computer.
If I try to play something from my browser, however, the sound only comes from the internal speakers and connecting the headphones does nothing. Except (and this is where it gets weird) if I play something from my computer first using the headphones. Then I can play anything from the browser and hear it through the headphones as long as I don't plug them out. If I plug them out, the sound switches back to the internal speakers and trying to plug in the headphones again doesn't do anything. So I have to play something from my computer again with the headphones plugged in and then switch to my browser to again play everything through my headphones.

I just bought a new pc and received it today, and i plugged my headset in to check if i hear audio from both speakers and headset but its not working. When i plug my headset in i only hear audio from my headset and not the speakers. Ive been googling and found something about it but with the newest realtek hd audio i dont have the Playback Device there, only the Recording Device. In this picture it has both the playback and recording device.

Just set up new asus essentio series desktop with windows 8.1. After initial set up the monitor speakers are on but no the connected external speakers. I assume I need to make some change in the control panel. Is that true. I want sound to come through external speakers.

However I am experiencing problems with the sound. It just doesn't appear to be working, despite the volume being turned up to the max. The problem usually fixes itself briefly after a restart but it then cuts out after time.
None of the playback devices are muted. When I try testing the speakers, I get an error message saying "Device in Use: Please close any applications using this device for playing audio" - however, there doesn't appear to be any device using the speakers.
I have recently started using an HDMI cable to use my laptop through my TV

I have a windows eight computer, and when I plug in my microphone (on my headset) my speakers are muted. I assume there is a simple sound option somewhere that does this, but I have been unable to find anything by looking around or searching google. The headset does not mute speakers on other computers when the microphones are plugged in, nor does it differ with other headsets.

I am using Windows 8.I am facing an issue with my sound all on a sudden. The volume icon on the task bar has a red cross on it. When I hover on that it says 'No speakers or headphones plugged in' (attachment-1).
When I click on the icon I get a screen like attachment-2 which says 'The peripheral does not appear to be plugged in'.
I checked in the Device Manager to see only 'Bluetooth Headset' listed under 'Sound, video and game controllers'. Also I tried to re-install audio drivers (Real Tech High Definition Audio Driver) which is provided with the laptop to no avail. I don't know whether this is just a driver/windows problem or a hardware problem.

I am running a Compaq CQ58 with windows 8.1
A week ago, i turned on my laptop and discovered that my sound wasnt working. I cheaked the sound menu, it told my that the speakers were not plugged in. I looked in the recording menu which told me my build in mic was not plugged in.
I was able to have sound by plugging my laptop into my tv with a HDMI lead.
I got fed up with a slow laptop and no sound so i decided to reset my laptop, when the reset was finished my mic and speakers worked. I turned it off and when i woke up i turned it back on to find my mic and speaker was "not plugged in". All my drivers are up to date and i have no updates to do.

A few days ago my laptop started logging me into a temporary profile, when I log on 2 mine it says preparing windows for a while and then I actually log in and all my setting have been changed and also my files deleted. It says "You can't access your files, and files created in this profile will be deleted when you sign out..and my files have been deleted all of them it shows on the windows 8_OS(C space meter thing. I've tried rebooting and everything but nothing. My admin user account has also been deleted. I've literally tried everything on the internet like even going to the System 32 to select SAM file but it always says the SAM file is in use. My whole life and memories are all on my laptop I have a lenovo G580.

My Lenovo G580 laptop won't start up. When I turn it on using the power button it goes straight to boot menu/app menu. There are various options there to choose from, but whichever one I choose, it keeps going back to boot menu. I've tried using the novo button, but it still doesn't work. Whatever I choose from the novo button screen, except "BIOS setup", keeps taking me back to the boot menu. My laptop won't start up.

I was having problems getting to the boot menu of my Lenovo G580 laptop earlier.
I figured out how to get the boot menu - But my only options are hard drive, LAN v4 and LAN v6 boot - Nothing about a disc. So I went into the BIOS boot priority menu and set disk to #1 - It still booted to my hard drive!

I have high usage on my laptop lenovo g580 using windows 8. check task manager and I see cpu memory and disk fluctuating up and down to 3% can go up to 100 at times. When I open google chrome. Watch video or play games. I hear my fan turn on and i think my hard drive and i check task manager and i see the problem happening. I did a virus scan and searched everywhere online. I couldn't seem to find a solution. When I am not using the pc its a stable 3 percent but my memory is at 37 which i barely have anything installed but 1 game and a google chrome.

For some reason my laptop's speakers, ever since i got the laptop, have not worked unless i plug in the charger, and turn it off/sleep/hibernate/close and open lid. there are no setting i am aware of that would affect this and i have power saving enabled but i have disabled and problem remains. I am not sure if this is a windows 8 issue or a software issue.

I got a Lenovo U410 and it comes with 750GB plus 24GB SSD. I think it is possible to install win 8 on the SSD drive?
Also, the main reason why I'm asking is:
1) I don't have a sticker on the back of my computer with a key, and I don't know what I'd do if software asked me for it
2) It doesn't have a CD/DVD drive. Would it be possible to boot windows from external HDD or I'd need a memory stick?

I have read a number of threads on this issue. My HP running windows 8.1 with IDT High Definition Audio CODEC consistently tells me that my headphones are unplugged in both the front and back audio ports of my desktop. I thought getting windows 8.1 on my new desktop would enable me to have audio. Apparently not so far.
I restarted the computer. I reinstalled the IDT drivers. I checked that they were up to date. I tried the troubleshooting method through windows that kept telling me that the headphones/speakers were unplugged. Okay, that's not true. The headphones work. Devise manager had no yellow exclamation marks.
So what's left to do? Buy windows 7 for $100 and reinstall it on this computer to so I can have sound and an operating system that's not infuriating?
I don't think this is due to some virus I managed to get in record time with minimal use of this computer. So what's next to do?

Is there any way of getting the system to switch to headphones when they're plugged in, and back to speakers when they're removed?

Recently upgraded my Dell Latitude E6420 to Windows 8.
When I attempt to use my Sony TV as a second monitor via HDMI cable, I no longer get audio. Cable is fine and worked previous to upgrade.
Video comes up fine. In "Playback Devices" (with both "Show Disabled" and "Show Disconnected" devices checked), Digital Audio is greyed out and unable to be selected as a default device - simply says "Not plugged in".
I've tried updating various drivers, but to no avail.

I recently upgraded from W7 to Windows 8, and now my HDMI audio is acting up.
I have only ever used my Samsung TV as a monitor. When switching from headset to tv audio I used to click the sound icon and select "set as default"
Now I CANNOT select "digital audio (HDMI)" from playback devices, as it is grayed out, and says "not plugged in"
Strangest part is that if I restart my computer, it works just fine, and then somewhere from 30 minutes to 2h it suddenly stops working. It doesn't seem to matter what I am doing, watching a movie on VLC, netflix, or even just working on a speadsheet.
Also noteworthy: girlfriend has exactly the same computer, same problem!
I've tried updating/(un)installing the latest drivers from AMD, and Realtek, as well as re-installing windows.
Windows 7 64 (upgraded to Windows 8 64)
AMD FX 8120 8 core processor
AMD Radeon HD 7670 2 GB
Aspire M3450
Samsung 46" LCD TV

My friend connected an external monitor to his Sony laptop using an HDMI cable. The problem is that there is no audio from the external monitor speakers. The sound still comes out of the laptop speakers. When I look in Playback Devices, I see what appears to be the speakers as a device (can't remember exactly what is was called, but it was a somewhat vague name like "audio device"), and I've tried various settings, yet I can't get sound from the speakers.
So my question is, does an HDMI connection on a monitor support audio, or does he need to get a audio cable and use the green audio jack that is on the monitor, which I thought was just needed with the VGA connector.

Latest version of Windows 8 This will take a while A few months ago Windows 8 quit producing sound through my speakers - overnight. I've tried a number of things I'll list here. Volume Control - red 'x' in bottom right corner. AMD HDMI OUTPUT and HEADPHONES are checked. Troubleshooting Speakers/headphones produces "doesn't appear to be plugged in' - they are. See next sentence. Potential issues that were checked. Check audio device issue not present one or more audio services isn't running issue not present audio device is disabled issue not present I can plug the speakers into a Vista PC and hear music so I know(?) the speakers and cable are plugged in and OK. Device Manager>Sound,Video and Game Controls>AMD High Definition Audio Device = device is working properly. Using most recent driver - Rollback is disabled. I have two sets of audio inputs on the back of my PC. Tried them both (have always used the top ones). Someone suggested checking my sound card - don't know how to do that. One last thing . . . I found an MS article telling me to disable/enable the AMD. Did that but as soon as I disabled it, it disappeared.

I use my laptop and i plug it via hdmi into a monitor when I am at home, but i unplug it to take it with me to class. Whenever I plug the monitor in it defaults audio settings to the monitor and not to the laptop speakers, even though the default setting is laptop speakers. I have to change the default every time. I have Intel audio drivers installed (6.16.0.3131). It didn't do this until I installed the Intel drivers.

I was in a skype call and I plugged in my 3.5m iphone headphones for the first time (using an asus notebook). I got audio but my friend could not hear me. I then plugged in regular 3.5mm headphones and it seemed to be fine.
On my other laptop (HP, Win7) I never had this problem. Is there any way to remedy this? I suspect it's because the iphone headphones have a built-in mic. All I want to do is have the audio running through the headphones and the mic working normally from the laptop.
