View 8 RepliesI have a new laptop which has Windows 8. I left it at work one day just screen locked and when I came back and entered my password, I saw that a wireless connection profile had been establihed under the name of "Iphone". I cleaned that profile but after that my laptop started to slow down very much. I reinstalled Windows 8 but the problem stays. Also the update database always crashes and I alwas have to fix it. I tried antivirus and antimalware software bout could not get a result. The machine is so slow on Internet and when I try to open a directory, it takes ages.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter updating to Windows 8.1, my PC is unable to restart with the following message displayed:
1) Preparing automatic repair
2) Diagnosing your PC
3) Your PC did not start correctly
Here I am given 2 options:
a) Restart
b) Advanced Options.
Option (a) will keep me in the same loop. I have tried most of the options in (b) but nothing works out. The only extra clue I got is when I go to Startup Settings and select option 9)" Disable automatic restart after failure" from which an additional message was displayed:
error: INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE
I did not make any backup beforehand and now I'm hoping to restore to my previous setting without losing any files/data. Or it would be even better I could solve the problem without any restoration.
I cannot access to the Windows start-up anymore, not even in Safe Mode.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've tried for several days after several reboots, etc. I am running a Dell OEM version of Windows 8 on an Optiplex. It just sits at "Downloading" and when I hover over it it says "0% complete". Apparently I can't use the ISO because I need a key which the OEM version does not have. how I can get this thing to update?
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen trying to update to 8.1 through the store, it tells me I need to uninstall the Dell Data Protection Access program first before continuing with the update. I've done that (I removed all parts: Access, Middleware, and Drivers), it's no longer showing up in my Installed programs list, yet when I try and continue the Windows 8.1 update, I get the same message.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell XPS 18 portable all-in-one machine that came with Windows 8, then I updated it to Windows 8.1 without any problems. It caught a nasty virus and I had to restore it to factory settings, which leaves me back at Windows 8.
I have tried multiple times to install the Windows 8.1 update through the Microsoft Store but keep getting Error Code 0xC1900101-0x40017. I have tried the following but get the same result;
Ran all of Windows Updates that would come up Verified that all drivers were up to date. My video driver is NOT a Nvidia but an Intel. I've seen posts stating that this driver needs to be updated in order to fix the problem. Ran Selective Start Up
Antivirus running is Avast!
I am attempting to repair a Dell Inspiron 5520 Laptop for a friend of mine.
He's been having issues updating it for sometime and when he called me he was having a "Windows update hasn't been able to check for new updates for 30 days" pop-up appearing every few seconds that was rendering the laptop almost unusable.
I managed to stop that by disabling automatic updates. When I attempted a manual update I got the message :
Windows could not search for new updates: Error Found Code 80070BC9
Other times it would say it needed to be restarted and would go into a restart loop that was generally
Restart one - no message
Restart two - configuring updates - 33%, 67%, 100%
Restart three - failed to configure updates - reverting - restarting
Then would go to the normal login screen
I tried SFC /Scannow which seemed to work and say a restart is needed to implement changes but then fails on restart
DISM didn't work when attempting to run it from the machine but got to 100% when I ran it from my own Windows 8 install disk but then failed and needed a restart to undo the changes.
I also tried a repair and a restore of the current Windows installation but got : Error Code: 80070490 both times
The laptop didn't come with an install disk or serial so it seems restoring it from external media may be out of the question?
I have an Inspiron 17R SE 7720 and yesterday evening I updated from windows 8 to windows 8.1. This went good. Only this morning I noticed my webcam don't work anymore. Before the update it worked fine. I use it daily to talk with my girl.
The only applicatie we use it for is facebook. When I use Dell Systeem Detect, and I let it check my webcam, it shows and it gives images. So I think it is not a problem of the hardware.
I also tried to download Dell Webcam Manager 2.0 but that says I dont have a special card in my laptop. Also when typed in my service tag in de website, I didn't get any new drivers / programs for the webcam.
After updating the BIOS to A09 Windows 8 won't boot anymore.
The BSOD reports an issue with winload.efi and error code 0XC0000001.
Each time I attempt to run Blue Stacks I receive and error msg to upgrade video drivers. I have updated from the Dell website, but continue to receive the error. Any success running BS on an XT2?

I'm having random freezes on my Windows 8.1 64bit computer.
I built a custom PC last year and everything is working well until it is around 6-10 months old. Random freezes started occuring. I tried doing reformat but the problem does not go away. Figuring that it may be the problem of Windows 7, I upgraded to windows 8.1 and also added a SSD to use it as a primary drive. 1 week into windows 8.1 and SSD the problem started occuring again, sometimes even when I'm just browsing the internet without viewing videos.
-windows 7+1TB HDD(OS), having a crash
-upgraded to windows 8.1+128GB SSD (OS)+1TB HDD(secondary drive), having a crash
I turned file paging off on my SSD and allocated 8GB of virtual memory to my secondary drive. When the crash happens, no BSOD occurs, my screen just freezes and I'm forced to do a hard reset. When there is sound playing while the crash happens, the sound will keep looping until I did a hard reset.
I have a problem that started yesterday. Every 30 seconds Windows Explorer (not the browser) crashes, then restarts. I run Xmarks within FireFox, I thought this was the problem because Xmarks as of yesterday asks me every 40 seconds if I want to sync my bookmarks, if I choose cancel, Windows Explorer will crash then restart.
When Firefox is closed, Explorer continues to crash and restart, almost every 30-35 seconds. I have Windows 8.1 up to date, with all the latest updates, FireFox is up to date. As of writting this post, Windows Explorer has crashed and restarted (5) times.
My Sony Vaio Tap 11 (model: SVT1121C5E) runs very unstable ever since I bought it about 3 months ago. Almost every day the system crashes, sometimes multiple times. Sometimes with prior bluescreen, Windows colleting data and then stopping at 100%.
Occasionally the device shuts down and automatically restarts.Sometimes the screen becomes black and the device can be turned off only by holding the power-button for a few seconds.
I'm running Windows 8.1 and all the current device-drivers, bios-update and Windows-updates are installed.

It enters the gamescreen and crashes out in few seconds. The setup menu gives direct3d .net framework exception. have also updated the dirctx runtime.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy Sony Vaio Multi-Flip has been causing a lot of pain recently. A couple of months ago, it was making a lot of noise (which apparently came from the fan) but the problem resolved itself and has rarely occurred in the last 2 months. The engineer said at the time, that it was most likely a fan noise (as opposed to the HDD).
However from the last few days, the laptop shuts down out of nowhere (without a blue screen). This happened 5-6 times consecutively the first time, after which I was somehow able to do a system restore to a couple of weeks earlier, to see if it might have been a software issue. That temporarily seemed to fix it, but a few days later the issue is back. It happens every now and then (say once or twice a day). The laptop just shuts down completely in a snap. What might be causing this? I have an important business trip coming up and the last thing I want is for this to happen when I am in a client meeting.
I notice my CPU temperatures are normally between the 55-70 degrees on average usage, so I wonder if replacing/cleaning the fan is the way to go?
Also, every now and then, I hear a "beeping noise" and I notice this is usually when I lift the laptop up or tilt it slightly, while it is still running. This is shown as a critical error in my event log, with error source "Kernel Power" and error description " The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."
DM Log collector results attached as SF Doesnt seem to be working for me on Windows 8.1. The greens status bar doesnt go past the "u" of "lunch" text above it despite waiting for ages.
i bought a new laptop (HP Envy m6-1140sg) some weeks ago. I have Nortin Internet Security installed.
I wanted to try out that NIS Trial Reset because HP Laptops have NIS already installed. I rebooted my Laptop into safe mode with Network and then started it. I accidentally chose to Purge my NIS. I didn't know what purge means. . I opened the Trial Reset app again and chose to revert my trial to 60 days. Then it disappeared. I rebooted my laptop in Normal Mode and then tried to open NIS. But it didnt come up. I uninstalled NIS and then I noticed this:
When I try to open the Explorer on the desktop, the screen would just go blue and then Explorer closes itself. 2. When I right click a shortcut or anything the screen also goes blue. After the screen goes blue it would go normal again.
PS. I can only open Explorer when i open it through an other shortcut. ex. I got a shortcut to an directory (C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft GamesMicrosoft Flight Simulator XaerosoftAirbus X ExtendedDocumentation) That is the only way I can open Explorer, but as i said, the screen will go blue if I right click anything.
KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE, it happens while i try to play games on Steam and also while watching Youtube videos. Really, it happens a lot while i just do everyday task. I don't know what the problem is but I have the dump files. I did RAM test and I downloaded all drivers; everything is up to date.
