how could i get it to boot/repaired/reinstalled?losing all data on HDD is fine, just need to make it work again.
been searching all over the internet on an alterative machine for a solution to a problem that occurred about an hour ago.To offer background on the machine:I upgraded it last summer with a 60gb Solid State HD to host the OS and a 700gb HD to host the bulk non-system essential files and appsI've had no anti-virus on it but occasionally run the Microsoft free Scan & Repair along with Iobits cleanup suiteThere's been this Win7.CH Trojan Horse that is occasionally detected for the past 6 months and even though I select to fix and repair, it always comes backThe machine will occasionally crash after exiting a high performance application like a videogameAfter installing the Planetside2 videogame Beta on the 700gb drive, my SS drive began to become strangely over-stuffed with files, and I could not narrow down where they originated. I uninstalled a few unessential Iobit programs and cleared my downloads and recycle bin, then something even stranger happened. The SS drive had 16gb free, while this entire time I've had it I've only managed to keep it about 2-4gb free, and the file clogging stopped from what I could tell.Anyway, a week or so later, after exiting the Planetside2 Beta application earlier the machine crashed (unsurprisingly) but upon startup, did not recover.

I have a Samsung netbook (n145) which has had a few issues starting up over the past couple months - it would prompt to run chkdsk before booting, I would let it run, and it would boot. However, yesterday I got the 'windows failed to start - a recent hardware change may be responsible' error message, and giving the option to try starting windows normally (which fails: there is a flash of BSOD and then screen goes black, and computer restarts, arriving at same 'failed to start' error). The other option is to run system repair, which also does not work: it takes ages to bring up a dialog box that searches for errors, but I have let this run for hours and it remains stuck. Tapping f4 to bring up samsung recovery also results in a stuck screen. Tapping f8 to boot to safe mode does not work either.
My main concern is having a working computer, and I can't really afford costly repairs or a new netbook. I got this one used about 1 1/2 years ago and it has no cd drive/OS boot disk (windows 7 starter came already installed). What should I do? Can I fix the hard drive, or should I replace? I am not at all technically skilled and have limited knowledge but an endless capacity to learn. I called samsung and they suggested I replace the hard drive to the tune of $100-$300 for parts alone, which is too expensive for a $100 netbook.

After the repair completed i recieved the black screen right before choosing USER , so i tried 3x more to repair which each completed but same outcome till the point it just says cant repair automatically . Then i tried to system restore which failed also , but the catch is my system boots fine from Safe Mode.

I clicked on advanced options for system recovery and support and it comes up with language and key board inout which is all right, click next and it says to access recovery options, log on as a local user, to access the command prompt as well, log on using an administrator account, I've tried my computer account password using the administrator option but it doesn't work, the other options are ASPNET and SophosSAUNB-(my last name goes here). I've tried each option with my password and it doesn't work, am i supposed to use a special password? I don't know what to do.

The install went ok, I even managed to restart my computer a few times after but after windows updates installed it won't boot. I tried to boot into safe mode, restore from the installer, and repair, none worked. After startup repair it says: "a patch is preventing the system from starting" and I get a 0x1f error code.(Preventing windows from downloading any updates didn't work either)

View 4 Replies View RelatedI tried to boot in safe mode, it got stuck in mid boot. I tried to boot it with system repair, it said it was loading files and then it got stuck on a screen that said copyright Microsoft Corporation and had a green loading bar. My husband's laptop is exactly the same as mine, so I used it to create a system repair cd. I set the laptop up to boot from cd and tried it, but I got the same thing with it sticking on the green loading bar. I ran a diagnostics on my computer and everything passed except a hard drive test in which I got the error 2000-0146. I checked that error on the dell support website and it told me to take the hard drive out and plug it back in. I have not done this yet as the instructions to do so required me to disassemble the whole computer just to get at the hard drive. After some online research, I created a Knoppix (Linux based os) 6.7 boot cd and booted from the cd drive. This worked beautifully and I am now in the process of transferring all my important data from the hard drive to an external hard drive.
So here are my questions. Everything I read about error 2000-0146 says it's a hard drive failure but if that were the case, why does the hard drive seem to work fine when accessed from a Linux OS? Also, how would disconnecting and reconnecting the hard drive fix the problem? I really don't want to take it apart if I don't have too. Could the windows boot files somehow be corrupted causing it not to boot, and if so could I access them with Knoppix and replace them with good files
Monday couldn't boot up PC, had to go to system recovery and restore to previous day.
Log files show below that 4 things failed to load. Tuesday couldn't boot up PC again.. tried to restart like 4-5 times.. Finally comes up and in the logs there's numerous things that failed to load. Running a sfc /scannow right now.

I realized some of these are not Windows 7 related but most are. While the computer "works", I do experience frequent reboots and freezes. Perhaps some of these driver loading failures are part of the cause of my issues.
My Sony vaio just turned off last week and wont boot up. It turns on an flashes Sony vaio but that's all. I made a recovery disk and I can get into bios so I tried booting from internal disk and tried startup repair got nothing, tried system restore for every restore point and none will finish. Took each piece of ram out an tried starting it up to see if bad ram was the problem and it starts the same way. I also tried the restore from previous image but I have no image. So I don't know what else to try. Windows 7

It said there was an unspecified error possibly caused by a change in system configuration. I have not changed anything on my computer, for the record, between the last time it worked and now. View 1 Replies View RelatedLast night I was on my computer and then I shut it down. Today when I came home from work it keeps saying windows failed to start. I tried hitting f8 and loading to the last good configuration doesn't work, safe mode same thing, repairing nothing, so my last resort was my windows 7 cd. So I went into bios and made my configuration boot from cd/dvd popped it in and restarted, a black screen came up saying windows is loading files, then the windows 7 menu came up, picked my language, next, and first I tried repair my computer, I get the little circle meaning its loading for like 5 seconds them it does nothing, rebooted again but this time I chose, install and I've been on the setup is starting for like 20 min. And forgot to mention, when it boots seem like it does good then comes to the screen where it says windows failed and gives me two options repair our start normal, if I pick repair it just reboots and start normal takes me to like the pick your user screen but its just blank no users, so I can't even restore our access the computer.

It boots up fine up to the part where the four balls become the windows logo, but then freezes there everytime. When i try to select the windows start up repair it blacks out the screen and I cant do anything.
I know its not a faulty hard drive because its newly fitted and this problem occured previously on a different hard drive aswell.
Created it with no problems, apparently at least. My BIOS is set to boot from CD drive, so why won't my machine boot from the system repair disk? There were no errors when disk was created. My machine just boots to windows.
Anyone else experience this with Win 7 Professional?
I have an error that system32/hall.DLL is missing so I put in my windows 7 DVD ( I Have 4 DVDs for my windows, gateway, I always put the first one) so I could start start-up repair but when the windows files is loaded it keeps starting recovery mangment which gives me options to recover my hard drive to factory defaults (ie delete files on c and reinstall windows) ,why I don't get options to choose startup repair, how can I get it to start start-up repair?

We just had some very heavy rains with lightening and my computer shut down several times, but I could restart it each time...except for the last time when Windows wouldn't startup. Nothing seems to have led up to this -- the system booted and shut down successfully, and no software updates or installs were done during the period of time it was on when it was last working. I've attempted many things, but none seem to work. /ScanOs reports no OS detected, while startup repair said the OS was booted successfully. bcdedit also shows no directories linked to "unknown". CHKDSK reports no bad sectors, so such can be discarded. This happens every time I attempt to boot to Windows 7 (Home Edition, x64). I have a copy of Fedora 17 set to dualboot with it

Just goes to black screen w/blinking cursor then goes to 'startup repair' (which I'm postiive this is a virus of somekind) & will not allow me to do anything. Just repeats itself. I downloaded Windows 7 repair to a CD-R, chgd BIOS settings to CD/DVD to boot first, saved changes, and will NOT pull/boot up from disc. I've tried 2diff repair discs, both do not work. tried doing a system restore but it got an error. Once that happend i went and tried doing a dell datasafe restore to factory settings from a image file. once it was finished a restart button popped up. once i restarted it the computer still said windows failed to start and it took me to the startup repair option again.Please help me out, this computer is not even a week old. i can't bare tell my mother it already isn't working!edit before i did the dell datasafe factory restore when i would enter the system recovery options it would ask for my user name and password that i had on the computer now that i did the dell datasafe restore it automatically puts "administrator" as the username and nothing as the password and it lets me go to the recovery options. so this makes me believe that it was successful in being restored to factory settings, yet i still have this problem?edit edit- i forgot to mention there is a blue screen that pops up real quick before it restarts and gives the two options. there was a stop code on that screen
Problem: This morning I had a brief 1 second power outage while I was using my computer which forced it to shutdown. It just stood there shutting down for about 15 minutes when i decided to click force shutdown. After restarting, computer ran checkdisk and startuip repair because windows was not loading.
Issues; I ran chkdsk a couple times, lots of bad sectors./index files repairing recovering, but it ends up hanging at stage 4 at a certain spot. I left it running at that spot for over 5 hours and just stood there(I went to sleep and woke up at same spot). I booted with windows 7 cd and tried startup repair, the first 3 times it said it couldnt repair. It only showed 2 restore points available and both gave error messages saying they couldnt load. I ran a checkdsk /r again and was fixing a lot of stuff and hung at same spot again. Tried another startup repair, this time it said it worked but still the same problem, windows isnt loading. However, I am able to get to the login screen now after waiting about 10 minutes at the windows logo however my kieyboard/mouse functionaility seems to be gone so i cant even type my password to login at that point. I ran a diagnostic in the boot menu, when checking the harddrive it gave me an error. Ive tried booting to every option available, safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt etc, nothing works. It brings me to logon screen after a long time but keyboard./mouse dont work at that point. Now, like i said i dont want to reformat my computer and lose all my files. My keyboard/mouse work with the windows 7 bootup cd doing those menus but not when it gets to logon screen booting the normal way. I was thinking of buying an external drive and installing windows on there and booting from there but im not sure if my computer would recognize it since it wont recognize my keyboard and mouse at login screen.
