Error At Boot : 0xc000000e - The System Has Failed To Start Because A Required Device Is Inaccessible?

Aug 10, 2012

Okay, so this just happened out of nowhere. Nothing seems to have led up to this -- the system booted and shut down successfully, and no software updates or installs were done during the period of time it was on when it was last working. I've attempted many things, but none seem to work. /ScanOs reports no OS detected, while startup repair said the OS was booted successfully. bcdedit also shows no directories linked to "unknown". CHKDSK reports no bad sectors, so such can be discarded. This happens every time I attempt to boot to Windows 7 (Home Edition, x64). I have a copy of Fedora 17 set to dualboot with it

Windows 7 Boot Error 0xc000000e - Required Device Inaccessible

Dec 9, 2012

This morning when I went to run on my windows 7 32-bit installed PC, I was greeted by an error message saying "The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible". This is odd because last night it was working perfectly, with no problems. I've tried several solutions, like using the repair CD 3 times, to no avail, as well as writing a new mbr through Linux, using testdisk. I also know the whole hard disk isn't compromised since my Linux dual boot is still working with no problems from its partition.

Windows 7 Won't Start - Boot Selection Failed / Required Device Inaccessible

Apr 5, 2012

I have a pc that has been running windows 7 pro fine for a couple of years. Today it wont boot stopping with the message: "Windows failed to start.A recent hardware or software change might be the cause."

To fix the problem:
1.Insert windows installation disc and restart your computer
2.Choose your language settings and then click "next"
3.Click "repair your computer".

If you do not have this disc contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.
Status: 0xc000000e
Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.

This machine has only one dvd drive and one hdd. I have checked the boot list in the bios settings and the cd drive is first then the hdd second. If I insert the windows 7 cd and press any key to boot from cd when prompted I still end up at the "windows failed to start " screen. At this point I have the option to select "Launch startup repair" or "start windows normally" but I cant select them, the machine just counts down and continues to try to launch startup repair and fails with the 0xc000000e error.

The enlarged data drive contains the folders of some installed games but the system disk is separate and was not altered in this way. I'm pretty sure that I hibernated and recovered from hibernation at least once since that change was made.Could it be that the OCZ drive has developed a fault? Or would it then be unable to even display this message? When I attempt to repair the installation using the Windows 7 disc, the operating system isn't listed. I don't think that there are any drivers for me to load - I think it's supposed to be automatic (the driver must be a part of Windows own included set).

The Boot Selection Failed Because A Required Device Is Inaccessible

I have an Intel i5, Windows 7 Ultimate, and an SSD as my main drive and 2 SATA HDDs.One day, I got a BSOD appeared and my PC restarted restarted. After that, the following error appeared: Window failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

1.Insert ....

2. .... ... status: 0xc000000e info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible

Also I noticed that BIOS only detected one of HDDs, not SSD neither other HDD.Sometimes, Windows can be started, but it doesn't work very well. When trying to copy data from F: to an external USB, it copies for a short time and then Windows 7 becomes unresponsive. This also happens in safe mode. After several reboots, now Windows will not boot and I get the error "The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible." And the BIOS only detects the SSD.

BSODs Now Boot Selection Failed Because Required Device Is Inaccessible

Jan 30, 2012

I've been getting a BSOD what seemed like once a week for the past 6 months on my laptop, which now won't even boot into windows. The first hdd was the first to go about a year ago as it is rarely even recognized anymore, so I just moved ship to the 2nd hdd which now seems to have followed suit. Before I go out and buy a new HDD a want to confirm that it is indeed the hdd and not memory, or just corrupt drivers or something simple to fix. What's wierd is that when I try to do the recovery disk option or even boot from the original win 7 cd to do a fresh install, I get no where because its so god awful slow now. I literally had to leave it sit to load into the repair disk option menu for a good 3 hours. I can't even start a fresh install of win 7 because of how slow everything is.I also can't press F8 to get into the boot selection menu to select safe mode, or last known good config etc...I updated the bios which made no difference. I opened up the laptop and disconnected and reconnected the one hdd that was easiest to get to(the other is a bitch) and nothing. I also did a scandisk on the only hdd that gets recognized and in the options it said it had a partition size of 0, but had 2 million sectors to scan which it found 0 bad sectors in.Also when it boots up now its not even half as loud as it used to be yet all the fans seem to be spinning. Why would a couple of dead hdds prevent me from booting from a disk or usb to try a fresh install?

I realized some of these are not Windows 7 related but most are. While the computer "works", I do experience frequent reboots and freezes. Perhaps some of these driver loading failures are part of the cause of my issues.

Install Error: Required CD/DVD Drive Device Driver Is Missing

Jul 29, 2010

I'm trying to install Windows 7 64bit. After loading windows 7 setup from my dvd drive I get the error "Required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing." From doing a lot of research, it seems this error has nothing to do with my DVD drive but has to do with the SATA Controller Driver. So I try to load the 64bit drivers for the SATA controller and it finds them okay but when i try to install, it says something like "no new devices found". The SATA Driver(s) are the only it ever finds, except for the time I enabled Raid... Then those drivers showed up as well but with the exact same results.

From another forum I was directed to this microsoft page: [URL] and the resolution says: "To workaround this issue, disable AHCI mode for your disk controller in the system BIOS. Typically the controller has to be changed from AHCI mode to "IDE" or "ATA" mode. "

My motherboard is an Asus P5N-E nForce 650i SLI Chipset LGA775 FSB1333 DDR2 Mainboard. However, I can not find anyway to change the setting from AHCI mode to IDE or ATA. As far as I can tell, nothing in my bios allows me to change that setting... or at best it's unapparent.

Create System Image - Backup Failed / Device Not Connected

Jan 9, 2010

I recently built a windows 7 home premium PC with an Intel 160 GB SSD as (C) for OS/programs and second 1TB HDD as (D) for data and backups. I also have a DVD burner (H). They are all SATA drives running in AHCI mode. Immediately after installing just windows, I used the windows backup feature to successfully create a system image to a local disk (D) which was and still is nearly empty. The next day, after installing drivers, updates, and a few programs, I went to create a second system image but this time it failed. The process started as it should have but halfway through it failed with the following message:

"The backup failed"
"The device is not connected (0x8007048f)"

At that point, after exiting the program, the D drive does not show up on my computer. Upon rebooting the D drive reappears. I searched the web and found some references to checking whether volume shadow copying services and their dependent services were working and that didn't work. Another reference said to try updating to a newer bios as some have bugs that screw up the enumerator for the drive order. The BIOS I use is the latest and wasn't changed since my first successful attempt at creating the system image.

Windows 7 Failed To Start, System Repair Can't Discover?

Oct 20, 2012

been searching all over the internet on an alterative machine for a solution to a problem that occurred about an hour ago.To offer background on the machine:I upgraded it last summer with a 60gb Solid State HD to host the OS and a 700gb HD to host the bulk non-system essential files and appsI've had no anti-virus on it but occasionally run the Microsoft free Scan & Repair along with Iobits cleanup suiteThere's been this Win7.CH Trojan Horse that is occasionally detected for the past 6 months and even though I select to fix and repair, it always comes backThe machine will occasionally crash after exiting a high performance application like a videogameAfter installing the Planetside2 videogame Beta on the 700gb drive, my SS drive began to become strangely over-stuffed with files, and I could not narrow down where they originated. I uninstalled a few unessential Iobit programs and cleared my downloads and recycle bin, then something even stranger happened. The SS drive had 16gb free, while this entire time I've had it I've only managed to keep it about 2-4gb free, and the file clogging stopped from what I could tell.Anyway, a week or so later, after exiting the Planetside2 Beta application earlier the machine crashed (unsurprisingly) but upon startup, did not recover.

Startup repair unsurprisingly can't fix it, and I receive the following problem signature:The Windows Repair Problem Signature Problem Event Name: Startup Repair Offline Problem Signature 1: 6.1.7600.16385 Problem Signature 2: 6.1.7600.16385 Problem Signature 3: Unknown Problem Signature 4: 21200506 Problem Signature 5: AutoFailover Problem Signature 6: 17 Problem Signature 7: CorruptFile OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1 Locale ID: 1033decided to give the posted solution a go since it seemed so similar to mine.Unfortunately I did not realize that the tech tailored the solution specifically to the posters scan results, so when I tried to use the same solution, it didn't work.I'm quickly realizing that my problem is not the same...What I've tried so farI ran Chkdsk and it said F parameters aren't specified and it only took a millisecond to complete showing nothing wrong. The Startup Repair scan returns are all "0x0" errors. The afformentioned forum posts solution didn't work since it wasn't specified to my machine

Windows Failed To Start, Unable To Run System Repair

Jan 21, 2013

I have a Samsung netbook (n145) which has had a few issues starting up over the past couple months - it would prompt to run chkdsk before booting, I would let it run, and it would boot. However, yesterday I got the 'windows failed to start - a recent hardware change may be responsible' error message, and giving the option to try starting windows normally (which fails: there is a flash of BSOD and then screen goes black, and computer restarts, arriving at same 'failed to start' error). The other option is to run system repair, which also does not work: it takes ages to bring up a dialog box that searches for errors, but I have let this run for hours and it remains stuck. Tapping f4 to bring up samsung recovery also results in a stuck screen. Tapping f8 to boot to safe mode does not work either.

My main concern is having a working computer, and I can't really afford costly repairs or a new netbook. I got this one used about 1 1/2 years ago and it has no cd drive/OS boot disk (windows 7 starter came already installed). What should I do? Can I fix the hard drive, or should I replace? I am not at all technically skilled and have limited knowledge but an endless capacity to learn. I called samsung and they suggested I replace the hard drive to the tune of $100-$300 for parts alone, which is too expensive for a $100 netbook.
