Then I tried to run the Windows 7 installation disk, I go to the cmd prompt and run the
DISKPART
diskpart
list disk
select Disk X (X=disk where I installed all the OS, should be Disk 0)
list partition
select Partition X (X=partition containing OSX)
Virtual Disk Service error:
The pack is not online
and then i run the Bootrec /ScanOS, it came with 0 identified Windows Installations, this is why I come into the cmd prompt as I could not select the installed OS.
I've tried that from bootable cd to repair the install but the partition of windows7 is not recognized still.
I just bought a new Lenovo T430s and a Samsung 840 Pro SSD. Cloned the system by using Norton Ghost (First cloned the hidden disk, then Windows 7 disk) as the manual (Samsung 830 manual) said. Nothing seems to have led up to this -- the system booted and shut down successfully, and no software updates or installs were done during the period of time it was on when it was last working. I've attempted many things, but none seem to work. /ScanOs reports no OS detected, while startup repair said the OS was booted successfully. bcdedit also shows no directories linked to "unknown". CHKDSK reports no bad sectors, so such can be discarded. This happens every time I attempt to boot to Windows 7 (Home Edition, x64). I have a copy of Fedora 17 set to dualboot with it
View 14 Replies View RelatedMy PC had a single hard drive with 300Gig. (I will refer to it as original HD64) Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit installed. Worked fine for a year or two. Eventually started crashing randomly, attempted lots of fixes but was reliably informed that it could be my hard drive. I decided I would be best with a new HDD and a fresh install. Bought a new hard drive. 250Gig (Will refer to it as new HD32). Unplugged originalHD64 from sata cable and power. Plugged in newHD32 into sata cable.
Inserted bootable USB flash drive with windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit on it. Went through full install including partition creation etc. Install crashed part way through but I think the dog knocked the power lead. Restarted install. Everything seemed to install fine. Plugged in original HD64 into second sata slot. Changed boot priority to New HD32. Booted fine.
Clicked on >Computer and found new HD32 as C: drive and Old HD64 as D: as I wanted it to be.
So far so good. But on next boot the CHKDSK thing ran. Then it booted ok. CHKDSK ran on next boot also. Then I managed too boot normally but realised there were a couple of things not working properly in the fresh install. Things like Windows Picture viewer would not open anything at all and a couple of other issues. And it was especially annoying that CHKDSK kept running. I asked for advice and was told that I should probably just format the new HD32 and resintall from fresh incase the install had somehow gone wrong.
So, I changed the boot order to Old HD64 and logged into my old windows OS which I had left installed in case anything went wrong. From there I navigated to disk management and formatted and repartitioned the NEW HD32 disk. Now I unplugged Old HD64. Plugged in bootable USB flash drive and tried to follow the exact same steps as I followed last time. But instead of going through the windows install I just get ... "The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible" (and some other text viewable in the following link).

I have unplugged the New HD32 and plugged in the old HD64 and done the same thing just to test if its a HD issue but I get the same problem.

The enlarged data drive contains the folders of some installed games but the system disk is separate and was not altered in this way. I'm pretty sure that I hibernated and recovered from hibernation at least once since that change was made.Could it be that the OCZ drive has developed a fault? Or would it then be unable to even display this message?When I attempt to repair the installation using the Windows 7 disc, the operating system isn't listed. I don't think that there are any drivers for me to load - I think it's supposed to be automatic (the driver must be a part of Windows own included set).

i'm running an msi cx420 that's 6 months old, windows 7 32 bit. this problem only surfaced after i defragged my laptop and updated MSE and restarted. to be clear, my laptop isn't of much importance but my data is what i'm worried about. edit: also, i've tried to burn the windows 7 system repair disc on a USB as follows, but with no luck. i'm running windows xp on this computer and if anyone could also help me on this i'd be much obliged.

Also I noticed that BIOS only detected one of HDDs, not SSD neither other HDD.Sometimes, Windows can be started, but it doesn't work very well.When trying to copy data from F: to an external USB, it copies for a short time and then Windows 7 becomes unresponsive. This also happens in safe mode.After several reboots, now Windows will not boot and I get the error "The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible." And the BIOS only detects the SSD.

I was on my tour to Cyprus and last night I came back I saw my PC uptime was 22days.I asked my brother wht's going on , he told me if you'll shut down pc, i'll not get it stared. I've been getting a BSOD what seemed like once a week for the past 6 months on my laptop, which now won't even boot into windows. The first hdd was the first to go about a year ago as it is rarely even recognized anymore, so I just moved ship to the 2nd hdd which now seems to have followed suit. Before I go out and buy a new HDD a want to confirm that it is indeed the hdd and not memory, or just corrupt drivers or something simple to fix.What's wierd is that when I try to do the recovery disk option or even boot from the original win 7 cd to do a fresh install, I get no where because its so god awful slow now. I literally had to leave it sit to load into the repair disk option menu for a good 3 hours. I can't even start a fresh install of win 7 because of how slow everything is.I also can't press F8 to get into the boot selection menu to select safe mode, or last known good config etc...I updated the bios which made no difference. I opened up the laptop and disconnected and reconnected the one hdd that was easiest to get to(the other is a bitch) and nothing. I also did a scandisk on the only hdd that gets recognized and in the options it said it had a partition size of 0, but had 2 million sectors to scan which it found 0 bad sectors in.Also when it boots up now its not even half as loud as it used to be yet all the fans seem to be spinning.Why would a couple of dead hdds prevent me from booting from a disk or usb to try a fresh install?

This machine has only one dvd drive and one hdd. I have checked the boot list in the bios settings and the cd drive is first then the hdd second. If I insert the windows 7 cd and press any key to boot from cd when prompted I still end up at the "windows failed to start " screen. At this point I have the option to select "Launch startup repair" or "start windows normally" but I cant select them, the machine just counts down and continues to try to launch startup repair and fails with the 0xc000000e error.
I am not able to run recovery on by laptop. When I try to run recovery from hard drive or even booting system from DVD ROM using recovery discs I get the following error:

Just installed Avira antivirus and rebooted to complete the installation. I am getting the error "Boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible" whenever I attempt to boot. I have tried using the Windows 7 disc to repair but it does not work as it runs for a few seconds then instructs me to reboot.The hard drive was initially not appearing but luckily I can now access all my files from this OS, however I would really like to gain access to my main OS again. I have also reset the CMOS but it hasn't changed anything.

Everything was normal ( I'm not so good at this but I've done it before) till after 30 of important window updates this error occurs. I don't think I did anything wrong. I tried to use the installation disc again to click"repair your computer" but I couldn't find this option. I cant even opnen windows on save mode... please if you can help me I would really appreciate it. I still have the 2 cds for the installation and the "drives and utilities" too.

This morning when I went to run on my windows 7 32-bit installed PC, I was greeted by an error message saying "The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible". This is odd because last night it was working perfectly, with no problems. I've tried several solutions, like using the repair CD 3 times, to no avail, as well as writing a new mbr through Linux, using testdisk. I also know the whole hard disk isn't compromised since my Linux dual boot is still working with no problems from its partition.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a strange issue haunting me. On a dual boot PC (Windows 7 x86 and x64 the OS selection (Windows Boot Manager) will not allow me to select with the arrow keys. Also the enter key will not allow bypassing the timer. I recently reinstalled both OS but it never worked previously when I had Windows 7 x86 and XP x64 on a dual boot.
During the install, during the several restarts that occur when you are doing an install it will work and I could select but now I cant. The keyboard is a USB keyboard with wireless mouse.
Any ideas?

Well, I have some questions... first, regarding the boot screen when I turn on the computer. I've installed Windows XP SP2 this way: Deleted all the partitions on my hard drive, then did two partitions from the installation program of the CD, then I installed Windows XP in one of the partitions, then I installed Windows 7 in the other partition.
So, I have two SO's running, but, when I turn on the PC only stars with Windows 7. There is no OS selection screen at the very beggining. What could be the problem?
Second, and regarding with graphics. I'm running Win 7 in a HP 530 Core 2 Duo 2GB RAM and this: "Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950, up to 224-MB shared system memory". When I turn on the slideshow as a Desktop Background, sometimes I see weird lines and the transition is not as smooth. Also, I've installed Warcraft III Frozen Throne and when I play, I see some dark flashes and lines.
This happens because of the "beta" not handling well the GMA 950?? I'm using the drivers that came on with the Windows 7, however, I think I've updated them via Windows Update since it seems that HP and Intel are friends with Bill Gates.

I select the ' older version' and the system gives me the same listed above error...I select 'windows 7' and, well.... here I am, posting this thread from my PC, Windows 7, updated, gageted and all running smoothly...Hibernate sometimes boots and sometimes shows the same error.....Start menu 'Shut down' and 'Restart' also don't work on the odd occasion....I researched and downloaded EasyBCD to delete the 'older version of windows' but it appears to have only 'deleted' it from Windows 7's 'eyes' because ultimately the thing is still showing on my OS choice menu and is evidently causing a few hiccups.
I had Win XP on 1 HDD & installed Win 7 on a different HDD. I think I accidentally did a dual boot install because Win 7 won't boot without the the XP disk connected to the motherboard.
That was fine until my XP drive died yesterday. Now Win 7 won't boot. The first time I tried to repair, Win 7 was not even seen. so I booted into diskpart and made the partition active. Now it could be seen as an OS.
Then I did a startup repair. It did whatever it does & when it was finished I restarted the pc but it didn't boot I went back to diskpart and confirmed the partition was active. I went back startup repair and tried again.
This time it said it could not detect a problem, but it still will not boot. What else can I do? My pc is homebuilt. Right now I have the 1 sata drive, 2.53 ghz cpu, 4gb ram, onboard video & sound

I reformatted my hard drive, and did a fresh install and everything went well. It then restarted to finish the installation and I get the error again. I unplug my 2nd hard drive (with all my music, movies, games etc.) and it boots fine. I'm confused how a hard drive that has never had an OS on it can cause boot errors. I booted into ubuntu before my upgrade and copied things off the media drive fine so I don't think the drive is bad.

I've initiated the "out of box state" and it went through the whole process. When it was finished I shut down the computer. Then the next morning I booted the computer up and it stated "HDD Boot Failed". I tried running Factory reset again but there is only a blinking cursor on the top left hand corner of the screen.

One day, it failed to go to Windows and stuck at Startup Repair. I think it was caused by invalid driver.
But anyway, my concern is the Startup repair is unable to repair a Windows that is installed in a vhd. Then what should I gonna to do?
