Win7 Freezes After First Stage Of Installing

Oct 20, 2009

I'm trying to install Windows 7 32bit on one of my drives via Vista, I click install on the DVD and click the drive. It does the first stage of installing and expanding files (whatever that is!). Then it restarts.. upon restart it boots onto Windows Setup and I get the logo which glows for a while then freezes.

I've looked this up and i've removed ram so I just have 1stick of 1gig and i've unplugged various USB items except my keyboard and mouse and still get the issue.

Any ideas?

Win7 RC Freezes

May 2, 2009

I recently installed Windows 7 RC to my laptop and am facing a problem now. Sometimes when I plug in an USB Hard-drive or a ZEN MP3 player, the system does a full lock-up.

I had 7 Beta on the laptop earlier and it had no problems whatsoever. Anyone else experienced/solved similar problems or should I just go try and reinstall?

Win7 Freezes Whenever I Play Video

Jun 8, 2009

I've been using Windows 7 RC x64 6.1.7100 for about a month now, and i've used K-Lite to watch videos without running into any problems.

But for the past 3 days anytime i play a video, windows 7 will lock up sometimes in a few minutes and sometimes it will take longer. Keyboard commmands dont work.

This happens with K-Lite , VLC and WMP.

I have tried uninstalling K-Lite and installing the latest codecs, this didnt work. I have also tried Windows 7 Codecs ( Shark007.net - Windows 7 Codecs )

My video card is an ATI Radeon HD 3850, i had the latest Windows 7 drivers installed, I uninstalled those and installed the drivers for Vista, same problem.

any ideas of what could be wrong or something i have done or have not done?

Bsod While Installing Win7 On Vhd

Jun 29, 2009

I am using windows 7 build 7260 as my primary Os.

I wanted to try Windows 7 Home Basic edition. So I modified build 7201 iso and started installing it into a vhd. After the first restart during installation process it gave me a BSOD. It is telling me that the drive containing the vhd file does`nt have enough space so that the vhd could expand. But i already have enough space left in that drive that is more than 11Gb while windows 7 takes only 8Gb to install.

Installing .net Framework 3.5 Sp1 On A 64 Bit Win7

Dec 25, 2009

I downloaded "dotnetfx35" from the Microsoft web site on my Windows 7 64 bit PC. When I double clicked on this file, it said it was extracting files, but I did not see any window popping up to show that the .NET framework is being installed. Now, I see a Microsoft.NET folder in the Programs in the Programs (x86) folder on my C drive.

However, I do not see MIcrosoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 in the Start>Programs menu or in the Add/REmove Programs list in the Control panel. Am I missing something? How can I verify that .net framework has in fact been successfully installed?

Installing Win7 On Dell - Restrictions

Sep 18, 2009

When Windows7 ships, I will be installing it on my laptop (Dell Latitude D631). This machine currently has Win XP Pro installed on a SATA HDD of 120Gb capacity.

My plan is to remove this disk & put it to one side, and install Windows 7 64bit on a brand new SATA HDD. I have bought a 500Gb WD drive and ideally plan to create 2 partitions - one for Windows, one for my data.

My questions are:

1. Any upfront advice on pitfalls of this approach?

2. Any knowledge (I can't specifically find any data on this, having trawled all sorts of places) of any drive capacity limitation for my Dell laptop - I have heard of 120 or 137 or other Gigabyte sizes as a limit so am now a little concerned that my lovely new 500Gb drive may not be fully usable.

If there's any inherent limitation, what's the way around this? Or will the BIOS 'autodetect' and see all 500Gb or is there something I need to do in BIOS or elsewhere to ensure the whole drive is visible and usable?

3. Finally...can I use the Windows 7 install process to create the 2 or even 3 partitions successfully?

Query About Installing Win7 On D Drive

Oct 25, 2009

I have a 320 gb hardrive which is split into 2 partitions at the moment, C and D. Unfortunately, my C drive, which has Windows XP installed on it at the moment, is only 15gb. I know I need atleast 20GB for a Windows 7 64-bit installation.

As I don't have access to another drive or a large enough USB to back my files up in at the moment, I was wondering if I should just follow the guide here and install Windows 7 in my D drive instead. The thing I wanted to confirm was this:

I read in this thread that if I install Windows 7 on D drive, it'll read the drive it is installed on as C. Is that true? Because I was wondering if I could just install Windows 7 in D drive and then format C which has XP in it (but none of my data).

Then I could rename the blank drive to D. Is this scenario possible? To cut a long story short, I want to install Windows 7 on my PC, get rid of XP, but my C drive is only 15gb and my D drive has all my data (movies, pictures, documents etc) in it.

Installing Win7 And Partitioning A 1TB Drive

Dec 18, 2009

I am looking to use my 1TB seagate SATA II drive for my Windows 7 installation, and was wondering how I should go about partitioning it and how large each partition should be or what I sould put on each partition.

My system will be used for the following:

Computer Games that take up a lot of space (World In Conflict, Empire Total War, Battlefield 2, Call of Duty, etc.)

Music

Video files/ recordings (I have a Hauppauge tv card)

Some Photos

Basic apps like office

Data files

Which of the above items should I put on the OS partition, and which should get their own partitions? How large should the OS partition be compared to the other partitions? Seperate partition for games?

Having one giant drive might be nice to try, but then I would have no where to put my excess video files if I ever needed to reformat. The 1TB drive accomodates whatever video files I can't store on my 2 smaller drives and currently has 120 GB of video on it.

In addition to my 1TB drive, I also have 2 more internal drives, a 250GB Maxtor ATA which is filled with video files and a 200GB WD SATA that I use for my TV card and storing the recordings I make until I have a chance to edit them or move them to a differet drive.

I have a seperate 250GB external drive for backing up data files and music, so the backup issue is taken care of.

Installing Win7 On Asus K8V SE Deluxe

Feb 2, 2010

I have been working on this for about 5 hours now, searching many forums, downloading drivers, changing Bios settings, etc... but nothing is working. I realize there is a compatibility issue with KV8 and Win7 but a guy at Asus said it might be able to be fixed with certain drivers. I have been fooling around with VIA and Fasttrak 378.

My hard drive is working fine as I am using it right now, but when I get to the Win7 installation to choose where to save it, it does not detect a hard drive. This happened when I tried to install XP pro 64 a while ago as well. How can I make it appear? My system is:

ABS built
Asus K8V SE Deluxe
AMD Athlon 64 3000+
2gb G.Skill Ram
160gb Maxtor SATA hd

I guess I'm confused as to why my hard drive is even RAID configured being that there is only 1.

Guide To Installing Un Signed Drivers In Win7 X64

Jun 22, 2009

Since I made the Move to 64-bit a while back, Every once in a while, I would run into a Problem where I needed to Install Driver that was Un-Signed.

As A Security measure in the 64-bit Versions of Vista/7, All Drivers must come with a Secure Digital Signature.

This is not a large problem anymore with the fact that Most Drivers are Signed nowadays. But Older Hardware Drivers tend not to be Signed.

There is a Simple way around this Block.

Open the Command Prompt in Admin Mode (Type "CMD" into the Start Menu and press "Ctrl+Shift+Enter") Enter this Command: bcdedit /set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS Now when you Re-Boot, You should be able to Install those Pesky Un-Signed Drivers.

WUSB600N + Win7 Auto Installing Own Drivers

Jan 5, 2010

I use a Linksys WUSB600N wireless adapter and I'm having a problem with it. Every time my adapter is detected, Windows 7 installs its own drivers which are terrible. I can't even install the drivers I want! I have searched everywhere but haven't any luck for solutions. I've even tried installing my drivers over Windows', but that doesn't work well. I have Windows set to "Never install driver software from Windows Update" but it still does.

The setup.exe for my drivers requires the adapter to be plugged in to finish installation, but I can't do that with Windows' drivers inevitably going to install first. Nor can I manually install drivers with the Device Manager if it also requires the adapter to be plugged in. I'm guessing the DriverStore is causing Windows to auto-install these faulty drivers?

But the harddisk is seem to be still active as I can still hear it running. And no, there're no weird voices that came from the harddisk. Is it normal judging by the size of my HDD and the size of its usage ?Should I stop it or let it continue ?P.S. : the chkdsk is running on boot?

OS Freezes, Audio Freezes To After Installing USB Audio Device?

Aug 5, 2011

My audio was working well, but i decided to start recording find a way to improve my outbound audio quality (i'm an audiophile). I purchased a Fast Track Pro. Unlike other threads I've read, I'm not seeing any BSOD and its not crackling. My operating system will just stop functioning, or freeze for a half a second at a time. This can become frequent at about 10 times in a thirty second period requiring a restart. I had installed the latest x64 driver for my W7 x64 system from M-audio's website.

I uninstalled the driver and restarted, the issue persisted. I then installed the on-board audio driver and restarted, no system lag is present. The audio device-driver is acting up and I'm not sure why. Because i bought it used M-audio's support is a no-go. Are there any additional steps I can take which may troubleshoot this issue?

Windows 7 Upgrade From Vista Fails At 2nd Stage

I've uninstalled my anti-virus (AVG) as it seemed reluctant to turn off.I then ran the installation from the cd (64 bit). When I reached the second stage of Expanding Windows Files it throws up the following "Windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of installation. To install windows, restart the installation".I've tried this 3 times and same thing happens at 20% of the same stage every time.I think I need to post an error log but I searched for and could not find what I needed.

Screen Goes Black (PC Does NOT Hang) After First Stage Of Installation

Apr 6, 2010

My problem is that during Windows 7 Ultimate installation (right after the first reboot) the screen goes black! The monitor does not loose the signal because I can still see the green solid LED on it. I have run into this issue four times with four different PCs with four different configurations. The only common denominator here is the type of video card (I say the type of video card because this has happened with different brands and models of video cards). This has happened only with video cards that have DVI, S-Video and VGA ports, but only on the ones that have the VGA port that PLUGS through a little ribbon cable to the card it self. I have successfully installed Windows 7 on systems that have video cards with the same ports but the VGA port is solder to the card. It seems that after the first reboot and after it displays "Starting Windows", Windows thinks that the active port on the video card is the DVI port and NOT the VGA port that has been using up until that point! I know this because I have used a DVI to VGA adapter right after the screen goes black and there it is! the setup process waiting for my input (create a user)...

Windows 7 32&64 Bit Won't Pass First Stage Of Completing Installation?

Jun 5, 2011

Windows 7 32&64bit wont pass first stage of Completing Installation due to "VGA DRIVER" After many weeks of trying to fix my mistake

[code]...

Well first off the computer was running Windows xp64 pro and I performed clean install of windows 7 64BIT, Everything was working great and installed all updates up to sp1. Then I got a "twitch" in my brain and deciced to update my bios which I have never done nor even really used bios before and even better I updated when I was using windows 7. I was nable to open safari and I think other things were glitching out but cant remember. So of ourse now I know that my bios settings changed with the update and I attempted to reset and oll back and now have the old bios reinstalled and have tried many different settings with no change in installation. So I thought maby another clean install will fix my mistakes.and now after many many attempts to install both 32 AND 64BIT Windows 7 I found that using Shift f10 and going to device manager I can see that only the VGA DRIVER has a question mark and there is not a display drivers folder. I have tried onboard with no card installed with same results. I have also tried 3 different video cards and even ownloaded the driver for them for windows 7 64 and 32 from microsoft update catalog and it will say it can not be installed at the load driver option during windows 7 install, it will find the driver and put it on the list so it knows what Im trying to install just wont install it.(like it doesn't recognize the hardware)So im going crazy because I know windows 7 will run on this maching I just dont know what to do to make it work again other then find a working vga driver or video card that will install its drivers during the install from the windows 7 disc.I have tried:2 different hd both formated with windows 7 disc from cmd prompt disabled everything in bios I am not needing for installinstalling from usb with nothing attached to motherboard except a video card because I dont think onboard is compatable.Have tried to install in safe mode tried to disable vga during completing installation tried disabling usb after first restart and removed usb.I have tried installing in a different computer then puting hd back in and repair says it can not repair.Well im stuck believing I need to have a working VGA driver for installation to complete or it is not recognizing my card to know to install the driver.I have two VGA cards to try.Geforce 8500GT Geforce 7300LE Also my ethernet driver will not install ither so I dont have internet when using shift f10 to attempt installing driver over internet. I have been keeping it disables to prevent a problem there also.

Device Stage - Devices And Printers Blank

May 15, 2009

Really weird, when selecting Devices and Printers (Device Stage) in the menu the progress bar would take forever and never display anything - just blank.

Finally discovered it was actually a bluetooth issue in services. I don't even know why I looked there - -

THE FIX at least for me..

Click Start button, type "services" into the search program and files box. This brings up a list in the menu, select Services. This should open a list of local services on your system.., Find 'Bluetooth Service" and make sure it has started, right click and set to 'automatic' (mine was already set), Select "Bluetooth Support Service" and start, set to automatic (mine was set on manual) --

This fixed my issue, hopefully yours as well..

Sony VAIO BSOD At Windows Password Stage

May 1, 2012

I am able to boot using Safe Mode and Networking and the laptop appears to be very stable when this option is selected.

Through Safe Mode I have attempted system restores which allow me to get past the windows password stage on a normal boot. But I then get error messages and network connectivity is unavailable when i then reboot I end up with the BSOD issue again.

Laptop Slow / Freezes Since Installing Windows 7

Feb 24, 2012

My laptop used to run XP, something got corrupted and I got the blue screen of death. I took it to my brother (who is a network administrator) to fix it. He couldn't figure out how to fix or restore whatever system file was corrupted in XP, so he backed up my documents & program files, and then installed Windows 7. He then dumped all of those backed up files into a folder on my C drive called OLD FILES. It has been super slow and occastionally freezes since that time.

The C drive is almost full. I am certain that I have multiple copies of the same files and programs, and have the files for old software that I do not need or use. I cannot uninstall many of them because they were not installed, they were copied. I have tried many utilities in an attempt to find the duplicate files, or to clean up old data, and to speed up the system, but I only see minor improvements

Also, I have very little free space on the hard drive. however I am so afraid of deleting the wrong file or program and being back where I started when it crashed. I need advice on what I should do to fix this situation. Should I leave the OS as is, or change back to XP? And how can I determine which program filess are actually being used and which are duplicates?

I have thought about just buying a new laptop but that is not really an option at this time. So what do I need to do to make this laptop A) run faster and B) clean out all those duplicates and extra files I do not need.
