I have a Dell XPS 430 that came with Windows Vista and a Windows 7 upgrade disk. I set up my main hard drive with Windows 7 on one partition, Linux on another partition, and a third partition for storage. I recently needed more space for Windows, and no longer needed Linux, so using the Windows 7 disk manager I deleted the Linux partition and extended the Win partition using the newly unallocated space.
Upon restarting my machine, I am no longer able to boot into windows but instead am presented with the message:
GRUB Loading, please wait...
Error 22
I have a Windows 7 disk that I am using to access the repair utility, which I have run countless times. I have tried severel of the tutorials to rebuild BCD and FixMBR, etc etc. Frankly I am getting lost in all the commands and not even sure what does what anymore!

So I am having a problem and I am hoping that someone can help. On my desktop I recently installed Win7 on a 1TB internal drive. I installed it on separate drive then I had my original WinXP32 installed. So I could test out Win7 before fully transferring over. Well it worked just fine for that last 2 months and I finally decided to get ride on my older WinXP32 OS and run Ubuntu 9.10 on that drive.
After installing Ubuntu on my old WinXP drive (that was the original drive on my PC) I no longer can run Win7 I just get this Error (Grub Error 17) when I try to boot my system, but I can still run Ubuntu. If there is anyone out there that could give me some advice on how to get my Win7 OS to run again I would love some advice.

I'm trying to install windows 7 home premium on my hubbys laptop. He had Linux Ubuntu on it, which he wanted wiped. I tried just installing windows7 over the top of it but it wouldn't work...so silly me thought I'd have a go at wiping it myself!
Now I can't do anything and all I get is the following error...
Grub loading stage 1.5
grub loading please wait...
Error 17
Nothing else comes up at all and I can't boot any disc at all
I've already installed windows7 ultimate on my own computer but I had my pc partitioned with ubuntu and windows and (with some help) was able to install over the top of everything with no problems. Don't know what on earth has gone wrong this time.

I have 4 partitions as c,d,e,f. I have merged d,e,f using disk management tool from windows 7. Everything went fine till I merged three extended partitions to one. Now I can't delete the free space now. When I right click I can see New shrink volume and delete partition options but I can't delete my freespace. When I do so I got a message like can't delete partition an error occurs stating that not enough space available on disk to complete this operation". And I am not able to see my partition in my computer. Now I shutdown my system and started now it showing no partition found Grub error. I have linux in this but I didn't touch that partition. My model is sony viao VPCEB15FM. I tried with internal backup but no use.

I just recently returned from a trip out of town and found when I tried to boot my computer I had a Grub boot error 15, file not found. I've never heard of grub4dos before I began trying to figure out what was wrong with my computer and found that it is used for dual booting. I run windows 7 ultimate x64 and have never dual booted my machine. While my laptop itself is not password protected, I do require a password to get into windows.
get around the required password to install grub4dos, install linux, then copy my hard-drive, leaving it useless when they're done? If not, is there some other way, a virus or trojan, that could cause windows to fail and revert to grub? I did remove my hard-drive, put it into an external case and try to look at it on another computer. In the disk manager it shows that it's healthy, has 465gb avail and the format is RAW.

I'm running a Chkdsk/r on my WIndows 7 laptop. The HDD in it has size of about 500 gigabytes, and 400 gigabytes have been used. There's no symptoms of failing recently, but I've got a feeling that it must be checked. So I ran Chkdsk/r about more than 24 hours ago. When it reached stage 4 of 5 at about 36 percent (316831 of 586736 files processed),it seem to be stuck. and It has been the same state for about 30 hours now. But the harddisk is seem to be still active as I can still hear it running. And no, there're no weird voices that came from the harddisk. Is it normal judging by the size of my HDD and the size of its usage ?Should I stop it or let it continue ?P.S. : the chkdsk is running on boot?

I'm trying to install Windows 7 32bit on one of my drives via Vista, I click install on the DVD and click the drive. It does the first stage of installing and expanding files (whatever that is!). Then it restarts.. upon restart it boots onto Windows Setup and I get the logo which glows for a while then freezes.
I've looked this up and i've removed ram so I just have 1stick of 1gig and i've unplugged various USB items except my keyboard and mouse and still get the issue.
Any ideas?

I purchased the Win 7 upgrade (Home Premium). I'm running Vista (64 bit) on my 2 years old HP laptop.I have opted for the custom install to clean up. I've saved all the docs/pics/mp3 etc and I have the programs I need to reinstall. I've uninstalled my anti-virus (AVG) as it seemed reluctant to turn off.I then ran the installation from the cd (64 bit). When I reached the second stage of Expanding Windows Files it throws up the following "Windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of installation. To install windows, restart the installation".I've tried this 3 times and same thing happens at 20% of the same stage every time.I think I need to post an error log but I searched for and could not find what I needed.

My problem is that during Windows 7 Ultimate installation (right after the first reboot) the screen goes black! The monitor does not loose the signal because I can still see the green solid LED on it. I have run into this issue four times with four different PCs with four different configurations. The only common denominator here is the type of video card (I say the type of video card because this has happened with different brands and models of video cards). This has happened only with video cards that have DVI, S-Video and VGA ports, but only on the ones that have the VGA port that PLUGS through a little ribbon cable to the card it self. I have successfully installed Windows 7 on systems that have video cards with the same ports but the VGA port is solder to the card. It seems that after the first reboot and after it displays "Starting Windows", Windows thinks that the active port on the video card is the DVI port and NOT the VGA port that has been using up until that point! I know this because I have used a DVI to VGA adapter right after the screen goes black and there it is! the setup process waiting for my input (create a user)...

Windows 7 32&64bit wont pass first stage of Completing Installation due to "VGA DRIVER" After many weeks of trying to fix my mistake
[code]...
Well first off the computer was running Windows xp64 pro and I performed clean install of windows 7 64BIT, Everything was working great and installed all updates up to sp1. Then I got a "twitch" in my brain and deciced to update my bios which I have never done nor even really used bios before and even better I updated when I was using windows 7. I was nable to open safari and I think other things were glitching out but cant remember. So of ourse now I know that my bios settings changed with the update and I attempted to reset and oll back and now have the old bios reinstalled and have tried many different settings with no change in installation. So I thought maby another clean install will fix my mistakes.and now after many many attempts to install both 32 AND 64BIT Windows 7 I found that using Shift f10 and going to device manager I can see that only the VGA DRIVER has a question mark and there is not a display drivers folder. I have tried onboard with no card installed with same results. I have also tried 3 different video cards and even ownloaded the driver for them for windows 7 64 and 32 from microsoft update catalog and it will say it can not be installed at the load driver option during windows 7 install, it will find the driver and put it on the list so it knows what Im trying to install just wont install it.(like it doesn't recognize the hardware)So im going crazy because I know windows 7 will run on this maching I just dont know what to do to make it work again other then find a working vga driver or video card that will install its drivers during the install from the windows 7 disc.I have tried:2 different hd both formated with windows 7 disc from cmd prompt disabled everything in bios I am not needing for installinstalling from usb with nothing attached to motherboard except a video card because I dont think onboard is compatable.Have tried to install in safe mode tried to disable vga during completing installation tried disabling usb after first restart and removed usb.I have tried installing in a different computer then puting hd back in and repair says it can not repair.Well im stuck believing I need to have a working VGA driver for installation to complete or it is not recognizing my card to know to install the driver.I have two VGA cards to try.Geforce 8500GT Geforce 7300LE Also my ethernet driver will not install ither so I dont have internet when using shift f10 to attempt installing driver over internet. I have been keeping it disables to prevent a problem there also.

Really weird, when selecting Devices and Printers (Device Stage) in the menu the progress bar would take forever and never display anything - just blank.
Finally discovered it was actually a bluetooth issue in services. I don't even know why I looked there - -
THE FIX at least for me..
Click Start button, type "services" into the search program and files box. This brings up a list in the menu, select Services. This should open a list of local services on your system.., Find 'Bluetooth Service" and make sure it has started, right click and set to 'automatic' (mine was already set), Select "Bluetooth Support Service" and start, set to automatic (mine was set on manual) --
This fixed my issue, hopefully yours as well..

I have an Asus laptop computer with Windows 7 and when I turn it on I get this message, "error loading operating system." Just those white letters on a black screen, nothing else. I have had the computer for about a year and a half, and have not recently loaded anything new onto it.
The only thing I have found I can do is press F2 when the Asus logo pops up and this takes me to BIOS setup utility.

I have been trying all day to dual boot using the tutorial and no success.
I have windows 7 install on my computer. I want to have windows xp.
Now I have shrink my hard drive so I have 2 partitions now. Ok the problem is When I boot xp I goto install on D:/ the new partition it then copies all the files to that hard drive all good so then it wants to restart which is normal.
Then When it reboots it will say error loading operating system or just nothing.
Then I cant even Run windows 7 I have to delete that partition on windows xp and then put windows 7 and repair startup and Im back on again. It has to do something with the boot loader or something because I reckon Its trying to do start windows 7 but there is xp trying to install it self. Im not sure but I think I have tried every idea.

So I tried installing Windows XP Professional alongside my existing Windows 7 Home Premium as a dual boot, but when my PC restarted following XP's text-based installation phase, I got the annoying "Error loading operating system error. I've tried:
- Using the Windows 7 Startup Recovery feature from the Windows 7 DVD, but it didn't work.
- Deleting the incomplete XP partition. That hasn't worked either.
- Using the Windows XP CD to enter Recovery Console and run fixmbr. Unfortunately it asks me to log into my Windows 7 installation using the Administrator password, which is wrong every time I enter it. So I can't do that either.

I am having a problem with Windows 7 64-bit loading the desktop, I get and error message that goes some thing like:
AsusSetup
C:userslucappdataXXXXXXXXXXXX.inf is lost!
I believe it is related to the chipset driver. I have already reinstalled all of the others but the chipset driver setup app will not run properly. If I run the old one it just prompts for a restart and doesn't do anything, if I run the new one it just claims I am using an unsupported OS. Is there any way to remove the chipset driver from the device manager or some other location? I am unsure of which one it is. I'll try to get a screenshot next time.
This issue just popped up out of nowhere it was running fine one day and the next this.

i5 3570K
Corsair H100
Asus Sabertooth Z77

My daughter's Sony VAIO PCG-71911M running windows 7 is suffering from the BSOD within seconds of entering her windows password. The blue screen is all gibberish to me but Bad_Pool_Header appears as the error at the top of the screen on most occassions.
I am able to boot using Safe Mode and Networking and the laptop appears to be very stable when this option is selected.
Through Safe Mode I have attempted system restores which allow me to get past the windows password stage on a normal boot. But I then get error messages and network connectivity is unavailable when i then reboot I end up with the BSOD issue again.

Done all the windows updates and changed the device installation settings. How do get device stage to work again?

I had to mess about getting rid of the virus but it left residual files that were causing me even more problems. One of those files, veawi.sys, refused to go away as everytime i tried to delete it i would get a message stating that "a device attached to the system is not working" or something along that line.
Anyway, i tried to get rid of it by installing Windows XP to a USB hard drive that i have lying around so that i could use the command prompt to delete the file from the windowssystem32drivers directory. That didn't work as i would get the message "NTLDR is missing" and my Windows 7 installation wouldn't boot either as i'd get the message "Error loading operating system". To add insult to injury i found, after using the installion disc for Windows 7, that i could have just used the command prompt in the repair section of the disc which allowed me to get rid of the culprit file.
I've tried running the startup repair from the Windows 7 disc and it states that there are no errors found. For the first time in ages i'm stuck and i get the feeling that i'm going to have to reinstall Windows 7 all over again.

I checked the forums and could not find my specific issue.
The other day, I successfully installed Windows 7 Ultimate (full version, clean install) on my primary "C" partition and everything worked. Now, I believe I have a corrupt OS. When I attempt to boot normally, I receive an "Error loading operating sytem" message. The Windows 7 installation CD is detected, and begins booting, but following the "loading Windows" screen no options are displayed.
Here is what I did to cause this issue:
-I had an old external drive not compatible with Windows 7, so I decided to try and install XP onto a secondary partition.
-In order to create this partition during the installation, I deleted my "E" partition which I had previously locked with BitLocker. I left my "C" partition (System Rese) and "D" partition (with Windows 7) in tact.
-I began installing Windows XP. Upon reboot, I received my first "Operating SYstem Not Deteced" error.
-I tried booting from my WIndows 7 CD to see what was going on, but following the boot from the CD, the installation program stpped running before any options were displayed. This occured after the "Starting windows" message was displayed.
-I tried booting from the Windows XP install CD. This CD boot properly. I deleted the partition I had attempted to install XP on.
-I tried booting normally, and "Operating SYstem Not Deteced"
-I tried booting from the WIndows 7 CD again and "Operating SYstem Not Deteced"
At this point, I am considering loading from the XP CD and deleting all partions with hopes for a fresh Windows 7 installation.
Anything else I should try before deleting my partitions?
