I just uninstalled ubuntu 10.10 and it worked fine but now when i rebooted I get an error saying:error: no such partition grub rescue>
I know that you can fix this by using a windows 7 disk and booting from that but i don't have my windows 7 disk because it came on my computer. Is there any way I can fix this error without a windows 7 disk?

I dual boot ubuntu/BTU bistro and win 7. They are all on different partitions. I had an extra partition for storage that I changed the file system so it could be read. Doing this I believe changed the order of my drives. Now on boot I get "unknown filesystem" grub rescue. I cannot load the bios or boot from cd.

Ok so I have Windows 7 and Ubuntu desktop installed on my HDD. I used gparted and deleted my ubuntu partition and set it NTFS. But I forgot about the GRUB loader. Now when I boot up, I get the "error 22".
Anyways, how do I set it so I can just boot Windows 7?
Also! I'm on a netbook so it has to be a USB method.

I have a Dell XPS 430 that came with Windows Vista and a Windows 7 upgrade disk. I set up my main hard drive with Windows 7 on one partition, Linux on another partition, and a third partition for storage. I recently needed more space for Windows, and no longer needed Linux, so using the Windows 7 disk manager I deleted the Linux partition and extended the Win partition using the newly unallocated space.
Upon restarting my machine, I am no longer able to boot into windows but instead am presented with the message:
GRUB Loading, please wait...
Error 22
I have a Windows 7 disk that I am using to access the repair utility, which I have run countless times. I have tried severel of the tutorials to rebuild BCD and FixMBR, etc etc. Frankly I am getting lost in all the commands and not even sure what does what anymore!

I am thinking about dual-booting my system with Windows 7 as the main OS, and linux ubuntu as a secondary. I have a few questions:
1. How much space should I leave for ubuntu's partition?
2. How do I make a swap partition (or whatever it is called, for swapping files between OS's)?
3. Can I set it up to automatically boot into windows unless I am holding down a specific key, or something similar?
BTW, my HDD is ~500gb, but my current (factory) windows partition is 450gb.

I have a small query about this whole partitioning business. I'm trying to set up a partition so I can dual-boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu.
My computer came with a Dell Recovery partition and an OEM partition as well as the main C: drive, which are all primaries. I've created a new logical drive, which I've called Z:, with the idea being to install the Linux OS in that chunk of the drive.
My first question: First up, I've formatted it as "exFAT" - is this the same as FAT32?
Next question: can I divide this 'Z' into smaller chunks with different formats, or do they all have to be the same format? I was hoping to be able to format a small bit of the drive into a Linux file-system so that both OSs can be kept entirely separate from each other, but leave the bulk of it as FAT so that I can see my files with both OSs. If this is not possible, what would be the best way to achieve the desired result?

I have a Samsung N120 Netbook that came with Windows XP. I tried to run Linux Mint as a 2nd operating system, but I kept getting errors and I became frustrated with it. Ever since then I have only used XP, but every time the computer starts up it goes into Grub and I have to choose to enter XP. Basically what I am looking to do is remove all traces of Mint and Grub and I suppose XP for that matter and upgrade to Windows 7. What is the best way to do that considering I have a netbook which does not have a CD/DVD drive?

I installed Ubuntu on a older Toshiba laptop. When I boot up it asks me to select either Windows 7 or Ubuntu. I want to get rid of the Ubuntu disk partition and give that 2.9 GB space to my primary hard drive. I go into compmgmt.msc but I can't execute any commands on that disk partition.

The first time...well, was a failure on my part. Got the error screen upon reboot because the MBR was still looking for Ubuntu when it wasn't there. The second time I ran EasyBCD and it said Windows 7 was my only entry in the bootloader. Then I deleted my Ubuntu partition and when rebooting, I got the same GRUB error screen. I have a netbook so I don't have a Windows disk. I do have a USB drive if that helps.

I'm currently downloading it & spent the weekend creating a dual boot XP/Ubuntu. I don't want to mess up my system, so can I install 7 into a flash drive (usb)?
Other than that, if I created a new partition through gparted and booted from the 7 iso disk, would my GRUB notice this & respond?

Basically, my netbook doesn't recognize any networks despite the fact that my other netbook, laptop and iMac all do recognize the networks in the area and connect to my network without a problem. I have already tried resetting the router and all that kind of stuff. In the lower right-hand corner of the screen, where the network strength icon is, there is just a red 'X' signifying that there are no available networks. Sometimes, upon restarting the computer, it does recognize that there are networks (strength icon has the gold dot in the middle), but when I try to join my network, it says that it is unable to. Then the weird stuff happens:

I currently run Ubuntu as the sole OS on my Laptop. Using a G-Parted live CD I partitioned half of my disk space, the one half dedicated to running Ubuntu and the other half to Windows 7. I downloaded a torrent of Windows 7, one that I have used before with success (so one that I trust) and burned it to a DVD-RW at the slowest burning speed possible. I booted Windows 7 through the DVD and began to do a clean install of Windows 7 on this one Partition that I left completely empty for the new OS. Everything runs smoothly and I go through the set-up until suddenly the installation hangs at 0% when 'Expanding Windows Files'.

So I am having a problem and I am hoping that someone can help. On my desktop I recently installed Win7 on a 1TB internal drive. I installed it on separate drive then I had my original WinXP32 installed. So I could test out Win7 before fully transferring over. Well it worked just fine for that last 2 months and I finally decided to get ride on my older WinXP32 OS and run Ubuntu 9.10 on that drive.
After installing Ubuntu on my old WinXP drive (that was the original drive on my PC) I no longer can run Win7 I just get this Error (Grub Error 17) when I try to boot my system, but I can still run Ubuntu. If there is anyone out there that could give me some advice on how to get my Win7 OS to run again I would love some advice.

I am considering getting a netbook through an online company and with it would have installed 2gb memory, 500gb hdd and Win 7 32 bit Home Premium. For various reasons (accessing older hardware on the go etc...) I want to be able to dual boot from XP Pro (I have like 3 unused retail licenses) and the 7 home premium 32 bit that I might also upgrade later. Netbook doesn't come with media. Is there a way to do this? I have an upgrade disc that came with my desktop PC but, it is 64 bit.

I just installed Ubuntu to make my computer dual boot with Windows 7. When the option in Ubuntu came up to install it along Windows 7, I selected it. Well, after the install my monitor pops up a box saying "Out of Range" and nothing comes up, then Ubuntu boots. I never get the option to boot Win7. If I hit a button while the monitor is out of range, nothing boots.
