I installed Windows 8. Then created a new partition ad installed Ubuntu on it.But now if I want to select Windows 8 in Grub, it waits a couple of seconds and then restarts Grub. [URL]how to get Win8(Consumer Preview) working again?
View 1 RepliesOk so I have Windows 7 and Ubuntu desktop installed on my HDD. I used gparted and deleted my ubuntu partition and set it NTFS. But I forgot about the GRUB loader. Now when I boot up, I get the "error 22".
Anyways, how do I set it so I can just boot Windows 7?
Also! I'm on a netbook so it has to be a USB method.
i hav hp mini netbook and used to dual book ubuntu and windows 7, i shrinked some partitions to make swap partition for ubuntu., but after restarting netbook error shows" grub rescue no such partition" ,, after this i tested system memory and hard disk and get 100 % ok,, but when i use bootable flash drive to install Windows 7, the setup window is not loaded, only loading and loading..., what may cause this?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my HP Mini 110-1116NR, then deleted the partitions that had Ubuntu on them, not knowing that Ubuntu comes with GRUB2, and sets itself as the default boot for that system. Now that GRUB2 is not installed, since it was on my only HDD, it looks for the GRUB2 partition, which does not exist.

Later installed Ubuntu 10.10 inside Windows 7 and upgraded it to 11.04.After that Accidentally I have formatted Windows XP drive from Ubuntu. I installed XP again to the same drive. I tried to repair Windows 7 and it worked fine, but the problem is I can boot only Windows 7. I have used BCDEdit tool to add entry to boot menu. This also worked fine that I am able to boot both Windows 7 & Windows XP.Now I want to boot Ubuntu 11.04 also using already installed partition.I don't want install it again(as I have to update it to 11.04 again).I have Windows XP in C drive, Windows 7 in D drive and Ubuntu 11.04 in E drive.

(though i have installed it on two harddrives on the same test bench.

a requireds cd/dvd is missing. if you have a floppy disc, CD,DVD or flash USB drive, please insert it now.
Note: if you have the windows installation disc inside you can safely remove it now.
I have spent over 6 hours on my own trying various BIOS settings and what not, but cannot figure this thing out.I used to have an old HP build with "market" RAM and GPU and SSD.
Recently got an eVGA motherboard, and new GPU, and when I install Win7 Pro thru my installation disc, it says 'select the driver to be installed'. So, I put all the eVGA motherboard drivers and SATA drivers on a thumb drive, hooked it up to the back of my computer, tried to install from the drivers available, and then it said that the hardware was not detected on my machine...
Then I tried my wife's Win7 disc, thinking that my disc was corrupted. Same BS. I am so frustrated.I have tried loading my SSD both as IDE and AHCI, and same issue.
point me in the right direction??? I don't mind wiping my drives, I just want to use my damn computer.

Oh, and, EVGA was useless when I called their support team. So was Microsoft.
I think MBR is the bootloader if not then whatever it is the ideais not havin to install GRUB.

I installed a legitimate upgrade of Windows 7 on the C: drive over XP and put it in the new computer. Now, it won't start, and startup repair does nothing. Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the problem.
I am then told to insert my installation CD, reboot, and follow some steps. There is one problem: I do not have an installation CD. I upgraded my erratic copy of Windows Vista to 7 (Premium 32bit I believe) last year as part of the $30 upgrade for students program, and did so online. I tried using friends' installation disks of various editions to no avail, and when I boot directly from the disks it either gives me the option to reinstall or gives me the same error message (0xc0000001, BootBCD). I tried to track down my purchase information, but the email address I used to make the purchase no longer exists and my online banking service doesn't keep records past 6 months (I made the upgrade roughly a year ago). My question is, what can I do to fix this? Do I have to reinstall and lose all my data, is there a problem with the computer itself (this is not the first OS to be bucked off, it rejected Vista last May), or can I get what I need to run a system repair somehow?
Edit: Forgot to mention, the only software change I have made in the last few weeks is uninstalling Firefox and installing Chrome, and I don't think that would be the issue.

I have a Samsung N120 Netbook that came with Windows XP. I tried to run Linux Mint as a 2nd operating system, but I kept getting errors and I became frustrated with it. Ever since then I have only used XP, but every time the computer starts up it goes into Grub and I have to choose to enter XP. Basically what I am looking to do is remove all traces of Mint and Grub and I suppose XP for that matter and upgrade to Windows 7. What is the best way to do that considering I have a netbook which does not have a CD/DVD drive?

My computer now loads into Grub loader. All is well, its just now I want to get rid of Linux. (I will install it on desktop and mess around with it there.) I wanted to know how to get rid of the Grub loader.
I googled it and found that you can restore the windows (didn't find anything for windows 7) bootloader using the installation disk and going into repair. The instructions however were all for windows xp and few for vista. I want to know if it will work for Windows 7. I don't have a windows 7 DVD. I have a Windows 7 professional upgrade disk 64 bit. My Vista came pre loaded on the laptop, and i have recovery disks for it. Will I be able to do it from the Windows 7 upgrade disk.
I have a Dell XPS 430 that came with Windows Vista and a Windows 7 upgrade disk. I set up my main hard drive with Windows 7 on one partition, Linux on another partition, and a third partition for storage. I recently needed more space for Windows, and no longer needed Linux, so using the Windows 7 disk manager I deleted the Linux partition and extended the Win partition using the newly unallocated space.
Upon restarting my machine, I am no longer able to boot into windows but instead am presented with the message:

I have a Windows 7 disk that I am using to access the repair utility, which I have run countless times. I have tried severel of the tutorials to rebuild BCD and FixMBR, etc etc. Frankly I am getting lost in all the commands and not even sure what does what anymore!
I am currently having problems getting Malwarebytes AntiMalware to function as I want it to and so a possible fix was to uninstall and reinstall. I did this and know CCleaner shows an InnoSetup program that also installed itself as autostart. I've found it is some old type of program installer, but I've never had it, and don't want it.

I installed it on separate drive then I had my original WinXP32 installed. So I could test out Win7 before fully transferring over. Well it worked just fine for that last 2 months and I finally decided to get ride on my older WinXP32 OS and run Ubuntu 9.10 on that drive.
After installing Ubuntu on my old WinXP drive (that was the original drive on my PC) I no longer can run Win7 I just get this Error (Grub Error 17) when I try to boot my system, but I can still run Ubuntu. If there is anyone out there that could give me some advice on how to get my Win7 OS to run again I would love some advice.

i got a netbook recently with windows 7 installed, and found this free software "ubuntu" now am stuck with the "Grub" bootloader.
