Share Windows Fax & Scan With Homegroup In Windows 7 Pro X64 SP1?
Oct 30, 2011
I am a dummy when it comes to networking. However, I have successfully setup homegroup with 4 computers with a shared printer at my boss's office.I also have a workstation and 2 laptops running Windows 7 Pro SP1 that I would like to send faxes with. What I want to do is to install a 56k fax/modem (PCI or USB?) on the workstation and share the fax with the 2 laptops. Is fax sharing possible through homegroup? If not how can I share the fax with the 2 other laptops
I have no idea why microsoft does such simple things through the ass, maybe to make people go crazy. Here's the problem:
I have wifi network setup, homegroup with my blueray dvd player, xbox 360, 3 other computers (all windows 7). on homegroup options, I check marked all options, video, music, docs etc to be shared, and also to be streamed.
I made 3-4 folders in my drive (f) to put all my stuff in there that I wanted to share, but when I right click either of the folders and go to "share with" they all are set to "nobody" and when I click "sharewith homegroup" at buttom of screen something blinks as if another screen opened for a second- but nothing changes, it stayes on "nobody". Nothing fixed this. Not replacing securities, not remaking homegroup, I mean i've tried 100 different things and nothing seems to work.
Funny thing, on my xbox/dvd player - 2 of these folders are visable and I can play files in them, although they are both set to "nobody" as well. But others aren't.
I have started a homegroup on my PC but I can`t see anything on my laptop to join to, Is there any thing I`m Missing ? I`m Using an ADSL modem-router And I can ping both computers from each other. also I`m Using nod32 as my antivirous-firewall and I even tried creating a homegroup when the firewall was disabled but it didn`t work.
Tonight discovered that my homegroup randomly and suddenly ceased to work, after working previously with no problems. After hours spent of my life I'm able to now leave the homegroup and start a new one, however I have a problem that continues to exist. On the Change Homegroup Settings page, underneath where it says "Share libraries and printers", I select ALL boxes (Pictures, Music, Videos, Printers, Documents), and hit "Save Changes" at the bottom - yet the changes are never saved. It's as if I've never selected them. The screen immediately exits me out after I hit "Save Changes", and when I re-enter the screen, all the boxes except "Printer" are blank again. This is the screen I'm referring to
I have a 128GB SSD for booting and games and a 1tb hard drive for storage. Because my OS is on my boot drive, the location for my videos folder is on the boot drive and I don't want to store my movies on my boot drive because of space constraints. I'm using homegroup to stream movies to my mother's computer. Is there any way I can stream videos from a folder in my storage drive or any alternative method for changing the root destination of the videos folder in my C drive?
I installed Windows 7 on my laptop, and I also have a desktop running Windows 7. I am trying to connect my laptop to my homegroup with the password for my homegroup, but my desktop will not reveal it. Is there any other place that I can find it?
I have an issue which I can't find anything obvious on.I have 4 Windows 7 machines, 1 x W7 Pro, 2 x W7 Home Premium & 1 x W7 Starter all in the same Homegroup. The W7 Pro machine can see all the others under Homegroup in Windows ExplorerAll 3 of the others can see each other in the same way but the W7 Pro machine isn't listedThe 3 others can access the Shares on the W7 Pro Machine by going to Network rather than Homegroup in Windows Explorer.
I just got my laptop from service. It is a Sony Vaio They supposedly restored my computer to factory setting but I can't update my computer.
The bar to the left is red and i see a red shield with a white x and it says most recent checks for updates: never
updates were installed: never i go to installed programs and nothing has been installed since early 2010.
It's like whenever i try to click check for updates button it's like something is blocking it from connecting and scanning is the best way I can explain it. I desperately need help to update all my software and security patches etc
I just got my laptop from service (they replaced a new hard drive and installed windows 7). It is a Sony Vaio.i own it now but it's a slightly used rent-to-own type of deal so no windows dvd or system restore or anything. They supposedly restored my computer to factory setting but I can't update my computer. I desperately need help to update all my software and security patches etc.I found something online where it says to type services.msc and stop it and go to c/windows/software distribution and delete the files and then start the service so then windows updates still won't scan (windows 7)....says service is not running but it is.
I have an external usb hard drive (2tb I think) that I ran Microsoft scan disk on I (right click the drive in my computer then tools etc.)Option to automatically fix errors was checked. Before the scan I could access the drive and files but was having problems with a certain program so I decided to run the scan. It said it found errors and fixed them from what I saw it didn't look like it recovered any corrupt data files but must of fixed something else. Now it says I need to format the drive I said NO but now it just hangs if I try to open the drive right click on the drive etc. What is the best way to save my data from getting lost?
After the IE9 install and a restart the Windows Scan and Fax program is no where to be found. It'snot in the programs list or in the windows turn on or off list.
I'm running Windows 7 and have activated the Windows Fax & Scan software. The modem Verizon USB760 is our fax modem. When the software was initially activated, outgoing faxes were sent fine. Recently, it's stopped working completely. Only the coverpage is sent, the fax job fails and retries as many times as I have it configured or until I delete the fax job. I've tried typing directly into the section for page 2 of the fax, and I've tried attaching pdf or txt files with the same incomplete result. I can view the complete fax in the outbound box.
If I try to grab text in a website window and move the mouse down while keeping the mouse Left button depress, the window will not scroll upward. I have to manually press the down arrow key to continue my text grab or selection. Can this be reversed?
We used to use ZetaFax, I'm told. I'm new to the company. We no longer use ZetaFax. Since bringing in Windows Vista Business and Windows 7 Pro computers, and Windows 2008 Server, we now use Windows Fax and Scan.We use Fax Server on the server with quad port RocketModems installed. Now, here's the problem. Some of our employees are having problems using Windows Fax and Scan. The way they use faxing is by finding the file (usually an Adobe Acrobat pdf), open it and then go to the Fax printer. This then auto faxes the document using Windows Fax and Scan. For most of our employees, this works fine. But, suddenly for some it does not work. When I visit the ones who can't fax, I open Windows Fax and Scan and try to launch it. It does not launch. On some of the computers, the user gets a message that the format must be tif. For others, they get a message saying that they can not access to the document folder.I'd like to remove Windows Fax and Scan on these computers and try to reinstall it and see what happens. How can I do that?
I can't complete a fax in windows fax and scan it will send maybe 2 pages of a 4 page fax and then shut down with a fatal error message. I'm running windows 7/64 bit and using an older Agere V.92 ver. 8.36 internal modem that I removed from my 10 year old HP desktop computer and installed it into my new emachine ( Acer ) ET1352G-03W. The modem is updated with the current drivers as shown in device manager but I don't know if that is enough. If you think the modem is the problem what modem should I buy? I can connect just fine but it just won't complete sending all pages that I loaded..
As reported elsewhere, I had some issues with my Win 7 installation which involved more fiddling than needed but most everything is working again. Why more than needed? In the list of possible solutions, I was given the one that fixed the big problem last. C'est la vie. Now, I get to fiddle with fixing little problems. The latest is that Windows Fax and Scan are no longer workingI have a modem in my computer solely for when I send faxes. With the way that they keep eliminating slots on motherboards, I don't know what I'll do when I upgrade but that's neither here nor there. Back to the story.
A couple weeks ago, I sent a fax without any issues. Today, I needed to send one and Window Fax and Scan couldn't find the modem. When I click on "Connect to a fax modem" I get "an error occured. Please try the operation later."I opened a console and sent some AT commands to the modem and it responded. Off hook, on hook, dial. It is set as COM 3. I do have a Bluetooth dongle that is COM 6.Before Win 7, I used WinFax Pro. I had been using WinFax for years and years and never had a problem. However, WinFax Pro doesn't work with Win 7. One last question. When I started up WFS, it no longer shows my previously sent faxes. Where are those hidden?
Is their anyway I can retrieve this program I may have inadvertently deleted this program or it may have never been installed on my compputer in the first place.
I use printer HP PSC 2355 all-in-one. Lately I changed my computer which now uses Windows 7. Ever since, the scan mode of the printer does not function (I receive a message "No scan options" ). Then, I found out that I can use Windows Fax and Scan. However, I cannot use it for scanning multiple pages. I am now in an awkward situation but I would not like to change my printer yet. Therefore, could you advise me if (a) I could do something with the printer to enable scanning as before? how I could scan multiple pages in one file using the Windows Fax and Scan.
How can I stop Windows from asking whether I want to scan and fix an external drive, whenever I turn on that external drive. It gives me the choice to scan and fix or continue without scanning. The annoyance is that when I turn on the external drive, I may be doing something else and the notification will pop up or rather pop under all the other programs and windows I may have open and won't see the notification until I click on the taskbar and Windows Explorer is waiting for some response
Windows Fax & Scan program will not recognize my scanner when I try to scan a document to fax. I just installed an external modem to send faxes using the Windows Fax & Scan program, which BTW worked fine when I typed a document and faxed it. If I try to use the Scan feature instead, I get an error window telling me that no scanner was detected and to check my connections. My scanner, which is a Canon 8400F with the Windows 7 64-Bit drivers, works fine on it's own. I am having no luck making it function with the Windows Fax & Scan program.
The scan function of my Cannon MX330 under Windows 7 is not reconized.I have installed several times the driver for Windows 7 (64 bits) from the Cannon website without any results.
I cannot find fax and scan on windows 7 64. I have done the following:
- No program in the program list - Control panel/programs and Features/Turn windows features on and off/print document services/ticked fax and scan, OK restart.
Still no joy. Is it possible it is not in my windows 7 64 program?
