Won't Let To Share Files In Homegroup
Jan 26, 2011
I have no idea why microsoft does such simple things through the ass, maybe to make people go crazy. Here's the problem:
I have wifi network setup, homegroup with my blueray dvd player, xbox 360, 3 other computers (all windows 7). on homegroup options, I check marked all options, video, music, docs etc to be shared, and also to be streamed.
I made 3-4 folders in my drive (f) to put all my stuff in there that I wanted to share, but when I right click either of the folders and go to "share with" they all are set to "nobody" and when I click "sharewith homegroup" at buttom of screen something blinks as if another screen opened for a second- but nothing changes, it stayes on "nobody". Nothing fixed this. Not replacing securities, not remaking homegroup, I mean i've tried 100 different things and nothing seems to work.
Funny thing, on my xbox/dvd player - 2 of these folders are visable and I can play files in them, although they are both set to "nobody" as well. But others aren't.

I have a 128GB SSD for booting and games and a 1tb hard drive for storage. Because my OS is on my boot drive, the location for my videos folder is on the boot drive and I don't want to store my movies on my boot drive because of space constraints. I'm using homegroup to stream movies to my mother's computer. Is there any way I can stream videos from a folder in my storage drive or any alternative method for changing the root destination of the videos folder in my C drive?

Tonight discovered that my homegroup randomly and suddenly ceased to work, after working previously with no problems. After hours spent of my life I'm able to now leave the homegroup and start a new one, however I have a problem that continues to exist. On the Change Homegroup Settings page, underneath where it says "Share libraries and printers", I select ALL boxes (Pictures, Music, Videos, Printers, Documents), and hit "Save Changes" at the bottom - yet the changes are never saved. It's as if I've never selected them. The screen immediately exits me out after I hit "Save Changes", and when I re-enter the screen, all the boxes except "Printer" are blank again. This is the screen I'm referring to

I am a dummy when it comes to networking. However, I have successfully setup homegroup with 4 computers with a shared printer at my boss's office.I also have a workstation and 2 laptops running Windows 7 Pro SP1 that I would like to send faxes with. What I want to do is to install a 56k fax/modem (PCI or USB?) on the workstation and share the fax with the 2 laptops. Is fax sharing possible through homegroup? If not how can I share the fax with the 2 other laptops

I have two computers with Windows 7 64 bit set up as part of a Homegroup. I can see the computers from each machine and even browse files/directories. However, when I try to cut and paste or drag-n-drop files from one machine to another one machine freezes and requires the reset button to restart the machine.
It is only one machine that freezes, but it consistently freezes every time I attempt a file transfer. The computer that freezes is connected wirelessly to the network. The other computer is wired to the router. I am stumped. I have tried all new drivers, latest bios, etc.

My computer in question is a Toshiba L455-S5980 running Windows 7
Home Premium.
I have a wireless network with a Linksys WRT160N router connected to a
Sony desktop running XP MCE(2005). In addition, I have another Toshiba
laptop running XP Home Edition.
With the new Windows 7 laptop in the Network I can see all 3 computers, as well
as access files sharing in both the XP computers. However, I cannot access any of
the Win 7 files from the XP computers.
When I go to Network and click on Win 7 name it shows two folders as being shared. Even though one folder indicates "Share" when I Right click on it and go to "Share with" it has a lock icon beside "Nobody" and I cannot change it to Homegroup Read/Write etc. The other folder "Share with" Advanced sharing and I do not know what further to do in ths regards.
The XP computers Workgroup name is MSHOME; however the Win 7 laptop was
named WORKGROUP by default, but I changed this name to MHOME where all 3
computers now have the same Workgroup name, If anyone can assist me in establishing file sharing of the Win 7 .

Having difficulty with a homegroup and file sharing: one desktop PC with the family's main documents (which are on a separate drive to the system) and two laptops which need to access those documents. I've got them all seeing each other, and they can see the folders in the drive, but when I try to add files or rename files, it tells me that I need permission. I've gone through the advance settings to make sure the correct permission is selected, they all have the same workgroup name and different computer names. Sharing the printer attached to the desktop is fine.

I have my 2 PC's networked in a Homegroup. 1 is running Win 7 Home Premium 64, the other Win 7 Ultimate 32. I want to write to the Program Files folder on the 32 bit system from the Program Files (x86) folder on the 64 bit system. All other read/write operations between these 2 systems are succeeding. I have set up full permissions on both Program Files folders exactly as with other folders: Properties > Sharing > Advanced Sharing > Share this folder > Permissions > Full Control for "Everyone". I suspect UAC may be intervening. Is there any way to defeat this? My final objective is to automate synchronization between a few selected areas in these Program Files using my backup utility, SyncBackSE. It kept failing based on access denied, so I tried to drag & drop manually via windows explorer, and this is also not allowed. don't focus on questions about SyncBackSE - I am seeking help getting permission to move & change files via explorer.

I have been unable to share files. Not only between two computers both running Windows 7, which I'm trying to sync some files in (OneNote), but I can't even change the properties.
I've tried everything, from going into advances sharing settings in the drive and giving full permission, to just the basic right clicking on the file, clicking Share With, and trying to click Homegroup, or going into specific people, and no matter what, it just keeps saying Nobody, with the lock icon next to it.I have gone into the firewall and made sure that's not an issue...it just seems that no matter what, Windows just will not allow me to share ANY files in my documents folders.

I was wondering if it's possible to share files and/or folders over the internet with your friend? By sharing I mean both people accessing the same folders and when someone edits something, the same thing happens on the other side. I know this is possible over the same LAN network, but what I want to know if this is possible if you aren't in the same network.

I was trying to get my Western Digital Live tv player to access my video files but I think windows wont allow it to view them.I followed the instructions for the live tv player to get the files to be shared but they don't show up in the folder when browsing the files on the live tv player menuit's a known issue a lot of people are having on western digital's forum.[URL]...chapter 6 page 35 is where it shows how to get folders and files to be shared but no one on any windows machine can get it to work.from xp to 7 the folders show up blank(empty) in the browser. however if I turn on media streaming in windows 7 I can access all my files with my media player. even though the instructions says that setting is for connecting the player to other DLNA protocol devices. but that's the only way I can access my stuff on my computer. the instructions suggest we use the "network share" route instead. but no one can get it to work.I was wondering if there is a setting in windows that needs to be adressed other than what western digital's instructions tell us to do.I know it's asking a lot out of you guys/gals if you don't have one or care about it, but I just don't understand windows 7 sharing enough to get it to work.

I'm using a desktop running Windows 7 (soon to be 8) Ultimate. My target computer is a laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium.
If I download a file, is it possible for me to set a download destination directly to the laptop if I initiate the download from the desktop? The computers will be on the same network and part of a Homegroup (if that matters). I'd like to create a folder on the desktop screen of the laptop, and have the files end up there.
Alternatively, I suppose I could have the file download to the desktop computer, and then I could wirelessly transfer it over via the Homegroups, but moving 1-2GB files would probably suck bandwidth and increase system resources on my end.
EDIT: Is this also possible with a second desktop computer as well? (One primary client, and two satellite computers).

I have a network share set up with everything working. My roommates can see, read, and download files from me, and my WDTV Live can play back music, videos, etc. These folders that are shared have Security settings with the user "Everyone" with Read & execute, List folder contents, and Read set to "Allow". The problem I'm having is when I add new files to a folder that is shared; it doesn't inherit this "Everyone" username permission to it's Security tab.
