I'm trying to run a game from a floppy disk that I used on Windows 95 on Windows 7. But I get an error message saying its not compatible with my version of windows. Any ideas on how I can make it work?
Answer:-
Set up a virtual machine of Windows 98 (preferably 98 SE) using something like VirtualBox (ensure you have a copy of Windows 98 handy as well...). Install and play from there.
I've got Silent Service 2 on 2x floppy disks. The problem I have is when I load the disks into the drive, it tells me nothing is there and to format the disks??I've tried to find a way round this, but keep getting sent to DOS Box. Is there anyway to get the game onto the Hard Drive and run the game without DOS Box??
I've been noticing after re-installing Win 7 that I get random floppy drive seeks and the hard drive light flashes like crazy and then everything is fine again.I have Clamwin AV,Spyware Blaster and Spybot S&D installed, but that's it,no Windows Defender or Essentials AV.Any ideas what causes this? It's a minor annoyance, but I just want to make sure it's not damaging anything. Also would Readyboost help me? I've got 2 gigs dual channel PC3200 ram(or I could go with 2.5 gig single channel PC2700)and a P4 at 3 gig until I can afford to upgrade my comp. This is my first post in quite awhile so I hope this is in the right place
I've got a floppy drive A: installed on my computer, but of-course, i don't have no floppy drive, how do i get rid of this problem (im using windows 7 RC).
Answer:-
Go into your BIOS and set it to disable the floppy controller. The BIOS will tell Windows (any version of Windows) that a floppy drive is present, even if none is hooked up, if the floppy controller is enabled.
The bios is detecting all of them but Windows 7 is not. The floppy's power is on all the time and it is enabled in the bios. My 3rd hard drive is not being detected, however I did delete some windows 7 files and it was working before that. And I have no idea about my dvd drive. My other drive is working though.
I require a 3.5 inch floppy drive on my computer. However, whenever I select it in explorer, it starts to read the disk, then says it's not formatted, or puts up a please insert disk notice.
If your not going to use a Floppy Drive in your Computer you can disable it and ger rid of the Floppy Drive icon that sits in my computer.
Right click on my computer and select properties. In the hardware tab select 'Device Manager'. In the device manager there should be an expandable menu labelled 'Floppy disk controllers', expand this and you should see something like 'Standard floppy disk controller' right click on this and click disable. If at some time you do need to use a Floppy Drive you can re-able it.
I have a WDC USB floppy drive. One day day ago when i connected my floppy to PC it worked. When i connected it to other computer it not worked and then when i connected it to my PC again it's not working. When i connect floppy it says nothing. I tried to update disk drivers with Computer Management and it says that my drivers are up to date. I tried to uninstall drivers and than install it again and that's not working. BIOS and Computer Management can see the floppy drive, but Win Explorer can't see floppy. What should i do to access my floppy and my files?
For some reason my USB floppy drive is not found or recognized in Win 7 64 bit, it was working but not anymore. Can't find it in Computer Management-Disk Management but it is listed in Devices and shows no conflicts.
Has anyone else had trouble using a USB floppy drive in Windows 7? The drive does not appear in My Computer, I have tried troubleshooting the device, uninstalling it and re-installing it and trying to install other drivers to resolve the issue (windows will not accept others as it already has the best driver apparently...). I'm at a loss now I have even tried using drivermax to correct the problem but even that does not recognise the device. To ensure it wasn't an issue with the Floppy drive itself I have even tried using another, with the same result.
for some unknown reason my Floppy drive runs very, very slow on 64bit Windows 7. Takes about a minute to open an office XL file, and longer to close it... a lot longer. Even after the file is closed, the floppy light is still on an clicking, like it's reading the disc still. The drive itself is OK. I've got XP Pro on the same PC and the floppy is like lightning on XP. Also tried updating drivers, but it says it's got the best drivers available, and that it's working OK. So what the heck is it?
My Floppy Drive has the drive letter assignment (A). I would rather have it be (F). The traditional way to change drive letters is under disk management on right-click of My Computer. However, Floppy drives are not visible in the list. How can I change the letter?
I was having no problems with my Windows 7 X64 bit till I plugged in a USB floppy and copied some photos to the hard drive. The windows portion of the boot went to approx 5 times what it was. I have disabled all the boot devices except the hard drive and have uninstalled the driver that Windows 7 installed when I plugged in the floppy.Runs fine after the boot.
I am installing Windows 7 pro 32 bit on a machine with no floppy drive. The mobo is Asus p5b and intel e6600 core 2 duo cpu.how can i get raid drivers on to machine without floppy drive.can i use usb pendrive? or can i install driver after i have installed Windows 7 pro?
I an unable to make my floppy drive work on my new computer with windows 7 64 bit. I know there is a card made in England named Catweasel that is supposed to do the job, but they are hard to come by.
All right, so I recently bought a new computer (it was refurbished)
I've done a lot of tweaking on it already, I installed a new video card and put in a new power supply unit. I am also dualbooting into both Windows 7 and Ubuntu 11.04. On my windows 7 boot, I installed oblivion. Fully installed it on the first try, then after a small issue concerning mods, I had to re-install. It reinstalled fine, but then I realized that I had installed it overtop all the files from the mods (in C:/.../oblivon). So I had to reinstall again. No big deal I though. Well! Now it is giving me a ton of problems.
During the install it gives me the error 0x80070017 and says it can't install. I looked up the error on google and it says that it's data corruption. It happens every time! I've rebooted, uninstalled / reinstalled other games, triple checked that there was nothing in C:/oblivion, everything I can think of.
I recently installed a game application which I believe may have contained viruses/malware.Later on I got a hard disk S.M.A.R.T. 301 error, and had to replace my disk... Just asking, but can applications cause the error I described above, and the hard drive to fail? Do they have anything to do with 301 error I got?
I've got two retail copies of Test Drive Unlimited, first one is the old one and the second one is the one with car megapack.
Anyway, game works great, wheel also, the only thing that fails is multiplayer.
I can create an GS account but ALWAYS when i login i get an information about server being non available.
I have a router, i tried forwarding the ports but it was the same. I disabled my firewall, uninstalled any application that may have caused this, but it still doesn't work.
Im trying to connect since two months, im kinda desperate right now. Everything was working fine on Vista and XP.
Does anyone have similar problem? Is there any fix?
When booting upduring POST, I get a "floppy drive fail (40)" error code. I have to use F1 to get to the desk top. I do not have a floppy drive! I have replaced the cmos battery on the mother board. When I access floppy drive in the removable device priority menu, click, nothing! I get no sub-menu to disable it.
My Asus motherboard does not recongnise my keyboard until the Windows OS loads. Now I have no OS and need to install new OS.Since keyboard works only after Windows boots I cannot access Bios to change boot options to CD, Floopy or USB.
When I install a game in Windows 7 and Windows recognizes it it dumps the game's shortcut in the Game folder of the Start Menu. That wouldn't be a problem except Windows 7 prevents the game from creating the shortcuts it would have created had the operating system not been Windows 7- things like the game's Read Me, Uninstaller & Configuration options.
I have purchased and installed Win7 on a New (2 months old) PC that has a New floppy drive. The first time I used the drive I inserted a disk and opened it up to see what was on it. Explorer showed files and allowed me to open one for viewing. I then deleted all files from the disk and attempted to copy other files to the disk at which time I got a device not readable/disk not formatted. I attempted to format the disk numerous times with no luck. I used another PC (WinXP) to check/format the disk and again put the disk into the Win7 PC and opened it - showed disk empty (Good). I then copied some files to the disk, they did copy this time, then closed all windows and reopened explorer to the F. Drv again at which time I could See and Open the files. HERE'S WHERE THINGS GET FUNKY. I close explorer window, remove the disk and reinstalled the disk, open explorer to F. Drv and now the disk is EMPTY. When I try to again copy files to the disk I get the disk not formatted - but it will not format the disk and keeps giving a bad media message (I've tried 15 disks). I figured it was the drive (HW) even though it's new so I obtained another New drive and it did the same thing. I changed cables 3 times (one cable is new) - NO CHANGE. I tried an old but good drive - NO CHANGE.
Each time I try to read a floppy disk and then try to read the same disk on my WinXP PC I'm told the disk is not formatted/corrupted file system. The disk(s) are good and work as advertised in the XP machine but not with Win7. Kicker - my USB floppy drive works very well with Win7 and no issues.
I recently bought a new power pack for my Dell Dimension 5100 and after installing I got a message saying floppy diskette seek failure. I googled it and as suggested disabled it in the bios and SORTED.However yesterday i was installing a new wireless dongle and it crashed and I had to shut down. I have since got a variety of messages relating to files includinf "NTFS" and "PCI" so I want to do a repair of the Windows XP Home OS. However I cant install the CD because the drive isnt working. I had a look inside (because I am pretty sure the drive worked fine before the new PSU) and I am sure that all the wires are in right. When the computer is on the CD drive opens up and closes but is not actually recognised. Also, I have tried several other working CD drives but to no avail (presumably because they have to be installed right?).
