I've got a floppy drive A: installed on my computer, but of-course, i don't have no floppy drive, how do i get rid of this problem (im using windows 7 RC).
Answer:-
Go into your BIOS and set it to disable the floppy controller. The BIOS will tell Windows (any version of Windows) that a floppy drive is present, even if none is hooked up, if the floppy controller is enabled.

I'm trying to run a game from a floppy disk that I used on Windows 95 on Windows 7. But I get an error message saying its not compatible with my version of windows. Any ideas on how I can make it work?
Answer:-
Set up a virtual machine of Windows 98 (preferably 98 SE) using something like VirtualBox (ensure you have a copy of Windows 98 handy as well...). Install and play from there.

If your not going to use a Floppy Drive in your Computer you can disable it and ger rid of the Floppy Drive icon that sits in my computer.
Right click on my computer and select properties. In the hardware tab select 'Device Manager'. In the device manager there should be an expandable menu labelled 'Floppy disk controllers', expand this and you should see something like 'Standard floppy disk controller' right click on this and click disable. If at some time you do need to use a Floppy Drive you can re-able it.

I tried to update disk drivers with Computer Management and it says that my drivers are up to date. I tried to uninstall drivers and than install it again and that's not working. BIOS and Computer Management can see the floppy drive, but Win Explorer can't see floppy. What should i do to access my floppy and my files?

I have purchased and installed Win7 on a New (2 months old) PC that has a New floppy drive. The first time I used the drive I inserted a disk and opened it up to see what was on it. Explorer showed files and allowed me to open one for viewing. I then deleted all files from the disk and attempted to copy other files to the disk at which time I got a device not readable/disk not formatted. I attempted to format the disk numerous times with no luck. I used another PC (WinXP) to check/format the disk and again put the disk into the Win7 PC and opened it - showed disk empty (Good). I then copied some files to the disk, they did copy this time, then closed all windows and reopened explorer to the F. Drv again at which time I could See and Open the files. HERE'S WHERE THINGS GET FUNKY. I close explorer window, remove the disk and reinstalled the disk, open explorer to F. Drv and now the disk is EMPTY. When I try to again copy files to the disk I get the disk not formatted - but it will not format the disk and keeps giving a bad media message (I've tried 15 disks). I figured it was the drive (HW) even though it's new so I obtained another New drive and it did the same thing. I changed cables 3 times (one cable is new) - NO CHANGE. I tried an old but good drive - NO CHANGE.
Each time I try to read a floppy disk and then try to read the same disk on my WinXP PC I'm told the disk is not formatted/corrupted file system. The disk(s) are good and work as advertised in the XP machine but not with Win7. Kicker - my USB floppy drive works very well with Win7 and no issues.

Has anyone else had trouble using a USB floppy drive in Windows 7? The drive does not appear in My Computer, I have tried troubleshooting the device, uninstalling it and re-installing it and trying to install other drivers to resolve the issue (windows will not accept others as it already has the best driver apparently...). I'm at a loss now I have even tried using drivermax to correct the problem but even that does not recognise the device. To ensure it wasn't an issue with the Floppy drive itself I have even tried using another, with the same result.

I've got Silent Service 2 on 2x floppy disks. The problem I have is when I load the disks into the drive, it tells me nothing is there and to format the disks??I've tried to find a way round this, but keep getting sent to DOS Box. Is there anyway to get the game onto the Hard Drive and run the game without DOS Box??

I recently bought a new power pack for my Dell Dimension 5100 and after installing I got a message saying floppy diskette seek failure. I googled it and as suggested disabled it in the bios and SORTED.However yesterday i was installing a new wireless dongle and it crashed and I had to shut down. I have since got a variety of messages relating to files includinf "NTFS" and "PCI" so I want to do a repair of the Windows XP Home OS. However I cant install the CD because the drive isnt working. I had a look inside (because I am pretty sure the drive worked fine before the new PSU) and I am sure that all the wires are in right. When the computer is on the CD drive opens up and closes but is not actually recognised. Also, I have tried several other working CD drives but to no avail (presumably because they have to be installed right?).

for some unknown reason my Floppy drive runs very, very slow on 64bit Windows 7. Takes about a minute to open an office XL file, and longer to close it... a lot longer. Even after the file is closed, the floppy light is still on an clicking, like it's reading the disc still. The drive itself is OK. I've got XP Pro on the same PC and the floppy is like lightning on XP. Also tried updating drivers, but it says it's got the best drivers available, and that it's working OK. So what the heck is it?

I was having no problems with my Windows 7 X64 bit till I plugged in a USB floppy and copied some photos to the hard drive. The windows portion of the boot went to approx 5 times what it was. I have disabled all the boot devices except the hard drive and have uninstalled the driver that Windows 7 installed when I plugged in the floppy.Runs fine after the boot.

I have a new Dell XPS 8300 desktop still in the box with a HDD pre-installed with Windows 7. Since it was not a customization option at the time of purchase, I would like to install a new SSD to run Windows 7 and a few important programs that I will load in the future. There are currently no programs or data on the existing HDD that I need to transfer other than the OS and the drivers that I need to make the computer work. I would like to avoid messing with cloning and adjusting partitions if possible.Eventually, I would like to use the HDD as a secondary drive where I can load non-essential programs and store larger data files.Based on what I have read on numerous threads, the following is the procedure I intend to use. Please let me know if I am missing any steps or if I am doing something that will not achieve the desired result.
1) Turn on computer with the HDD installed as-is and the SSD still sitting in the box.
2) Use Dells DataSafe Local BackUp to create a System Recovery Media on either a DVD or 8+ GB USB key.
3) For a belt and suspenders backup, next I was going to use the Windows 7 feature to create a system image found at Control Panel -> System and Security -> Backup and Restore. I am very conservative and would like the option to start over if I mess anything up. I was planning on saving the system image to the existing HDD and to a either a DVD or external hard drive. I am not exactly sure how large this file is and where I should store it.
4) Restart computer and enter BIOS, and change the SATA mode to AHCI. I assume this should be done before installing the SSD. Power down computer immediately after.
5) After powering down, I was going to unplug the HDD power cable and unplug the connection of the HDD to SATA Port 0.
6) Install new SSD in a free bay and connect power and cable to SATA Port 0.
7) Restart computer with System Recovery Media (from Step 2) already in either the DVD drive or plugged into a USB port. I assume the computer will automatically boot from the System Recovery Media, but I realize I may need to enter BIOS (or some other system menu) to tell it to load and install Windows 7 from the System Recovery Media. Can anyone fill in the blank here so I know what to expect?
8) After Windows 7 has been installed, will the System Recovery Disk automatically install all of the device drivers that originally were installed on the systems HDD? I have a device drivers disk from Dell but was hoping this would be accomplished by the System Recovery Disk?
9) I am assuming after Step 8, that the computer will function and look the same way as it did at Step 1. This may be a little nave. Is there anything I am missing?
10) I was hoping that Windows 7 would do a good job of automatically adjusting the system for the SSD, so I was going to not fool with the tweaks that everyone is recommending. Are there any tweaks or setting adjustments that I have to make to allow the SSD to function properly? Optimum performance is great, but I dont want to risk standard performance by messing things up after I have come this far.
11) After verifying that everything is working properly, I was going to power down and then connect the existing HDD to power and an available SATA port.
12) Reboot the system, and magically the HDD will be listed as an E drive that I can store data files and load non-essential programs on. I actually assume it is not this easy. Do I need to uninstall Windows 7 on the HDD or delete the partition and reformat? The less the better, but I dont want to create problems with conflicting drives.

I tried to reinstall it and I had a hard time to complete the windows installation, it would mark an error in mid process. So I finally got it done, and started to have alot of blue screen and restarts on the pc.I went straight to the HDD, I have checked it too many times and they all say it's okay. So I got two theories, it's either my motherboard or the dvd drives... which kinda odd, but both should be damage.Anyway, I recently had an issue and all usb drives went death. I know the hardware works, because they are on up until windows starts running, they go death. I had issues on the usb drives, but keyboard and mouse worked, to have a usb storage I would disable and enable the usb drive and it would work. Now nothing.I been using teamviewer to control the desktop. So after all the background and long story, I been going down to reinstall windows, I last installed a 64 bits, because I recently upgrade it to 4 GBs of RAM, but don't how convinient it is. Don't know if it's okay to reinstall a 64 bits or just go back to 32 bits? I mainly use it for LAN media streaming and storing info.
