I was having no problems with my Windows 7 X64 bit till I plugged in a USB floppy and copied some photos to the hard drive. The windows portion of the boot went to approx 5 times what it was. I have disabled all the boot devices except the hard drive and have uninstalled the driver that Windows 7 installed when I plugged in the floppy.Runs fine after the boot.

Even after the file is closed, the floppy light is still on an clicking, like it's reading the disc still. The drive itself is OK. I've got XP Pro on the same PC and the floppy is like lightning on XP. Also tried updating drivers, but it says it's got the best drivers available, and that it's working OK. So what the heck is it?

Go into your BIOS and set it to disable the floppy controller. The BIOS will tell Windows (any version of Windows) that a floppy drive is present, even if none is hooked up, if the floppy controller is enabled.
The bios is detecting all of them but Windows 7 is not. The floppy's power is on all the time and it is enabled in the bios. My 3rd hard drive is not being detected, however I did delete some windows 7 files and it was working before that. And I have no idea about my dvd drive. My other drive is working though.

Set up a virtual machine of Windows 98 (preferably 98 SE) using something like VirtualBox (ensure you have a copy of Windows 98 handy as well...). Install and play from there.
If your not going to use a Floppy Drive in your Computer you can disable it and ger rid of the Floppy Drive icon that sits in my computer.
Right click on my computer and select properties. In the hardware tab select 'Device Manager'. In the device manager there should be an expandable menu labelled 'Floppy disk controllers', expand this and you should see something like 'Standard floppy disk controller' right click on this and click disable. If at some time you do need to use a Floppy Drive you can re-able it.
For some reason my USB floppy drive is not found or recognized in Win 7 64 bit, it was working but not anymore. Can't find it in Computer Management-Disk Management but it is listed in Devices and shows no conflicts.

One 500gb SATA for OS. The other is a 250 Seagate IDE slave drive. Everything has been good since back in my xp days. Until this week when I installed windows 7. It takes about 10 minutes for my computer to boot into win 7 OS while my slave drive is plugged in. When I unplug the slave drive my computer runs very nicely.

It takes forever to bootup, startup and it sometime hangs when I open up a program or typing.For the bootup, it takes very long time on the window logo, after that the black screen, followed by the welcome page with the loading cursor. Each of this process take a long time. For startup, its not so long but its still quite lag. The first time I used the drive I inserted a disk and opened it up to see what was on it. Explorer showed files and allowed me to open one for viewing. I then deleted all files from the disk and attempted to copy other files to the disk at which time I got a device not readable/disk not formatted. I attempted to format the disk numerous times with no luck. I used another PC (WinXP) to check/format the disk and again put the disk into the Win7 PC and opened it - showed disk empty (Good). I then copied some files to the disk, they did copy this time, then closed all windows and reopened explorer to the F. Drv again at which time I could See and Open the files. HERE'S WHERE THINGS GET FUNKY. I close explorer window, remove the disk and reinstalled the disk, open explorer to F. Drv and now the disk is EMPTY. When I try to again copy files to the disk I get the disk not formatted - but it will not format the disk and keeps giving a bad media message (I've tried 15 disks). I figured it was the drive (HW) even though it's new so I obtained another New drive and it did the same thing. I changed cables 3 times (one cable is new) - NO CHANGE. I tried an old but good drive - NO CHANGE.
Each time I try to read a floppy disk and then try to read the same disk on my WinXP PC I'm told the disk is not formatted/corrupted file system. The disk(s) are good and work as advertised in the XP machine but not with Win7. Kicker - my USB floppy drive works very well with Win7 and no issues.

He has been doing some intense computing and said he has been maxing out his CPU's at 100% for weeks. For starters, the system for several months has not shut-down, only reset when asked to shutdown. He has been using sleep mode. Over the past several days, when starting up it goes to the BSOD. This could be from him powering down PC since it won't shutdown. Now, system takes over 5 minutes to boot up. When logged in, the windows maximize and minimize in slow motion. You can see them slowly open/close and move across the screen and are translucent. We did a fresh install of windows 7 and have same thing. He thinks that the CPU may be destroyed.

I found this site through a google search of "long boot times". Recently and all of a sudden, my boot time has went from about 30 seconds to about 3 minutes, with a long delay between windows logo and welcome screen. I found cluberi's tutorial on obtaining a boot log and I've done so.

i'm having a major issue with loading times on my windows 7 pc.every time i boot my pc it takes 5 mins or more for the hdd to stop loading files and for the computer to become responsive, after which it runs reasonably fast, but the hdd is always actively seeking.
