Random Floppy Drive Seek And Hard Drive Light Flashing?

Dec 13, 2011

I've been noticing after re-installing Win 7 that I get random floppy drive seeks and the hard drive light flashes like crazy and then everything is fine again.I have Clamwin AV,Spyware Blaster and Spybot S&D installed, but that's it,no Windows Defender or Essentials AV.Any ideas what causes this? It's a minor annoyance, but I just want to make sure it's not damaging anything. Also would Readyboost help me? I've got 2 gigs dual channel PC3200 ram(or I could go with 2.5 gig single channel PC2700)and a P4 at 3 gig until I can afford to upgrade my comp. This is my first post in quite awhile so I hope this is in the right place

Get Rid Of Floppy Drive A:

Nov 11, 2009

I've got a floppy drive A: installed on my computer, but of-course, i don't have no floppy drive, how do i get rid of this problem (im using windows 7 RC).

Answer:-

Go into your BIOS and set it to disable the floppy controller. The BIOS will tell Windows (any version of Windows) that a floppy drive is present, even if none is hooked up, if the floppy controller is enabled.

Win 7 Not Detecting Hard Drive, Floppy And Dvd Drive

The bios is detecting all of them but Windows 7 is not. The floppy's power is on all the time and it is enabled in the bios. My 3rd hard drive is not being detected, however I did delete some windows 7 files and it was working before that. And I have no idea about my dvd drive. My other drive is working though.

Run A Game From Floppy Drive

Nov 3, 2009

I'm trying to run a game from a floppy disk that I used on Windows 95 on Windows 7. But I get an error message saying its not compatible with my version of windows. Any ideas on how I can make it work?

Answer:-

Set up a virtual machine of Windows 98 (preferably 98 SE) using something like VirtualBox (ensure you have a copy of Windows 98 handy as well...). Install and play from there.

If your not going to use a Floppy Drive in your Computer you can disable it and ger rid of the Floppy Drive icon that sits in my computer.

Right click on my computer and select properties. In the hardware tab select 'Device Manager'. In the device manager there should be an expandable menu labelled 'Floppy disk controllers', expand this and you should see something like 'Standard floppy disk controller' right click on this and click disable. USB Floppy Drive Driver Error?

Jan 14, 2009

Has anyone else had trouble using a USB floppy drive in Windows 7? The drive does not appear in My Computer, I have tried troubleshooting the device, uninstalling it and re-installing it and trying to install other drivers to resolve the issue (windows will not accept others as it already has the best driver apparently...). I'm at a loss now I have even tried using drivermax to correct the problem but even that does not recognise the device. To ensure it wasn't an issue with the Floppy drive itself I have even tried using another, with the same result.

Floppy Drive Extremely Slow

Feb 8, 2010

for some unknown reason my Floppy drive runs very, very slow on 64bit Windows 7. Takes about a minute to open an office XL file, and longer to close it... a lot longer. Even after the file is closed, the floppy light is still on an clicking, like it's reading the disc still. The drive itself is OK. I've got XP Pro on the same PC and the floppy is like lightning on XP. Also tried updating drivers, but it says it's got the best drivers available, and that it's working OK. So what the heck is it?

SB600 ATI RAID AHCI Drivers? (BSOD On Boot If In RAID/AHCI Mode.)

Jan 6, 2009

anyways, my main drive is a RAID 0 with Vista x64, but I have a second HD that is a SATA 250GB, which I installed Windows 7 on. The only way I could get install to work was to switch my BIOS to IDE mode rather than RAID. I would of course though, like to be able to access my Vista drive from Windows 7 (and more importantly, not have to switch between IDE/RAID mode at all in the BIOS, it's a pain).

Now, the one odd this about this all is that the drivers I have for Vista (x86/x64 drivers) for this mobo's RAID controller WORK when loaded on installation to identify and install to the drive, but seem to not load or not work in any way once the first reboot on install occurs. Maybe this is because I installed from within Vista x64, though.

(Incedentally, my motherboard is an M3A Asus, using ATI's SB600 for a RAID controller)

I've tried loading the drivers from within Windows 7 while in IDE mode, but the install program won't let me. At first it didn't allow because of version restrictions, but then I altered the ini file to get around that, but it encounters some sort of error when installing and quits.

Any help that can be offered, would be grateful. I realise it's a beta and not a real release, so I can get past the BSOD from my odd setup, and I really am enjoying playing around with it so far. Very very impressed.

Edit: Just in case anyone thinks of suggesting me to right-click the inf file and install that way, already tried, won't allow for it.

Windows 7 Laptop Cannot Access Drive From WinXP Machine Via USB Drive Dock?

Oct 13, 2012

Background: I have a WinXP desktop machine with a hard drive that may have a virus/trojan/rootkit/etc. Normal scans on the WinXP machine with MSE or ThreatFire have not discovered the problem. But the best way to scan a drive is to remove it and treat it as a purely 'dummy' data drive plugged into a usb drive dock and run the scan from a clean machine. This way any infected programs and/or O.S. on the drive will have no control to mask or hide themselves. My other computer is an HP Windows 7 laptop. So I removed the hard drive from the WinXP machine and via the USB drive dock and the Windows 7 laptop saw the WinXP drive icon appear. However, double-clicking that icon results in the popup window message[CODE]

Raid Drivers Question

Jun 27, 2009

I am planning to set up RAID but cannot figure out if I need to load drivers at install of the OS or not. Does anyone know if you need to install the driver or not? I guess I could do it just in case...it's for a GA-EP45-UD3P Gigabyte. I guess this pic confirms I have on board RAID support right?

I had to sign up to find this but here is the "checklist" for anyone with the same question.

Can't Install RAID 0 Drivers

Jan 4, 2010

I've read several forum threads on this, but am still having trouble. I have win 7 32bit RC up and running for a long time on a 500 gig WD. Bought two 1Ts for a raid 0. I have the RAID chosen correctly in the BIOS, and the utility works fine. At the clean install for either 64 or 32 bit, I try to choose the drivers which I have downloaded from Intel and Asus, and tried to use the Vista drivers off my P5Q install disk, and still, Win 7 does not recognize the drive.

I have been home building and using computers for the past 25 years and I guess technology has gotten way over my hobbiest head. I have tried the USB flash drive route and I doesn't work either. Please, I know of the F8 workaround for unsigned drivers, but that doesn't work either. So, how are people raiding Win 7 at clean install?

Second question, is there a good tutorial at technet.com (which I can't find there) or someother place that tells step by step how to raid under disk manager in win 7?

NF4 Raid Drivers / Controller

Apr 28, 2009

I've just installed Windows 7 RC build 7100 onto my system. As always like with Vista installations in the past, I run into this problem. I have a DFI Lanparty NF4 Ultra-D motherboard and for some reason my RAID drive doesn't show up. I can see the two HDs I have set up as a raid appear and separate individual drives under My Computer but can't access them unless I format them which is something I dont want to do. I checked under Device Manager and under Stoare Controllers, NVIDIA nForce RAID Controller is installed...but I think I'm missing the proper RAID tool? I'm not too sure about this.

My Device Manager lists everything as installed, but each time I restart my computer and boot up, the computer is trying to install some drives but "Failed." The prompt says, "Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller" x3, and all 3 Failed to install. I have no idea if this is the actual problem because I'm trying to get my RAID Stripe to work and they are both on SATA connections and not IDE...I have tried a few sets of nForce packs such as Fernandos_XP_64bit_nForce4-5_non-AHCI_WHQL_PACK_v5.4 but no avail.

RAID 1 On Windows C Drive

Oct 27, 2012

I am doing a quick windows build here on a couple of computers and want to RAID 1 the windows C drive. The motherboard i got for them does not support RAID (I kinda figured it would). So now i was thinking of just doing a software RAID in windows. I got the C drive to mirror each other in disk management but the issue seems to be booting. When the computer starts it asks which hard drive i want to boot from and when i simulate hard drive failure the boot manager doesn't come up at all and i am stuck with the no boot device error. My guessing is that there is something on the 100MB system partition that isn't copying over.
