View 1 RepliesDid a clean install of windows 7 on my sony vaio fz21z laptop. Cannot find a solution to get the brightness keys working also found driver for bluetooth that works fine but cannot turn the device on or off. I have been told that it is a separate piece of software but cannot find this.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhy is Windows 7 64 SP1 bit stuck on full brightness, FN+ keys don't work, I would like them to work. Asus N50VN. I did go to the drivers page and latest drivers did not work, I installed Nvidia from Windows Update still FN up / down keys don't work
View 2 Replies View RelatedThis has been going on for ages. Upon a fresh boot, keyboard brightness dimming does not work until I put laptop to sleep. Then, the FN+up/down works fine. I can't remember if this has always been the case, but I know when I first got my laptop, Windows 7 pre-installed, the auto-dimmer was working. Now I am not sure it is (not that I mind, I don't want it on). Now, when I check Advanced Power Options, the "enable auto dimmer" isn't even listed.
I pretty much need to have quick brightness keyboard control due to my light sensitivity. Win+X is annoying to resort to.
Also, when the FN+up/down keys DO work to change the brightness, it says: "Ambient Light Sensor Disabled". (Also also, I checked, and I have no "sensors" installed, so says my system.) Also, my keyboard has a FN+Auto Dimmer key that is the 'left' key in the arrow set, but it doesn't appear to do anything. Or am I completely missing that THIS might be what I need to hit in order to enable keyboard dimming commands? (I haven't tried, but right now, after coming out of Sleep mode, the dimming commands are working and the "auto" option does nothing).
Anyway....
Windows 7 Home Premuim
Dell Latitude E5410
Intel Core i5 m450 2.5ghz
4gb ram
32bit
DirectX 11
Intel HD Graphics 1562mb 60hz
Don't know what else you need to know. I did some searching online and this might be a BIOS setting, but I didn't want to go that route before I talk to someone. (PS, Power Options, as far as I can tell, only lets me manually, on the screen, adjust brightness - it seems to have no control over keyboard adjustment settings).
Occasionally, when resume from hibernation/suspend, display brightness control doesn't work. Means that Fn + F2,F3 doesn't work, change from Windows Power Options doesn't work, change from intel graphic doesn't work. If I have to restart some services to get it working? It's occasional and I can't find anything exact in EventLog. My system is HP Probook 4230s with Core i5-2410 with intel HD3000. Latest patches on both Win 7 Pro 32-bit and intel driver. Restart machines solve the problem, re-hibernate or re-suspend machine occasionally solve the problem, but mostly not.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am currently running Windows 7 RC1 and have noticed a behavioral change from XP which I would love to change.
In the NVIDIA control panel, there are 2 sets of settings for brightness:
1) Desktop color settings
2) Video color settings
In Windows XP, these would be completely independent. Thus for example, I could have my desktop dark while the videos could be bright and vivid.
Thus in XP:
Desktop Brightness = Desktop color settings
Video Brightness = Video color settings
In Windows 7, the OS only behaves this way when using Aero Basic. If I'm using the full Aero interface, I get the following behavior:
Desktop Brightness = Desktop color settings
Video Brightness = Desktop color settings + Video color settings
I would really love to have these control act independently on the full Aero interface. Is this possible? NVIDIA settings can obviously still distinguish the video because the video color settings still only apply to video, so I'm not sure why it behaves this way.
I am having the following system configuration
XPS L401X Base
Genuine Windows(R) 7 Home Premium 64bit (English)
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-740QM Processor
6GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM (1 x 2GB + 1 x 4GB)
640GB 7200RPM Hard Drive
Lately whenever i try to start my computer it pass the Dell Bios and then directly goes to the screen which states
Repair your system or Start windows normally When i chose repair system , it start downloading windows files and then launch the windows , but hung up at the sky blue login window with only movable cusor . When i choose to start windows normally it gives me BSOD momentarly ( hard to see the message) and then restarts again . i tried with the advanced boot up options like
repair my computer , all safe modes , restore to last good configuration but it does the same and hangs at windows loging sky blue window .I Tried to run the Dell PSA+ Diagnostic and it returns with 2000-0146 error . As per the Dell online solutions for this type of error ,I tried to reinstall the Hard disk but the problem still exist.
I'm looking into a relative's PC running Windows 7 Home Premium and it's giving me quite a lot of errors.I can't say exactly what the problem is, but several messages/errors led me to believe that a system repair of corrupt/missing files was in order:- Example 1: Control Panel >> Programs >> Turn Windows features on or off: The system could not find the environment option that was entered. Same error comes up when I try to run CMD as Administrator. - Example 2: Opening pictures with Windows' default picture viewer produced an error. This led me to believe that maybe just the picture viewer was corrupt, but then I saw WMP wouldn't run either, and different system options wouldn't work (as in Ex. 1).
I looked around and found that the appropriate files actually did exists, but still wouldn't run for some reason (e.g. WMP, Picture Viewer, etc.)So I decided to run "sfc /scannow" which, at first, just popped up and then immediately closed. Then I tried running it from the Windows 7 installation DVD, via Safe Mode, and via other accounts. In most cases, it said it was starting and that "This will take some time", and a few seconds later "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation".I also tried "sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c: /offwindir=c:windows" and the same via the installation DVD, in which case I used "sfc /scannow /offbootdir=d: /offwindir=d:windows" instead.I Googled a lot and nothing seems to work. I'd really like to restore this system back into working condition without losing any personal data. Yes, I've already backed it up.
I can't get system restore to work all the way.I keep getting error messages. The first error message said this:"System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed.System Restore failed while mounting the registry from the restore point. An unspecified error occurred during System Restore. (0x800703f1)".A different error message was saying that Restore didn't work because it failed to extract this file: C:Program Files (x86)AdobeAdobe Premiere Elements 7.0x0407.ini So, I booted into safe mode and I deleted every single Adobe Premiere Elements file on my pc. Then I tried to do system restore again, this time from safe mode - but restore still didn't work. I keep getting the same error message. I have tried all the other restore points, with no success. Also, if this info helps - last week I installed a new internal 2TB Hard Drive onto my computer - it's the "K:" drive. A few days later I was getting ready to create a regular Restore Point, like I do every few weeks. But that's when I noticed that "System Restore" now shows two drives "C:" and "K:", and "K:" was greyed-out. So, I clicked the "Configure" button to configure the "K:" drive.
So, I wasn't sure that if the act of configuring the "K:" drive might have caused this whole - not being able to Restore issue. For example, by adding a new hard drive and then "Configuring" the drive, so that System Restore can work/talk with the new drive - did that somehow give System Restore a split-personality disorder? [code]
all the icons on my screen have gone white and i cant click anything not even the start button. when i bring up the task manager all it is is a white box. i can login in fine but that is it. when i try torestore nothing happens, i dont have any restore points so i dont want to do a complete restore if i can avoid it. i have tried running chkdsk in safe mode but nothing has worked. i have also run avg rescue cd form a usb and it identified a trojan but i deleted it, still no effect. i have also tried using the recovery cd i got with my samsung laptop but can only use the startup check tool. this comes back with no issues but i cant use any of the other options.

I would like to know if I were to install 7 on an SSD and assign the Systems Drive Letter to A:, if I would have any trouble with 7? Additionally, would Applications like Office, BoostSpeed, Picasa, etc. install on C: as they did before or would they install on A?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a nearly new system with a Gigabyte motherboard. Everything had been running ok the errors began appearing and the system went into a start up loop.
After having it examined by a computer engineer the only thing he could do was to re install a trial version of Windows 7 in the hope that when I activate it (in the next 30 days) the motherboard will accept the new product key.
I am at a loss as to why my system crashed initially but after several technicians have looked at the system this is the best they could do. If its going to be an issue I wont activate and will start using a Linux OS if I have to.

She has important personal data on this system so a fresh OS install is not an option yet.THis will be a good learning experience for me as I am looking into starting my own computer repair business. I'm not quite sure how to proceed with this. What should I do from here? Do I need to remove her HD and use a data recovery app on a separate system to recover her files, then reinstall Windows 7?
I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. When I try to do a System Restore, it seems to run to completion, reboots the system and then issues the following message:

View 2 Replies View Relatedmy laptop starts up as the "windows did not shut down properly" screen where I can start windows normal to do repair. When I start windows normally it sends me to the repair screen. And when I select system repair it just freezes at a light blue and geen screen and the only thing showing is my cursor. Ive tried to run the system in safe mode but it freezes at classpnp.sys, and eventually sends me back to the repair screen that is frozen. I don't believe I have my windows 7 installation disk for my laptop so that is out of the equation.
My brother was using my computer and said it was updating when this happened so Im not sure what caused all this.
I installed Windows 7 RC 64bit on my Ausus Striker II Formula Motherboard (Nforce 780sli) and everything was working sweet.
I attempted to do a System Transfer from my old Windows Vista 64bit (where you transfer your documents etc.), this appeared to go well however now my network connection will not work. DHCP or Static IP settings dont work. I am unable to change the 'unidentified' network's location from public.
Any ideas from anyone?
I am close to reinstalling.
My microphone doesn't work. I am trying to record Camtasia video... system sound works, but not microphone.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently reinstalled Windows 7 and have since then not been able to use my speakers correctly since. It's important you know that they worked just fine a few days ago before I reinstalled. I did of course do a full format of the hard drive. When I'm configuring the speakers in Windows to 5.1, I'm not getting any feedback from the two rear speakers. My speakers are Logitech Z5500, motherboard Asus 880G Extreme3, sound card Creative SB X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Pro. Enabling X-Fi CMSS-3D doesn't do anything either but make the volume of the front speakers a bit lower to compensate for the supposed increased volume of the rear speakers. Which is non existent anyway.
I tried plugging the cables (I use analogue) into the on-board sound card's ports and had the same problem, which tells me it isn't a problem with the Creative sound card, but most likely something in Windows that I'm missing. Testing the speakers through the receiver works just fine. I have also tried removing the drivers I installed completely and reinstalled to see if it just was some installation error. I have also tried removing the on-board sound card drivers and disabling the on-board sound card in BIOS while trying to install the Creative drivers again. This shouldn't have worked anyway since I'm having the same problem with the two sound cards.
When using it, after a while (10 or 15 minutes perhaps) in which I haven't touched the keyboard, the brightness is suddenly reduced. Hitting any key, but not moving the mouse, brings the brightness back up again. After a while it does it again, and again seemingly at more frequent intervals. Eventually it comes to the point where even when I press a key the brightness stays low. I then have to right click on the desktop, choose Graphics Properties which brings up the Intel Graphics & Media Control Panel and reset the brightness from 0 to say 50%. It is usually OK after that for some time. There's nothing wrong with the monitor - when using it as an additional monitor with a laptop with Win XP its brightness remains unchanged for hours.
