I have a Compaq Laptop It run on Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit. It is having this problem that the wireless internet won't connect, I have done system restore so many times and every time it still won't work, sometime it will.

I am having the following system configuration
XPS L401X Base
Genuine Windows(R) 7 Home Premium 64bit (English)
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-740QM Processor
6GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM (1 x 2GB + 1 x 4GB)
640GB 7200RPM Hard Drive
Lately whenever i try to start my computer it pass the Dell Bios and then directly goes to the screen which states
Repair your system or Start windows normally When i chose repair system , it start downloading windows files and then launch the windows , but hung up at the sky blue login window with only movable cusor . When i choose to start windows normally it gives me BSOD momentarly ( hard to see the message) and then restarts again . i tried with the advanced boot up options like
repair my computer , all safe modes , restore to last good configuration but it does the same and hangs at windows loging sky blue window .I Tried to run the Dell PSA+ Diagnostic and it returns with 2000-0146 error . As per the Dell online solutions for this type of error ,I tried to reinstall the Hard disk but the problem still exist.
I can't get system restore to work all the way.I keep getting error messages. The first error message said this:"System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed.System Restore failed while mounting the registry from the restore point. An unspecified error occurred during System Restore. (0x800703f1)".A different error message was saying that Restore didn't work because it failed to extract this file: C:Program Files (x86)AdobeAdobe Premiere Elements 7.0x0407.ini So, I booted into safe mode and I deleted every single Adobe Premiere Elements file on my pc. Then I tried to do system restore again, this time from safe mode - but restore still didn't work. I keep getting the same error message. I have tried all the other restore points, with no success.Also, if this info helps - last week I installed a new internal 2TB Hard Drive onto my computer - it's the "K:" drive. A few days later I was getting ready to create a regular Restore Point, like I do every few weeks. But that's when I noticed that "System Restore" now shows two drives "C:" and "K:", and "K:" was greyed-out. So, I clicked the "Configure" button to configure the "K:" drive.
So, I wasn't sure that if the act of configuring the "K:" drive might have caused this whole - not being able to Restore issue. For example, by adding a new hard drive and then "Configuring" the drive, so that System Restore can work/talk with the new drive - did that somehow give System Restore a split-personality disorder? all the icons on my screen have gone white and i cant click anything not even the start button. when i bring up the task manager all it is is a white box. i can login in fine but that is it. when i try torestore nothing happens, i dont have any restore points so i dont want to do a complete restore if i can avoid it. i have tried running chkdsk in safe mode but nothing has worked. i have also run avg rescue cd form a usb and it identified a trojan but i deleted it, still no effect. i have also tried using the recovery cd i got with my samsung laptop but can only use the startup check tool. this comes back with no issues but i cant use any of the other options.

"System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed."
Same result in Safe mode. Same result with AV disabled. (Kaspersky Internet Security 12)
Ever since I removed some malware I cannot run a program that is vital to my job. It tries to do a software update (which it does periodically) and encounters this error: "Message 0x1047 in SUBVMCHK Another application is in the process of updating. Please wait while this update completes." I click ok and the program shuts down. I cannot uninstall the program (I get error 1060). Is there a registry key missing? Earliest system restore does not work.

After looking on forums I found out that people have previously done a startup repair to fix the problem. So, I did this and it asked to do a system restore. After starting up again it refuses to connect to the Internet. It also came up with a message saying that 'Event Log Service is Unavailable'. I really don't want to wipe the computer and start again because I really like how I've set it up, plus I have managed to lose the disk with Windows 7 on it. My computer has a wired Internet connection. Restarted the hub, still doesn't work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOn a brand new laptop the user copied some word files over, and they opened on the new computer just fine. Then they copied some more .doc files and they could not open them, so (they claim) they choose word as the default file association (which is fine, except it should not have prompted for that in the first place). After that all the word document shortcuts they created on the desktop changed to a shortcut with IE's 'e' symbol - clicking them flashes up a screen that instantly goes away (ie I assume) and ie's download file dialog then opens. Further, an attempt to open ie acts the same way. Worse, running system restore does the same thing - flash, then ie files downloaded dialog - asking if I want to open one of the files listed (which are the .lnk files to the word documents on the desktop). So short of doing a full system restore, and also short of manually copying the registry files from the last restore point (which I'm not sure is even possible on a windows 7 drive) what can I do to resolve this mess?
View 3 Replies View RelatedThis morning (Wednesday) my desktop computer brought in automaticly Tuesdays (26/04/11) set of patches, 6 in total for my machine. I turned the computer of for as I headed of to work and they installed on the shutdown. On returning from work the updates continued the install procedure on loading, but stuck at 0% for over 20mins. I decided to check the install time for this stage on my laptop 7pro x86 and it wizzed through in a few moments (laptop is a good 6yrs old). I figured the desktop was stuck and hit reset, every time it would get stuck at 0% on configuring the updates. Booted into safemode and ran system restore to the morning. Computer now loads up ok but will not connect to the internet. It would appear that its not getting an IP from the router.
What i've tried so far:After running system restore I've removed the Anti virus (Eset Smart Security). Tried setting manual ip address and ping router and laptop, also tried ping from laptop to desktop, both ways destination unreachable. reinstalled network drivers, same fault occurs. Reset winsock (netsh winsock reset catalog), rebooted after. reset TCP/IP (netsh int ip reset c:esetlog.txt), reported ok, rebooted same fault. ran sfc /scannow, reports system file integrity ok.Unchecked IPv6, same issue occurs. Checked network cables on laptop, ok.
I have recently installed windows ultimate x64 on my computer.i have an asus p6t deluxe v2 mobo, i7-960 cpu and a wd velociraptor hdd. The install went ok, I even managed to restart my computer a few times after but after windows updates installed it won't boot. I tried to boot into safe mode, restore from the installer, and repair, none worked. After startup repair it says: "a patch is preventing the system from starting" and I get a 0x1f error code.(Preventing windows from downloading any updates didn't work either)

System restore disc did not work. At this point I thought the hard drive was fried. Finally I stuck the the Windows 7 companion disk and got the system to boot I can tell all my files are there somewhere due to amount of memory taking up on the hard drive. Anyways my main problem it is now asking for the product key although I have 29 days which unfortunately I cannot find. Laptop in question is a Lenovo G550. Where do I go from here? Do I have to purchase a new key? I've been using the laptop since and it seems to be working properly as far as i can tell.

I created a backup of my old registry before cleaning and I can access it using the command prompt that you can access in the system restore options. View 7 Replies View RelatedOK, so a couple of days ago, my HP desktop crashed and then went through the whole System Recovery loop(I couldn't login to Safe mode, wouldn't let me past the System Recovery Screen). Well I backed up the entire C drive using Backup your files in the menu. Then it shows you all the file types it will back up; i.e photos, videos, e-mails and bookmarks. So I did that to an external hard drive and it comes out to 143GB.Now comes my problem. I've been able to copy everything from the external hard drive using RecoveryMgr.exe which opens the WIM files and saves them to my C: hard drive under System Recovery Files. However it does not seem to work when it comes to putting in my old Thunderbird e-mails, contacts and such or in Firefox to restore my bookmarks, saved passwords.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSystem restore failed to extract the file. from the restore point. There was a disk failure during the restore. This might be caused by bad sectors on the disk. I get the same message, but with a different file name, with every restore point I try, and I have now tried all seven available restore points, going back to 30 Dec 2011. The computer was working perfectly until 3 days ago when it blue screened, and has not started properly since. It is a Corei5 with 4 GB RAM and is only 12 months old. I just dont believe the drive has that many bad sectors.

I installed Ubuntu 12.04, the installation smooth as butter, but after a few days of usage, the GRUB system screwed up. After a LOT of problems I managed to restore my Laptop to its default configuration. Then, I tried to restore my personal files with the DVDs I made, but when the manager finished, it only showed a folder with all my files in it! The original hard drive, a Hitachi HDS721010CLA332 1Tb crashed.1) System Recovery discs was made along with a System Recovery with System Image disc.2) A more current System Image was made on an external hard drive.The Hitachi was replaced with the same model. Checked bios to make sure it was installed correctly.Under System Recovery, Image Restore, Select a System Image Backup there is nothing in the table to choose from as far as a source (disc drive or external drive).A) System Recovery (3 discs) has the HP preinstall file folder on the 3rd disc but is not read by the System Recovery program.B) Under System Restore, Image Restore, Advanced, it asks for a network or driver to be installed. That opens up the directory of C: which is the external hard drive. Under WindowsImageBackup the computer name is identified followed by three entries:[CODE]It seems to me the Recovery and System Restore discs are not functional. Am not a technical person but I have taken this as far as I know how at this point.Printed out all the instructions from HP and Microsoft to follow step by step but the failed discs will not allow me to move forward.

We just had some very heavy rains with lightening and my computer shut down several times, but I could restart it each time...except for the last time when Windows wouldn't startup. At that point, Start Up Repair came into play. Although I routinely backup on an external drive, of course I never did it this month-DUH!Results from SUR were error free (error code=0x0) on all the parameters tested, however there were the following error codes reported:"Unspecified change to the system configuration might have caused the problem."
