NVIDIA Screen Brightness Vs Video Brightness

I am currently running Windows 7 RC1 and have noticed a behavioral change from XP which I would love to change.

In the NVIDIA control panel, there are 2 sets of settings for brightness:

1) Desktop color settings

2) Video color settings

In Windows XP, these would be completely independent. Thus for example, I could have my desktop dark while the videos could be bright and vivid.

Thus in XP:

Desktop Brightness = Desktop color settings

Video Brightness = Video color settings

In Windows 7, the OS only behaves this way when using Aero Basic. If I'm using the full Aero interface, I get the following behavior:

Desktop Brightness = Desktop color settings

Video Brightness = Desktop color settings + Video color settings

I would really love to have these control act independently on the full Aero interface. Is this possible? NVIDIA settings can obviously still distinguish the video because the video color settings still only apply to video, so I'm not sure why it behaves this way.

Low Brightness Screen When Exiting Hibernating Mode
I installed Windows 7 this week on my notebook Dell XPS M1710.

Everything is good working, except one thing :

When I close the screen, so the notebook go hibernating, and then I reopen it, the notebook leave the hibernating mode, and here the screen goes dark, the brightness is very low, despite the brightness setting is at max. The only solution is to reboot the notebook.

So now I can't use hibernating mode, I have to always shutdown the notebook.

Does anybody have the same problem ?

I have a Thinkpad T60p and have noticed that sometimes when my screen dims (to save power) it does not return to full brightness.   I have tried pulling the power, manually adjusting the brighness, changing power options and even puttting the laptop in standby. Non of these work and I have to reboot my laptop to recover from this. Anyone else seen this?

Brightness Problem On Laptop
So I noticed that every time Windows 7 loads and I'm using my battery then plug into my AC adapter the brightness won't get brighter, I have to manually go into power options and drag the little indicator bar. I want it when on the AC adapter to have a full bright screen and when on the battery 50%. Well Windows 7 doesn't want to seem to remember that because after every boot both the battery and ac adapter will have brightness settings at 50%.

This is a Windows 7 problem and I was wondering if anyone has a solution.

I've installed Windows 7 on my HP 6735s Notebook and everything works great. But I have a problem with the display brightness because if I trie to change it more brighter it does not work. The FN keys for the brightness also do not work and I don't know why. The others for the sound etc working normal. If I trie to change the brightness in power options it is impossible to change it more brighter. The only mode which works is the darkest even when I have plugged in the power supply.

DELL 1420 Laptop Brightness
I somehow experiencing dim brightness from my laptop: DELL Inspiron .

I've tried in Control Panel: Power Options

I am using Balance (Recommended) but still compare to previous (Vista) the brightness is far brighter than Windows 7. Anyway to solve this issue?

When I am charging / plugging, it's brighter.

When I unplug, it becomes dim. (I've tried Fn: Up) but still it's like only half of my brightness when I am plugged.

I suspect it has something to do with my Driver Tools because after Clean Installation of Windows 7, it couldn't re-install my Driver Tools as it didn't support Windows 7 yet. It only has OS: Vista in selection of OS System.

Brightness Tuning Not Working Properly On HP 6735s
Fresh install of Windows 7 64 bits on a HP 6735s computer with AMD X2 and ATI  Radeon HD 3200.

No problem for installation.

Tuning of the screen brightness is hazardous. It does not work much of time, every time I try to put the brightness to the maximum it returns to the low value.

But after a while ( a few minutes, about 15 ...) it seems to work: brightness comes up to maximum !

Any idea ?

Brightness Controls Don't Work
I have a bit of a problem with my Windows 7 install on an MSI VR321 laptop. It's got a VIA C7M 1.6GHz processor, 1.5GB RAM and graphics are handled by VIA Chrome 9 HC IGP.

Automatically installed drivers didn't work well at all: screen would flick on and off when changing programs or rolling over programs in the bottom taskbar, and brightness controls wouldn't work.

So I downloaded and installed the latest graphics drivers from the VIA website (designed for Vista). Performance is much better, but the problem remains that I can't adjust the brightness. If it were a desktop this wouldn't be an issue, but for something running off a battery you can understand why this is a problem.

Neither the keyboard shortcuts nor the brightness slider bar in the display properties will work.

Not sure what to try next.

Does anyone have any ideas or has  anyone had a similar experience?

I was previously running Windows XP, but formatted and did a clean install before putting Windows 7 RC on.

Win 7 Video Drivers From Nvidia
I have the RC version of Windows 7 installed and the WDDM drivers seem to work ok, but every time I update the drivers to the official WHQL drivers off nVidias web site they install fine but then DX10 fails to work (ie Hellgate London in DX10 mode). Is this a known problem or should a person just stick with the WDDM 1.4 drivers that come with Microsoft's update.

Choosing An NVidia Video Card For Windows 7
I upgraded my XP system ( IBM 8291-E2U) to Windows 7 yesterday, knowing the video adapter on my motherboard was not fully Windows 7 compliant. My HP w2207 monitor's optimal resolution is 1068 x 1050 @ 60 ghz.

The video card I am considering is an : NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS 512MB DDR2 PCI Express Graphics Card

My concern is that this may not work with my mother board which is :

*Chipset*Intel i915G/GV/GL/P/PL/i910GL

Can someone comment as to the viability of this card and give me a process to follow from install to operation -- i.e. how to disable VGA and when ?

Asus V9280 / Nvidia 8x AGP Video Card
Installed 32bit version on a generic Biostar MB with AMD 5600x2 and Asus V9280 8x AGP video card which worked fine in Vista and XP and was recognized on setup. There is a built in video but I have the AGP slot as first boot up choice. Win 7 sees the card as a generic VGA and won't accept the Vista 32 driver. I am using the Nvidia chipset driver for the Geforce FX5200 which is the chip on the card. Is there a better Win 7 driver for this card? I have installed this beta on four machines and this is only the second problem I have had with it.

I would love to get this working properly but to no avail so far.

NVidia Quadro FX 570m Video Card Issue
My video card [nVidia Quadro FX 570m (I think)] is not being recognized by Windows 7 RC. In the device manager, it says that I have a "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" rather than the name of the card.

I used this card with the Windows 7 beta and it worked flawlessly.

I had to manually download the correct drivers from nvidia as their automatic detector couldn't see the videocard-- when I tried to install them, again the drivers couldn't recognize the card. The drivers I downloaded were specifically made for Windows 7.

I saw a few threads that suggested I run the installers in vista compatibility mode, so, even though it's pretty absurd to install windows 7 drivers on windows 7 using vista compatibility mode, I tried and lo and behold it didn't work. I then tried using the device manager to manually point to the nvidia drivers and it didn't work.

I am stumped.

UPDATE 7/28 3 PM:

I tried another fresh install just for fun and I'm having the same problem, however this time around, I went to nvidia.com before installing any updates or drivers and it was able to detect my videocard and point me to the proper drivers. I got the same problem during installation though. "nVidia couldn't find any drivers for you hardware" or something like that. In addition to this problem, I discovered this morning that my laptop was super hot and had not properly hibernated last night, it was hung on a black screen with a flashing underscore like a command prompt. I also cannot put the computer to sleep: it is either shut down or hibernating, windows does not give me the option for sleep.

edit: I'd also like to stress that I had none of these problems with the beta, this is only with the RC...
