Dimming The Brightness Of The Monitor?
May 18, 2011I am looking for a button I can add to the taskbar that will dim the brightness of the screen.

View 9 RepliesI have a problem with the screen brightness constantly dimming itself...it doesn`t matter which power setting I try or which route I go down...whenever re-setting,the tab just moves itself back down to the lowest setting...sometimes it stays bright for around an hour and then once again will revert. I have installed a new hard drive and so this is a new installation of windows 7 32 bit...but prior to this new hard drive I had the same problem.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have two monitors on my system (win 7) and from time to time the main monitor gets turned down in brightness. The other monitor is just find but something ( a virus, malware or program) is turning the brightness down for no reason. I have run malware and virus protection and found nothing.. Sometime is will be in the middle of a session and other times it will be on boot. It's not the monitor I'm sure (turning it on and off does not work) and it's always the same monitor that is effected.

I am currently running Windows 7 RC1 and have noticed a behavioral change from XP which I would love to change.
In the NVIDIA control panel, there are 2 sets of settings for brightness:
1) Desktop color settings
2) Video color settings
In Windows XP, these would be completely independent. Thus for example, I could have my desktop dark while the videos could be bright and vivid.
Thus in XP:
Desktop Brightness = Desktop color settings
Video Brightness = Video color settings
In Windows 7, the OS only behaves this way when using Aero Basic. If I'm using the full Aero interface, I get the following behavior:
Desktop Brightness = Desktop color settings
Video Brightness = Desktop color settings + Video color settings
I would really love to have these control act independently on the full Aero interface. Is this possible? NVIDIA settings can obviously still distinguish the video because the video color settings still only apply to video, so I'm not sure why it behaves this way.
Every day or two, Windows 7 is REVERSE dimming on me and I can only fix it with a reboot. What I mean is, suddenly when the AC Adapter is PLUGGED IN, the screen will be DIM (Even though control panel shows it as max brightness on the slider). But then once I UNPLUG the adapter, the screen is bright like its supposed to be..For the life of me I can't figure it out, but it's driving me to the point of insanity because I keep having to reboot so often.
View 9 Replies View Relatedalright so just recently my screen has been dimming when i stream videos(south park studios, Internet). i have my laptop screen set to dim after three minutes of being inactive, but i thought watching videos was an active process. after five minutes my laptop screen turns off, which is how i have it set for inactive use.
i'm using an hp dv7t laptop with windows 7 ultimate 64-bit installed.
maybe this isn't a problem with windows, but a problem with the browser i am using? i'm using the latest version of firefox.
I understand how to turn down the level of brightness through backlight control but how do I decrease the level even further? The slider in the brightness bar is all the way down (left) yet at nights the light from backlights are too bright.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen using it, after a while (10 or 15 minutes perhaps) in which I haven't touched the keyboard, the brightness is suddenly reduced. Hitting any key, but not moving the mouse, brings the brightness back up again. After a while it does it again, and again seemingly at more frequent intervals. Eventually it comes to the point where even when I press a key the brightness stays low. I then have to right click on the desktop, choose Graphics Properties which brings up the Intel Graphics & Media Control Panel and reset the brightness from 0 to say 50%. It is usually OK after that for some time. There's nothing wrong with the monitor - when using it as an additional monitor with a laptop with Win XP its brightness remains unchanged for hours.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI use Pangobright because the brightness of my Toshiba laptop doesn't go as low as I want it to be, when I'm using the laptop in complete darkness. But Pangobright also doesn't seem to go as low as possible, and when I dim it too low, I can't see a part of the screen unless I'm looking down at the screen. Is there a better screen dimming software?

View 5 Replies View RelatedOn my monitor it seems like everything is too bright, as in places that should be pitch black are a bit too light. For example: on my iPod, even with full brightness settings everything looks normal, but on my PC's monitor it just doesn't look right.I calibrated color and setting gamma way low really helped, but my contrast is set to full, and my brightness is 75.The strange thing: when I ran Crysis 1, it fixed the monitor color! So I know the darn thing is capable, I just don't know how to.When I closed down Crysis it went back to normal.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I noticed that every time Windows 7 loads and I'm using my battery then plug into my AC adapter the brightness won't get brighter, I have to manually go into power options and drag the little indicator bar. I want it when on the AC adapter to have a full bright screen and when on the battery 50%. Well Windows 7 doesn't want to seem to remember that because after every boot both the battery and ac adapter will have brightness settings at 50%.
This is a Windows 7 problem and I was wondering if anyone has a solution.
ive just recently installed Windows 7 Build 7100 on my eMachines E525 laptop, & i can't adjust the screen brightness with the 'fn' key anymore.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've recently got a new computer laptop with Windows 7 and the first thing I noticed that the screen is much brighter (and maybe more saturated) than my previous laptop (with Windows XP). First I thought it was my laptop, but then I saw an other computer with Windows 7, and the screen there is very bright too. I searched the net and I see that there are more people complaining about the brightness on Windows 7.I understand that I can set the screen brightness, but it seems like a fact that the "default" brightness on Windows 7 is way brighter than on Windows XP. Some people are probably accustomed to this, but to me it's too much. I can decrease the brightness with the laptopl's controls on the keyboard, but I think that's not the way to go - I think I should look at the Windows 7 configuration. I could go to the ATI Catalyst, but is there an other way? Is the Calibration tool the only option?
View 6 Replies View RelatedBut in the last couple months, once in a blue moon I couldn't change my screen brightness, and now in the last couple days it's gotten a whole lot worse. Usually, I can't change brightness either via my 'fn -/+' hotkeys or via the actual brightness slider in the power panel. A full reboot or simple hibernation then reboot both let me change brightness again. But the last couple days, restarting the computer just puts the brightness on either fully dimmed or fully bright, and I still can't change it.
This is an HP G60 laptop, and I've had windows seven for a year on it. Like I said above it only started a couple months ago then got worse this week, and what I've found on google so far was all for newly-updated-to-seven issues. My drivers all seem to be up to date according to the windows update driver function.
how to get necessary drivers for incresing brightness?

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo here is my problem. I have an Acer Aspire 4540 laptop that I recently repaired after laying in my closet with a broken display for some time. So I took it to a repair center and got my new 14' LED display installed. Everything on my laptop is working fine, even my screen is working fine. The only issue I've noticed is that when I try to increase or decrease my screen brightness it cycles between the max and min settings rather than dimming or brightening respectively.
Now, I know I've had this issue before but I can't remember if it was already like this before the screen broke. I have tried rolling back, uninstalling and reinstalling my drivers several times yet the issue is still there.
Im running on Windows 7 Ultimate x86 and my graphics card is an ATI Radeon HD4200.
I know this is a small issue but I need to fix it since I spend a lot of time in front of my laptop.
I have a dell latitude d620 and one day the up and left keys magically stopped working.. later on I had the brightest idea to see whats the lowest level of brightness possible, now I'm pretty much screwed because I cannot get the brightness back up to normal (which is a pain in the rear end) using the FN+UP combination.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Elitebook HP 8530p, and it has a issue with the screen brightness. When put 100% (energy properties are at : high profile) the screen dims, but the % remains 100, however when manually setting to a lower then to max again the screen is bright (as it should be) This happens while i'm activly using the computer. (mouse/ keyboard interaction)I disabled every possible auto-dim feature I found. This happens at random moments but every 1-5 min it happens.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new Dell N311z I've noticed that when the brightness of my screen is anywhere between maximum and minimum it automatically decreases or increases on will, without me doing anything.
I've also noticed that when the background on the LCD is of a darker colour the brightness decreases and when it's a lighter background the brightness increases itself.
I've tried everything from disabling the ambient light sensor to calling up Dell customer care and after having spent 3 hours on doing what they made me do it still hasn't fixed my problem. I reset the laptop to the factory settings, i reinstalled all the drivers as well.
I have a Dell N311z. Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.
I often change power plan or (dis)connect the power cord depending on what I do with my laptop and where I am. Every time I do so, the display brightness changes into whatever it was last time I had the same power plan and AC power status. The display brightness has nothing to do with those settings. I adjust it manually to what I feel comfortable with in the current environment, and it's frustrating having it changed by some automatic setting that gets it wrong every time.I'm in a dark room, getting ready to watch a movie or something, everything set perfectly. Oh right, the power cord. Boom, instant 20% to 100% flash that kills my eyes. How do I disable this automatic adjusting and get full control over the brightness?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've bought new laptop recently, everything works great, but there is still one problem. If I am working without the charger, on battery, the screen brightness always jumps to maximum. I have it on 30% in my power plan, and there it stays as 30%, but the brightness is still on maximum. If I press FN+F4, I could decrease it for a couple of seconds, and then it goes up again by itself...
I have tried all possible settings in Windows, also have downloaded all new drivers (but there are not a lot of them as Inspiron 1564 is new model). I have found one possible reason also, there should be "Display Brightness" field in BIOS, but there is no such option in my version of BIOS.
I have VideoGenie (by MSI),it's automatically adjusts gamma level on real-time,useful when watching movies/videos,or playing games (in full screen).
I wonder if there is a similar program that auto adjusts the brightness/contrast?
The brightness settings on my NV53 gateway are no longer available. The fn up or down combination to change the brightness are no longer functioning however the keys are all working. (fn, up, down, all work fine separately) and when I go into the control panel, I cannot find any settings for brightness, this all happened at the same I got a google redirect virus 'gringo' an admin here, we've cured my virus.
