I have a dell latitude d620 and one day the up and left keys magically stopped working.. later on I had the brightest idea to see whats the lowest level of brightness possible, now I'm pretty much screwed because I cannot get the brightness back up to normal (which is a pain in the rear end) using the FN+UP combination.

The brightness settings on my NV53 gateway are no longer available. The fn up or down combination to change the brightness are no longer functioning however the keys are all working. (fn, up, down, all work fine separately) and when I go into the control panel, I cannot find any settings for brightness, this all happened at the same I got a google redirect virus 'gringo' an admin here, we've cured my virus.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am currently running Windows 7 RC1 and have noticed a behavioral change from XP which I would love to change.
In the NVIDIA control panel, there are 2 sets of settings for brightness:
1) Desktop color settings
2) Video color settings
In Windows XP, these would be completely independent. Thus for example, I could have my desktop dark while the videos could be bright and vivid.
Thus in XP:
Desktop Brightness = Desktop color settings
Video Brightness = Video color settings
In Windows 7, the OS only behaves this way when using Aero Basic. If I'm using the full Aero interface, I get the following behavior:
Desktop Brightness = Desktop color settings
Video Brightness = Desktop color settings + Video color settings
I would really love to have these control act independently on the full Aero interface. Is this possible? NVIDIA settings can obviously still distinguish the video because the video color settings still only apply to video, so I'm not sure why it behaves this way.
I just upgraded to windows 7 (rather a repaired version from windows 7) and why setting up, I was prompted to chose how to connect to my network. My computer has now been stuck in this pre-login network settings thing for over an hour now. I finally figured I'd cancel and fix it later, but there is no cancel. So i restarted my computer, only to have it start exactly where it left off. I was sure to completely turn off my computer, then it started over when I turned it back on. After unplugging my internet, it skipped the process.*

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I've been trying to solve this since it randomly started happening yesterday, but to no avail. I have a Samsung Q430 Intel i5 with Windows 7 x64 Home Premium (SP1), and the computer randomly started to lag, so I restarted it. It logged in successfully the first few times, but became extremely laggy after login, until it froze up completely each time. I then tried the recovery CD, and it worked the first time, but nothing changed, and it was still laggy. However, the computer could not even get past the black loading screen anymore, and began on a continuous reboot cycle, each time ending with a flash of a BSOD that I couldn't catch. It restarts to two options: Launch startup repair or Start windows normally, both of which end up freezing and restarting.I have tried:-Safe Mode (worked first time, but was laggy, and now it just freezes during loading)-Last Known good configuration (nothing happened)-Recovery CD (becomes stuck while trying to find the OS, says "Drive E: 0 bytes, windows 7 and never finishes loading)-Installation CD (stuck at entering setup screen)The only thing that really works is the Ubuntu Live CD.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI use Performance mode, and set it to NEVER turn off ANYTHING, including the monitor.I hit apply, etc etc.It will hold this setting for a while, then after a reboot, or turning off at night, it loses this setting, and reverts to turn off monitor after 20 minutes.Why is Windows 7 doing this?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows 7 7000 x64 on a quad core intel box. Most things have been working great but I have been having one annoying problem, the screensaver won't start, and neither will the power saving settings (i.e. turning off monitor, computer sleep)
Basically I am wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem and figured out what software or hardware could be causing it or if anyone knows of a tool to check what input is keeping the computer out of the idle state.
I have this Samsung Notebook and after using it for certain time, the PC crashed giving DOS sounds. When I started the PC again, I was at the boot screen asking me to choose the OS. Although my keyboard didn't worked. Now my PC is somewhat a brick. How can I solve this issue? What's the best way to restart the keyboard?

Recently my PC is getting stuck for no reason. While browsing, watching a movie, when I leave it idle for a while its getting stuck. Screen is as it was and I cannot move the cursor, keyboard isn't working. Then I restart it manually and go to the option "start windows normally" or something. This happened previously and I thought it has smthin to do with my HDD, but I checked it n re installed win7 64bit. It was working normally for about 3 months and now it started again.
When I change my date and clock settings it appears my windows shell common dll stop working. But when I connect to the internet for solving the problems nothing changed even I do it many times.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen using it, after a while (10 or 15 minutes perhaps) in which I haven't touched the keyboard, the brightness is suddenly reduced. Hitting any key, but not moving the mouse, brings the brightness back up again. After a while it does it again, and again seemingly at more frequent intervals. Eventually it comes to the point where even when I press a key the brightness stays low. I then have to right click on the desktop, choose Graphics Properties which brings up the Intel Graphics & Media Control Panel and reset the brightness from 0 to say 50%. It is usually OK after that for some time.There's nothing wrong with the monitor - when using it as an additional monitor with a laptop with Win XP its brightness remains unchanged for hours.

But Pangobright also doesn't seem to go as low as possible, and when I dim it too low, I can't see a part of the screen unless I'm looking down at the screen. For example: on my iPod, even with full brightness settings everything looks normal, but on my PC's monitor it just doesn't look right.I calibrated color and setting gamma way low really helped, but my contrast is set to full, and my brightness is 75.The strange thing: when I ran Crysis 1, it fixed the monitor color! I want it when on the AC adapter to have a full bright screen and when on the battery 50%. Well Windows 7 doesn't want to seem to remember that because after every boot both the battery and ac adapter will have brightness settings at 50%.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've recently got a new computer laptop with Windows 7 and the first thing I noticed that the screen is much brighter (and maybe more saturated) than my previous laptop (with Windows XP). First I thought it was my laptop, but then I saw an other computer with Windows 7, and the screen there is very bright too. I searched the net and I see that there are more people complaining about the brightness on Windows 7.I understand that I can set the screen brightness, but it seems like a fact that the "default" brightness on Windows 7 is way brighter than on Windows XP. Some people are probably accustomed to this, but to me it's too much. I can decrease the brightness with the laptopl's controls on the keyboard, but I think that's not the way to go - I think I should look at the Windows 7 configuration. I could go to the ATI Catalyst, but is there an other way? Is the Calibration tool the only option?
View 6 Replies View RelatedBut in the last couple months, once in a blue moon I couldn't change my screen brightness, and now in the last couple days it's gotten a whole lot worse. Usually, I can't change brightness either via my 'fn -/+' hotkeys or via the actual brightness slider in the power panel. A full reboot or simple hibernation then reboot both let me change brightness again. But the last couple days, restarting the computer just puts the brightness on either fully dimmed or fully bright, and I still can't change it.
This is an HP G60 laptop, and I've had windows seven for a year on it. Like I said above it only started a couple months ago then got worse this week, and what I've found on google so far was all for newly-updated-to-seven issues. My drivers all seem to be up to date according to the windows update driver function.
