When I change my date and clock settings it appears my windows shell common dll stop working. But when I connect to the internet for solving the problems nothing changed even I do it many times.
View 1 RepliesI installed Battlefield 3 right after Christmas and just today noticed that I was unable to access my mouse settings via Control Panel. I know that this is a small issue but I'm concerned that it might continue to grow. As I have updated a number of drivers and other programs since then I am reluctant to hit the restore button and loose half a day of work. Can I simply "repair" Windows shell and go on?I ran (as administrator) sfc/scannow and if found no integrity errors. I also ran Control Panel / Action Center / Maint / Review Reliability and found no issues

(I recently connected my SPDIF out to my receiver;I've also been having trouble getting my headphones to work again, but that's another problem) It's shown up in my Reliability Monitor and I've had the "Critical Event" "Windows Shell Common Dll" "Stopped Working" and it has reduced my reliability score from 10 to about 2. When I "Check for a solution" it says there aren't any available. I've checked all drivers and they are up to date. Any idea how to fix this? I've done alot of searching, and all i could find was one guy dl'ing a new SFComm64.dll file and replacing it in his system, which he said worked, but Windows 7 saw as a security threat (?). So, I'm not quite sure what to do - do I try and dl a new SFComm64.dll file? And if so, where do I dl from?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI had a file that had that open with format, I mistakenly changed it to a Windows Media Player format, and now can not change it back.I was thinking that I may have to reinstall the shell32.dll itself, but I saw the file on my computer. So maybe I should just find it in the Browse folder directory, then click okay and it's fix. Not sure completely where it is located or if that will work.

This takes up so much space especially when u have multiple toolbars, address bar etc @ the top not 2 mention the additional loss of space (of nothingness) @ the top. Leaves less working space than I'm happy with. How do I gain back the use of that half inch in the taskbar?Is it possible 2 gain back the lost area @ the top as well?.I have already gone to Properties and changed the settings there (use small icons). The right hand space on the touch pad doesn't scroll. Tried to change settings for the mouse but any attempt to change settings causes the window to stop responding. Message via task manager sez "windows common shell DII not responding".

my OS is Windows 7 64-bit. Lately, whenever I start my laptop, the computer clock at the bottom right hand side keep resetting back to 10th January 2008. Also if I do an immediate restart, this problem does not occur. I have to then manually change the computer clock.

I recently bought a maxtor 500 gb external hdd and i just cant get it to work with windows 7, i got a computer at home where i want to keep it that has windows 7 rc , I have tryed everything i can think of to make it work but nothing does, I cant see it in my computer or with the explorer, but I can see it with computer management, It doesn´t have a drive letter or NTFS and I just cant do anything to it, I cant format it then I get the error "An unexpected error has occured. check the system event log for more information on the error. View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently renewed my internet security subscription. Immediately after doing so, the Calendar and Weather gadgets stopped working. The Calendar shows up as a blank orange/white square and opening up the Weather gadget will just reveal the "i" information symbol and a X close button, neither of which actually work.
Clock gadget also stopped working but then after an hour later it started working again and has been working since. I have tried deleting/uninstalling the gadgets but that hasn't worked. I have tried several tricks with the Windows command prompt which doesn't work either.
I'm considering using an automatic system restore (I don't have any manual saved points to restore) on just the gadgets themselves. Is that the way to go, or is there something else I could try? I've decided to name it: McAfee. I didn't at first, because it's been my experience whenever I mention a problem and mention an antiviral program.
I mention McAfee because it's an odd thing: I've searched forums and have found that others have had the almost the same problem; except with them it happens when you UNINSTALL McAfee, not renew it. I've also found another possible solution that involves deleting a registry key, but I'm way too nervous to try that.
When I start the computer it all seems normal until the desktop appears and the icons load. Before I can do anything I get a pop up saying Windows Explorer has stopped working. I have the option to restart windows or check on line for a solution. Both options give the same results. View 2 Replies View RelatedIt initially started when I downloaded a torrent that was a folder containing a video. Once the download had completed I attempted to open the folder but I got the message "Windows Explorer has stopped working - windows is checking for a solution to the problem", then a different windows pops up with "Windows explorer is restarting". After a few seconds the start bar vanishes then comes back almost immediately. I thought that possible the folder I had downloaded was corrupt so tried deleting it, but when I right clicked on the folder I got the same. I used a program called Glary utilities to permanently delete the folder and that did the trick.A few days passed and I used utorrent to download another, different video, which was also contained in a folder, and I am having the same message come up on this one - "Windows Explorer has stopped working - windows is checking for a solution to the problem" This is the only folder, as far as I'm aware, that this happens with. One time when I tried to open it the following came up instead of the usual "windows explorer has stopped" - The instruction at 0x0a04b890 referenced memory at 0x033f3d0e. The memory could not be read. Click on OK to terminate this program. run scndisk, chkdisk, spybot S&D, malwarebytes, Avast and Microsoft security essentials and some registry cleaners/fixers but nothing has helped. I also downloaded a program called "WER_Explorer" which apparently creates a dump file whenever the error occurs, but I can't open make any sense of it all. I downlaoded the above program from [URL]. I can access the folder when I run in safe mode, and the folder is shared on a home network and I can access it from my laptop.
