I have been getting Windows Shell Common DLL crashes when accessing and modifying properties in my Sound Panel. (I recently connected my SPDIF out to my receiver;I've also been having trouble getting my headphones to work again, but that's another problem) It's shown up in my Reliability Monitor and I've had the "Critical Event" "Windows Shell Common Dll" "Stopped Working" and it has reduced my reliability score from 10 to about 2. When I "Check for a solution" it says there aren't any available. I've checked all drivers and they are up to date. Any idea how to fix this? I've done alot of searching, and all i could find was one guy dl'ing a new SFComm64.dll file and replacing it in his system, which he said worked, but Windows 7 saw as a security threat (?). So, I'm not quite sure what to do - do I try and dl a new SFComm64.dll file? And if so, where do I dl from?

I installed Battlefield 3 right after Christmas and just today noticed that I was unable to access my mouse settings via Control Panel. I know that this is a small issue but I'm concerned that it might continue to grow. As I have updated a number of drivers and other programs since then I am reluctant to hit the restore button and loose half a day of work. Can I simply "repair" Windows shell and go on?I ran (as administrator) sfc/scannow and if found no integrity errors. I also ran Control Panel / Action Center / Maint / Review Reliability and found no issues

I had a file that had that open with format, I mistakenly changed it to a Windows Media Player format, and now can not change it back.I was thinking that I may have to reinstall the shell32.dll itself, but I saw the file on my computer. So maybe I should just find it in the Browse folder directory, then click okay and it's fix. Not sure completely where it is located or if that will work.

The only way I can scroll is to hold the right button down on the vert slider and drag the curser. Release the button and scrolling stops. The right hand space on the touch pad doesn't scroll. Tried to change settings for the mouse but any attempt to change settings causes the window to stop responding. Message via task manager sez "windows common shell DII not responding".

Previously there were no issues in opening PDF files using AR. Then I could not open PDF files. I uninstalled and reinstalled AR twice I forced W7 to associate PDF files with AR I drank 7 cups of coffee while considering an alternate calling in life - perhaps an island without computers None of the above has helped. I still cannot open PDF files on this machine. I have not purchased the tickets to the computer-free island as yet s

About 2 weeks ago I made a mistake cleaning up installer files. I'd made this same mistake last year but didn't realize it right away and it caused all my MSO links to stop working unless I launched the root program. That time I re-installed MSO14 and it corrected everything. This time I caught the problem almost immediately, as files I r.clicked on launched a Win Installer window, which I had to cancel or wait to resolve, and another popup asked for a disc to a program, and after canceling that the normal popup menu arrived. I only had to do this once with my Opus Directory program (replacement for Explorer).
I restored the files I'd cleaner and a registry b/u but some damage remained. For whatever reason, MSO would not allow re-install although it was registered in CP. Other programs I wanted to remove would no uninstall. Windows update was having problems with NET Framework 4 update. (Solved that by repairing the file). So I have this ongoing problem with Explorer no program association, can't d.click on links to open files in MSO, and Win Installer trying to launch on r.clicks or d.clicks on files. I've search the net extensively on these problems and seen many similar complaints about various programs showing the "no program associated" error etc. But no solid solutions.
I believe the problem is in Explorer and I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to repair Explorer. There is a possibility Explorer itself is OK, because when doing a re-image this weekend to go back to the 15th and start over, explorer opened when needed by the MS engine behind restore operations. The other possibility is with Installer, but I've updated the Installer and various other things to no avail. Finally there is MSO and something corrupt there.

This question is exactly what I am looking for, I think, but I do not understand the answer.I can give two examples of times when I should be able to send an email from a program but instead get an error message that no email program is associated and I should create an association through Default Programs. One example is in the program Living Cookbook from Radison Technologies. I should be able to email a recipe to a friend right from the application.Another example is the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) website. Committee members don't have email addresses that I can see and copy; instead, they have live links showing only the person's name, which I am supposed to click on to bring up and email already addressed and ready to compose. For me, it only brings up the no email association message.I understand a little about file associations and know, when installing a program, to watch out for them......... however, I cannot figure out to use the Default Programs to make the required

I'm fairly new to Win7 Home Premium64. When I try to create a screen shot, I use "print screen" , then open "Paint" and select "paste". The desired image appears but from that point on I can't copy and paste into gmail. I would like to send the screen shot via email using my Gmail Application.
The message I'm getting is: "There is no email program associated to perform the requested action and that I need to "create an association in the default program control panel".
I have no idea about how to create that association in the default control panel. As far as I can see, the image that has been pasted in "Paint" is a PNG file. I have looked through all of the settings in gmail but can't find any place to "create that association".

When installing windows 7 Home Edition 64bit, my computer finishes the "Copying Windows files" in 1 second, and then goes off to the "Expanding Windows files" part. Once it is at 50%(every time), my computer says an error code and a message about corrupt files ect(Error code: 0x80070570). I have been struggling after trying to format my desktop for a clean install of Windows 7 Home Edition 64bit. changing modes from SATA to AHCI, cancelling the install and without rebooting restart the install, and putting down the graphics to 640x480. It has been quite a pain and ruined my weekend and I was hoping that someone else could propose a new solution since nothing has worked. Instead of using a cd, I am using a USB(changing boot priority in the bios to USB, changing the USB to NTFS format ect...), since I currently do not have a SATA CD reader. P.S: The specs of my computer if needed will be posted below:Intel Core i3 540@3.07Ghz eVGA P55v SLI 2x2GB OCZ Platinum DDR3-1600 9-9-9-24 1.35V Dual Channel Palit Sonic GTX 260 Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB 7200RPM 32MB Dual Proc SATA BIOS v02.67?

Experienced PC users know that not every operating-system upgrade goes smoothly--but that bit of understanding does little to offset the annoyance we feel when we're faced with seemingly unresolvable installation problems. Windows 7 has presented some users with a few serious upgrade bugs of its own. Don't worry: We'll explain how to exterminate them.
Before beginning your Windows 7 upgrade, attach your PC directly to your router via a wired ethernet connection. This will ensure that Windows 7 has a chance to download the latest installation updates directly from Microsoft at the outset of the upgrade process. By the time you read this article, it's possible that Microsoft will have created a fix for some of the following upgrade bugs, so your first step in any upgrade scenario should be to make sure that you have a wired Internet hookup to your PC from the start. More of this seen at: Fix the Most Common Windows 7 Upgrade Problems - PC World Business Center
This one covers the following problems.
Installation Hangs at 62 Percent
Endless Reboots
