i have this win 7 system listed above, BUT, i just loaded the win XP mode (shell) virtual PC program yesterday and made it work fine. i even loaded the norton and firefox, just fine. Today i went to use it and the first thing i went to do was change my original dorky password. in the 'change password' window, i typed my old password and then hit 'enter', which i thought would make the password into a 'blank' enter key.

When I installed my system, I did not set a password. Now, I need to run a command as administrator... and it will not accept a blank password field!

I cannot log in after recovering from sleep mode. I receive an 'Incorrect username or password error'. I confirmed I am using the correct username and password (CAPS is off). I found I am able to log in after selecting 'switch user' and then attempting to log in again, so I believe Windows is getting confused. The PC is on a domain so I cannot turn off the option for it to prompt for a password, and I do not wish to turn off the option for sleep mode in order to save power.

I recently installed windows 7 64 bit on my computer. Its been fine. But last night I went to sleep, and when I woke up my computer was in this mode thing. I have no idea what it is. It says "startup.nsh" I tried it nothing happens, and press ESC in 5...4...3...2...1 seconds, but doesn't work either

A friend of mine has lost his password for his laptop. He has 3 users set up on the laptop and decided to use the same password on all 3. He then forgot it. I have tried to use safe mode but it still asks me for a password.He doesn't have a password reset disk.I'm looking for some software to maybe rest it or delete the password.

iv got 4 computers and they all run win 7 none off them need the security of having to put a password in on start up and its quite annoying/time consuming is there any way to bypass this or loging automaticly without having to enter the password?befor you tell me to remove the password:this would make 3 of the pcs less usefull and turn one computer (the sever) into a brick with fans so please dont tell me to change my account settings to remove the passwords?

I bought a used Windows 7 PC, turns out there are two accounts on it, both require a password. I am only able to get on using Guest, which won't allow me to do any changes to the PC because the UAC is turned on and it is requiring a password to move forth. I don't have a Windows 7 disc so unable to format..

I just sent up a brand new PC and went through the Windows setup steps. It asked me to reboot and I did so. I must have mis-typed my password while creating my user account, because I now cannot login to the computer. Seeing as I JUST got it booted up for the first time I hadn't had an opportunity to create another administrator account or password reset disk.

I have installed Windows 7 x64 ultimate several times, and I still get BSD in sporadic manner just before the windows login password I tried to follow all ur instruction to provide you with the data but I failed completely to make the "perfmon" work. As I have this famous error of the report generate tool is not being able to start I tried all the tricks with user defined ones and disbaling services, still no success.Though I provided the xml files generated by the perfmon tool anyhow, I guess it has the right information but in different format? Trials I did:
1- Just after Win installation I didn't get any BSD
2- After installing all drivers and SP1, the BSD started
here is the other info needed:
Dell Inspiron N5110
Win 7 x64 bit Ultimate
Retail version
Brand new laptop
Fresh installation of win 7
Note: in one of the BSD I got a specific file mentioned , athrx.sys but other BSD didn't have file specified?

My brother recently bought a Dell laptop (Inspiron N5110). He created a password for his user account, and when he went to login during his next session, the password didn't work. The 'Create Password' field had two entry boxes, so the probability of an error in the password is quite small. I have tried various password reset/recovery programs, but when I boot with the program, the user account is not displayed. Thus, I cannot reset or recover the password. Booting in Safe Mode has been tried, but it also requires input of the user's password. Booting to the last safe configuration doesn't help, as there is nothing (apparent) wrong with the actual system.

I have a Toshiba laptop running Windows 7 home premium. I changed the password a few days ago and changed the computer name yesterday. After restart to get the computer name change to take, I can't login to the computer. I did not setup an admin acct and can't login that way. I tried F8 system repair to reset to factory settings but a password is required. I went to F2 and set a user password on security, but it only works to get into the function keys. I would like suggestions of what to do to get into my laptop. I didn't get a restore disc with the machine, but created a restore on an external hard drive.

My computer has started to have some odd issues. It is a Thinkpad T61P running windows professional 7 64 bit. The first issues was that windows updates failed to install 5 new updates yesterday. Im not sure what the updates were, but failed due to windows not having access to the files (according to the error code and MS) MS suggested running windows update in safe mode. When I restart in safe mode the machine will restart at the login screen after a few seconds. One or twice I've been able to type in my password, but it says the password is incorrect and restarts.I tried using msconfig to get it to start in safe mode that way and now im stuck in an endless loop. I didnt realize that It wouldnt start up normal after a restart.Also, I recently replaced the thermal paste on the cpu and gpu because of some overheating issues. The overheating issue was fixed.

When I try to start up Windows normally, I type in my password for the user account and then it just freezes, it doesn't load. So I think, okay, I'll just try to start up it in Safe Mode, no problem. But when I try to start it in Safe Mode the computer freezes at classpnp.sys and doesn't continue. I'm at a loss about what to do.
My computer is a Gateway Desktop, running Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit), intel premium processor, 1 TB hard drive, 6 GB DDR3 memory. I tried using the "Last Known Good Config" option, to no avail. I got the "Replacing invalid security ID" message. I let that go for about an hour when I stopped it, as it was going nowhere. If it makes any difference, I have also installed another operating system (Ubuntu).

My father has a laptop that he received from his work. My father works at a high school and the school is currently closed for the summer vacation. All of the technicians are on vacation now and the school board is also closed. There is no technician to help my father. The computer technician has set up his user name and password. It has been working for the last few months but suddenly, a few days ago, when he types in his password, he gets the message that his username or password are incorrect.
I have tried starting it up on safe mode, but it is still asking for his login and it is still incorrect. I have tried logging into the administrator password but it is not a blank password and nothing I have put in works. I have also tried switching user but there is no other user. I have tried restoring the computer but it states that I need to have administrator clearance to restore. I have the windows 7 disk but I am unsure how to activate it. My father has not made a password restore disk and when I tried to follow the instructions of saving the password on a usb or a disk, it did not work because I did not have the password disk.
I am currently trying to reinstall Windows 7, as that is what a lot of forums were telling me to do but it is taking forever. I am hearing people tell me to download recovery tools, but I have no idea how to do this as the only computer I have currently is my father's computer, which I cannot get onto the internet! (I am typing from an ipod). How do I download ISOs and recovery files when I cannot access the internet?

When my partner set up my brand new PC he set up an account in my name, so there are now two accounts on the machine, Admin and Mine. I can use my account for most daily things, but I need to be the Administrator because I don't have rights to do some stuff. Problem is he's forgot the Admin password .... so I can't log in as the Admin. What can I do? How do I change this password?

I'm having an issue with logging back in after I hibernate the system. It goes to the login page where I enter in my password. The problem is everytime I type in my password, it tells me that I've typed the wrong password. I try to "switch user" and login from there (not sure what the difference is), and that doesn't work either. I always end up having to restart the computer. Then when it gets to the login page, I type in the exact password that I tried to type before, and it works. It's only right after I hibernate that the password stops working.

I have a Sony Vaio laptop running Windows 7. I switched it on this morning, got the usual login screen but without the welcome noise. I can't enter my password, the key strokes I'm entering just don't register on the screen. I've switched off and switched back on and no joy. I've gone to Safe Mode and just get the same problem, I can't type my password, the flashing cursor doesn't move in the password box. I've pressed F8 and tried to load the last good configuration but just get the same problem.

I installed Windows 7 x64 on my laptop a few months ago, so I'm the admin on that system. As I'm the sole user, I never enabled any sort of login; it just boots right to the desktop. Now I'm getting ready to take a trip, and I'll be packing the laptop in my checked luggage, so I think it would be a good idea to require a login password in case the laptop disappears. How do I enable that, and how do I disable it when I'm back home? As an aside, is this adequate security (assuming a strong pwd)? I assume someone would have to reformat the disk and reinstall Windows to make the laptop usable again, but what do I know?
