Is there a way to automatically position the cursor on the password field after reawakening from the screensaver ? It is a PITA having to always position the mouse cursor to the password field.
View 4 RepliesI recently upgraded to Windows 7 from XP. I have discovered that I now can no longer cut/copy & paste a password into the pop up username/password window in IE. I used to be able to do this in XP, but in Win7 when i paste I see many more asterisks than there are letters in the password I am trying to paste and the password is never accepted by the web page. Apparently this is a "security" feature, but I just find it an annoyance

Boot up computer, get the windows password field, put in pw, next screen is a cross-hatch (vertical and horizontal lines) of various colors. Cursor doesn't work, nothing works, manually shut the computer down. On rebooting, everything is OK??? Nothing appears to be wrong with my monitor (Samsung 193P), or any other functions of computer.

Essentially I cannot install anything, as it requires User Account Control verification, but the password field for the admin pass does not show up, so the only option each time is to click 'No' and cancel the installation. I assume this is because there is no admin password set. I tried for a long while previously, I have tried to enter using safe mode and try and disable UAC, yet when doing so the UAC actually pops up in sade mode without the pass field again. I have also tried using Offline NT Registor and Password Editor to create a new pass for the admin, yet no luck as the admin afterwards doesn't require a pass nor does the pass field in the UAC show.

Phenom II x4 955 CPU
ASRock 870 Extreme 3 motherboard
Corsair vengeance 8gb RAM
An 850 OCZ PSU
a HDRadeon 6870 GPU
and a basic optical drive
Also, I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit OS
A while ago, my brother was playing some hardcore HoN on my computer. When the game ended, the screen turned black and i was forced to restart the entire thing. I get past the windows logo just fine and even hear the "welcome" sound as the OS starts up. Then, nothing. The screen just turns black with nothing but the cursor. I am able to move it around and everything but cannot do anything. Ctrl-alt-del doesnt work either.
So, i restarted again and this time went into safe mode and tried to check things out. I updated my graphics drivers (which were in no need of an update) and then restarted it again. Still nothing! I tried this multiple times, uninstalling, reinstalling, took a break. When I came back, I decided to boot from the disc and start afresh. I went through the process of setting up the OS and all the motherboard drivers (and the GPU drivers)...
I was able to login and download firefox and a couple of other security programs. I thought I had done enough and windows needed to be restarted to finish its update so I decided to restart again... The same black screen with the cursor! I have tried everything I know and I don't want to be stuck in safe mode forever!
I was surfing the net this morning and in the background i was installing "Logmein". I assume the website i got it off is legit as many of my friends have it installed it to play networked games. This is the website i downloaded it from [URL] Whilst it was installing my laptop froze and ctrl + alt + del wouldn't work so i turned it off by holding down the power button and then turned it back on. It now loads up a screen that says "Windows error recovery" and has an option to "Launch Startup Repair" or "Start windows normally" . whichever one i select the outcome is the same... a screen that says "windows is loading files..." followed by a blank login screen with only the cursor for company as shown in the image below: [URL]
I have no idea what to do and this is the first real problem i haven't been able to solve in the 2 years ive had it.
I have tried every option in the "Advanced Boot Options" (F8 on startup) menu in the hope that something different would happen but every single time is identical to the last. I am running windows 7 premium x64 bit on the Sony Vaio VGN-NW20SF. My laptop didn't come with a windows 7 disk so i cant reformat it. I havent backed it up for a while and there are files i would like to keep if possible.
My computer loads normally to the login screen. I enter my password and press enter.It displays the welcome message with the spinning circle thing, and seems to load correctly. When finished, it is at this point my screen goes black showing only the cursor which I can move. When I hover over where the taskbar should be, the screen dims a bit. When I move away from the 'invisible' taskbar, the screen brightens to it's original state. This leads me to believe that the desktop may be loaded, but for some reason is not displaying. After about a minute, everything displays and the computer works perfectly. Occasionally, there is not an issue, and the desktop loads perfectly, seconds after logging in.

All of the technicians are on vacation now and the school board is also closed. There is no technician to help my father. The computer technician has set up his user name and password. It has been working for the last few months but suddenly, a few days ago, when he types in his password, he gets the message that his username or password are incorrect.
I have tried starting it up on safe mode, but it is still asking for his login and it is still incorrect. I have tried logging into the administrator password but it is not a blank password and nothing I have put in works. I have also tried switching user but there is no other user. I have tried restoring the computer but it states that I need to have administrator clearance to restore. I have the windows 7 disk but I am unsure how to activate it. My father has not made a password restore disk and when I tried to follow the instructions of saving the password on a usb or a disk, it did not work because I did not have the password disk.
I am currently trying to reinstall Windows 7, as that is what a lot of forums were telling me to do but it is taking forever. I am hearing people tell me to download recovery tools, but I have no idea how to do this as the only computer I have currently is my father's computer, which I cannot get onto the internet! (I am typing from an ipod). How do I download ISOs and recovery files when I cannot access the internet?
My laptop has a finger print scanner which I never installed the driver for until now.Basicly the login screen asks for a password, I didn't set a password only my finger print.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having an issue with logging back in after I hibernate the system. It goes to the login page where I enter in my password. The problem is everytime I type in my password, it tells me that I've typed the wrong password. I try to "switch user" and login from there (not sure what the difference is), and that doesn't work either. I always end up having to restart the computer. Then when it gets to the login page, I type in the exact password that I tried to type before, and it works. It's only right after I hibernate that the password stops working.

I can't enter my password, the key strokes I'm entering just don't register on the screen. I've switched off and switched back on and no joy. I've gone to Safe Mode and just get the same problem, I can't type my password, the flashing cursor doesn't move in the password box. As I'm the sole user, I never enabled any sort of login; it just boots right to the desktop. Now I'm getting ready to take a trip, and I'll be packing the laptop in my checked luggage, so I think it would be a good idea to require a login password in case the laptop disappears. How do I enable that, and how do I disable it when I'm back home? As an aside, is this adequate security (assuming a strong pwd)? I assume someone would have to reformat the disk and reinstall Windows to make the laptop usable again, but what do I know?

Up to two days ago I could instantly access my Hotmail account from the weblink in Bing or from a link that I have saved to my Favorites. As I have this famous error of the report generate tool is not being able to start I tried all the tricks with user defined ones and disbaling services, still no success.Though I provided the xml files generated by the perfmon tool anyhow, I guess it has the right information but in different format? Trials I did:
1- Just after Win installation I didn't get any BSD
2- After installing all drivers and SP1, the BSD started
here is the other info needed:
Dell Inspiron N5110
Win 7 x64 bit Ultimate
Retail version
Brand new laptop
Fresh installation of win 7
Note: in one of the BSD I got a specific file mentioned , athrx.sys but other BSD didn't have file specified?
You can change the lock/boot screen on Windows 7 by adding the following key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE]SoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionAuthenticationLogonUIBackground
Add a DWord value to that key of OEMBackground = 1.
Finally, create a JPG < 250k of the correct size for your default resolution named backgroundDefault.jpg and place it in:
C:WindowsSystem32oobeinfoBackgrounds
Now when you lock or boot you will have a customized image.
