This has happened mabe 2-3 times. Boot up computer, get the windows password field, put in pw, next screen is a cross-hatch (vertical and horizontal lines) of various colors. Cursor doesn't work, nothing works, manually shut the computer down. On rebooting, everything is OK??? Nothing appears to be wrong with my monitor (Samsung 193P), or any other functions of computer.

I used to be able to do this in XP, but in Win7 when i paste I see many more asterisks than there are letters in the password I am trying to paste and the password is never accepted by the web page. Apparently this is a "security" feature, but I just find it an annoyance

Essentially I cannot install anything, as it requires User Account Control verification, but the password field for the admin pass does not show up, so the only option each time is to click 'No' and cancel the installation. I assume this is because there is no admin password set. I tried for a long while previously, I have tried to enter using safe mode and try and disable UAC, yet when doing so the UAC actually pops up in sade mode without the pass field again. I have also tried using Offline NT Registor and Password Editor to create a new pass for the admin, yet no luck as the admin afterwards doesn't require a pass nor does the pass field in the UAC show.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a desktop machine that is connected to my work domain. Most days it works fine, but after the machine has been sitting idle for a couple days and I can't login. I hit Ctrl Alt Delete, then enter my username and password, but then it takes me back to the Ctrl Alt Delete page without any error messages.I can still access the C drive over the network but I just can't log on. I also tried using Remote Desktop from another machine but had no success.I think it's hardware related, because I have two identical machines and they are both behaving like this. However, all of the drivers have been updated, including the BIOS, and I've got all the latest Windows updates on there too.

I want to connect to my servers using Windows 7 Remote Desktop, but I would really like to do so in MORE than 256 colors.
Everyone I see online is asking how to get it to only display in 256 colors. Well mine will only display in 256 mode and I want it in full color if possible.
I checked the display setting in Remote Desktop and it's set to 32bit, but it never actually does show that way.
Edit: I should mention these servers are mostly running Windows Server 2003 if that makes a difference.
i have a fairly new laptop with windows 7 (i can't remember which version), and i was wondering how to change the colors, if that makes sense. The laptop came installed with some default color scheme which i liked, but when i tried to watch a movie with Windows Media center it changed it to "windows 7 basic". it does this every time i use the program, but until now it has all ways automatically changed back
View 5 Replies View RelatedToday I remembered the name of a game I played when I was quite young, one of the first games I played. It is called the neverhood, and was around at the sort of time when windows 95 was the latest OS. I managed to find a copy today and was all excited to play this game, but the colours are really strange, certain shades are fluorescent pink, green, yellow, etc while other lighter shades are the colour they are meant to be. I can only assume this is because I am using the wrong colour depth or something, the problems were lessened when I set my colour depth to 16bit, but still not solved.

Instead, the screen enter energy saving mode and the system continues to remain active for about 10 minutes before turning off. As long as my system does not enter sleep mode, it works just fine. I've spent hours Google searching and burning bootable discs to no avail. What I've found out is that Partition Magic seems to be the only software in the universe that can change your drive letters around. I tried changing the drive letters through something in Windows DOS in Windows Recovery but that didn't work on the reboot. Supposedly, the Partition Magic CD itself is bootable, but to create a bootable CD from scratch it's a downright nightmare.

Most of our employees work from home or are out of state in small, temporary offices. Currently, if a user gets a virus or has a BSOD (or any other issue), and I can't remote to the laptop over the Internet, I have to setup a new laptop at headquarters and ship it to their location. I need a solution that will allow me to re-install our custom image to the laptop, with no CDs or thumb drives. Possible a hidden partition on the laptop that contains a WIM file. Then I can walk the user through a couple simple .bat command that would initiate the re-install of the OS (we have the user's data backed up so that is not an issue).

Today when I started the PC, everything went fine but when I installed The Sims 3 and started it, the PC froze and there were some mixed colors (more like medium length lines, red, purple, green, blue, pink etc. ) on the upper left and bottom right corner of the screen. Problem:
When I boot from the Windows 7 DVD the installation screen comes up in 8 colours only and the screen res looks like 640x480 on a screen that normally runs at 1600 x 1024 (this is what the original Windows XP installation ran).
Windows XP ran fine and did not have any of these problems (with the installer).
I am reluctant to proceed with the installer as I would prefer to iron out this problem before pushing on with the complete install.
Has anyone else seen this?

I have tried all of the control panel settings that I think would affect the cursor like themes and mouse pointer settings. This is my wife's computer and she told me that it started doing that a few weeks ago. I am not aware of any new programs except the usual Windows updates and anti-virus updates.
