View 1 RepliesI experience this issue on one PC with RC installed and on another one with RTM.Whenever I enter a special folder with 5 or 6 wave-files, explorer.exe uses 100% cpu-power and it's memory usage goes up to 2 gigs.It takes a long time to get to the taskmanager and kill the process.I've found some forum-posts of users who experience the same issue on Vista and Win 7 but never an answer.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm just setting up a new computer, and not used to the keyboard. When I was installing the operating system I was asked for a User name. Before I had a chance to do anything it had accepted the name GREU and moved on to the next step.I've tried doing a search in regedit for GREU, changed it in one place, but its still showing up all over. Is there a complete fix to this or should I resign myself to being known as Greu for the next few years?
View 4 Replies View Related After a successful installation of Windows 7, I have the following irritating problem:
Some data needs to be entered after each boot or even more frequently.
For instance, the username/password for the "Dial-UP/VPN" Internet connection is not kept across boots.
The setting of the desktop is not kept (e.g., the size of desktop icons).
This seems to be a system-wide permissions' problem to write to a certain directory (e.g., a directory where the system keeps the data is read only).
Can you suggest in which directory/file Windows 7 keeps desktop settings and login credentials - so I could check this directory/file permissions ?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to stop my browser from entering my user name - it is not entering my password. While rummaging around on the computer I came across the Credential Manager and removed all of the Generic Credentials (there was nothing in the first two vaults). I then went online to see if that would work - No. I went to my Live Mail and DID have to put in my password to have the Live Mail program open. I went to the Credential Manager to see what that password logon created. It created the email address user name and 13 Windows Livetoken):name=(my email address;ser... Then I can't read the rest. What are those 13 (token)s?

I can select sleep from the start up menu but it instantly turns back on. I went into device manager and deselected all usb and my wireless mouse and keyboard from waking the computer. Still won't sleep but now can enter sleep mode from the start menu and will stay asleep. However won't enter sleep by inactivity. If I unplug the usb receiver the computer will enter sleep like it use to. What going on? Even changed the batteries, because this happened a year ago and it was becuase they were dying

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have noticed that my desktop will not enter sleep mode. Instead, the screen enter energy saving mode and the system continues to remain active for about 10 minutes before turning off. As long as my system does not enter sleep mode, it works just fine. According to the dump file, the issue is caused by ntoskrnl.exe and an errormessageDRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI encountered a pretty bad error, but I feel like it's only because when transferring over my system image it did so by going from C --> to D. I've spent hours Google searching and burning bootable discs to no avail. What I've found out is that Partition Magic seems to be the only software in the universe that can change your drive letters around. I tried changing the drive letters through something in Windows DOS in Windows Recovery but that didn't work on the reboot. Supposedly, the Partition Magic CD itself is bootable, but to create a bootable CD from scratch it's a downright nightmare.

I keep getting BSOD when I try to put my 5 year old HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop in sleep mode, by either tapping the power button, or going through the start menu. This started happening a couple days ago, after Windows did an update.
I've done a system file check and it came up clean, and I also updated my video drivers, but to no avail. I don't really know where to go from here.
Recently when entering sleep mode, the laptop does not go to sleep but crashes. When I go to restart the laptop, I get the windows as recovered from an unexpected shut down. However I have noticed it does not crash, when I first turn the laptop on and at the choose user screen. Here it goes to sleep fine and resumes fine, any other situation and it crashes.

This problem has started recently. Moreover, new software and drivers have not been installed. When I put my computer into sleep mode, it immediately restarts itself, and when it restarts, it produces the Windows Did Not Shut Down Properly error.

After restarting I have a lot of (15) errors in system log:

Several days ago I have updated my bios and some drivers, so I suspect that the reason may be some driver.
I have dell latitude e4310 notebook running Win7x64 SP1.
This has happened mabe 2-3 times. Boot up computer, get the windows password field, put in pw, next screen is a cross-hatch (vertical and horizontal lines) of various colors. Cursor doesn't work, nothing works, manually shut the computer down. On rebooting, everything is OK??? Nothing appears to be wrong with my monitor (Samsung 193P), or any other functions of computer.

I have a desktop machine that is connected to my work domain. Most days it works fine, but after the machine has been sitting idle for a couple days and I can't login. I hit Ctrl Alt Delete, then enter my username and password, but then it takes me back to the Ctrl Alt Delete page without any error messages.I can still access the C drive over the network but I just can't log on. I also tried using Remote Desktop from another machine but had no success.I think it's hardware related, because I have two identical machines and they are both behaving like this. However, all of the drivers have been updated, including the BIOS, and I've got all the latest Windows updates on there too.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install Windows 7 on my notebook. It currently has Vista and the computer will not boot up at all. It will not let me go into safe mode, or even system recovery. The memory and hard drive are both fine (based on the tests.) a) Connect to the machine remotely via RDP (i.e, I am connecting to this machine from an outside computer), when I get to explorer..
b) Run any sort of full screen application, for this example let's say Valve's Half Life engine, although everything else does it too, and then Alt-Tab back to Explorer..
Then when I return to Explorer it is hanging -- the mouse shows the busy wheel on the task bar, and it never returns. I can click, I'll be told I can check for solutions and close the program, and voila -- explorer is killed and restarted, all is well.
I have: Replaced the display drivers, no effect Insured the installation is up to date, no effect Sweared at it, no effect Installed windbg, saved a dump file, realized I'm not a developer, cried into a pillow, no effect

Anyone managed to get this to work? For anyone not familiar its a UMPC, currently running XP Pro. I created a new partition for Win 7 (x86 RC) and installed it there.
It went through the installation and various reboots until it said it was finished but now just hangs during the final reboot. I've tried safe mode - same thing.
Anyone had more success? Is there anything else I can do during booting or install to try and diagnose the issue? I am assuming its a hardware or driver issue.
I've successfully installed on several other desktops and laptops its just this one giving the problem.
Is it worth trying a newer build?
The upgrade has been hanging on the final step "Transferring files, settings, and programs" (58%)...
It has been at that point for approx. 12 hours. The three dots after the percentage continue to appear and disappear which makes it looks like it is processing, but no progress.
How do I get out that this and complete the upgrade?
When I log into any administrator account, after the "Welcome" screen finishes, it hangs for about 6 seconds on a black screen (if aero is enabled) and a 'windows blue color' screen (if classic theme is enables)

After Windows boots everything is peppy and ready like it was! I don't understand!
