When I log into any administrator account, after the "Welcome" screen finishes, it hangs for about 6 seconds on a black screen (if aero is enabled) and a 'windows blue color' screen (if classic theme is enables)
View 6 RepliesI'm using Windows7 Ultimate 64bit system. My windows explorer goes completely unresponsive after starting up my computer. Even the task manager doesn't open. I have to re-log in twice to get it straight(using ctrl+alt+del). This happened for 3 days and now it started going insanely slow while i'm working and it recovers only if I log out and come back.

Removed all recently installed programs but no use. Boot option Debug hangs right at the start. All device drivers seem to be having no problem going by info with Device Manager.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWoke up today to find my computer (which I never turn off) sitting at the login screen saying "Please Wait..." I've seen it say that before, but only when you'd type your password incorrectly and it hangs for a second before it goes back to the login screen. Anyway, when I type my password in and click login the system just hangs at the "Welcome" screen. I left it for over and hour and came back, still hanging. I've seen older threads on here suggesting to enable "boot log" after pressing f8, that did nothing.
I am able to log into the computer on an old admin account that I created over a year ago, it's never been used, it works fine. Acts like a fresh install and only half my programs are there unfortunately. However, programs can be reinstalled. My biggest problem is that when I go into my files on the old account while logged into my fresh account I can access everything after gaining access, but when I try to open "Desktop" from the old account the system just Hangs, just like it does while trying to log into my normal account.
When I right click to examine the properties of "desktop" on the normal account, it says 0 bytes, in fact 0 everything, like it doesn't exist. This is really bad because a lot of my work is saved in folders on my desktop and I need the data from there. When I logged into the new account and gained access to my files and saw that I could read everything fine in my documents I had a sigh of relief figuring that all I would have to do would be a re-install or continue on a new account. Doesn't it just figure that the desktop folder isn't working?
My laptop hands at the Welcome screen...has done this before once or twice, but today it does not straighten out after restarting. I am not tech savvy...plus I am 70 years old and skittish about trying some of the suggestions I read on here
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have had multiple instances now where Windows 7 hung after I started up and logged into an account. It seems to happen when I try to start a program by double-clicking on it. For example, it has hung when I tried to start CCleaner or Firefox. When I get into this state, Ctrl-Alt-Del does nothing. In some cases, I can right-click on the Taskbar and choose "Task Manager," but it won't run (I just get the hourglass cursor). Today I tried to start Firefox and nothing happened, and the hourglass cursor shows in the Taskbar, so I can't even see the menu for the Task Manager.
This is happening on a Toshiba laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. It seems to occur when I don't wait long enough for the login to finish. When it happens, the only way out is to hold down the power key until it shuts off the system. Of course Windows is too stupid to tell me when it is done loading stuff into memory and starting its services; why can't they simply tell me when the login process is done and the system is ready to use? I find it infuriating that a supposedly multi-threaded, multi-tasking operating system can be so flaky. But enough of my rant; on to the possible cause:
I strongly suspect that my problems may be caused by SpySweeper, since it seems to be the last program that loads at login. (Or at least it's the last one to put up an annoying splash screen.) I use the following programs on my machine:
Windows Defender
Avast! Antivirus
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
SuperAntiSpyware
Spybot Search & Destroy
SpySweeper
I have read that SpySweeper sometimes conflicts with other programs, so I turned off real-time protection for Windows Defender. I have read conflicting opinions on whether SpySweeper conflicts with Spybot's TeaTimer program. Do I need to somehow turn off TeaTimer too?
Even if SpySweeper is the cause of my problems, I find it very disturbing that misbehaving or even deadlocked application programs should be able to prevent the Task Manager from running.

It happens everytime I turn on my computer, two black screen flashes at the login screen and another black flash in the main menu screen right after logging in.

I have an RDP Server on a windows 7 ultimate 32 bit and i would like to be able to use another system login screen to connect to this server. As in when i turn of display last local users, so that if i was to enter XXX into the username and XXX into the password and it will connect Although i wouldnt mind being able to set up roaming profiles between these systems either.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Microsoft Intellipoint 2000 usb mouse that has been working flawlessly for about 8 months, and a windows 7 laptop 64 bit. Recently however, the mouse would work at the login screen, but after I would login, it would stop working. Its drivers are up-to-date. It seems as though something changed recently that disables it after login, and if I reconnect it I sometimes get Error Code 43, and it says it is not recognized, then again, sometimes it will work flawlessly, until i put my computer to sleep.

It logs in fine on my 2 other PCs and my Kindlefire.I have checked for viruses with Avast and A-Malware Bytes in safe mode - nothing. These 2 pick up 98% of stuff. Personally I dont think its a virusn IE9 - Deleted browsing history, cookies, temp internet files, everything under the Geneeral/Browsing History section. After doing so, I cut/pasted my photos folder into my new user directory (or whatever, I'm not very techie..). I have thousands of photos, my BF is a photographer, and I can view most of them. However, in one particular folder 90% of them aren't viewable! Says I don't have permission... When I log back into parents windows, I can see the photos in my directory (as they are no longer located in theirs) but there are little gold padlocks on the ones I cannot see on my log-in. I've tried changing permissions, ownership, you name it.. I've looked for help on line and tried everything. The only thing that seems to work is if I right click on each individual photo and change things that way.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install Windows 7 on my notebook. It currently has Vista and the computer will not boot up at all. It will not let me go into safe mode, or even system recovery. The memory and hard drive are both fine (based on the tests.) Whenever it boots from the Windows 7 disc it goes to "Setup is starting." and just hangs there. I've let it sit for about 40 mins and I really doubt it needs more time. I've searched on this a little but none of the solutions seem to work.
View 4 Replies View RelatedA few months ago my Windows 7 installation seemed to hit a hiccup -- explorer.exe started hanging whenever I attempted to return to the desktop. That's the best way I can describe it. Explorer is just fine and happy if I stay within Windows, but if I either
a) Connect to the machine remotely via RDP (i.e, I am connecting to this machine from an outside computer), when I get to explorer..
b) Run any sort of full screen application, for this example let's say Valve's Half Life engine, although everything else does it too, and then Alt-Tab back to Explorer..
Then when I return to Explorer it is hanging -- the mouse shows the busy wheel on the task bar, and it never returns. I can click, I'll be told I can check for solutions and close the program, and voila -- explorer is killed and restarted, all is well.
I have: Replaced the display drivers, no effect Insured the installation is up to date, no effect Sweared at it, no effect Installed windbg, saved a dump file, realized I'm not a developer, cried into a pillow, no effect

Anyone managed to get this to work? For anyone not familiar its a UMPC, currently running XP Pro. I created a new partition for Win 7 (x86 RC) and installed it there.
It went through the installation and various reboots until it said it was finished but now just hangs during the final reboot. I've tried safe mode - same thing.
Anyone had more success? Is there anything else I can do during booting or install to try and diagnose the issue? I am assuming its a hardware or driver issue.
I've successfully installed on several other desktops and laptops its just this one giving the problem.
Is it worth trying a newer build?
The upgrade has been hanging on the final step "Transferring files, settings, and programs" (58%)...
It has been at that point for approx. 12 hours. The three dots after the percentage continue to appear and disappear which makes it looks like it is processing, but no progress.
How do I get out that this and complete the upgrade?

The problem I have is: Normally ctrl-alt-del brings us to the login screen and we can login by password or swapping the finger. Randomly (not everytime) when my PC is locked or in sleep mode, it does not brings me to the login screen it remains blue (wondows theme) for ages and I have force poweroff my PC and restart it.
I was moving, my PC fell over. Plugged her in, all laggy and HDDs were not happy. Ran chkdsk, everything works now except the Welcome Screen takes forever, Windows 7 is on it's on Vertex 4, prior to me moving the Welcome Screen would be instant. After Windows boots everything is peppy and ready like it was! I don't understand!

HD 150GB (119 Free)Lately when I shut down the laptop it just hangs there (NOT ALL THE TIME) telling me: shutting down but if I don't hit the button it will go on forever. View 1 Replies View RelatedComputer posts, then checks hard disk RAID status (Healthy), then a white blinking cursor appears on upper left corner on black screen, and hangs there forever, UNLESS i put in a Windows bootable CD, then based on my boot priority order (CD ROM, HD) it reads the CD, then it displays "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD...", for which i don't press anything, and the computer proceeds to boot Win 7 OS correctly. So basically it doesn't boot unless i just have a bootable CD in tray.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was shutting down my laptop last night and there was a program (Adobe Reader, I think) that caused it to wait before shutting down. I left it assuming it would eventually shut down. I pushed the power button this morning to turn the computer on, and it says "resuming Windows" and then goes to the screen that says "Logging off". It has been hung up on that screen for over 30 minutes now, so who knows how long it did that last night when it was supposed to shut down. I can press and hold the power button to get it to power down, but when I press the power button again, it starts the same "resuming Windows" stuff all over again. I tried tapping the F8 button when it was restarting, but no luck. I can't use my computer at all, This is a pretty new laptop (Dell), so this is especially frustrating. Not to mention I have LOTS of work to do and I everything is on that laptop.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed a new ssd (X-25m) on a clients computer along with Windows 7 64bit and 8GB of RAM. The computer hangs for anywhere from 10 seconds to 30 seconds+ and sometimes just freezes up all together until I restart. Sometimes, it freezes icons and I can still use the mouse, and can double click to start a program, but it won't start up until it unfreezes, then everything I've opened suddenly opens all at once. Other times, even the mouse is frozen, and I have to wait 30s to a minute before I get it back.
Things I've tried- all Windows Updates, and updated all chipset drivers for the mobo (MSI P6N SLI Platinum)
New hard drive, new install of windows 7. Machine freezes without warning, Sometimes after 2 hours, sometimes after 2 days. When frozen, unable to CTRL ALT DLT or Start / shut down.How to diagnose root cause and solution?

The upgrade process hangs while Gathering programs and settings, always at the 86% mark. Yesterday it hung at 6:00 PM and I let it run overnight -- at 9:00 AM next day it was still hung. No error message, no shutdown, just sitting there waiting.Following suggestions from various sources I have tried working from an empty start folder in Vista, and from a clean boot in Vista. Neither made any difference. I have turned off antivirus and taken down the firewall. My system is approved for upgrade by MS. I have tried starting the upgrade program from Vista safe mode and by booting from the DVD, but was not allowed to continue. I have done everything suggested by MS as a prelude to upgrading.My computer is a Dell Inspiron 530.
