View 1 Repliesi have a Dell Vostro 1520 and im running Windows 7 with a 32bit. It is only 2 years only. It started about a month ago. I was on my laptop viewing and deleting some unwanted photos i had. A few minutes later i realized that i deleted a photo that i wanted. So i went to the recycling bin and restored that photo. When i went back to my photos and went into the album, it said something like i do no have permission to access this folder. Please press continue to get full permission. I clicked continue and i got the access i should have. Now i tried many more random folders and the same thing happened. Also when i came out of the folders, the folders had a big pad lock sign on the front of it. After that i shut down the laptop and went to turn it back on. The laptop will power on like normal. I can press f12 for the boot options. which i have already tried many times. I also tried it in safe mode and what-not, but still nothing. I can hear the fan and stuff spinning up like normal. I have also put and CD into the CD ROM and that spins up fine. So after the Dell logo on the screen, it goes black and stays that way with the cursor. You can move the cursor around no problem. I should also add that the battery light is and has been flashing for a good wile. Its flashing orange and blue. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the battery. Because my laptop will not charge with the AC adapter in it for many months now. It will only stay powered on with the AC adapter plugged in. One more thing. The LED lights over the buttons. None of the are flashing, besides one, on the far left. And i cant find out anywhere what this LED light stands for.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have Dell studio series 1558,I have two issues: After Powering on the laptop and inputting the password for login to Windows 7, I get a black screen with the Mouse cursor active. In the background the login seems to have happened but I don't get to see the Desktop. When i open any program or web page, e.g. yahoo messenger, the messenger/webpage display is very small, i had to manually enlarge it to view properly, i tried changing my screen resolution, but didnt work.

My laptop hands at the Welcome screen...has done this before once or twice, but today it does not straighten out after restarting. I am not tech savvy...plus I am 70 years old and skittish about trying some of the suggestions I read on here
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having a reoccurring issue with Windows 7 that always presents itself some weeks after I install it. I've run into this issue of installing windows updates only to have a blank screen with only the cursor present after I login from boot many times and have always had to reinstall. I'm wondering why this issue keeps happening, and what I can do to fix it.Ive tried sfc /scannow /offbootdir ..... several times but it either says it will do it on the next restart (which it doesnt) or it just says it can't run it.
View 6 Replies View RelatedEverything shows up fine until the welcome screen after that it normally used to fade to the desktop but now it goes blank. The screen in Black with only the mouse pointer. Its not hung, i can move the mouse pointer. Then after a minute or so it advances to the desktop. Everything on the desktop loads up in less than 5s. The PC runs fine, it is really fast as there are only a few programs, but only boots slow. My total boot time is about 3-5 min. I think it should be like in a minute or so.I have not tweaked much with the system but have installed a few programs like MS office, Nero, Acrobat and Photoshop. These are the only heavy programs in the PC right now. The only games on the PC are AC1 and AC2. I have uninstalled my graphic driver and reinstalled. I already minimized the programs in the msconfig>startup to the minimum. I have run ccleaner, spybot s&d, Antimalware and i also have a trial copy of Kaspersky AV (upgrading later to 1-year license). there are no peripherals attached during boot except the USB keyboard and mouse. A printer is attached too but is most of the time turned off.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI originally had XP and 1 drive and I was chosen to be the guinea pig for upgrading to 7 (RTM). 7 would not install on the same partition as XP, so I partitioned my drive with Part A with xp on it and part B with 7. Over the next several weeks, I continued to move things from XP to 7 and eventually never went back to XP so it was time to get rid of that partition for good.
I deleted the Part A, expanded part B to take up the whole drive, marked it as the boot partition. Rebooting told me there was no BOOTMGR so I used the repair DVD 3 times to fix the various issues it found.
Now when I boot, I get to the login screen. I login, it takes a long time "preparing desktop", then gives me a blue colored screen with a message in the lower right corner that says "This copy of Windows is not genuine" even though it is.
I cannot use ctrl+alt+del nor ctrl+shift+esc to bring up task manager, it simply doesn't work. Booting into safe mode AND safe mode with command prompt yields the same results.
I booted to a linux distro from USB and copied the registry to look at the Shell and UserInit settings as suggested in other posts, but they are correct.
Any ideas? I really do not want to reinstall everything that I've spent the last 1.5 months installing. Update: I forgot to mention, it is not just 1 user account this happens on. It does it regardless of which account I log in with.
After upgrading my existing installation to Windows 8, I realized I hated it and reinstalled Windows 7 Ultimate (deleting the old installation). Once everything was up and running, I tried installing the latest AMD drivers for it (I'm using a Radeon HD 6700). However, after I reboot and the Windows splash screen disappears (but before the Windows Login), I get a blank screen. There's not any "No Signal" that pops up on my monitor, but my mouse does show.. I can boot just fine into safe mode, then disable the drivers to boot normally. However, I can't boot normally with the drivers enabled.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter login, the screen said 'preparing desktop', then an ALL NEW desktop appeared with most program icons gone.black background that it would not let me change.everything was different.programs froze (malwarebytes).libraries reset. my internet program folder missing...programs loading as new installs. It was like a brand new user was on the machine. Explorer kept crashing and restarting... when it stabilized, I could see my docs folder with a padlock on it, but I could access the files. After freaking out, I did a system restore, and it seemed OK, except Symmantec was damaged and needed repaired. Nothing was found with Symmantec, Microsoft security, or Malwarebytes.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI did an upgrade from Vista Buisness 64, to Windows 7 Ultimate 64. Dell Latitude e6400, with Nvidia Quadro NVS 160M. In general, everything went quite well. Except - when I boot up, I get to the logon screen, I hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete, and I log in, then the screen goes blank. If I hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete again, I get the screen where I can switch user, change passwords, log off, etc. If I cancel this, I get blank screen again.
If I reboot in Safe Mode, all is fine. If I uninstall the NVidia driver, then reboot normal, I can log in, but the system is using Standard VGA driver. I have tried various drivers from NVidia, LaptopVideo2Go, Dell (Windows 7 - 181.71, 181.72, 185.81, 185.85, and Latest Vista driver from Dell site). I've tried installing from normal mode, safe mode, I've tried DriverSweeper, I searched the registry deleting all references to the drivers I can find...). One time I did somehow get 185.81 working - I don't know how.
It was running fine 5 five days (I did not reboot during that time, just sleep mode), then I got a blue screen, and back to the blank screen after logon on the 1st boot. I screwed with the system for another day, and finally got the Dell Vista driver to run once. Once again all was well, until I put the laptop to sleep in the docking stn, then woke it up - blank screen again.
I'm typing this msg now with the standard VGA driver. The 2 things that bother me about this driver, are only single monitor support, and the machine will not go into Hibernate or Sleep mode with this driver (not to mention the speed of the driver).

View 2 Replies View Relatedmy windows7 x64 will not boot completely. I get the welcome screen, with a continuous whirling circle or, sometimes, i get to the desktop, but no icons or task bar. I can't get any response from control/alt/delete to get to task manager. I have easy access to safe mode, and everything there seems normal. I have run AVAST, Malwarebytes, and a couple of other antivirus programs from safe mode, with no virus or malware identified. I have read every post in as many tech sites as I can find, and nothing seems to work. I have already tried going back to earlier restores, and am out of them.
I need to backup all my work files and reinstall Windows 7, I guess. I'm concerned that I will not have the drivers I need when I do that. I have a backup Macrium system image, but it's a year old, the external drive it's on clicks like crazy, indicating it's going bad, and I've got a LOT of work on my machine I don't want to lose. I've already beaten myself severly with a rubber hose for putting off backups and restore disks, so save that...
