My laptop hands at the Welcome screen...has done this before once or twice, but today it does not straighten out after restarting. I am not tech savvy...plus I am 70 years old and skittish about trying some of the suggestions I read on here
View 2 RepliesW7 will start up, load files, and then stay at a black screen with a mouse. I think that the hard drive may have gone bad, and when I did a memory diagnosis, I have found that there is bad memory with my main hard drive. I do not have the original disk, nor can I access any of the files. I tried system Recovery, but it would not list W7 as an option. If someone knows where I could find those drivers to load onto a disk, that would be great. My computer is a Dell Studio 1535.

View 1 Replies View Relatedstarted recently, when I boot my PC, the screen shows message: no signal and screen stays dark.However, in the background W-7 is loading, but in order to get the video functioning, I must restart the PC, turn off the screen, wait till W-7 loads somewhat and (like after 10 sec.) turn the screen on and everything is OK.Monitor is NEW Video card too, I tried with a second one, same problem...My question is, is this W-7, main board, or something else related?

I have to re-log in twice to get it straight(using ctrl+alt+del). This happened for 3 days and now it started going insanely slow while i'm working and it recovers only if I log out and come back.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have had multiple instances now where Windows 7 hung after I started up and logged into an account. It seems to happen when I try to start a program by double-clicking on it. For example, it has hung when I tried to start CCleaner or Firefox. When I get into this state, Ctrl-Alt-Del does nothing. In some cases, I can right-click on the Taskbar and choose "Task Manager," but it won't run (I just get the hourglass cursor). Today I tried to start Firefox and nothing happened, and the hourglass cursor shows in the Taskbar, so I can't even see the menu for the Task Manager.
This is happening on a Toshiba laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. It seems to occur when I don't wait long enough for the login to finish. When it happens, the only way out is to hold down the power key until it shuts off the system. Of course Windows is too stupid to tell me when it is done loading stuff into memory and starting its services; why can't they simply tell me when the login process is done and the system is ready to use? I find it infuriating that a supposedly multi-threaded, multi-tasking operating system can be so flaky. But enough of my rant; on to the possible cause:
I strongly suspect that my problems may be caused by SpySweeper, since it seems to be the last program that loads at login. (Or at least it's the last one to put up an annoying splash screen.) I use the following programs on my machine:
Windows Defender
Avast! Antivirus
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
SuperAntiSpyware
Spybot Search & Destroy
SpySweeper
I have read that SpySweeper sometimes conflicts with other programs, so I turned off real-time protection for Windows Defender. I have read conflicting opinions on whether SpySweeper conflicts with Spybot's TeaTimer program. Do I need to somehow turn off TeaTimer too?
Even if SpySweeper is the cause of my problems, I find it very disturbing that misbehaving or even deadlocked application programs should be able to prevent the Task Manager from running.
My laptop screen stays off when I close the lid. I set the laptop to 'do nothing'(turn off the screen), when I close the lid. When I open it, the screen stays off.The only way to fix it from here is to either turn it off or to put it in sleep mode (with my designated button). Everything still works, its just that the screen doesn't turn on.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThis morning, Windows installed 5 updates, which I had postponed from yesterday. It told me to reboot but when it did, it got stuck at the Press ESC point. There was no disk activity. I turned off and rebooted again several times with the Windows Repair disk in the DVD drive. I was able to run the startup test but it said it couldn't repair it. The log said the the fault was caused by a critical update. I went into System Restore, but I am unsure of the options. It showed a screen with all my partitions already ticked, including the Windows boot partition which was greyed out. Am I supposed to leave all the partitions ticked, or if I don't, will I then lose those partitions?
I currently have the Wondershare LiveBoot 2012 DVD running but I'm not sure what option I need to use. Recover MBR, Recover Boot Sector, or Recover Boot files, or all of them?
I just bought a new hard drive and windows 7. I installed the new hard drive and tried installing windows 7, but I dont get any ''pictures''. It goes up to picture 2 where I got to put in my language, but I do not actually get this screen. The screen stays empty and only my mouse comes up so I cant actually do anything

Changed Boot drive to optical and inserted Windows 7 installation disc...Saved changes and reset the computer...Now the screen just stays in standby! View 6 Replies View RelatedI have installed the latest drivers, reinstalled the program, and all that jazz and the problem still persists. Pretty much when I minimize or exit from a game I play called EVE Online, my LCD remains really dark. Kind of as if someone turned down the brightness really low on the LCD. I've figured out 2 workarounds but they aren't fixes.
I simply log out and log back in and the display brightens to its usual brilliance or I hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and it has the same effect. But once I maximize the game and minimize again the screen darkens once more. Oh and in-game everything is perfect, it's only once I go to the desktop. Any ideas? I personally think its a something wrong with the refresh rate but I ahve no clue as to how to fix that.

I'm using Windows 7 Pro. I have remove the login pw in my user account now I do not need to do the login and able to use the computer right away. But I found I am using the computer as a user not administrator. How can I skip the login screen and go straight into desktop as administrator.

Similarly, if I close the lid of my laptop when its turned on, and then open the lid, the screen stays black. Not only that, but when I closed the lid of the laptop, the computer never turned off. It was still running.I reset the power options to default as well, so there is nothing wrong there. Perhaps I should also mention that the screen successfully turns off and on in safe mode?
edit: Just tried a system restore to two weeks ago and the system crashed. Both times.
I have Windows 7 on my laptop and after I start it up and enter my password to login to windows I have to wait another 10-15 minutes for my desktop to appear. It's just a black screen, but the kicker is that I can move my mouse and see it on screen.

Recently when I have powered up my laptop it occasionally doesn't load properly, the screen stays black. You can hear the laptop working fine but you cannot see anything. This happens once or twice a week, I usually hold on the power button for 5 seconds, then reboot and it resumes my hibernate settings as usual. Could this be because I always hibernate my laptop?
There is a moving cursor but nothing else happens. the login page does not appear. The screen background just stays blue with white rays. I do not want to lose any files.

I've seen it say that before, but only when you'd type your password incorrectly and it hangs for a second before it goes back to the login screen. Anyway, when I type my password in and click login the system just hangs at the "Welcome" screen. I left it for over and hour and came back, still hanging. I've seen older threads on here suggesting to enable "boot log" after pressing f8, that did nothing.
I am able to log into the computer on an old admin account that I created over a year ago, it's never been used, it works fine. Acts like a fresh install and only half my programs are there unfortunately. However, programs can be reinstalled. My biggest problem is that when I go into my files on the old account while logged into my fresh account I can access everything after gaining access, but when I try to open "Desktop" from the old account the system just Hangs, just like it does while trying to log into my normal account.
When I right click to examine the properties of "desktop" on the normal account, it says 0 bytes, in fact 0 everything, like it doesn't exist. This is really bad because a lot of my work is saved in folders on my desktop and I need the data from there. When I logged into the new account and gained access to my files and saw that I could read everything fine in my documents I had a sigh of relief figuring that all I would have to do would be a re-install or continue on a new account. Doesn't it just figure that the desktop folder isn't working?

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy son has a Toshiba Satelite P205 that he just upgraded from Windows XP Home Premium to Windows 7 32-bit. After the upgrade completed the computer booted fine. The within 20 minutes he got the BSOD and the system rebooted. Now he can't get Windows to fully start. We've tried all of the options from F8 with no success. We have the Toshiba System Recovery Disk but it won't launch. (The Boot sequence has been changed to boot from CD/DVD and then the Hard Drive.)The Memory Diagnostic from the Windows 7 disk ran fine with no errors. I'm thinking I might need to re-format/wipe the drive to start fresh but don't know where to obtain a boot CD(no floppy drive on this laptop). Does anyone recommend a software that I can purchase to clear everything without destroying the CD/DVD accessibility so I can then use the System Recovery Disk to put it back to the original factory Settings?

My HP Pavilion is running 64-bit and my Dell Latiude E6400 is running 32-bit. I can successfully RDP from my Dell and even my Apple iPad (via an RDP client) into my HP Pavilion. However, the problem is that when I try to RDP from my Pavilion into my Dell I get connected but all I see is a BLACK from the Dell machine. The only thing i can see is the Status bar at teh top telling me that i am connected. A few moments later I get a popup message telling me that the machines have failed to communicate.
I have confirmed that RDP settings are identical on the Pavilion and Dell. I have even downgraded the Dell NVIDIA graphics driver to an older version based on the recommended version on the Dell support web site.
I've had windows 7 ultimate 64bits for a year now on my brand new pc, and today he starts and slowly ... around 35 mins to show desktop and will take forever if i click anything. I restarted in safe mode and it works perfectly, there are no exclamation points on the device manager. The only major change i have done but not recently was my video card from Nvidia to raddeon saphire.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was handed a computer to try and clean up yesterday. It is an 2 GHZ AMD 64 bit CPU running windows 7 64-bit with a whole 1 GB of ram. Yes I said 1 GB of ram, I cringed too. I've got the owner convinced to upgrade that to 4GB and he's gonna go with a dual core processor while he's at it which should make a ton of difference.In any case, on to the problem. The windows install was pretty bogged down, somewhere around 80 running processes and no free physical memory. The machine actually booted to the desktop fairly quickly but wouldn't respond to anything due to all the running processes. I went through the task manager and killed enough tasks that I could navigate. I ran ccleaner on it to clear some junk. I went through the startup processes and cleared all the non-essentials. I went into the add-remove programs and removed the junk. I ran ccleaner again and cleared up the remnants and even ran the registry cleaner. I ran malwarebytes and an AVG virus scan and was actually surprised to find the system very clean. It's whole problem seemed to be an absurd amount of "legit" startup items. After I got it all cleaned up to around 40 running processes I defragmented the drive using defraggler and manually bumped the size of the swap file up to 1.5x ram.
The system is now running great, well as great as it can with only 1 GB of ram. All except for one problem.... when the machine boots up it comes to the screen where you can select a user, I select the user and then it hangs on the welcome screen for as much as 20 minutes before it goes on. It didn't take more than 20 minutes to boot before I started!How can it possibly be booting slower now with an optimized drive, larger swap file, and 0 extra components running at startup?
yesterday I was using my computer and it was working fine. I turned it off (like I do every night before bed). And when I turned it on again today it got stuck at the Welcome screen. I thought that maybe it was just a one time problem (most of my computer problems are) so I shut if off manually using the power button and the booted it back up again but it got stuck at the welcome screen again. So it is off now. This computer is homebuilt and it is almost 1 year old.
