I'm using Windows7 Ultimate 64bit system. My windows explorer goes completely unresponsive after starting up my computer. Even the task manager doesn't open. I have to re-log in twice to get it straight(using ctrl+alt+del). This happened for 3 days and now it started going insanely slow while i'm working and it recovers only if I log out and come back.

Removed all recently installed programs but no use. Boot option Debug hangs right at the start. All device drivers seem to be having no problem going by info with Device Manager.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have had multiple instances now where Windows 7 hung after I started up and logged into an account. It seems to happen when I try to start a program by double-clicking on it. For example, it has hung when I tried to start CCleaner or Firefox. When I get into this state, Ctrl-Alt-Del does nothing. In some cases, I can right-click on the Taskbar and choose "Task Manager," but it won't run (I just get the hourglass cursor). Today I tried to start Firefox and nothing happened, and the hourglass cursor shows in the Taskbar, so I can't even see the menu for the Task Manager.
This is happening on a Toshiba laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. It seems to occur when I don't wait long enough for the login to finish. When it happens, the only way out is to hold down the power key until it shuts off the system. Of course Windows is too stupid to tell me when it is done loading stuff into memory and starting its services; why can't they simply tell me when the login process is done and the system is ready to use? I find it infuriating that a supposedly multi-threaded, multi-tasking operating system can be so flaky. But enough of my rant; on to the possible cause:
I strongly suspect that my problems may be caused by SpySweeper, since it seems to be the last program that loads at login. (Or at least it's the last one to put up an annoying splash screen.) I use the following programs on my machine:
Windows Defender
Avast! Antivirus
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
SuperAntiSpyware
Spybot Search & Destroy
SpySweeper
I have read that SpySweeper sometimes conflicts with other programs, so I turned off real-time protection for Windows Defender. I have read conflicting opinions on whether SpySweeper conflicts with Spybot's TeaTimer program. Do I need to somehow turn off TeaTimer too?
Even if SpySweeper is the cause of my problems, I find it very disturbing that misbehaving or even deadlocked application programs should be able to prevent the Task Manager from running.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to Windows 7 build 6801 from Vista Ultimate and pleased to says it works fine except for this nagging issue. Whenever i right click anything on my desktop, explorer.exe hangs ("stopped working") and it restarts explorer.exe again.Apparently, it is a common issue and I also had it when I upgraded from XP to VistaI didnt manage to fix it that time but it went away by itself after awhile. Is there any solution for this? Tried a bunch of registry cleaners. Also used a program called ShellExView and disabled all non-M$ context menu items but it still happens.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWoke up today to find my computer (which I never turn off) sitting at the login screen saying "Please Wait..." I've seen it say that before, but only when you'd type your password incorrectly and it hangs for a second before it goes back to the login screen. Anyway, when I type my password in and click login the system just hangs at the "Welcome" screen. I left it for over and hour and came back, still hanging. I've seen older threads on here suggesting to enable "boot log" after pressing f8, that did nothing.
I am able to log into the computer on an old admin account that I created over a year ago, it's never been used, it works fine. Acts like a fresh install and only half my programs are there unfortunately. However, programs can be reinstalled. My biggest problem is that when I go into my files on the old account while logged into my fresh account I can access everything after gaining access, but when I try to open "Desktop" from the old account the system just Hangs, just like it does while trying to log into my normal account.
When I right click to examine the properties of "desktop" on the normal account, it says 0 bytes, in fact 0 everything, like it doesn't exist. This is really bad because a lot of my work is saved in folders on my desktop and I need the data from there. When I logged into the new account and gained access to my files and saw that I could read everything fine in my documents I had a sigh of relief figuring that all I would have to do would be a re-install or continue on a new account. Doesn't it just figure that the desktop folder isn't working?
Basically what happens: Explorer has stopped working: restart the program.Afterwards, either I can't move my cursor, or the moves very slowly or in different directions but still slowly.The only way I've been able to get out of is by Ctrl Shift Esc Task Manager and then Alt Tabbing my way to process list to kill WerFault.I dug around through event viewer, but this the most recent relevant crash I found.

I have tried formatting, system restore, virus scan with Microsoft Security essentials..
In recent days, my computer extremely slowed down. A few months back, it started booting up really slow but I didn't mind it. It was working well, although if you opened a program too quickly before the system started, it would freeze. The fan is running full speed 100% when the computer is on. I ran Malware in safe mode, found one threat but didn't work. I tried services, turned them all off, didn't work.
One important thing to mention is that I can't type anything in explorer. If I open Menu Start and try to search for something, it will freeze. Same in explorer window. I can't delete a file with the DELETE key, I can't use CTRL+C, CTRL+V because explorer freezes. Right click works, though. I'm working on MSI FX603 laptop with i5 Intel Core, GeForce 425M and 4GB Ram. I just updated Graphics, Network drivers. No luck.
I have three computers all running Windows 7 Ultimate x64, one of which functions partly as a media center (hosting music etc), the second and third being my office workstation and laptop respectively. The media center has a hard line to my cable modem (via Trendnet wireless-N router) while the latter two connect via wireless; the workstation via a wireless ethernet hub and the laptop via it's integrated wireless.I currently have all of my media folders shared via homegroup on the media center.
My laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad W500) can access all of the shared folders.My office workstation, while I can "see" the shared libraries/folders on my media center, hangs (the explorer window appears to be perpetually loading) whenever I attempt to open any of the folders. Sometimes when this happens I can kill/restart explorer but ever so often explorer itself will be unable to restart and I will have to reboot the entire machine.I have Windows Security Essentials running on both machines - all three are almost identical with respects to the installed software.I have tried reconfiguring the homegroup multiple times, flushing the dns cache, resetting and cycling the router, and have even swapped out wireless adapters (on the problematic workstation) to no avail.
A few months ago my Windows 7 installation seemed to hit a hiccup -- explorer.exe started hanging whenever I attempted to return to the desktop. That's the best way I can describe it. Explorer is just fine and happy if I stay within Windows, but if I either
a) Connect to the machine remotely via RDP (i.e, I am connecting to this machine from an outside computer), when I get to explorer..
b) Run any sort of full screen application, for this example let's say Valve's Half Life engine, although everything else does it too, and then Alt-Tab back to Explorer..
Then when I return to Explorer it is hanging -- the mouse shows the busy wheel on the task bar, and it never returns. I can click, I'll be told I can check for solutions and close the program, and voila -- explorer is killed and restarted, all is well.
I have: Replaced the display drivers, no effect Insured the installation is up to date, no effect Sweared at it, no effect Installed windbg, saved a dump file, realized I'm not a developer, cried into a pillow, no effect

The only thing that remains consistent is that I'm playing a 3D game with audio on. Completely different programs each time. The screen would freeze up and so would the audio, and my keyboard/mouse don't respond at all. I resort to doing a hard reset with the computer power button. Each time, when I log in again, explorer.exe is frozen. the taskbar appears, but nothing on the desktop, and after a couple seconds it all freezes up, with the busy mouse symbol when I highlight taskbar. I can still move mouse around though.
I can do ctrl+alt+delete at this point at least. Restarting explorer.exe doesn't work, so I try logging out in that menu, which does work, although slowly. I've tried scanning for virus and also a system restore to earlier point, no difference.The only solution so far has been to simply log in safe mode - which DOES work by the way - and create a new account from scratch.Last time I cut/paste almost everything between old account and new, this time I will only do basics like save games and documents/music/video.

View 2 Replies View RelatedOne of the computers in the office where I work hangs when the user shuts down in the evening. The error dialog says there are two processes still running, and the title bar of the dialog says "explorer.exe error". The message in the dialog says something like "The instruction at "0xXXXXXXXX" referenced memory at "0xXXXXXXXX", The memory could not be "written. Click OK to close." There is an OK button and when you click it, the computers finishes it's shutdown with no further hang up. Windows explorer is the stuck process shown. I've done a little research on it and some of the suggestions are to clear the temporary internet files, which I did, but that didn't help and I wonder if they were thinking IE and not the Windows explorer which is different.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI tried to copy a file from a failing network drive to another nework drive, and the copy failed midway. Now when I right click on the destination file to attempt to delete it, explorer hangs. If I left click and press the "del" key, explorer hangs as well, and if I go to the command prompt and try to delete the file using the DOS "del" command, the process hangs as well.
I'm using Windows 7 64-bit. The file is obviously corrput, and I would like to get it off my drive.
I experience this issue on one PC with RC installed and on another one with RTM.Whenever I enter a special folder with 5 or 6 wave-files, explorer.exe uses 100% cpu-power and it's memory usage goes up to 2 gigs.It takes a long time to get to the taskmanager and kill the process.I've found some forum-posts of users who experience the same issue on Vista and Win 7 but never an answer.

Presently I am using IE8 and many of the sites (but not all) does not show the popup asking if you want to save the User name and passwordThe ones that do work fine and the login information is retained but most of the guitar and bass forums I have been on for years do not retain the information.Machines with Windows XP are fine. I have tried IE 9, Chrome, Safari. They all reat the same way which lead me to believe it is an OS problem. The Talkbass.com admin tried toith this but ended up stating "it must be a Windows 7 64 bit problemr shed some light on this problem. I have an RDP Server on a windows 7 ultimate 32 bit and i would like to be able to use another system login screen to connect to this server. As in when i turn of display last local users, so that if i was to enter XXX into the username and XXX into the password and it will connect Although i wouldnt mind being able to set up roaming profiles between these systems either.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Microsoft Intellipoint 2000 usb mouse that has been working flawlessly for about 8 months, and a windows 7 laptop 64 bit. Recently however, the mouse would work at the login screen, but after I would login, it would stop working. Its drivers are up-to-date. It seems as though something changed recently that disables it after login, and if I reconnect it I sometimes get Error Code 43, and it says it is not recognized, then again, sometimes it will work flawlessly, until i put my computer to sleep.

I load firefox, same issue. I load Crome, it worked for 1 day then same issue. It used to login in fine last week. It logs in fine on my 2 other PCs and my Kindlefire.I have checked for viruses with Avast and A-Malware Bytes in safe mode - nothing. These 2 pick up 98% of stuff. Personally I dont think its a virusn IE9 - Deleted browsing history, cookies, temp internet files, everything under the Geneeral/Browsing History section. Did a disk cleanup, put the site inthe trusted zone, turned off popup blocker just in case, Cleared SSL state, Reset IE9. Zippo
View 1 Replies View Relatedhow to make W7 explorer display the file tree the same way that XP did? The W7 way is a total mishmash, IMHO. I can't understand the directory structure. The indentation on the display is very slight and hard to see so that it is very hard to tell where a subdirectory starts and ends. It takes a long time to fill in the file structure so that after several seconds, even minutes, the display is still jumping around. There are a lot of things that I like about W7 but this is NOT one of them. I use windows explorer a lot.

After doing so, I cut/pasted my photos folder into my new user directory (or whatever, I'm not very techie..). I have thousands of photos, my BF is a photographer, and I can view most of them. However, in one particular folder 90% of them aren't viewable! Says I don't have permission... When I log back into parents windows, I can see the photos in my directory (as they are no longer located in theirs) but there are little gold padlocks on the ones I cannot see on my log-in. I've tried changing permissions, ownership, you name it.. I've looked for help on line and tried everything. The only thing that seems to work is if I right click on each individual photo and change things that way.
