Account Hangs On Login - Cannot Access Desktop

Feb 1, 2012

Woke up today to find my computer (which I never turn off) sitting at the login screen saying "Please Wait..." I've seen it say that before, but only when you'd type your password incorrectly and it hangs for a second before it goes back to the login screen. Anyway, when I type my password in and click login the system just hangs at the "Welcome" screen. I left it for over and hour and came back, still hanging. I've seen older threads on here suggesting to enable "boot log" after pressing f8, that did nothing.

I am able to log into the computer on an old admin account that I created over a year ago, it's never been used, it works fine. Acts like a fresh install and only half my programs are there unfortunately. However, programs can be reinstalled. My biggest problem is that when I go into my files on the old account while logged into my fresh account I can access everything after gaining access, but when I try to open "Desktop" from the old account the system just Hangs, just like it does while trying to log into my normal account.

When I right click to examine the properties of "desktop" on the normal account, it says 0 bytes, in fact 0 everything, like it doesn't exist. This is really bad because a lot of my work is saved in folders on my desktop and I need the data from there. When I logged into the new account and gained access to my files and saw that I could read everything fine in my documents I had a sigh of relief figuring that all I would have to do would be a re-install or continue on a new account. Doesn't it just figure that the desktop folder isn't working?

Can't Access Work Webmail Login With Desktop, But Can With Laptop

Sep 5, 2011

I'm having an annoying problem. With my desktop computer I'm unable to access the webmail login for my work website. I'm not positive, but I thought it might be due to the full version trial of Malwarebytes that I installed. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Malwarebytes using Revo Uninstaller, and now have just the standard version, and I still have the problem.

I can access my work website (except for the webmail login), but when I try to ping my work website I get "general failure" results. I also get "general failure" results when pinging the webmail login.I can access the webmail login through my laptop. The reason I think it might be Malwarebytes is because from what I remember random websites stopped loading after I opted for the full version trial.I tried disabling Windows Firewall and Security Essentials real time scanning I've tried to access the webmail login using Firefox, Chrome and IE and none worked. I've tried using my cell phone as a modem to bypass the router and that didn't work.

Windows 7 Hangs After Login/bootup; Task Manager Not Available

Apr 27, 2011

I have had multiple instances now where Windows 7 hung after I started up and logged into an account. It seems to happen when I try to start a program by double-clicking on it. For example, it has hung when I tried to start CCleaner or Firefox. When I get into this state, Ctrl-Alt-Del does nothing. In some cases, I can right-click on the Taskbar and choose "Task Manager," but it won't run (I just get the hourglass cursor). Today I tried to start Firefox and nothing happened, and the hourglass cursor shows in the Taskbar, so I can't even see the menu for the Task Manager.

This is happening on a Toshiba laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. It seems to occur when I don't wait long enough for the login to finish. When it happens, the only way out is to hold down the power key until it shuts off the system. Of course Windows is too stupid to tell me when it is done loading stuff into memory and starting its services; why can't they simply tell me when the login process is done and the system is ready to use? I find it infuriating that a supposedly multi-threaded, multi-tasking operating system can be so flaky. But enough of my rant; on to the possible cause:

I strongly suspect that my problems may be caused by SpySweeper, since it seems to be the last program that loads at login. (Or at least it's the last one to put up an annoying splash screen.) I use the following programs on my machine:

Windows Defender
Avast! Antivirus
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
SuperAntiSpyware
Spybot Search & Destroy
SpySweeper

I have read that SpySweeper sometimes conflicts with other programs, so I turned off real-time protection for Windows Defender. I have read conflicting opinions on whether SpySweeper conflicts with Spybot's TeaTimer program. Do I need to somehow turn off TeaTimer too?

Even if SpySweeper is the cause of my problems, I find it very disturbing that misbehaving or even deadlocked application programs should be able to prevent the Task Manager from running.

Login To The Hidden Admin Account?

Jan 16, 2012

I recently was given a laptop to fix up by my brother in law that seems to be infected with a nasty troublesome Trojan.Anyways I cannot login to his username with the password he has provided me with and he has some documents that he would like me to backup if possible.o, I was wondering if their is a way to get into the hidden admin account within the login screen, I hate how Microsoft disabled the feature of hitting Ctrl+Alt+Del to get into the admin account. So I was just wondering if their was another way to get in, I've already tried Safe Mode and the hidden Admin account doesn't pop up.

Windows 7, Explorer.exe Freezing When Login Account After?

Apr 13, 2011

The only thing that remains consistent is that I'm playing a 3D game with audio on. Completely different programs each time. The screen would freeze up and so would the audio, and my keyboard/mouse don't respond at all. I resort to doing a hard reset with the computer power button. Each time, when I log in again, explorer.exe is frozen. the taskbar appears, but nothing on the desktop, and after a couple seconds it all freezes up, with the busy mouse symbol when I highlight taskbar. I can still move mouse around though.

I can do ctrl+alt+delete at this point at least. Restarting explorer.exe doesn't work, so I try logging out in that menu, which does work, although slowly. I've tried scanning for virus and also a system restore to earlier point, no difference. The only solution so far has been to simply log in safe mode - which DOES work by the way - and create a new account from scratch.Last time I cut/paste almost everything between old account and new, this time I will only do basics like save games and documents/music/video.

Here's my system info:

**Athlon II x2 2.7 GHz processor (65w)
**M2N68-LA Narra5-GL6 motherboard
**3GB DDR2 SDRAM memory

Windows 7 Not Loading After Typing User Account Password On Login Page

Jun 25, 2011

When I try to start up Windows normally, I type in my password for the user account and then it just freezes, it doesn't load. So I think, okay, I'll just try to start up it in Safe Mode, no problem. But when I try to start it in Safe Mode the computer freezes at classpnp.sys and doesn't continue. I'm at a loss about what to do.

My computer is a Gateway Desktop, running Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit), intel premium processor, 1 TB hard drive, 6 GB DDR3 memory. I tried using the "Last Known Good Config" option, to no avail. I got the "Replacing invalid security ID" message. I let that go for about an hour when I stopped it, as it was going nowhere. If it makes any difference, I have also installed another operating system (Ubuntu).

Long 'Waiting For' Hangs When Access Web

Oct 5, 2011

When attempting to access the web with latestet Firefox, Chrome or IE9, extremly long hangs are encountered with status message "Waiting for google.com..." (or whatever site is entered).Sometimes the hang will resolve in 2 or 3 minutes, sometimes never. When the page is finally loaded if another link on the page is clicked, the same delay occurs: "Waiting for..." and it mosly likely will not resolve/load.On an another PC on the same home network, the same search can be entered (Firefox 7.01) and the page returns nearly instantly. I see "Waiting for..." for a brief instant followd by "Transferring data..." and the page appears. Network/Internet Access Hangs After Few Hours?

Mar 11, 2012

I typically use Google Chrome for browsing, but I also have Firefox installed. I rarely use IE but that seems to be affected as well. Basically, after I've been using the computer for a few hours, all network access seems to die until I restart my computer. Furthermore, I sometimes cannot terminate all of the chrome.exe processes (an access denied error pops up from the task manager), and once the network has died, Firefox will not run (the process does appear on task manager but no window opens). Other network-dependent services also fail. The router I am connected to is working throughout this as tested by another computer and WiFi devices. This problem goes away with a restart 100% of the time. So far I have run scans with Security Essentials, Malwarebytes, and AVG. I was concerned there may have been a conflict between these so I have uninstalled AVG but the problem persists. I have uninstalled Chrome and Firefox completely (using Revo) and reinstalled but the problem persists. Unfortunately my oldest System Restore point is only about a week old and the problem has been happening for longer than that. I have disabled all extensions in Chrome but the problem does not seem to be isolated to one browser.

Here is my system info:
