Windows 7 Not Loading After Typing User Account Password On Login Page

Jun 25, 2011

When I try to start up Windows normally, I type in my password for the user account and then it just freezes, it doesn't load. So I think, okay, I'll just try to start up it in Safe Mode, no problem. But when I try to start it in Safe Mode the computer freezes at classpnp.sys and doesn't continue. I'm at a loss about what to do.

My computer is a Gateway Desktop, running Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit), intel premium processor, 1 TB hard drive, 6 GB DDR3 memory. I tried using the "Last Known Good Config" option, to no avail. I got the "Replacing invalid security ID" message. I let that go for about an hour when I stopped it, as it was going nowhere. If it makes any difference, I have also installed another operating system (Ubuntu).

Created User Account, Unable To Login?

Oct 15, 2011

I created a secondary user account on my PC. When I try to login, it will look like it's logging in, but it just logs back out, returning to the main screen to choose an account to login to.If I'm logged into my main account, and I switch users and try to login to the newly created secondary account, it logs me out of my main account, and doesn't login to the secondary account, and once again, returns to the main screen to choose an account to login to.This also happens with the guest account. In addition, it does not give me the generic error: "The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded"How can I fix this?

I assumed the repair guys set it up to test something but I've tried deleting it and it just shows back up at the next login. As far as I can see there's nothing on it so I don't know why it won't delete, does someone know how I can get rid of it?

Default User Account (Administrator) Acts Like Standard Account

Oct 31, 2011

I am using Windows 7 Pro 64x and apparently the default user account (Owner) that I use is not working correctly. Unless I have UAC set to Never Notify, I cannot open Control Panel or UAC again. I have created a second user account as Administrator and it works correctly.

I would like to know if there is any way to fix this problem short of a clean install of Windows. If not, is it possible to move all of my settings to the user account that works correctly and delete the one that does not.

Slow Log On For Single User Account On Multi Account System

Sep 29, 2011

I would appreciate any help identifying the cause of extremely slow log on times for a user account on our family laptop. The machine is running Windows 7 - 64-bit version, and currently has 3 users accounts 2 admin and 1 regular. The regular account has begun to experience log on times that last for minutes (The Welcome splash screen prior to log on screen), while the admin accounts have no problems. I have seen other posts regarding slow log on times, but I haven't seen those which address the issue for a specific user account.

OS No Longer Loads After Windows Update?

Jan 15, 2013

I am running: Windows 7 64bit
On: Acer Aspire 5750 laptop

For a couple months my computer has been locking up at random intervals for several seconds each time. I got no error messages and each time it came back acting fine, so I just assumed I had too much running. Now, I'm not so sure it wasn't the HD failing, because...

Last week, I noticed the shield on the shutdown button indicating windows needed to run an update. I closed out of everything and pushed the button to shutdown/install updates. The computer immediately crashed almost as if I had held down the power button. When I attempted to restart it, my only 2 options were to start normally or launch repair mode. Normal didn't work, so I launched repair. Repair ran for close to 4 days. In the first 36 hours it asked to be restarted twice, after that it just kept running until finally I gave up and shut it down with the power button.

Like a moron, I do not have a recent backup of my files and really wish they could still be saved.

Since then:Tried to rescue files with Umbutu boot stick- error said it could not mount to drive. Tried to launch safe mode with command prompt via F8- system went back into repair mode instead. Tried to launch to last known good configuration via F8- system went back to repair mode, again. Tried to launch via Windows Boot Disk- the screen it gave me was not the same screen as the screenshots on the forums suggested I should get. My screen was an Acer logo with 3 options, but only 2 I could chose and both promised to wipe my data. One was to repair windows and the other was to replace it. I chose neither in an effort to not loose my data. From other peoples screen shots it looks like this disk should give me many more options, including one for command prompt. Tried Windows boot disk again, disk would not load this time. Now I'm stuck! How can I check for HD failure if I can't get a command prompt or OS? It seems like everything I try goes right back into the same repair mode that ran for 4 days and did nothing good and forces me to shut down with power button despite how bad that is to do.

Administrator's Account Is No Longer Accessible

Apr 16, 2011

I began having BSOD's on my PC, after a significant amount of work, I made the decision to repair the files through Windows 7 with the option to retain my files and setting vs. a clean install. I subsequently realized that the problem that was likely causing the BSOD was an incorrectly seated video card (I currently have two GTX-295's).That being said, with the reinstall the original administrator's account is no longer accessible. I've got the folder on the C: drive where I'd hope to be able to reactivate it and therefore retain all the previously installed programs rather than having to reinstall everything.Any thoughts on how I might be able to get the current version of Windows 7 to "see" this User Account and as such avoid the reinstall of everything?

Admin's Account No Longer Visible For Log-in

Feb 2, 2013

I'm not sure what happened, but this is a new one for me. I was using my mother's laptop and decided to create a new user account for myself. I thought this would be a way of avoiding her complaints and worries of me "messing something up" on her account, i.e., trying to improve her usage of the computer. That's a story for another day. After logging out of my account, I went to log back into hers and found the icon for my account and a blank "other user" icon. I attempted to enter her username (she had no password, at least not that she recalls) but the account pic that shows up in User Accounts doesn't show up and I was unable to log back into her account. I've tried changing my account status and hers, but nothing works.

Windows 7, Explorer.exe Freezing When Login Account After?

Apr 13, 2011

The only thing that remains consistent is that I'm playing a 3D game with audio on. Completely different programs each time. The screen would freeze up and so would the audio, and my keyboard/mouse don't respond at all. I resort to doing a hard reset with the computer power button. Each time, when I log in again, explorer.exe is frozen. the taskbar appears, but nothing on the desktop, and after a couple seconds it all freezes up, with the busy mouse symbol when I highlight taskbar. I can still move mouse around though.

I can do ctrl+alt+delete at this point at least. Restarting explorer.exe doesn't work, so I try logging out in that menu, which does work, although slowly. I've tried scanning for virus and also a system restore to earlier point, no difference. The only solution so far has been to simply log in safe mode - which DOES work by the way - and create a new account from scratch.Last time I cut/paste almost everything between old account and new, this time I will only do basics like save games and documents/music/video.

Here's my system info:

Compaq CQ5210f
**Athlon II x2 2.7 GHz processor (65w)
**M2N68-LA Narra5-GL6 motherboard
**3GB DDR2 SDRAM memory
**500GB hard drive
**250w power supply
** 1gb DDR3 Radeon HD 4650 graphic card

Standard User Account In Windows 7

Aug 16, 2012

I set up four Dell Computers with Windows 7 Home Premium. Used my administrative account to install software (Microsoft Office Suite), Microsoft Security Essentials, Ccleaner, and Malawarebytes. All programs installed properly. As these computers are going to be used in a public place by junior and senior high school students, I thought it would be best to set up a standard user account for each of the four computers. I have it set up but when I log in as a standard use (non administrative) all the programs that were installed are not available. Tell me if I'm wrong. I think the programs would still be listed in program files when the standard user is open. Can I go to each of the programs and right click to open and then be prompted to key in my administrative password. I would think this should allow the program to be run in the standard user desktop.

Can An XP User Account Be Copied Into Windows 7 Pro

Dec 20, 2012

I've tried to search this but have had no luck. My wife's computer has XP Pro 64-bit installed and she wants to try (again) to upgrade to Windows 7. I have 2 hard drives for her computer, the one with the XP OS is installed and the other with Windows 7 is waiting to be installed. I only planned on installing one HD at a time, but if I can install both and copy her user files and emails from one HD to the other, that would be an option too. Eventually I want to have just the Windows 7 HD installed and archive the XP HD in the safe.Several months ago she wanted to try Windows 7 but I anticipated that she may want to switch back to XP if she didn't like the new system. I bought a new HD and installed it in her computer, then installed Windows 7 Pro on it. The new system works fine and was updated to a current state as of several months ago. I realize there will be lots of Windows 7 updates to install, and I'm willing to spend the time necessary to do that. However, I'm looking for a short cut for installing all of her personal settings and Outlook email files from XP to Windows 7. I'm thinking that I could copy her entire User file from the XP system and after Win 7 is finally updated and current, paste that User account into Windows 7. MS Office 2003 is already installed on the new HD. I realize it won't be a 100% "one for one" swap and that I may have to tweak several settings from her XP User account, but is using the XP User account even feasible? If I can't paste her XP User account, can I copy her XP Outlook PST file onto a flash drive and then paste that PST file into Windows 7? I don't see why that wouldn't work, but there are a lot of issues that I'm not aware of. Does anyone have any better suggestions on how to import her personal settings and emails into Windows 7 on the new HD? P.S. I didn't realize this was my first post. I've been lurking and reading for quite a while. I live in the Largo, Florida area and have been very active in computers for several years, but just recently upgraded to Windows 7 on my personal computers. I'm getting more comfortable with Windows 7 each day, but now that I've broken the ice with this first post, I hope to become fairly active. I hope that I can eventually contribute to the forum. I'm glad to be here!

Windows 7 User Account Control

Dec 31, 2011

how I can run a program, Core Temp.exe, on Windows 7 without having to manually enter the admin password and manually run it after logged in.I tried 3 ways:

1) Run as Admin Went to both the shortcut and the program location -> properties -> "Run as Admin" ---> didn't work Also checked "Run in Compatibility mode for windows 7" ---> didn't work

2) Task Scheduler Use Task Scheduler to run the program at startup---> didn't work run whenever any user logs in---> didn't work run whenever I log in ---> didn't work All of the above triggers at once ---> didn't work

3) Registry Editor Local Machine -> Software -> Microsoft -> Windows -> Current Version -> Run Made a string to run the program ---> didn't work All I want is this program to run whether I'm logged into any account. Specifically, my Limited Account so that I can monitor my CPU temperature and usage. It works after I run the program manually, this pops up "do you want the following program from an unknown publisher....", and enter in my admin password, but this is tiring.

The Low Down On User Account Controls In Windows 7

Apr 1, 2010

In this tutorial, it's time to take a look at the often unfairly criticized User Account Control security mechanism. User Account Controls (UAC) were introduced in Windows Vista and were immediately unpopular with users migrating from Windows XP. However, they drastically improved security and when used in conjunction with limited user accounts, can actually save a great deal of time, as we'll demonstrate in the video.

Put The User Login Icons In The Taskbar In Windows 7?

Jul 15, 2012

I'm setting up a new computer with Windows 7 Home Premium as the OS.

My wife uses a QWERTY keyboard but I've shifted to a Dvorak. I've set up Windows 7's language selections so that the Admin and I have the Dvorak keyboard, and my wife has the QWERTY. And that's all working properly.

I've found the Windows options, change user process to shift among the three users and their S/W keyboards. Is there a way to simplify that? Can I place a copy of the two user icons (or any other button) on the task bar (or anywhere else) that would allow a single mouse click to shift between users?
