Freezes Reboots And Hangs At Splash Screen?
Dec 5, 2012About week ago my computer started freezing and rebooting and then hangs at bios splash screen (will stay there with nothing happening for hours if u let it) until you reboot it than it comes back fine until it does it again. The only thing I noticed is if the machine is off for a while it takes a lot longer for it to happen, If you restart it it last around 15 -20 mins.
1) Updated all drivers and checked device manger for errors.
2) checked and defragged drive C: drive (ssd)
3) checked both for events and dmp files (nothing ) made sure reporting was on
3) Ran windows mem check froze twice while testing once with both strips and once with only one strip installed
4) replaced ram

Install Hangs / Freezes On Starting Windows Screen
Jan 6, 2010After recently building a custom PC, I am doing a clean install of Windows 7 (64 bit) and all goes well through the installation process (loading, expanding files, etc) except when after the 2nd restart when it starts up for the first time. It freezes or hangs on the black “starting windows” screen (the one with the new colored windows logo).
I have tried installation a number of times, including with a bare bones configuration (2 Gb RAM, 1 HDD, 1 DVD Drive, GPU, and all other peripherals disconnected) and still the same thing happens. I have also tried the process using the VGA cable instead of the DVI.
I was able to successfully install XP after failing to install Win7, so I don't think my HDD is bad. I am also using a PS/2 Keyboard

All components were purchased new from Newegg. I also have some peripherals: 2 DVD drives, Multi card reader, extra USB, firewire ports, wireless LAN card (although I disconnected those for the initial install attempt).
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I am really at a loss to figure this one out. Could it be something to do with my video card driver? (Do I need to install that in the BIOS?)--I can see everything fine on my monitor though.
Frequent Freezes, Hangs, BSoDs, Screen Unable To Detect CPU?

- Frequent hangs and freezes
- Frequent BSoDs
- Had a few encounters where the computer wouldnt start up and have a long continuous beep
- I don't know how to exactly describe this, but it's like halfway through using the computer, the screen turns black like when I just on the monitor without booting the com.

Sep 26, 2012Windows 7 hangs up on start up and after about 10 minutes goes to password. Once the password has been entered it goes to Welcome. the Green circle to the left of the W rotates and then stops.

Jun 16, 2012I have an Asus u56e laptop I got back in December 2011, and recently I did I clean reinstall of my system because it kept freezing and locking up while simply just browsing the web and listening to iTunes. I don't use this laptop for games, but after the clean install, I updated all my drivers, software, windows updates, etc. and I still get hangs and freezes that last 5 seconds to sometimes a full minute and all I'm doing is listening to music and browsing websites with maybe two or three tabs open in Firefox. I really have absolutely no idea what could be wrong so I came here seeking any kind of much needed help and assistance. I don't have a lot of programs installed and I don't run a lot of programs at once, just maybe one or two apps usually. My problem is I will be browsing on Firefox listening to music, then iTunes will hang for a few seconds and the music freezes, then Firefox freezes too sometimes for a few seconds also, then it goes back to normal, and this happens very very frequently to the point of frustration and I simply don't understand why a new clean laptop would have an issue such as this. Jun 8, 2012I just did some upgrades to my pc. Here are the current specs:
Motherboard: Crosshair V
CPU: AMD FX 6100
GPU: eVGA GTX 680 HC

PSU: Corsair 750Watt
OS: Windows 7 x64 Clean Install
HD: WDC-WD2500KS-00MJB0
Like it says above, this is a clean install. I have tested the RAM with Memtest86+ for 8 hours and found no errors. I have tested the HD with Seatools and found no errors. I have run Prime95 for hours without errors. I water cool my CPU and GPU and temps max at 37C.The OS constantly hangs, freezes, or whatever its called NONSTOP. Most of the time I'm able to move the mouse but can't DO anything with it. Eventually (within minutes) it comes back to life and does everything I'd been trying to do while it was frozen. I don't get much time inbetween freezes (a minute max between freezes). I've reinstalled the OS several times and no joy. At first I thought it was a bad motherboard, so I RMA'd it and it is still having the same issue. These freezes began happening well before video drivers were even installed (or any other drivers for that matter). It even does the same thing in SAFE MODE.from the EVENT VIEWER:

Asus Laptop Hangs / Freezes - Hard Reset Required
Mar 7, 2011I have an Asus G73JH-BST7 Laptop and recently it's been freezing. For the past two months it has had issues with programs hanging for 1-3 minutes then quickly responding again. About a week ago the laptop began to freeze and wouldn't come back and would required a hard restart. I decided to make use of my warranty and took it into a geek squad store. They told me they ran chkdsk and "other" tests to check the HDD and it passed all the tests and they couldn't "Replicate" the problem. So, I took the laptop back and it's still hanging/freezing. Whats the best way to go about diagnosing this?

Jun 11, 2012win 7 hangs on startup and freezes or BSOD 0x000000d1 within 1 minute usually. system runs fine if I boot to safe mode.no serious hardware or software changes around the time it started happening (that i recall) I didn't use my pc much for a few days and then the first time i noticed (around June 7th, 2012) I just logged in and there was a popup saying something like windows had recovered from an unexpected shutdown and the system was really slow and then it froze. Makes me think maybe a power outage corrupted something (i'm not on a UPS) or a windows update went badly. i tried to update several drivers in safe mode but none were succesfull. Catalyst Install Manager says: "Failed to load detection driver"sfc /scannow reported no violations perfmon /report gives me...."Error: An error occured while attempting to generate the report. The system cannot find the path specified. "My oldest system restore point says June 7th, 2012 so i did restore but it still has the problem.I built the system 1-2 years ago and haven't re-installed the OS since.

Windows 7 X32 Hangs/freezes Randomly, Only Safe Mode + Networking Works
Sep 3, 2012I've got a new copy of windows 7 (32 bit version) I have got 4 GB ram only 3,25 in use (like I had on the XP version, running on the same PC) and after I boot up the PC I just look at the desktop, play with some random games, create and delete folders, do some little stress to the RAM or sometimes just doing nothing. The only boot that works is safe mode and its variants.
Things that I've done in the past 7 days:
-I checked RAM integrity - no errors
-Everything is up to date (drivers, everything) - it hanged/froze even with a fresh copy of Windows 7
-I use wireless if that is a problem, found some errors about it and will post them after this list
-enabled services and disabled them VIA msconfig (toying around I found out that it WONT CRASH with any internet service on normal mode)
-I checked Windows 7 compatibility and it's 100% compatible
-Tried to update BIOS but I don't think it will solve anything anyways
-Used dozens of registry cleaners (CCleaner and lots; lots more) - still nothing
-Put a second HDD on my machine with Windows 7 same version, it still crashed, but on the second machine the second HDD works great.

Welcome Screen Hangs
Sep 11, 2012I was moving, my PC fell over. Plugged her in, all laggy and HDDs were not happy. Ran chkdsk, everything works now except the Welcome Screen takes forever, Windows 7 is on it's on Vertex 4, prior to me moving the Welcome Screen would be instant. After Windows boots everything is peppy and ready like it was! I don't understand!

Nov 22, 2011I was handed a computer to try and clean up yesterday. It is an 2 GHZ AMD 64 bit CPU running windows 7 64-bit with a whole 1 GB of ram. Yes I said 1 GB of ram, I cringed too. I've got the owner convinced to upgrade that to 4GB and he's gonna go with a dual core processor while he's at it which should make a ton of difference.In any case, on to the problem. The windows install was pretty bogged down, somewhere around 80 running processes and no free physical memory. The machine actually booted to the desktop fairly quickly but wouldn't respond to anything due to all the running processes. I went through the task manager and killed enough tasks that I could navigate. I ran ccleaner on it to clear some junk. I went through the startup processes and cleared all the non-essentials. I went into the add-remove programs and removed the junk. I ran ccleaner again and cleared up the remnants and even ran the registry cleaner. I ran malwarebytes and an AVG virus scan and was actually surprised to find the system very clean. It's whole problem seemed to be an absurd amount of "legit" startup items. After I got it all cleaned up to around 40 running processes I defragmented the drive using defraggler and manually bumped the size of the swap file up to 1.5x ram.
The system is now running great, well as great as it can with only 1 GB of ram. All except for one problem.... when the machine boots up it comes to the screen where you can select a user, I select the user and then it hangs on the welcome screen for as much as 20 minutes before it goes on. It didn't take more than 20 minutes to boot before I started!How can it possibly be booting slower now with an optimized drive, larger swap file, and 0 extra components running at startup?
Windows 7 Hangs At Welcome Screen?
Dec 2, 2012yesterday I was using my computer and it was working fine. I turned it off (like I do every night before bed). And when I turned it on again today it got stuck at the Welcome screen. I thought that maybe it was just a one time problem (most of my computer problems are) so I shut if off manually using the power button and the booted it back up again but it got stuck at the welcome screen again. So it is off now. This computer is homebuilt and it is almost 1 year old.

Feb 5, 2011My windows 7 hangs up after logging in. In safe mode with networking, it is running perfectly. I have had this problem intermittantly, and the last times I got a message that my video driver as stopped working and is recovering. My computer would work fine for about a month or so and then it would happen. I performed a clean boot by disabling everything except microsoft stuff at startup. The item I eliminated was adobe reader speed launcher. I can not see it in my programs or features so I can uninstall it. With it disabled..my computer stopped hanging.

Dec 6, 2009I am having a similar problem using the "blank" screen saver with a password...
Purchased a new Dell XPS 8000 three days ago and everything appeared to be working fine. I was using the wired keyboard and mouse supplied with the computer.
Connected my old usb Microsoft Wireless Comfort Keyboard/Mouse 1.0A to the system and suddenly the system would never go to screen saver. I checked for windows updates and it recommended an update for the wireless keyboard and mouse. Installed the update and now my system goes to screen saver.
The problem now is that it doesn't return from screen saver consistently. I am still characterizing the problem... When I move the mouse I get the login screen, type the password, hit return, and the screen goes blank (as if it is back in the blank screen saver).
I have had the desktop reactivate very quickly (normally) if the screen saver was on only for a few minutes. I have had it take 2 minutes plus to get to the desktop. I have also had the system freeze and ended up power cycling.
I thought this was a power management issue. I tried setting up power settings so nothing would ever go into power save mode but this hasn't made a difference.
I just reconnected my wired keyboard and mouse to see if the issue goes away. I am expecting this to solve it, but I really would like to use the wireless.
Update...
1. Went back to wired mouse/keyboard and the issue persisted.
2. Rolled back updates from last Windows 7 update: Dell Monitor 6/21/2009 1.0.0.0, Microsoft (HID Class) 5/8/2009 7.00.258.0, and Microsoft (USB) 11/03/2009 7.10.344.0. Problem still persisited.
3. Did a "reset to defaults" on the Dell power settings profile and removed the password from the blank screen saver. Seemed to resolve the issue, but only tried it once with the screen saver on for an hour.
4. Added the password back to the screen saver. Worked once and then hung the computer the 2nd time. I move the mouse, get the login screen, type my password, hit return, and the monitors go blank (as if it is in the blank screen saver). At this point it is hung, no mouse, no keyboard, ... must power cycle to get the system back up and running.
Yet another update...
Found a "solution" (let's call it a work around) for this issue in another thread: Seven locks up after an hour or so idle. I had my task bar set to auto hide, changed it to be visible all of the time and no more system hangs.
While I am thrilled to not have to power cycle everytime I go to screen saver, I would still like to auto hide the task bar. I wonder if there isn't a better fix that would allow me to still configure the task bar.

Jul 28, 2011Since a coffee spill on the keyboard, my laptop won't normally boot as it did before.ow it just hangs on boot screen. It takes somewhere between 10s and 5min to boot.ometime it requires to be reset several times to actually boot windows. I switched RAM, the problem persisted. Every component in my laptop is working (Wifi, Ethernet, Sound etc.) What should I do?

Nov 10, 2009I thought I'd move with the times and picked up a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate. I had Vista installed before.
Booted from CD, delete/recreate partition and did a clean install.
The installer hangs on a black screen after the first reboot. Even left it overnight without progress. Forcing a reboot and going into Safe Mode the setup tries to continue, then comes up with a prompt saying 'Setup cannot run in Safe mode, rebooting your computer', whereupon it hangs again.
This is the sequence I tried:
1. Boot from CD, delete boot partition, new partition, clean install (HUNG)
2. Disconnect router, then as 1. (HANG)
3. Reset BIOS to factory defaults, then as 1. (HANG)
4. Disconnect external hard drive and printer, then as 1. (HANG)
5. Disabled on-board chips like sound, legacy USB etc, then as 1. (HANG)
I've tried booting to the CD and doing a 'repair windows' but that comes back without problems.
The only other thing I could think of is that the graphics card is incompatible... but I don't have onboard VGA and I don't have another card just lying around.
I've never had a problem doing a clean Windows install. I'm really disappointed they're making it so difficult. Does anyone have any suggestions? I might have to just go back to Vista...
Hangs At Screen For Preparing For First Use / Time
Dec 12, 2009I had this pc working decently with Vista Ultimate x64, but wanted to bump it up to Windows 7 since the audio was poor and Media Center did not work well. I tried the upgrade through Windows route and this is when the issue began. The install went normally, but when i got to the screen for preparing for first use, it hung.
I have tried everything I know of, including using Active@ KillDisk to wipe the hard drive entirely. Whether I try a 32 bit or 64 bit copy of 7 Ultimate, it hangs at the same spot. I striped this machine down and have only a single DDR3 2GB memory stick in the mobo slot...
I can install Vista Ultimate x64 without issue..

I even purchased a new hard drive and replaced. I put in the install disc and wait for the recovery window, it starts with loading fles then starts windows and hangs up in same spot. I switched out the Ram and did the same thing. dont know what else it would be or to do.
