View 4 Replies View RelatedSo in the last month i noticed some of my folders i keep on the desktop change form the newer slicker icon of a folder back to the typical windows yellow folder. Then more and more until all of my folders where like that.Then all of sudden some sounds started to go from a normal contemporary notification sound to a dull sound from XP or older.Then about a week ago the "bar" if you will changed from a typical Win7 style back to a XP one where its dull. And its like that everywhere.
I have tried icon programs at first to fix the folder issue and unless i wanna do it one buy one its sucks and i just want them back to a normal win7 folder nothing fancy.I have tried changing themes via the ones pre installed and it might change my desktop wallpaper it never changes the "bars"Also tried other non microsoft theme programs with the same results.
ALSO i scanned my pc with Malwarebyes, CCleaner, WinASO, AVG and cleaned all up and so on rebooted all the same.Thought i may have installed too many apps or at least big apps (photo/video editing) and i uninstalled a few with no difference.So then i decided to check out my ram. So i make a bootable disc of a memory scanner. Ended up getting into the millions of errors with the ram i had and i stopped it before it was done with the intentions on getting ram and not waiting until scan was done to tell me i had 500 trillion errors lol.
Bought new ram installed it started her up and BAM .... same thing.I have not scanned this ram as my wife uses it while im at work and when im home i do alota 2nd job stuff on it so i dont like having it offline long.
I've installed StarDock Deskscapes lately , but I've uninstalled it because of a few bugs . After the uninstall , i can't seem to change themes or access the themes page at all . Any help ? I also got Fences Pro .

I want to connect to my servers using Windows 7 Remote Desktop, but I would really like to do so in MORE than 256 colors.
Everyone I see online is asking how to get it to only display in 256 colors. Well mine will only display in 256 mode and I want it in full color if possible.
I checked the display setting in Remote Desktop and it's set to 32bit, but it never actually does show that way.
Edit: I should mention these servers are mostly running Windows Server 2003 if that makes a difference.

It is called the neverhood, and was around at the sort of time when windows 95 was the latest OS. I managed to find a copy today and was all excited to play this game, but the colours are really strange, certain shades are fluorescent pink, green, yellow, etc while other lighter shades are the colour they are meant to be. I can only assume this is because I am using the wrong colour depth or something, the problems were lessened when I set my colour depth to 16bit, but still not solved.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently found a REALLY cool looking theme, and installed it. I was in love with it. After having that theme, I wanted a new start button to go with it. I found, and installed, a new start button. Then I installed a cool cursor. Finally, my wants didn't end. I wanted to get a new icon pack that looked good with the theme. I found a decent, and popular, one. I downloaded it. It came with an installer, so I used it. After installing, it asks me to "re-boot" my computer. I did it, and when I turned it back on my computer was messed up with some "shell32.dll" error. It took me a couple of hours to fix it. Many people recommended a system restore, or to use the "sfc /scannow" command. I did those two things, but they didn't work. I try to restore the system, but ALL my restore points were gone. I tried to do the "sfc /scannow" command, but apparently I didn't have permission. I'm the only user on this computer. How do I not have permission to do something? I ended up fixing it by doing some kind of system repair on start up. Although, now my computer is really slow, and I can't use custom themes for windows 7 anymore! I had a really cool one installed, but now when I turn it on, it just shows up as a dark version of the classic theme. I tried re-downloading, and re-installing it, twice. It still didn't work. It seems like ANY custom theme I get shows up as the theme that messed up my computer. I uninstalled that, but it seems like it's still here. Is there any way I can repair it, and get my custom themes back?

Boot up computer, get the windows password field, put in pw, next screen is a cross-hatch (vertical and horizontal lines) of various colors. Cursor doesn't work, nothing works, manually shut the computer down. On rebooting, everything is OK??? Nothing appears to be wrong with my monitor (Samsung 193P), or any other functions of computer.

View 1 Replies View Relatedmy GPU is Nvidia Point Of View GTS 450 2GB DDR3. Yesterday I tried to overclock with MSI Afterburner by increasing the values by 60-70 and than I reverted back to original. Today when I started the PC, everything went fine but when I installed The Sims 3 and started it, the PC froze and there were some mixed colors (more like medium length lines, red, purple, green, blue, pink etc. ) on the upper left and bottom right corner of the screen. Than I restarted and it was fine.. Is there something that I should be worried about. The card is bought last year in June/July and it still has warranty. Also I wanted to ask another question, is it better to buy GTX 460 or GTX 560 or just to upgrade this card to SLI

Problem:
When I boot from the Windows 7 DVD the installation screen comes up in 8 colours only and the screen res looks like 640x480 on a screen that normally runs at 1600 x 1024 (this is what the original Windows XP installation ran).
Windows XP ran fine and did not have any of these problems (with the installer).
I am reluctant to proceed with the installer as I would prefer to iron out this problem before pushing on with the complete install.
Has anyone else seen this?
I have just finished my first custom build pc and everything is up and running great. But there is a couple of problems, the biggest one being that windows 7 seems to be stuck in classic theme. I am running windows 7 home on my core i5 2500k with a radeon hd 6770. I have tried all sorts of things and can not get this fixed.

Does anyone know what this is and where I can disable it?

Althought the theme looks very fine to me, i've found several problems such as black typing fields and black fonts on a dark grey background. Needless to say that it is really annoying and impossible to work with. How to change those fields and fonts into white/bright grey?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhile using Windows 7, my screen just turns opaque, and i have to reset my pc.
This happened :
1. Twice in Fifa 10 (exactly at kickoff, green screen)
2. Using uTorrent (White Screen)
3. As soon as i move mouse after boot up ( White)
The main problem is that my monitor goes into power-saving mode upon reset after this screen, and it does not get out of it. I have to wait a few hours everytime this happens to use my pc again. Its not my monitor, cause Ubuntu and Hackintosh work just fine. Today i got a similar black screen with XP. I have also restore factory settings in BIOS. Pls Help.
EDIT : Happened in Hackintosh as well, maybe ill restore BIOS to version that came with my PC.
EDIT : Found out a possible solution thanks to google (Damn! Why does BING even try?), Some RAM settings set to AUTO in BIOS. Will just have to give it the original frequency!

So i switched to firefox and it was solved right away.But now i discover another problem. Because i like to use windows classic theme with the grey menu bar. But when i use firefox browser and click on the bookmark menu, then it leaves a image or "print" of the bookmark window in my start menu.Look at the screenshot were you can see some remaining text of my bookmark window.I can remove it when i adjust my start menu but it comes back when i use the bookmarks again.This only happens in firefox but when i change the theme to win 7 or any other then it dosent happens.How do i fix this ?
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy main consideration in choosing the appearance of my desktop and windows thereon is clarity, ease of reading any text, and distinguishing between windows at a glance, and also keeping performance to a maximum. To this end, having tried various Aero themes, although I did like the rounded corners of windows, for the sake of clarity I abandoned Aero for my own customized Windows Classic appearance. Not flashy but at least clearer for me than any of the other themes.When I installed Windows 7 I quickly reverted to Windows Classic, and chose for the active window title bar colours dark green as Color 1 and a lightish blue for Color 2 (with yellow text), so there was a gradient from green to blue along the title bar. I'm not bothered about whether anyone else likes that - it's served me well for the best combination of clarity and agreeableness through various Windows versions.
Yesterday I followed a tip from a magazine and ran the Windows 7 screen colour calibration facility. After I'd run that I noticed that all my active windows had just the dark green and no gradient. When I went into the Personalize facility to change that back, I found that Color 2 was greyed out, so that I could not set it again.I know this is a silly little point, but actually the gradient did make the active windows look less severe and 'blocky', and I'd like to restore my ability to set the second colour.Reverting to Aero is no option as far as I'm concerned, for to me multiple windows look to me extremely confusing in Aero, and some taskbar text is difficult to read, no matter what colour / lightness settings one uses.Somehow I doubt whether my calibrating the screen colours had anything to do with the little problem I've run into; I assume it must be just coincidence. I did, however, recently switch to manual a few supposedly non-essential services, and just possibly the change occurred then but I didn't notice it till after I'd done that screen colours calibration.
