Power Settings - Never Go To Sleep Not Working?
Sep 8, 2010
I have all my power settings to never go to sleep and when I leave my computer on unattended for about 20 minutes I come back and see the password screen. That may be ok as long as I don't lose any work in progress, but I would like to control this or at least understand it.

I use Performance mode, and set it to NEVER turn off ANYTHING, including the monitor.I hit apply, etc etc.It will hold this setting for a while, then after a reboot, or turning off at night, it loses this setting, and reverts to turn off monitor after 20 minutes. Why is Windows 7 doing this?

I am running Windows 7 7000 x64 on a quad core intel box. Most things have been working great but I have been having one annoying problem, the screensaver won't start, and neither will the power saving settings (i.e. turning off monitor, computer sleep)
Basically I am wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem and figured out what software or hardware could be causing it or if anyone knows of a tool to check what input is keeping the computer out of the idle state.

Windows 7 shuts down my sound system after about 2 minutes. I can see the LED on my A-L speakers turn off. Any sound will wake it back up but if it's only a ping it doesn't wake fast enough for me to hear it. This didn't happen with this same hardware on Win2k (I skipped XP and Vista).I went through the Advanced Power Settings but under Multimedia I don't have an option for sound.I'd rather not disable power saving completely, so I'd like to find a way to prevent the sound system from going to sleep at all.

My system specs are updated. My power setting quit working a few days ago. No matter were I set sleep mode or power monitor down, it never does. Not sure why? I've performed an sfc/scannow with no errors. Nothing has really changed in my system recently except my vid card driver. I can't say that caused it, but I rolled it back just in case with no change.

I have a Dell XPS 15 and in Windows 7 Power Management, I am trying to set it to "Do Nothing" when I close the lid. The option is there and I am set to "Do Nothing" but closing the lid shuts off display, network connection, etc. In addition, I would like it to not shut off my network connection when it hibernates as when I log back in after the hibernation, it takes several minutes for the wireless network connectivity to return.

My laptop connects to my desktop wirelessly allowing me to watch stuff stored on it and do other things. Recently, I started using the power settings so that after 30 minutes the computer goes into one of the sleep modes at which time access is shut off to the laptop. Is there anyway the laptop can prevent the power settings from taking effect when it is already connected?

I have my power plan set to Energy Star with display brightness set around 40% when on battery and 100% when plugged in. It seems to get reset periodically to the default which 40% for both battery and plugged in. I haven't been able to reliably reproduce the problem but every few days the plugged in setting gets reset to 40%. Is this a known problem with Windows 7?

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium. I have the system set up to run two applications at certain times - Norton Scans being one.
Yesterday, it missed a scan and I suspect it was because of the power saving options - the computer is set to go to sleep after 30 minutes.
Does anyone know whether that is the case and if there is anyway to set up the power saving so that any timed applications will run OK?

My monitor goes to sleep after about 10 minutes when I am watching a movie or something. Its really annoying because I have changed the screensaver and monitor power settings (in display settings) to never, I have changed the power settings (in Control Panel -> Power Settings -> Edit Settings -> Advanced) and put everything at never. Still the problem persists.

I had to reinstall Windows and now I'm reconfiguring the power options. When I go to "control what closing the lid does" in my control panel, the option to Sleep is not there. It only allows me to select "Hibernate" or "Do Nothing"

This started two days ago. When waking up from sleep, the power cycles on and off about every 2-3 seconds. This is happening before any programs are restarted, and the screen is still dark. I first thought it was my new battery backup. I called APC, and they agreed that it had failed even thou the UPS was only 10 days old,. So I disconnected it, and plugged the computer into a dedicated outlet, removed the UPS monitoring software with Revo, and then cleaned the registry with CClean, with no effect. The only new programs I've loaded, were about 2 weeks ago I added itunes, and a Win update or 2, and the battery backup software, which has been removed.
The computer is a Win 7 Pro machine about 3 months old. I7-2600, 16 GB ram, and boots from a SSD that only holds the OS, 4 TB of HD in raid 0. No mods or overclocking....Just as it came from Micro Center.

I live in a place where we have power shortages from time to time. I have my Dell desktop pc attached to a UPS and i have configured the pc to go to sleep after 5 minutes when on UPS. Is there anyway to wake up the pc automatically once the power is on? I have connected my UPS with USB cable to the pc, and the pc treats the UPS as a battery. I use this pc as a media centre so this feature is something i really need.

My Netbook power profile has these battery setting:
Level: Battery action/Plugged In
Critical Level: 5%/5%
Critical action: Hibernate/Hibernate
Low Battery Level: 7%/10%
Low Battery Action: Nothing/Nothing
Reserve Battery Level: 5%/7%
Reserve Battery Action: N/A
If I leave the netbook on battery and go to sleep/go out/whatever, when I come back it will be off. After plugging it in and powering it on. It will say it is resuming windows, and then I get the "windows has recovered from unexpected shutdown" after Windows is started. I'm not having any problems with Windows, but this message is annoying. Theoretically when the battery hits 5% remaining, windows will gracefully hibernate and I can resume it without any problems.

Have a Windows 7 PC working fine for 6 months, now fails to resume from sleep every time. On attempting to resume the PC appears to go through a powering up loop (Hard disk and fan spin up) which then goes off and repeats indefinitely till you force the power off by holding town power button. When changing 'allow hybrid sleep' in Power Settings to disable; it cured it for a few days. The issue came back, so tried enabling this setting - same result. Disabled again, same result.Update Intel Graphics Drivers to latest. Fixed the issue again, just for a few days.

Just upgrade my server with a Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H mobo and a G630T processor. Installed Windows 7 Ultimate. For some reason I don't see the options for hybrid sleep or hibernate in advanced power options menu. Generally, I believe they are supposed to be under sleep in the advanced menu but only "Sleep After" and "Allow wake timers" are present in the menu. I haven't upgraded to a new mobo in years and in my old mobo there was an option to enable S3 sleep. This mobo has options to enable wake timer, WOL, and a couple of others but nothing to disable to enable hybrid sleep. My system seems to still go to sleep ok but the lack of the two options seems odd to me and wanted to see if anyone possibly had a similar problem.

Ever since I changed my power supply from an Orion 480W to my current Cooler Master power supply, my pc will not sleep. It initiates sleep but then immediately turns back on and boots to the login screen. I have tried everything! From powercfg in cmd to changing the seetings on the motherboard in bios, and disabling all hardware from waking my system up to changing the power supply settings in windows. I am considering doing a reinstall of windows

My HP laptop shows a blank screen after loa=eaving the computer for a short time. I have tried changing settings for hybernation and sleep, as I don't know which it is, but when I click the mouse to bring it back, it shows the computer as "locked". It take quite a while to bring the screen back. I have changed the settings to "never" as it is usually on mains electricity.I don't know what happens, but it takes whatever I was working off screen and comes up with the options to "change user" but we only have one account and says it is "locked".

I have Win7 on my desktop PC, and sometimes when I start up the computer, it won't have any internet access. On more rare occasions, it will do the same thing when I resume from Sleep. Windows usually solves the problem by itself, but it that takes about a minute or so.
I know it's not the modem or the router, becuz other computers on my wi-fi network can access the internet even when the main PC can't. I did a search and found a few things about reinstalling Office 2010 or disabling IPv6, but that doesn't work for some people. Those posts are also 3-4yrs old, so it seems like there should have been patches

I am new to windows 7 and I left my computer on cause I was downloading something came back like 3hrs later and noticed my computers hard drive led light and power light was blinking like every 3 seconds. I then clicked the power button and it went through bios again and said windows is resuming I think and everything was how it was when I left it but my download had stopped. So how do I make it so my computer doesn't go into sleep?
